Thank you for the video. Got 54K out of the rear 245/40R18 AS3's on my 2014 MB C250 coupe and was really happy with them . Had AS4's installed today which were about $28 more per tire than I could have gotten AS3+ . I figured $28 premium over 50K miles worth a try . Looking at them on the car cant see any real visual difference from the side . Seem to ride and handle well and are quiet as were AS3+. I run 41psi which seems to balance center tread wear well with outer tread wear . I reduced camber a bit with the SPC adjustable camber kit way back when the AS3's were installed . Wore out Conti Contact DWS in 10K miles on inner edge before reducing camber to negative 1 degree for the AS3's. Took out a tiny amount of rear toe , too since toe changes with camber setting . Got 46K out of AS3's on front and replaced with AS3+ since before AS4 was available . I'll stick with Michelin Pilot Sports on the MB .
This is a fantastic video! I need new tires on my Acura and have the 3+, but my tire place can only order the 4s so I wanted to see the difference. As I suspected, the 4s are an upgraded version of the 3+s. Thank you so much for the explanations. You gave every single important detail and more. I also loved your graphic overlays. I hope other people food this video useful. ❤❤❤❤❤ 😊
Have literally been waiting for a review like this for weeks, I too have the A/S 3+ tires needing replaced and been debating getting the new A/S 4 or sticking with the 3+. Thank you for the detailed differences and impressions.
@@Meekmillan the pilot sport 4, very pleased. Performance they are as good as the 3+ if not better. Very sticky tires for all seasons! I will say the 4 is noticeably softer than the 3+ was.
What a fantastic review, thank you! I lived in San Diego for decades, so am aware of the driving environment in California. I’m now in Maine, of course a drastically different environment. But I too am replacing AS3’s and this was so helpful to me that you compared the two tires. Much of what you tested will translate over the two environments. I do run Blizzaks in winter, although I sometimes get caught in snow with my all seasons. It’s an old WRX, so not a problem there. Gosh, I was so pleased with my AS3’s and I could easily (and legally pass inspection) for a couple more seasons but like with so many tires, they tend to get hard and lose a certain feel at around half life. They are wearing great, still balance well, etc., but I want max pleasure so I’m ordering a new set of the AS4’s as a birthday gift to myself and a 15th birthday present to the old Subie! Thanks again for the timely review and nice BMW! Much too nice for my neck of the woods!
Great video! I will add that I got a great opportunity to test the new AS4’s on my 2015 Lexus IS350 F-Sport AWD. We had 10” of snow dump down a few months back here in Idaho. The car didn’t skip a beat. Even with “snow mode” off, and traction control off, and my tune turned all the way up.... no problems.
Thank you for sharing this great and useful review. Like you, I've also changed from the AS3+ to AS4. And I completely agree with your assessment about being much quieter and a comfortable ride. As I was driving home, I noticed the noise level was muted. Its not vastly significant but definitely noticeable. Resulting in a more comfortable ride. Will see how it performs in the next while.
Very good report and road performance info. Currently running AS3+ 245/40/18 on Neuspeed RSe10 on our 2019 RS 3, now with a total 13k miles, 8.5k fast back road runs and very pleased with their performance. Will certainly consider the AS4 in the near future. Keep up the very good reviews and reporting style.
UPDATE - Now at 16,350 miles total with 11,540 miles being fast country back road runs. These 245/40/18 AS3+ tires continue to perform extremely well, but now nearing 3/32 tread depth. so will involve the Michelin 4S soon in the same size. They will be used heavily during our summer weather and longer run lengths at speed.
Great video!! Probably the most through review on tires I've ever watched. Manufacturers need to hire you to do reviews, or keep doing them on many many brands and get sponsors and become the "tire guy". Keep it up! Look forward to more videos. Following!!!
+1. The A/S 3+ tire has been the 3 season tire of choice for our GTI, 225/45/17, Subi Outback XT (17"), and Audi S3 (17"). I'll look forward to the new and improved A/S 4. . In high country Colorado winter M/S sneakers are a must. Pilot Alpins to the rescue. . Thanks for the A/S tire comparison - nicely produced. . Cheers, subscribed..
Yup, got to stay fast in the left lane, otherwise you'll be destroying your car. Surprised they haven't fixed it yet. I suspect this summer they'll be redoing that section.
I’m glad I came across your video with this comparison. Until I did, I wasn’t aware on the evolution to PS4 All-season. I own a ‘17 Camaro SS 1LE. Back when I bought it in 2017, I knew that I would need a winter wheel/tire set to get me through Atlanta’s winters. So, I researched tires first choosing the A/S 3+ which I could only get in 19” for my car. This pushed me to buy a second set of wheels (19”) for them. This wasn’t what I initially intended to do but it certainly makes swapping more convenient. Now, the A/S 3+ is available in a larger 19” size (325/30ZR19) which I think will look better on the 11” wide rears I chose to go with (fronts are 10”). Though I went with the widest available at the time (285/35ZR19), they are stretched on the 11’s, a look I’ve never been fond of. Of course, the 325/30’s should fix this appearance. So, yesterday I discovered the A/S 3+ comes in my original OE wheel sizes 😕. Ugh! I wish they had 4 years ago but I was forced into a more convenient option. Now, I see Michelin doesn’t make (yet anyway) this PS4 in the 19” sizes I would need. Here we go again 😕 I will just have to keep checking back with Michelin about every 6 months or so in hopes the size offerings are expanded.
Update! I checked back on the Michelin website and happy and relieved to report size offerings have expanded and are now available in both sizes I currently run for my all-season 19” wheel set: 285/35R19 for front 10” wide rim and 325/30R19 for rear 11” rim. Moreover, for us Camaro SS 1LE and ZL1 owners, these Michelin Pilot Sport All-season 4 tires are available now for both OEM 20” wheel sizes, 10” front and 11” rear rim widths (285/30R20 and 305/30R20). Thanks #michelin!
Getting these installed on my car on Friday. Can't wait! Coming from factory Grand Touring tires, to an UHP all season tire. The difference is gonna be night & day. Great review this is truly a successor to the AS3+.
Wow man, this is a great, detailed comparison and review. Pretty objective as well. Good job. I’m consider AS4 for my 128i as well. Thanks for your information
Perfect timing for this Post! The Bridgestone DriveGuard tires that came with my 328d have horrible grip when the road is wet! I definitely need to give these tires a try.
Great vid! I just had a pair of 275/40/20 A/S 4 tires installed on the front of my 2018 Challenger R/T Scatpack and am so impressed with them that I will be having another pair installed prior to snow season here in Kansas! 😎
How are they in the rain bro? I hear the 275s can be bad in the rain since they are wider. I have a 2016 scat pack challenger and about to purchase new ones.
That drive reminds me of Hwy 101 on my way to Petaluma. :-) I just had one of my AS3's replaced under Discount Tire's warranty. But that was it. The next time a screw takes out a tire, I'll probably have to replace them all. Thanks for sharing the difference.
Got AS4 for the GTI, lower noise and softer than firestone indi500s. For daily it's perfect if you don't track the car. While summer tire is great on track, road noise was terrible and too hard for daily. AS4's Smoother and quieter ride can let you drive faster for highway and have more grip over uneven surfaces
@@Ayeitsscott well 6 months later, they are alright. I’m tuned stage 2 e85 and they’ll spin in 1 st and 2nd. They grip great for all seasons, I don’t have a comparison with a summer tire, but they are pretty okay. If you want more grip, look elsewhere.
Those are the same Michelin pilot sport all season 4’s I have on our Infiniti Q70L and our 2021 Challenger R/T scat pack widebody shaker. Considering that I live on the high Desert here in Albuquerque New Mexico. Temperatures can dip below 28° and can be as high as 98° on a hot summer day. These Michelin tires are truly performing exceptional regardless of the outside temperature. Don’t forget the New C8 Corvette comes in a run flat A.k.a. zero pressure Michelin.
A nice sized midwest pothole ate one of my AS3+ hopefully I can mix in a couple AS4 without throwing my AWD car off. 🤞🏾🤞🏾 Thanks for a great comparison video!
Not cheap, but what, it's like 0.5% the cost of your car? I tried my first set of AS3+ a year ago, and I see why everyone says once you go to the pilot sport series tires, you never go back.
Good review! I had put new P/S A/S 3+ on my car last May and found out late summer about the new A/S 4. I am now in the market for new tires on my wife's car. Currently has Primacy MXM4 which have been pretty nice but I want to try the A/S 4 on her car. We don't drive hard, I just want the performance to be there when I need to be.
... I disliked the MXM4 as the OE tire on my 04 GTI. To me, it was a 5or6 out 10 tire. Nothing real exciting to write home about. I replaced (after 40k miles) with then PS A/S3 which was a better tire imo.
Thank you for all the feedback. I just realized that my wife's Ford Escape AWD vehicle needs to have the same tread depth because of the AWD feature on this SUV. Consequently, since she had tire damage to one of her tires I'm comparing the difference in circumference between the AS3+ and the AS4 before I replace the two rear tires. My tolerance seems to be between 2/32nd and 4/32nd's in tread depth on the set of "like" tires... so, a lot of good food for thought. Thanks again!
I have had A/S3 and A/S3+ and I should probably just go with the A/S4 but I still find the ride is a tad bit harsh with them. (the older models) Although it looks like the A/S4 is better in that regard as well. Great comparison thanks for taking your time to make this one.
I have run AS3+ for quite a while on my vehicles and will move to the AS4 when they wear out. One thing, not trying to be critical. To get a proper comparison between ride, noise, and grip the only way to really do it is with a set of new tires with the same wear on them. New tires will typically feel software and quieter just due to there being more tread. As the tread wears down most tires, especially asymmetrical tires, tend to get noiser. None will ever be as bad as Eagle F1's, the worst performance tires I have ever tried, but either way the treads block, as there is less of a water channel, magnify road noise more. I am not trying to dampen your review, which was excellent. I am just wanted to put that out there it is the only way to get a proper comparison between tires.
Excellent points! I am running AS3+ 245/40/18 on our 2019 RS 3, after having failures within several weeks with stock 235/35/19 Conti ExtremeContact tires and our VA country back road runs at speed and their now poor surface conditions due to poor maintenance that caused sidewall failures. The side wall height of the 235/35/19 simply didn't survive such hits! Now with 12,320 miles on the AS3+ I will replace them with the AS4 before winter sets in and we' will make many back road runs in the spring. We run 80-100 miles per trip 3 times a week weather permitting, so our 'back road' use is considerable compared to most drivers, given we run these roads an average 12k miles per year and have for quite a few years. The PRIMARY reason we bought the Audi RS 3!
Great review! I've run the Pilot Sport A/S series tires from the beginning on a VW Mk4 TDI and I've found all of them to be the perfect balance between mileage, handling and ride. Bonus points for driving in the slow lane of SB 680, too, that's a nasty stretch!
I've been using the AS3 on my BMW 3 series and the AS4 on my Lexus GS. I thought the AS4 on the GS drove much softer than the AS3 on the BMW but I'm now realizing that it has a lot more to do with the suspension and tuning than the tire (in my case). I was worried about replacing the Primacy MXM that came on my Tesla model 3 with the AS4 but thanks to your video I think it'll be fine.
I switched from an AS3+ 255/35/18 on the front for an E90 335i to a AS4 245/35/18 (to limit some rubbing). I immediately noticed how much more comfort-leaning the AS4's were. They did have really good grip but they had significantly less feel and worse initial turn in. If you were to turn the steering wheel less than 5 degrees or so, you almost get no response out of the AS4 until they load up. I think I'm about 5 months and maybe around 5k miles into AS4 ownership give or take and I can't take them anymore for this car. I am switching from the AS4's to a set of AS3+'s that I have sourced. The E90 has a fantastic hydraulic steering rack (I upgraded to the M3 one as well) and the AS4 takes the fun out of it. Furthermore, the AS3+ tends to add a little more sport to the sports-luxury feel that is the BMW E90 platform which is appreciated. The AS3+ just has a superior steering feel that the AS4 and most of the UHP AS tires cannot match.
you have to remember though, you were used to driving on the worn tires so the new ones will seem dramatically quieter. the softer sidewall feel is due to tread squirm compared to the worn tread on the old tires.
@@tedtedness184 ... Easy there Teddy.. The tire comparison wasn't suggesting an empirical test. . User's of Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires are grateful for this casual tire comparison. . Performance tires are worth every penny.
Love my A/S4 on my 2020 GTI. Improved the ride, quietness and my performance from the stock Bridgestone Poteza crap tires that came with the car. I highly recommend them! Note if you have a Tesla, that car is just noisy because it lacks sound insulation, so no tire will improve that ruckus.
I have a ‘16 GTI and put on 40k miles on the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE97 and I agree, not only they were terrible in all areas but downright dangerous to drive in the rain at under 30k, had more punctures than any other tire I had, and it developed cracks towards the end. I currently have the A/S 3+, and it has been mostly good after 30k miles with them and probably will get another 5k-10k before I swap them for the A/S 4.
Thank you for your hard work I’m waiting for my tires pilot sport 4 and after seeing your video I’m very happy I did currently riding the continental 6+ and I have to say excelente grip but base in your experience looks like I’m going to get more grip. On my c7 zo6. Thanks.
AS4s on a rear wheel drive BMW perform better than my previous AWD car with Pirelli. No traction loss in heavy rain and they absorb all the bumps in NYC and NJ even on 20s .
I have a 2020 GTI and they seem quiet to me. They are great handling tires, absolutely no regrets. So much better than the horrible Bridgestone Potenza tires that came with the car.
I just installed these on my Cadillac CTS and they are great. They are definitely worth it. I was gonna go with the Goodyear eagle sport all season but after some research I went with the Michelin’s. I noticed a difference in sound on the highway but nothing y’all grown men can’t handle.
Notwithstanding the worn vs new issue; I conxur with your conclusions. I think the AS4s are floatier than the AS3+. I actually prefer the grab the road feel of the AS3+ because I don't live in a snow climate.
@@benhaze1010 So good. Ran me about $1300 for all 4, but they're fire. Great grip around tight turns. I feel super confident if I'm caught in torrential downpour. I'm in NJ and we got no snow at all this past winter, so I can't speak for how they are in snow/ice, but I'd imagine as respectfully good as in rain and tight turns. Smoothe ride but you can still feel the road. Not rock hard for ride like my previous Pirelli's, but not bouncy like you're in a caddie. 😁
@@FacelessMachine Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I was so disappointed with the AS3+. I was considering the PS4 but for our climate in Quebec that would mean needing 3 sets of wheels/tires to be able to use the Mustang almost year around.
Thanks for the comparison on these two tires. A nice advice on buying guide. Mines are A/S 3+, 245/40/R18, 265/35/R18, with 35000 miles service life so far, still work fine, it's just kinda worn out. I also have test drive there on Niles Canyon Rd., that's why I found it a little familiar : ))
The quiet ride is more a component of old verse new tires. Basically new tires have more rubber between the road and the steel belting in the tire. Also, the human ear perceives a change in volume (sound) between 3 to 5 dBs. Hope this helps!
Nice review. I wonder if the slightly softer ride quality and slightly more sluggish steering response of the newer tire were due to the comparison being between a brand new tire with full tread depth and a worn tire with minimal tread. Tread blocks deflect under load, and the deeper the tread the more the deflection. I had a similar experience when I replaced my Michelin Pilot Super Sports with a set of Pilot Sport 4 S (though some reviewers note the PSS is the stiffer of the two when both are new). If you don’t need snow traction, the PS4S is a good way to go.
Excellent video. Thanks you! Timely because I’ve been recommending the 4 just based on Michelin’s recent success when they have introduced upgraded models. Thanks for the data and impressions confirming that! I’m sure the 4’s are quieter but I also wonder if some of the measured noise improvement is due to having full depth new tread as a cushion? TireRack had a firesale on 3+. Time to stalk local C&C’s to find someone with a new set. Or just hack local tire shipping records. Oops, probably shouldn’t have said that out loud. 😀 Looking forward to the sequel video “FaRKle! does Tahoe! Tire Tests In Snow! ❄️
Another contributor to the noise reduction could be the tread pattern. The AS4 has a lot more grooves that are angled more longitudinally along the tire whereas the AS3+ they're really all perpendicular to the tire.
I really appreciated your review..and especially in your BMW Sportwagon..I previously had. '15 F31 that I had replaced the o.e. run flats with Continental ExtremeContact DWS (older version). Appears from your comments, you're also familiar with the Conti DWS tire and have chosen to stay with the Michelin. Would love more commentary on the Michelin / Continental UHP All Season comparisons. Am debating now between the two for my MINI Roadster S...which is coming off Continental DW Sport summer tires but I want more spring/fall driving capability in my colder Midwest climate.
Yup, I've had DWS06 and ExtremeContact Sports on this car. The DWS06 has a much softer sidewall and I needed higher pressures to get good feedback. The DWS06 were definitely better offroad (dirt/gravel roads) than the Michelins, but both I can maintain good speeds. I think the DWS06 felt a bit more confident in heavy water too.
@@moffo2626 ... Don't even think about snow,, when fitted with Pilot Sport A/S 3+. .. Downright scary! .. The A/S 3+ is a 3 season performance tire after all. . Big Michelin Fan.. Bring on the Pilot Alpin winter M/S.
Great review! I've gone through two sets of the AS3's on my GTI and it's time for replacements. I was slightly concerned the AS4 might not be as good of a tire, but you've helped put my mind at ease.
@@EEEBA1 Think of the as3 as a summer tires with a compound that tolerates temps below 40f. I always ran a dedicated winter tire December through March because the as3 is scary if there's more than a skiff of snow and you want to brake or turn.
Great film presence. Can't wait for those tires to be available for the Tesla Model 3 Performance, which need the 235/35 R20 size. The sidewall protecting the rims is the primary benefit for me.
They said that these tires have a more pliable tread but the actual base that the tread is attached to a stiffer. That retains the handling characteristics but allows the tire to better cope with snow traction. That might be why they feel like they have a softer sidewall.
Great video, I was curious about road noise, I found my AS3+ (255-35-19) to be noisy. I am now trying Firestone Indy 500's and they're definitely quieter. I may try these when I'm due again.
Good review...just purchased the 20in AS4 tires for the rear on my Panamera thru Simple Tire via ebay for $100 cheaper per tire than the AS3+. For whatever reason Simple Tire didn't offer the AS4 tire as an option for my vehicle thru their website. I only found out they were an option thru searching Discount Tire. Maybe Simple Tire is trying to get rid of the remaining AS3+ tires first before offering/promoting the AS4s. The reviews seem to be very good for both tires but I was curious as to what the difference between the two are.
In Seattle with temps usually above 40F, I drive Michelin PS4S year round for my M235i. I've got another set of wheels/AS tires for the rare winter weather that drops below 30 but if it snows I'd either not drive or I'd take the Jeep if I really had to get somewhere. I don't see the point of an AS tire anywhere in California that isn't in the mountains. Year round average temps are usually above 40F, where a summer performance tire would perform better in wet/dry handling and braking under all circumstances. And if you're in the mountains, a winter tire would be much better than any AS tire. AS tires are a compromise where they underperform winter tires in the snow and underperform summer tires under all situations above 40F. The only reason I'd consider an AS tire would be if I made regular trips to the mountains and for some reason couldn't have a 2nd of winter tires for winter.
I happen to do a fair amount of dirt/gravel road driving and an AS tire definitely has more grip than summer (I've tried getting away with summers for those surfaces). Also, AS tires tend to last longer, so for the crowd looking for longevity it could be a better choice.
@@redandblack1911 the PS4S beats the PSAS4 in all metrics (wet/dry handling) other than wet braking, just barely (50-3 MPH: PS4S @ 94.25' & PSAS4 @ 92.96') th-cam.com/video/421HkK4Nqss/w-d-xo.html
Great review! I just ordered the Michelin AS4 for both my rears. I just replaced the two front tires with the AS3+ last year, and still have a lot of tread life. Would it be alright to run the AS3+ in the front, and AS4 in the rear? I drive a 04 330i zhp (RWD)
Ideally, you want the same tire on all 4 corners (especially AWD) but like someone said, they’re probably so close you’ll be fine. But don’t you plan on rotating your tires?? Cuz of you do, the AS4’s will end up on the front eventually.
I drive on a lot of dirt and gravel roads, whether that be going to a friend's ranch, or doing outdoors stuff on the weekends. Summer tires don't handle nearly as well as all seasons on those roads (I've tried).
hmm, can't wait to see more tests. I have the AS3+ and they're great in most weather but not good enough in cold snow weather (talking 0 deg here). 10% improvement? probably negligible honestly. Dunno about performance in 32 deg snow though, but the performance is not confidence inspiring in zero deg weather with a small (1 inch layer of snow). I'll definitely check these out as a good all season tire though cause the AS3+ are great
I have a 2018 Challenger V6 it’s time to replace tires. I was recommended primacy MXM for Michelin or Continental DWS06+ what should I go with? I’m in California Los Angeles to be exact.
I came from a P Zero and these Michelins are loud! But holy hell the grip is insane. I put these on a mk7.5 gti & I cannot get the wheels to spin as easily. They just lock up!
I found the A/S4 incredibly noisy on my BMW. Especially during turns. Very disappointed. I’ve been buying Michelin’s for years and this is the first tire that I regret purchasing.
As tires wear them become noiser. I just replaced my AS 3+ for AS 4's on my WRX. I like the new tires so far. But most of the NVH improvement is down to new tires verses old tires. The old tires had 30k miles on them. To make a fair comparison you need to compare new to new.
I had the AS4 tires (20K miles put on them with one track day at Palmer) and replaced them with the Continental DWS06 Plus ... I found the AS4 tires had a slight shift when cornering in a spirited manner... the middle area moves slightly as I have seen in other videos ... I am more impressed with the Continental tires ...
over 3 years later and still gave me a perfect comparison what a great video!
About time someone made this comparison and feature AS4. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the video. Got 54K out of the rear 245/40R18 AS3's on my 2014 MB C250 coupe and was really happy with them .
The "tire coating" you mentioned is really a "release compound" that enable the tires to more easily be removed from the tire mold during manufacture.

I'll look forward to the new and improved A/S 4. . In high country Colorado winter M/S sneakers are a must. Pilot Alpins to the rescue. . Thanks for the A/S tire comparison - nicely produced. . Cheers, subscribed..
Great review! Got a good laugh at 680 being your bumpy pothole test road. I hate that section of road. Bent a wheel right there years ago.
I recognize this portion of 680 as well and avoid that lane as much as possible! 🤣
I just got as4 replaced my as3+.
AS4 made in Mexico, AS3+ used to make in USA.
AS4 is compatible with ev but not AS3+
AS4 is 12% more expensive.
You did an excellent job on this comparison. Thanks for all the info.
Just the video I was hoping to watch! Excellent real road commentary.
I see 680 is still a bumpy ride all these years later from when I used to drive on it lol.
Perfect timing for this Post! The Bridgestone DriveGuard tires that came with my 328d have horrible grip when the road is wet! I definitely need to give these tires a try.
These will be much better than those run flats!
Great vid! I just had a pair of 275/40/20 A/S 4 tires installed on the front of my 2018 Challenger R/T Scatpack and am so impressed with them that I will be having another pair installed prior to snow season here in Kansas! 😎
@Ron L How are they in the rain?
How are they in the rain bro? I hear the 275s can be bad in the rain since they are wider. I have a 2016 scat pack challenger and about to purchase new ones.
@@HimothyJonez top notch, better than any other tire I’ve ever had on my Challenger!
How are your A/S 4s in the snow?
That drive reminds me of Hwy 101 on my way to Petaluma. :-) I just had one of my AS3's replaced under Discount Tire's warranty. But that was it. The next time a screw takes out a tire, I'll probably have to replace them all. Thanks for sharing the difference.

Great video. One thing to mention is the 4S is made in Mexico & the 3+ is made in USA 🤷🏽🤔
I just picked some up for my Gti, definitely better grip over stock tires
@@Ayeitsscott well 6 months later, they are alright. I’m tuned stage 2 e85 and they’ll spin in 1 st and 2nd. They grip great for all seasons, I don’t have a comparison with a summer tire, but they are pretty okay. If you want more grip, look elsewhere.
@@Ayeitsscott agreed brother, look into the new continental hoosier tires, they look promising
I am in the same debate, thank you for a thorough review and complete testing. Made my decision for me.
Exactly what I was looking for. I need tires for my 04 LS430 Sport Suspension. I just got new struts and am definitely gonna get these. Thank you.
A nice sized midwest pothole ate one of my AS3+ hopefully I can mix in a couple AS4 without throwing my AWD car off. 🤞🏾🤞🏾
Thanks for a great comparison video!
Just bought the AS4 after the AS3+, I like the traction feel so far, hopefully they last longer then my old AS3+ tires. Not cheap.
Not cheap, but what, it's like 0.5% the cost of your car? I tried my first set of AS3+ a year ago, and I see why everyone says once you go to the pilot sport series tires, you never go back.
Definitely an expensive product but worth every penny
280 South near San Francisco, I used to drive this road EVERY DAY for nearly 10 years.
It’s definitely worth spending extra money on a good tire. I bought some cheap tires on tirerack and the drone of the tires was horrible.
And safety…
I have had A/S3 and A/S3+ and I should probably just go with the A/S4 but I still find the ride is a tad bit harsh with them. (the older models) Although it looks like the A/S4 is better in that regard as well. Great comparison thanks for taking your time to make this one.
I also have the AS3+ and they are really harsh. I am hesitant about giving Michelin another chance for all season high performance tires...
New vs worn makes a big difference especially in noise. How do you think the 4 would compare with a new 3+?
Impressed! Highly appreciated!
Thanks! Always great to hear from another local!
Excellent review!! I literally just ordered a set...
The AS3+ just has a superior steering feel that the AS4 and most of the UHP AS tires cannot match.
couldn't agree with you more man
you have to remember though, you were used to driving on the worn tires so the new ones will seem dramatically quieter. the softer sidewall feel is due to tread squirm compared to the worn tread on the old tires.
Unless you test the same amount of wear you DON"T have a viable test. PERIOD. This test is basically worthless.
Great review!!! I'm buying these for my S4 right now!
Glad to hear they seem more quiet. My only issue with the AS3+ was the dull roar of road noise, esp at around town speeds of 35-45 mph.
I have a 2020 GTI and they seem quiet to me. They are great handling tires, absolutely no regrets. So much better than the horrible Bridgestone Potenza tires that came with the car.
@@marktepper3440 I had them on a 2017 GTI (sold). They were great tires, just more noisy than the Hankooks the car came with.
They are pretty awful in snow, and are noisy, but excellent on everything else.
I just installed these on my Cadillac CTS and they are great. They are definitely worth it. I was gonna go with the Goodyear eagle sport all season but after some research I went with the Michelin’s. I noticed a difference in sound on the highway but nothing y’all grown men can’t handle.
Very well done. Exactly what I was looking for.
Notwithstanding the worn vs new issue; I conxur with your conclusions. I think the AS4s are floatier than the AS3+. I actually prefer the grab the road feel of the AS3+ because I don't live in a snow climate.
1000% agree. Switching back to the AS3+'s for just this reason.
Looking for new tires on my 2013 S4 and was trying to decide between these two. Thank you for an excellent video!
Loved your video! Getting the AS4's put on my '19 Mustang GT tomorrow. Can't wait to try them out!
Hey how did it go? I am considering the AS4 also for a Mustang GT.

Sharp eye!
Very informative. And you’re right.......different frequencies do have a greater attenuation.
The quiet ride is more a component of old verse new tires. Basically new tires have more rubber between the road and the steel belting in the tire. Also, the human ear perceives a change in volume (sound) between 3 to 5 dBs. Hope this helps!
Thank you for your comment. That’s not something I would’ve thought, but obvious.
Hey, you are close to me.. That's 680 south towards Fremont. Bad road for sure. Thanks for the review.
Good eye! Yup, that's 680 alright.
Just got a set for my 370z. GREAT VID!!
Those are some pretty creamy rims...will be going with the as4 from as3+ this week thanks to this vid!
I have the AS3+ on a q50, they are awesome
I’m putting them on my Rays either Monday or Tuesday
Same here, makes the car drive 10x better than with the shitty stock runflats

Great review! Super detailed, yet concise & well constructed

@Jonathan Hughes .. So true +
Great film presence. Can't wait for those tires to be available for the Tesla Model 3 Performance, which need the 235/35 R20 size. The sidewall protecting the rims is the primary benefit for me.
Wow 20"? I didn't know the Model 3s came with wheels that large.

Also, AS tires tend to last longer, so for the crowd looking for longevity it could be a better choice.
how much better handling is the 4s vs the 4 AS?
@@redandblack1911 the PS4S beats the PSAS4 in all metrics (wet/dry handling) other than wet braking, just barely (50-3 MPH: PS4S @ 94.25' & PSAS4 @ 92.96')

The AS3+ and AS4 are probably close enough in grip that you can run them mixed. Also since you have RWD it won't matter as much. Nice ZHP!
@@FaRKle0079 great to know! Thanks!
Ideally, you want the same tire on all 4 corners (especially AWD) but like someone said, they’re probably so close you’ll be fine. But don’t you plan on rotating your tires?? Cuz of you do, the AS4’s will end up on the front eventually.
Curious why you go with an all season over a sport in CA? I never had an issue with sport tires until I moved from OC to Seattle.
I'll definitely check these out as a good all season tire though cause the AS3+ are great
Just ordered these for my 2021 Supra, I’ve driven AS3+ tires on a C5 corvette many times and LOVE them. So happy to put these AS4 on the Soupra
Thank you.
hi. How is the road noise so far since you have had tires. Great video by the way!!
I have a 2018 Challenger V6 it’s time to replace tires. I was recommended primacy MXM for Michelin or Continental DWS06+ what should I go with? I’m in California Los Angeles to be exact.
I'd pick the DWS06+ out of those. It's a great tire.
Keep in mind that quite a few more sizes of this tire will be available on July 1st 2021, per Michelin.
I came from a P Zero and these Michelins are loud! But holy hell the grip is insane. I put these on a mk7.5 gti & I cannot get the wheels to spin as easily. They just lock up!
Excellent video! Thank you.
I am more impressed with the Continental tires ...
dws are squishy as hell. I'm going the complete opposite hoping the as4 would be better in the corners.
