    Downtown Central - Centro Histórico: Where the Action Unfolds and Culinary Adventures Await.
    You know where the heart of Oaxaca really beats? Right smack in its downtown central area. This is the place where local commerce thrives and the cultural scene is so alive you can practically feel it. Imagine a vibrant tapestry of restaurants, markets, and street vendors weaving together to create an atmosphere that's bursting with life. Here's what you need to know:
    Local Buzz and Market Magic: The downtown area is where all the local action goes down. It's the epicenter of trade, where restaurants stock up on their fresh produce, and street vendors create an atmosphere that's downright electric.
    Culinary Wonderland: Foodies, brace yourselves. The downtown food market is a sensory adventure like no other. You'll be tempted by an array of mouthwatering dishes, from traditional Oaxacan flavors to finger-licking wood-fired barbecues.
    Authentic Vibes: Downtown Centro captures the real essence of Oaxaca's everyday life. The colorful streets and bustling markets are like a living portrait that radiates the city's authentic soul.
    Santo Domingo: Where History Meets Nighttime Revelry.
    Santo Domingo is that neighborhood that's got a little bit of everything. It's split into two parts: the Zocalo, the main plaza, and Santo Domingo itself, all centered around the historic Santo Domingo church. Get ready for a blend of history, romance, and nightlife that's off the charts:
    Historical Enchantment: The Santo Domingo church isn't just a building - it's a historic landmark that takes you back in time. The cobbled streets and stunning architecture create an enchanting backdrop that's straight out of a storybook.
    Party All Night: When the sun sets, Santo Domingo comes to life with an exciting nightlife scene. Bars, restaurants, and all kinds of entertainment options are on the menu, catering to every taste.
    Organic Oasis: Don't miss the organic market, a hub for fresh produce and unique teas. It's the perfect spot for health-conscious dining and discovering organic goodies that'll make your taste buds dance.
    Barrio de Jalatlaco: Your Tranquil Hideaway.
    Jalatlaco is where tranquility reigns supreme. Situated to the east of the central area and across a dry riverbed, it's your ticket to a peaceful escape that's just a stone's throw away from downtown. Here's the scoop:
    Zen Living: Jalatlaco is your ultimate haven away from the downtown hustle. If you're all about that peaceful lifestyle, this is the place to be.
    Preserving Culture: The low-rise buildings and meticulously preserved architecture dating back to the 16th to 18th centuries are like living artifacts that showcase Oaxaca's rich history.
    Cozy Rentals: Many of the houses in Jalatlaco offer private rooms or cozy boutique hotels, creating a warm and welcoming vibe for both locals and visitors.
    Barrio de Xochimilco: Embracing Authentic Mexican Life.
    Imagine discovering a hidden gem that gives you a real taste of Mexican life. That's Xochimilco - a neighborhood that effortlessly blends authenticity with convenience. Here's what's in store:
    Live Like a Local: Xochimilco is your golden ticket to diving headfirst into the Mexican way of life. Immerse yourself in the local culture and experience the city like a true Oaxaqueño.
    Park Paradise: Parks in Xochimilco come alive with dance classes and communal events, making them the perfect spaces for both leisure and cultural exploration.

This year we will be there for Día de Muertos and really look forward to it. Thanks SO much for sharing these wonderful videos. I am so familiar with many of the places you shared. Hi Jim, Thanks for the great content you put out! It is very much appreciated! I am searching for a town/city that has a moderate cool climate and or a beach town where the cost of living and real estate are still affordable. Other than the obvious expat destinations, do you have any suggestions?

    Beautiful neighbourhoods !! Are there lots of foreigners (Non-Mexicans) in these areas ? It would be good to know whether new arrivals from USA/Canada/Europe can expect a good community of support for those first few months or years.

      @celinachavez4922 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I was 3 weeks ago, and I saw a lot of foreigners.. everybody is super comfortable speaking in simple Spanish. There are a lot of French people also.. if you stayed close to the center (central zocalo), you would be good.

    • @encampsaround
      @encampsaround 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @thetacokawaii - as a world traveler I expect foreigners in every country. And I expect equal mixing even if they have affiliate communities. Not sure what your question is implying.

    Kind of an odd question, but I'm hoping you can help me out. Seems like a lot of Oaxaca living spaces are open air, which appeals to me. I'm very sensitive to mold and poor air quality. Do you think this would be a good place to consider traveling? Thanks!

    “This is right near where I’m staying” which you said a number of times, doesn’t help me much mate. I don’t know where you’re staying so that makes your explanation of knowing what area of town you’re in rather useless.

    Please do not come to live to Oaxaca. The massive tourism and the well-off inmigrants are rising the living prices since several years, making for we, the locals, hard to find affordable housing near the city.
