Not only explaining the background of this piece, you have played it overwhelmingly beautifully. Gould and Bernstein used to do the same. I’m surprised that I did not know you until now.
You are real deal and very rare these days.

This has long been one of my favourite Liszt song transcriptions. I've sought out many different recordings, and this one is definitely up there with the very best, in my opinion. It's beautifully played, and unaffected, but still deeply moving. Superb.

Hearing you speak is a pleasure, and your playing of Widmung .... well, I don’t have the words to describe how much I love it. Thank you for sharing this beauty with us.

First time was live, though - Chethams summer school sometime in the mid 2000s. Can't remember what you played but it was a concert featuring multiple teachers and I think you stood out the most!
You using the time off to relax or tick things off the list?

Thank you- I've been back to my old school many times on the summer school course so can't remember either!

Ich empfehle das Original dieses Liedes zu hören, wunderbar gesungen von Hermann Prey. Wer die deutsche Sprache nicht kennt, für den ist auch der englische Text angegeben.

Exquisite playing here, Leon. Thank you. Definitely the most beautiful song ever written, so tender, so bursting with emotion. Despite my best efforts I can't listen without tears. I very much look forward to hearing you again in France.

Mr.Leon McCawley, SO WONDERFUL AS ALWAYS, MAESTRO!!!!! This is your FIRST video on TH-cam in general (2016), probably you have very nice memories of this recording, thank you for my favourite Schumann/Liszt piece and for an excellent performance, of course, my "like-thumb up-upvote"54 for your great rendition. Today already the second my comment on your channel (I'm sorry, probably too often), this morning I've heard my beloved Chopin's Ballade No.1 in G Minor in outstanding your interpretation (again my new comment). Do you play those little, little-known pieces of Chopin, for example, three "Ecossaises" Op.72 or his "Galop Marquis"? As always all the best from Poland, have a happy weekend. Joanna

Thank you again for your kind comments. Yes, I have recorded the Ecossaises on my Chopin album: leonmccawley.com/media/chopin-piano-music/

Somewhat spoilt by talking over the music for >2 mins and then starting again at 2:24, but a very nice performance indeed.

Thank you, Adrian. This video, made 4 years ago, was specifically intended to be a presentation of Widmung with commentary: something a little different to offer in tandem with all the live performances here on the channel but I can appreciate if it doesn't appeal to some. I have a live performance of this from the Proms that you will see on my channel where you won't find any voice-overs so you may prefer that instead.
