- Lahaina Historic District was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962. KITV4's Diane Ako shares some of the history of this onetime capital of the former kingdom.
Maui deserves a better leader . They should invested more in their fire departments
The Banyan Tree will become the symbol of the new Lahaina.
I know the people of Maui will rebuild and bring things back. Hope your Banyon tree survives. Is it possible to collect some seeds off of it to grow some baby Banyons?
In Florida we have nice Banyon trees most likely came from there.
@@Patrick-yh5yd Banyan trees (Ficus benghalensis) originated in India. Why would you assume the Banyan in Lahaina came from FL?
We’re so grateful the banyan tree survived. It’s like God is protecting us from danger. So thank you God for protecting our banyan tree. We’re gonna work super hard to protect it. So lets do Hawaii. We got a tree rescue. We need 4,000 gallons of clean water, and fertilizer. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Matson’s barge Haleakala departed Honolulu Thursday afternoon with 160 containers bound for Kahului in Maui, where it is due Friday morning. Matson says they can keep that level of resupply going indefinitely.
Matson going make money off of this not surprising
help@@HawaiiSustainable
Yes, why don't you go over to help rebuild Lahaina and work for free if you think its such a good idea for Matson to do the same?@@HawaiiSustainable
@@Pepeekeo808 Aye Gary we going but that's not what Matson doing they don't care just doing what they always do
What is Matson?
It’s beyond belief 😢😢
Rising insurance costs will de-house you
Hopefully native Hawaiians will get to live in Maui and reclaim it.
you don't know what you're talking about troll
Hope they will not rebuild with a full « modern » building you can find everywhere over the world.
Such a pity for all these people
So true. So many cookie cutter places being built for quick cash.
These wood buildings are the reason this town went up in flames like kindling. Modern architecture is regulated to protect lives and property. That’s the only reason people build the way they do.
heartbraking :C
Thanks for this video. I was wondering what the history was that everyone keeps saying is now lost.
There was an incredible museum in Lahaina that housed artifacts which went back to the pre contact days before Captain Cook "discovered" the islands. There were also many pieces from the Whaling Days that were destroyed. The display area was not large, but many artifacts were kept in storage areas nearby. They are all gone now.
@@Pepeekeo808 That is sad to lose those things.
The town will be rebuilt, life and commerce will return. It won't be quite the same, but that's OK. Life is change. Learn, adapt, grow, continue. Good times will return. And many opportunities will exist for people who are willing to work and contribute to the rebuilding.

I would say build back better.
Water that tree!
Put your Faith and Trust in Abba Father God
Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Psalms 9:10
“And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”
Psalms 28:7
“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”
Psalms 112:7
“He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.”
Psalms 118:8
“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”
Remember the fourth commandment KJV is reminding us of Genesis 2:2&3. Jesus is our example.
Tried to get these people to sale, well plan B.
Somebody in the 'club' wants that location.
The US Seamen’s Hospital stone building had its roof and windows burned down but the rest still stands. Hope they will leave it as a monument.
Here for the salt in the burn
Look at chicago....we rebuilt that.....we shall prevail, say your prayers and think positive
Hermann Melville jumped ship in LA Haina punishable by death by hanging.
and unfortunately Lahaina turned into a t-shirt mall.
Love Not the world
1 John 2:15-17
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Remember the fourth commandment KJV is reminding us of Genesis 2:2&3. Jesus is our example.
Why can't they build the whole town out of banyan tree?
This was horrible. Other cities in the states need fires but not this.
Amazing how building structures were decimated and vaporized, then you have green trees literally still standing untouched. This was intentional! Done under the cover of night like they did to Paradise, California and Northern California. It’s called Directed Energy Weapons.
@kawehionalani3957 You really need an education about fire and stop spouting crazy stuff that’s not true.
@@fracturedfauve okay. Please explain how the boats ON THE WATER were burnt out? Just stay in your ignorant lane 🤙🏽
@@kawehionalani Education and science in fire as well as fire behavior would be key to answering your questions.
Rather than bickering the focus should be on the people of Maui and helping them through the grief of loosing loved ones, homes and businesses. Doing what can be done to help with humanitarian efforts of rebuilding lives from this tragedy.
@@fracturedfauve Actually you need to educate yourself. Go search for the starting of the canadian fires. They all started at the same time and you can see it on the videos. Care to explain th at? Maui's fire was moving like a freight train and causing fire cyclones that were 200 ft tall that moved up and down the street, incinerating everything in it's path. But you want to believe it is caused by a hurricane almost 1,000 miles away. smh
Settler history.
Narrow streets, back to back buildings with lax fire codes. Been there, had bad vibes. Stayed in Kihei eventually.
