Nice. I had the original Continental tyres on my Def110 and they lasted 120k kms. Now I have Micky Thompsons A/T they are a good offroad track and sand tyre. No sure I will get 100k but tyre rotation is important for long life to mitigate heal toe cupping of the tread.

There is no sense to this... it needs a logic algorithm that says "if i was last in mud and ruts mode and the suspension is still raised and i have not gone over 15mph then i should probably remain in the same mode ! " This was really annoying when green laning also as every time i got out to trim back some bushes i had to reset it !

@@L663 I think it's probably a safety thing. Every modern car I've ever owned switches to it's "default" Road setting after switching the engine off. It's the same with BMWs, Mercs etc as well. Very annoying but probably some sort of safety regulation so that Joe bloggs doesn't accidentally forget after stopping for lunch and try and pull out onto a motorway while in Sand Mode or something. 😂

    Defender 110 power!
I also did quite a bit of off-roading this weekend in my D110 P400SE and tried pulling out a stuck Disco2 from some thick Georgia mud.
However, I had a major problem for a short while! I got a "Gearbox Fault" warning and could not put the car in Drive or Reverse for a good half hour. I thought I was going to have to have her pulled or towed out, but perhaps this Gearbox Fault was just a preventative limp mode/shutdown mode. After a half hour or so with engine off, I started her back up and she drove fine, no "fault." I wonder if I was on the brink of overheating something after trying to pull someone out of the mud for a while?
Did you have any similar issues? I also found it annoying to have to re-select driving modes. Overall though, aside from the temporary terrifying Gearbox Fault, it was a great time.

    • @L663
      @L663  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Mario - I have not had any gearbox faults or similar... I suggest getting it your dealer and getting the fault code log looked at as it should have a record of the stored code and this may have more info than just "fault". Glad i am not the only one finding the res-electing the mode a pain ! Land Rover have listen to me but I have not had a reply if this can be changed yet....

Hi - there are a couple of problem here
      1) You need balls of steel to race your new Defender up hill with trees both sides... i was getting better through the day in this regard
      2) The car seems to have too much sort of traction control and that limits the acceleration.... not sure if this is true but thats what it felt like and others watching commented the same.

Great vid ! Seeing as they were all terrain tyres it did extremely well. I think that 20" weels and all terrain tyres are good for most things - but for off-roading in mud, then the 18" steel wheels and mud-plugger tyres would gave been better - and you would have thrashed it. - By the way - what tyre pressure did you use? Did you use standard road pressure, or did you lower the pressure for off-road?

Watch videos from CO Trails. They are in Colorado and have 33 inch mud tires on theirs. Some serious off road work there.

Doesn’t look like you’ve deflated any tyres. That’s the first thing that should of been done.

Yes I agree... also should have used Rock mode for the steps.... but I pretty good first go.... off to buy some new tyres and then go back again !

My Ford Focus could have done better, not impressed....I was thinking getting the Rubicon or the Defender.....looks like the Rubicon is the real bad ass. The Defender comes across as a posh swanky soccer mom jeep, it doesn't have the real meat to perform like a off roader.....and yes yes I know this one did not have the off road kit....bottom line, the Defender is great for rich fat mom in the suburbs.

Focus to Defender / Rubicon... thats quite an upgrade.
I really dont think the WAG's will be driving Defenders...they will stick with the Range Rovers....

what is it about the rubicon that you have experienced that makes it the bad ass in your opinion?

Hilarious hearing how this defender 'would' have been off-road capable of it had proper tyres. Except you can't fit anything that remotely resembles an off-road tyre to this overpriced mall crawler. BaahhhaA.

I agree the off road tyre situation is not easy... we are working on a solution !
