  • Schumann's Widmung -- part of a collection of songs which Robert Schumann composed and gave to his beloved Clara as a wedding gift. Franz Liszt later transcribed it for solo piano.
    English text:
You my soul, you my heart,
You my bliss, you my pain,
You my world I live in
My heaven you, in which I hover,
O my grave, down into which
    I give my grief forever!
You are rest, you are peace,
You are of heaven, given to me.
That you love me makes me worthy
    Your look has transfigured me
You lift me lovingly above me
My good spirit, my better self!
    Jun Luke Foster, Piano

I always cry when I hear this piece. Such deep feeling and inspiration by Schumann,
and in this case, played superbly.

This is an amazing rendition Jun Luke, so full of feeling and romantic sentiment ('affect') in the right sense. I keep coming back to your performance because it gives so much consolation.

This lovely piece does not play itself, but needs the right artist. What a musical soul you bring with you. My (previous?) benchmark was Van Cliburn at the White House.
