      This video is talking about the history of two different ways of life that need to be thought about when rebuilding, it is not saying they people that burned are not important.

      This video is about rebuilding Lahaina, unfortunately you cannot rebuild people who died.

    The streams dried up when the sugar cane businessman dammed up the streams to divert waters for the cash crop....... Those diversion dams are still there diverting water for mostly privatized land owners usage.....

    I never knew much about Hawaii until recently. There are probably a lot of people that feel that way. I do know that many Native Hawaiin people cannot afford to live in Hawaii, and I know there is a military base that pays little to be there, even arguably illegally while they test blowing up weapons on sacred land. But I have listened to many Hawaiin people in the reports since the fire and feel like they are people with a better mind/heart awareness of the land and community. I would enjoy being around them, but I would have to win the lottery even to visit.

    People are so stupid.
    The one thing i don't hear people talking about with rebuilding Lahaina even from the climate change people is that they claim places like Lahaina will be underwater in 10 to 20 years. So why spend millions if not billions rebuilding a town that will be underwater.
    So i guess sea level rise is not a thing anymore.
    Pay attention people

      Good point, but Lahaina isn't Miami or New Orleans in these regards. It will take years to rebuild so this might be taken into consideration.

      @boggle272 Lahaina wasn't a city. And it will take 50 years for the trees to fully grow bad. The truth is Lahaina is a European style town.

      It's going to take 50 years for the trees to become fully grown. It's going to take time and it's going to incorporate Native Hawaiian elements.

      @@bobbykiefer4306 The Lahaina that most people knew was built for tourists to resemble a New England Whaling Village. While it true that whaling was part of its history, the buildings which burned in the tourist center of First Street are from the 1960's and not from the whaling era (1800's). Many trees survived the fire and will regrow. There were almost NO Native Hawaiian elements in Lahaina town. Many photos and drawings remain of the different eras that the town went through so the area could be re built and it certainly wouldn't take 50 years. Did you ever visit?

  • @leanneadams2549
    @leanneadams2549 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The native people of Hawaii SHOULD get a percent royalties on ALL the tourist money !!!! It’s THEIR land !!! Some or most Indigenous people who own casinos get a percent and I belief it’s called per cap. Why can’t the native Hawaiians have that on the resorts that are on their land ? Geez it’s times like this that I wished I did more with my life to make a difference instead of just being a postal worker 😢 because these people matter ! They are what makes Hawaii- Hawaii !!! Sadly the greedy, muderdous animals don’t understand that !!!

    • @Pepeekeo808
      @Pepeekeo808 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are NO Native Hawaiians in Hawaii. The ancestors of the original Polynesians who arrived on Hawaii all died from he diseases Captain Cook and his men brought to the islands. However, before they all died many of the Native Hawaiian women married with the Chinese workers brought in to work the fields. The children from these marriages survived and are the ancestors of the "Native Hawaiians" one sees in Hawaii today. Many other ethnic groups were also brought in to work the fields and they all inter married and produced a wonderful "melting pot".

      school bus and kids? I read some comments about this. also read comments about a direct energy weapon. is this some kind of mental illness going around? I read that public schools had been cancelled in Lahaina on the 8th because of concern about flying debris.
