Forced to retire early due an accident I could no ĺonger afford my house nor health care. As a native Californian, Mexico might have been the logical choice. I did research on the things that were important to me. I found a site online where you could ask questions and began communicating with someone who was very helpful. We became friends. @@Dividendflywheel There are lots of options in GDL. I was surprised at how few expats I saw around town - even in the Colonia Americana. She doesn't seem to have trouble filling her vacation rental - even though her website is pretty antiquated. I have a link in the description, but lots of folks have troubles with it 😞
My friend retired to MX 11 years ago and loves it. I visited her there and fell in love as well. Most of the things I thought I knew about MX were not true. It’s a wonderful, welcoming, friendly, vibrant place.
What I don’t understand is why is everybody fleeing if it’s so wonderful? I know they’re coming from other places across the border such as Venezuela and Haiti. I always imagine Mexico would be dangerous because of cartels and prejudice, especially against white Americans.
@@kathy2940Because the ppl from here have savings, know the Eng language and that is a us cause they can get extra income teaching . Anything you do extra on ur own is a big help. W her retirement money she can live w modesty. And construction is not that expensive, etc.
She said she teaches "Business English" which is actually more about just having casual conversation, going out for beers with business associates and chatting about sports and whatnot - it's not about strict grammar. Any native English speaker can teach Business English.

You're probably referring to the peso. Besides, all currencies "move up and down". And the exchange rate doesn't affect local prices of real estate or food.

English is my 3rd language & when I moved to the USA as a kid they only put me in an ESL class for a few months then they transferred me to regular classes, had a hard time but I kept a dictionary with me 😂, watched shows n cartoons in English only & it helped a lot
Thank you for this video. I am a Canadian who has lived in the United States all of my life. I’m about to turn 52, and I’m going through a huge transition as an empty nester. I have been trying to figure out this next chapter of my life. It feels like a daunting task. I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 10 years. I don’t have a pension or 401(k) plan. I have started downsizing to live in a tiny home. That in itself has been an adjustment! But it is one that I gladly am adopting. To me,, less is more! I love how this woman appears to have a zest for life, even though she is older. This video was very encouraging. I’ve been going through up and down the type of depression that I’ve never experienced before in my younger years. I have the same type of enthusiasm for life! That is half of the when you start realizing how much people discriminate against you simply because you’re older!
I hear you and can echo a lot of those sentiments. I keep thinking about Mexico of Costa Rica. But kind of hard to just up and leave when you are alone and have to do everything by yourself. I've even thought about van life. I don't care so much about my house, could be a van or tiny house or anything with minimal maintenance, but just want to live under my means so I don't burn through cash. I can also relate to depression ... getting older is hard.

I just love this video and Rennie is my inspiration. I’m on my second year solo here in Central Mexico and I long to have a rooftop sanctuary and some gardening as well. Something caught my eye in the first bathroom immediately. The water vase with plant hanging on the wall. Did you create this Rennie, or where the heck can I get something so unique and beautiful. 😮 Your home is fabulous.
I noticed that vase in the Bathroom as well. It reminded me of the Mexican blown glass pitcher & glass set I have in the clear & cobalt blue glass that I have.
As a Canadian I would love to live in Mexico. Of the places in Mexico I have visited, Xalapa is my favourite. I could never get tired of the scenery, architecture, cultural opportunities, music, art, book stores, markets and most of all the people. Beautiful.
@@AlmostRetiredinMexicoyou can skip Xalapa is not interesting at all, small city with to many people that causes traffic congestion and bad weather, but the estate of Veracruz can be good idea cos have a lot of history you can visit San Juan de Ulua, El Tajín pyramids, La Isla de Sacrificios, Quiahuistlán and Cempoala ruins, las dunas de Chachalacas, the sea food in el Puerto de Veracruz, Boca del Río o Antón Lizardo. Veracruz has all the climates, is the most important maritime port of the country.
I live in puerto vallarta and love it!!!! Can be reasonable to expensive for rents. To buy is a wide range of prices. Beautiful, friendly people, plenty of foreigners, retirees and snowbirds living here. Lots of activities to do, volunteer work, restaurants and theater. Beaches are beautiful north and south of the city center.
I work for Costco would like to transfer there. But, I do not speak Spanish. I heard there are a lot of Americans, bit would you advise learning spanish?

As I am on a pretty dismal pension myself ($600 monthly) I was quite excited by the headline, "Living in Mexico on $130 Monthly pension". However, that is not the case. Rennie already owns a property in Mexico where she is presently living plus receives rental income from 2 self contained units. On top of this she teaches English online and also in person. Personally I feel the headline has skewered the truth. I feel suckered into watching a video which has dashed my dream of living in Mexico on a low pension.
Sorry - I figured most people would realize that you can't actually live in Mexico for $130 per month. I'm not aware of any place in the world where you can live that cheaply. I was hoping to inspire lower income people to look for creative ways to earn extra income to make it possible.

I was born and raised in Jardines Alcalde and I can attest to its neighborly environment, we knew everyone and, during my childhood we would do block parties for Christmas celebrations. Colonia Americana, used to be a high class community before my time but now, its just famous for its night life.

I lived on the island of Puerto Rico for about 15 years and was away from the metropolitan areas. So I also had the same types of experiences with the local residents. When Rennie mentioned the wet & dry seasons, I thought "Hey, that's practically the same as here in Chiang Mai, Thailand". When I looked up the latitudes it all made sense, quite close, Chiang Mai at 18.8 degrees north and Guadalajara at 20.7 degrees north. Nice video.
I lived for 17 months in a neighborhood called Bangkapi in Bangkok with my Thai wife. We paid $130/month for a 2 bedroom condo with 24 security. Walking distance to a mall, two massive outdoor markets, and 4 grocery stores . We could buy the condo for around $30000. Mexico looks great but honestly I see videos and I think Southeast Asia is the best value🤷🏻♂️

This video was recorded last summer, so costs are just a bit higher now (mostly because the peso is strengthening and partly because inflation is high.)
I am sure this woman has led a fascinating life and has some great stories and she has been very industrious and smart in making her retirement work. It's somewhat misleading to say that she's living on $130 Canadian each month. She is renting part of her home and continues to work which brings in income. Not everyone is as smart and industrious as this woman or would be able to follow the same blueprint. She's also in relatively good health which works to her advantage. I think this plan could work for a subset of retirees though. Bravo to her for carving out an adventure for the next stage of her life!

Yes, the title is misleading and at 40 seconds I was going to respond; but then I thought I should see all of it first. That is what TH-camrs do to get you to click. It is quite common. I live on $10 per month...........but then I have other income I did not reveal, Ha.
The truth is somewhere in between. $130US/month is 2,200+ pesos/month or 26,500/ year. That is enough to easily cover the fixed expenses of utilities, taxes, transportation, et cetera that she listed in the video. It's doubtful her rental income is more than $130/month. Certainly the additional income allows her a significantly more free spending lifestyle.

Wow - I have a interview (not yet public) I did with someone who overstayed her 180 day tourist visa and ended up in jail for 2 nights while friends raised the cash to get her out. Immigrants have been too used to skirting the law in Mexico, but the government is getting more sophisticated. Thanks for watching!

Salud digna is seperate services though, a place you go to when getting an ultrasound, blood tests etc. due to hospitals having very high cost just for tests, get your papers there and take them to place where been attended so don't pay the hospital that's attending . IMSS is free healthcare as long as work or are a student and centros de salud are completely free. Paying for IMSS insurance if aren't worker or student is about the worst can do, there are better alternative hospitals that aren't private.

I think her pension is low based on a combination of retiring early, living outside Canada and having spent most of her adult life outside Canada. As I understand, if you work as an adult in Canada, you get a pension that you can collect anywhere in the world. If you don't work in Canada, you get a different pension that you can only collect while living in Canada.

English is my 3rd language & when I moved to the USA as a kid they only put me in an ESL class for a few months then they transferred me to regular classes, had a hard time but I kept a dictionary with me 😂, watched shows n cartoons in English only & it helped a lot
Thank you for this video. I am a Canadian who has lived in the United States all of my life. I’m about to turn 52, and I’m going through a huge transition as an empty nester. I have been trying to figure out this next chapter of my life. It feels like a daunting task. I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 10 years. I don’t have a pension or 401(k) plan. I have started downsizing to live in a tiny home. That in itself has been an adjustment! But it is one that I gladly am adopting. To me,, less is more! I love how this woman appears to have a zest for life, even though she is older. This video was very encouraging. I’ve been going through up and down the type of depression that I’ve never experienced before in my younger years. I have the same type of enthusiasm for life! That is half of the when you start realizing how much people discriminate against you simply because you’re older!
I hear you and can echo a lot of those sentiments. I keep thinking about Mexico of Costa Rica. But kind of hard to just up and leave when you are alone and have to do everything by yourself. I've even thought about van life. I don't care so much about my house, could be a van or tiny house or anything with minimal maintenance, but just want to live under my means so I don't burn through cash. I can also relate to depression ... getting older is hard.

As a Canadian I would love to live in Mexico. Of the places in Mexico I have visited, Xalapa is my favourite. I could never get tired of the scenery, architecture, cultural opportunities, music, art, book stores, markets and most of all the people. Beautiful.

@@AlmostRetiredinMexicoyou can skip Xalapa is not interesting at all, small city with to many people that causes traffic congestion and bad weather, but the estate of Veracruz can be good idea cos have a lot of history you can visit San Juan de Ulua, El Tajín pyramids, La Isla de Sacrificios, Quiahuistlán and Cempoala ruins, las dunas de Chachalacas, the sea food in el Puerto de Veracruz, Boca del Río o Antón Lizardo.
Veracruz has all the climates, is the most important maritime port of the country.

I live in puerto vallarta and love it!!!! Can be reasonable to expensive for rents. To buy is a wide range of prices. Beautiful, friendly people, plenty of foreigners, retirees and snowbirds living here. Lots of activities to do, volunteer work, restaurants and theater. Beaches are beautiful north and south of the city center.
I work for Costco would like to transfer there. But, I do not speak Spanish. I heard there are a lot of Americans, bit would you advise learning spanish?

As I am on a pretty dismal pension myself ($600 monthly) I was quite excited by the headline, "Living in Mexico on $130 Monthly pension". However, that is not the case. Rennie already owns a property in Mexico where she is presently living plus receives rental income from 2 self contained units. On top of this she teaches English online and also in person. Personally I feel the headline has skewered the truth. I feel suckered into watching a video which has dashed my dream of living in Mexico on a low pension.
Sorry - I figured most people would realize that you can't actually live in Mexico for $130 per month. I'm not aware of any place in the world where you can live that cheaply. I was hoping to inspire lower income people to look for creative ways to earn extra income to make it possible.

I was born and raised in Jardines Alcalde and I can attest to its neighborly environment, we knew everyone and, during my childhood we would do block parties for Christmas celebrations.

Bringing dogs to Mexico is easy - especially if you drive across the border instead of flying. I think the limit is 2 per person, but they aren't really counting...

When I looked up the latitudes it all made sense, quite close, Chiang Mai at 18.8 degrees north and Guadalajara at 20.7 degrees north.

I lived for 17 months in a neighborhood called Bangkapi in Bangkok with my Thai wife. We paid $130/month for a 2 bedroom condo with 24 security. Walking distance to a mall, two massive outdoor markets, and 4 grocery stores . We could buy the condo for around $30000. Mexico looks great but honestly I see videos and I think Southeast Asia is the best value🤷🏻♂️

Very adventurous Rennie. Appreciate your insights. Not sure when this was made, but would appreciate updates on costs now -- house expenses, rental income, cost of food. Also cost of residences in your neighborhood now. Your home is very beautiful. Your pup is sweet. You're a smart lady.
This video was recorded last summer, so costs are just a bit higher now (mostly because the peso is strengthening and partly because inflation is high.)
I am sure this woman has led a fascinating life and has some great stories and she has been very industrious and smart in making her retirement work. It's somewhat misleading to say that she's living on $130 Canadian each month. She is renting part of her home and continues to work which brings in income. Not everyone is as smart and industrious as this woman or would be able to follow the same blueprint. She's also in relatively good health which works to her advantage. I think this plan could work for a subset of retirees though. Bravo to her for carving out an adventure for the next stage of her life!

The title is misleading. Her pension is only a small supplement to what she earns from rentals.
Yes, the title is misleading and at 40 seconds I was going to respond; but then I thought I should see all of it first. That is what TH-camrs do to get you to click. It is quite common.
I live on $10 per month...........but then I have other income I did not reveal, Ha.
The truth is somewhere in between. $130US/month is 2,200+ pesos/month or 26,500/ year. That is enough to easily cover the fixed expenses of utilities, taxes, transportation, et cetera that she listed in the video. It's doubtful her rental income is more than $130/month. Certainly the additional income allows her a significantly more free spending lifestyle.

Wow - I have a interview (not yet public) I did with someone who overstayed her 180 day tourist visa and ended up in jail for 2 nights while friends raised the cash to get her out. Immigrants have been too used to skirting the law in Mexico, but the government is getting more sophisticated.

I am so shocked you have spent all these years in Spanish-speaking surroundings without learning fluent Spanish! Especially since you are an English teacher. If you know how to teach, would you not automatically know how to learn? Spanish is such an easy language. It took me 3 months of study to become conversational. I made it a professional language many years after learning to speak it.

Salud digna is seperate services though, a place you go to when getting an ultrasound, blood tests etc. due to hospitals having very high cost just for tests, get your papers there and take them to place where been attended so don't pay the hospital that's attending . IMSS is free healthcare as long as work or are a student and centros de salud are completely free. Paying for IMSS insurance if aren't worker or student is about the worst can do, there are better alternative hospitals that aren't private.

As I know currently minimum pension in Canada is around $1600...

I think her pension is low based on a combination of retiring early, living outside Canada and having spent most of her adult life outside Canada.
As I understand, if you work as an adult in Canada, you get a pension that you can collect anywhere in the world. If you don't work in Canada, you get a different pension that you can only collect while living in Canada.
