Great discussion of "truck guns"! On the Sig 320FLUX-9-LEGION, which Sig optic was being used and was that a Warrior Poet "bungeed" sling adapted for single-point use? And the PSA 300 Blk Out had a Primary Arms SLx MD-25 Optic?
I think carrying the biggest, most powerful system you can reasonably carry and secure in your vehicle while still being able to quickly deploy would be the right answer. Those requirements will be different for each person based on vehicle, potential occupants, and “working environment”.
Yeah but are you getting the necessary velocities for 5.56 out of that short barrel? If not, then the 300 is a better choice if you want the gun to be short.
uhhh... shotgun and levergun considerations.... there are parts of this country where I'm more likely to run into a 4 legged bad guy than a human.... one of the perks is that the PCC... might be worth something if it's a 44 mag out of a 20" barrel lever gun... and a 12 guage is big enough to blow a hole in anything that walks the earth.
You never know what situations you’ll encounter it’s best to go with a weapon that’s in between, like 300 blackout with suppressed 110-120 grains suppers I know it’s not ideal than a 200-220 grains subs but like you said about the threats my have level 3+ Body armor and I would want something a lot faster and heavier than a 9mm or I would even take a 62-69 grain 556 out of a 10.3 ARP because I’ll be good with close quarters or medium distance.
Yea my budget for a rifle and ammo to practice with I went with the 11.5 upper on a pistol lower from PSA that I’ve been taking my extra money with and upgrading it over the years.
In recent years PSA has been coming out with good quality gear for a budget price. Not only that but I see them innovating and coming out with new products. Good choice.
It’s funny you put this video out. I have been trying to figure out if I go with that Legion Flux or like the Sig Rattler LT .300blackout. Already contacted Sig and they make a threaded barrel for the Legion Flux. So I would go Suppressed with either one. Max range would be 100 yards tops. I just don’t know enough about the .300 round. I’ve owned 9mm, .556, .308, .380 calibers. Just never .300 blackout.
Noone considers a bullpup a truck gun anymore. Full velocity in a mk18 compact package. I get it, i get it, if its a shtf you want to be able to swap parts. Although, I have to agree with Tim on the MCX owning a few myself, its gonna be a toss up between Virtus/Spear lt 11.5/300blk/x39, 14.5 URGI, or my SLR 7.5 308 pistol (baby howitzer)
I agree that it depends on your area and life routine. I have all the calibers presented. But I universally use a 7.5 300Blk for home defense and vehicle gun. I have no more than 100 yrds to the edge of my property line in any direction. And if I use it beyond 200yrds outside of home and property? I may have some explaining to do as to why I needed to shot that far out in a personal protection situation in my area.
Being in a hotter with Madonna would be like swimming in a septic tank. As for truck gun storage, look into ESP under the back seat storage gun vaults.
Anything over 2000 fps in the 7-6" barrel length. Therefore, 7.62x39 in a highly modded Ak pistol, or especially the Sig LT in the 7" same caliber, or the Supers in .300 blk in the same barrel length, is everything one needs. Nothing else matters. Because imho, .300 Subs has always been useless to me, unless you're a stealthy super spidey hunter delta seal team specialist, doing up close and personal work throughout a terrorists home.
Your absolutely correct i know SUBS are quite but when SHTF I’m not worried about how quite I can be so give me some 110-120 grains 300 blk out Suppers all day
Exactly. I ALWAYS pack 300blk in supers. Still suppressed but definitely supers. You got a bigger bullet, I think slowing it way down is just a waste. 300blk supers gel block tests sold me on that. Theyre PLENTY nasty to get the job done.
@@edwinufos you're not spelling that correctly. It is spelled "quiet," and "quietly," that you were meaning. Not "quite" or "quitely," which I'm not even sure is an accurate or effect usage of the word 'quite.' Just, FYI.
I prefer 6.5 Creedmoor, if I can just pick the caliber of my choosing. Then again, I've always been a bigger fan of the 'AR-10' platform, then the AR-15 one. I'm sure that (if cost isn't the issue) there may be found an AR-10-style, platform, with a collapsible buttstock. 'Qualifying' it, in terms of overall, total length, for this "truck guns" topic of conversation. Far superior 'firepower', ballistically, than that .300 blackout could ever even dream of performing at. Of course, during a decent portion of my time as an 11Bravo, I carried a M240B - at something like 28lbs., by itself. Thus, my concern isn't such things as the overall weight of the weapon, or the barrel length being 4" longer than someone else's 'carbine'. Whenever we would implace, and open up with 7.62x51 - fully automatic, belt fed - it definitely had everyone else's attention, as the weapon they desperately wanted to avoid drawing ANY attention from.
@@BD-11B_OIF-1 7.62x51 is better/easier to acquire than 6.5. But due to many factors that have that AR10 platform malfunctioning? I’d still rather have the 7.62x39 in AK (Custom built: Jim Fuller, Krebs, Definitive Arms etc.), or the new Sig LT in 7.62x39. Or that 300 blk, with supers. Now, if money was no issue? Yeah, I’d buy 20,000 rounds of 6.5 or the new 8.5 blk, and call it a day. Get a long range rifle, and a semi auto in an AR platform pushing the same caliber.😃
Great Video but as someone that carries everyday a full size pistol like my SIG 1911 TacOps 45acp loaded with Double Tap 450SMC 185gr Controlled Expansion JHP Ballistics : 1350fps - 749 ft./lbs. - 5" 1911, SIG P220 10mm Legion loaded with Underwood 135gr JHP that I have Chrono at 1600 FPS and 768 Ft/Lbs, SIG P226 40SW loaded with Underwood 135gr JHP MV 1400 FPS and ME 588 Ft/Lbs. I am a great believer in the 7.62x39 and have setup a CZ Bren 2ms 14 inch barrel that has a Pinned and Welded Muzzle device for an overall barrel length of 16.4 inches and it has a HK G36 folding Stock loaded with Underwood 123gr Controlled Chaos or a Custom build 11.5 inch M400 with Larue Trigger and SB Tac PDW brace that is a very small package that fits my Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk underneath the backseat while in a black weapon case that just disappears beneath the seat but it is still easy to access from the front seat. Because of all the Craziness lately I am currently working on building a 10mm AR15 type PCC with a 10 inch Match barrel and KAC Linear Comp and I am also at the same time working on a 45acp that will be loaded with 450 SMC. Both of the AR PCC will take Glock Mags and will be backup for both the Gen 4 Glock 20 and 21 that are carry if I am going to be going to the bad side of town. 9mm is not a caliber to be used for an Active Shooter or CWP in my opinion and that comes from nearly 33 years of carrying a concealed weapon and being a Small Arms instructor both as a Civilian and while I served in the Military. Now days I have a small custom firearms business that keeps me out of trouble but ready if the SHTF!
I think you have the perfect truck gun. I wouldn’t think you’d need a long range gun in the truck at anytime to protect yourself, but I’ve been mistaken once. I’d keep your rattler 🤙🏽
I’d prefer a 5.56 AR because of its terminal ballistics in humans and its ability to penetrate body armor. In a civilian personal defensive context, I’m not going to be shooting through cover at a threat that “might” still be behind it.
Great video and topic. I would guess that your geographical location would also factor into what rifle you choose along with being in a heavy populated city or rural area. The bigger question is; are you just defending yourself/ family? Or, are you getting “involved” in an active shooter incident? By the way, what knife is that in the still shot?
Self-defense, home defense, or active shooter response will most likely be inside some structure. That would be best served by a suppressed subsonic round.
@slowmo7500 watch WC's gel test of their Maximum Expansion subsonic round. Over 18" penetration with one inch expansion diameter from their subsonic round. You get similar performance from Black Hills subsonic ammo, which uses Maker bullets. Don't let cheap ammo determine your beliefs.
It sometimes still surprises me that you're here in ATX, Tim. Because, Austin's answer to the question of "which gun" would likely be, "none". That said, you know we exist. And, considering the craziness that seems to happen in this town now, more than ever before, it does make sense to be ready. One thing that I feel wasn't covered thoroughly enough - handling. The ladies all prefer the MPX due to its very tame (really, nonexistent) recoil. Then, a suppressed .300BLK. The Flux 320 is still just too snappy, and not to mention, awkward to shoulder due to its size. The thing about a suppressed PDW, if used for self-defense, is that there's a strong argument against suppressed systems - just simply due to the scrutiny that is the NFA. Then, there's also the transportability of one, across state lines, even with reciprocity. That said, come into the house unwelcome is asking for it. No one is going to ask why you've chosen to defend yourself with a suppressed PDW (so long as it's legal). God bless Texas.
At least for me rural area farm land Nevada. .300BLK is it. Punch down power out to 200m. For something to get you through and or off the X. I feel it’s the best affordable option. Now maybe once the 6.8 comes down in price, gun and ammo, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I like Tim but is this a sig infomercial or a truck gun video ? You tube used to be a place where people went to get honest advise, reviews and real world experiences and now it’s nothing but a commercial.
We base our reviews on firearms we personally own and use. The SIG MCX and Flux Legion are newer additions, but our SIG MPX is over 10 years old and was one of the first PCC to prove itself. We've also featured firearms like the PSA 300 Blackout and FN SCAR. None of the guns on our channel are sponsored or given to us for review-- we simply share what we trust. That's also why we ask what others are using for their truck guns as we are curious. - Roy SDR Creative Director
So let me get this straight Tim Kennedy, you are going to pull over and run into an active shooter situation? As much as I respect and appreciate your service I think you are hyped up on sugar and trying to make content that seems sexier than it should be. If you pull over and grab a rifle and run into an active shooter situation you will more than likely be shot by cops. There is no situation where you are going to have access to a rifle if you are out in public, if you think you are going to be in a situation where you run outside to get a rifle then come back in you are still going to get shot by cops. None of the scenarios you play out in your head will ever happen. First malls, and most stores you can’t have a firearm, banks you can’t have a firearm, post office can’t have one, court house can’t have one, most restaurants can’t have one, movies can’t have one, concerts can’t have one and so many other places you can’t have a firearm so when you can have one all you will have is a pistol. I carry a 5.7 FN pistol stacked with hollow point and armor piercing because I know I won’t have a rifle so I will take my chances with a mini rifle round pistol. Content is great but can you make a video on single person cqb in a home because we had three people get in our home and I wasn’t prepared and luckily they left when I turned on all the lights.
truck gun realistically is dumb - the timing to deploy something like with how quickly shootings happen doesnt make sense and its something else that can get jacked from your car. better to just carry an extra mag or two for your EDC imo. But for the tacticool dudes w their 100k trucks - you do you dude
Yes and no. I live in the country & it wouldn’t be uncommon to use it more like a ranch rifle. Add in that on more than a few occasions civilians have grabbed rifles to do work outside their home, the Texas church shooter comes to mind. The civilian had time to go back in his house to get his AR, then flag down a vehicle to give chase. Had the civilian already been in a vehicle he would have only had a handgun had he listened to you. Not sure if you noticed but damn near all trucks now start at 60k base. 10yrs ago that was a max out dually. Seen more than a few trucks and SUVs hitting 85k that are basically factory, so adding many options and it hits 100 fast.
@@soonerfrac4611 good points I didn't think about more rural areas or those without closeby police forces. Yea I live in Texas and grateful my church has lot of guards that are fairly kitted up and can respond in seconds if needed

I have had a 6” 300blkout for the last two years in my vehicle and backpack that I built.
Got a shorty SCAR 16S in the truck. Me and mine will be fine.
Ty SD team.
55+ apt. complex and it's a soft target. House gun .45 hoping not to over penetrate ? EDC is 365xl so what to use at home ??
What do you think maximum effective range should be for a truck gun?
I been thinking about a Ruger LC Carbine 45acp with 185 gr +p loads. It uses Glock mags also.
I currently have Sig Rattler in 300 blackout and trying to decide whether to change to 8.6 blkaput or the new sig 6.9. What do you think?
Fine taste. ❤
I think you have the perfect truck gun. I wouldn’t think you’d need a long range gun in the truck at anytime to protect yourself, but I’ve been mistaken once. I’d keep your rattler 🤙🏽
Smith and Wesson FPC 👌
I get worried you’ll get shot immediately by the police if you pull out a rifle.
The other guy just saying yeah…. When he says that.
I like my SOCOM 16 for my truck gun.
I don't leave a gun in my vehicle anymore because of theft. If I did, I would probably go with a Maverick 88 because it's cheap in case it is stolen.
I’m gonna go against the grain here, don’t run into an active shooting in a mall with a rifle if you’re a civilian. That’s not going to end well
What do you think of 45 acp with a folding brace for a truck gun?
I see the ultimate vehicles.. 😉
Scar 16 with the 100rd mag seems suitable😂
Thoughts on Tavor X95 as truck gun?
Self-defense, home defense, or active shooter response will most likely be inside some structure. That would be best served by a suppressed subsonic round.
Subs are a waste. You’re voluntarily handicapping yourself. Go watch 300blk gel tests supers versus subsonic.
The Daniel Defense MK18 with a Law Tactical Folding Brace Can't Be Beat For a Truck Gun (My Opinion lol)
No high capacity 12 gauge? Oh I forgot… Sig and FN don’t have those to market 😅
Tim, you were a big proponent of the 5.7 for a while. With you showcasing that PSA 300blk, what’s your thoughts on the their upcoming X5.7 PDW?
Frankly… I love them all. Shot placement > Caliber
Ok, but what sunglasses is Tim wearing?
Pistol caliber, maybe in 10mm… but I’d rather have something that can penetrate deeper like .300 or 5.56,
Steyr AUG. Super durable.. From Glock land...Don't underestimate it.
Definitely a good gun and compact. I have a NATO stock and 1 standard stock. Definitely my preferred bullpup.
People may think “why have a truck gun?” and I think Aurora, CO
What about a Mini Cooper gun? Walter PPK? Got it 😂
1301 W/Chisel folding stock
I prefer my 590A1
Cmmg dissent 300 blackout for the active shooter era....
Nope, a simple ar-15 with some high-end 77gr ammo. One other thing is to practice lots of practice and know your rifle.
Why does tim's fj have a snorkel in texas?
Is that a private range? Been so sad since Best of the West closed down in Liberty Hill.
Look up Reveille Peak Ranch. It's in the Burnet area and it's where we host all our training courses.
@@SheepdogResponse thank you! 🙏
What's a truck gun? A gun inside a truck.
Pistol caliber…10mm💯
0:25 If there's not a bullpup on this list it's invalid lol.
Lol I love the comment and username
Narrowed down to cmmg banshee .45 or rattler .300
Rattler or spear in 300 bro 🤌🏽🤙🏽
At least for me rural area farm land Nevada. .300BLK is it. Punch down power out to 200m. For something to get you through and or off the X. I feel it’s the best affordable option. Now maybe once the 6.8 comes down in price, gun and ammo, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The real question is how do you guys afford all these guns 😮😢
Start with budget friendly options like PSA and slowly build up over time.
What is the length of the barrel on the sig mcx?
16inches. Its the MCX-SPEAR LT
So you’re saying I need 3 new truck guns, just in case.
.300 blk with a k can
Not gonna disagree.
45/70, Because you only need 1 bullet

Why bring a firearm with you when the firearm can bring you. Toyota with .50 cal in the bed lol
@@SheepdogResponse even better idea!
Truck gun? It's a gun that you put inside the truck.
The first problem is that one of you drives a bronco...
There's no Broncos...just the FJ Cruiser and Tacoma
Kennedy, know the material beforehand instead of studying the gun while you find the words to say, um um.
truck gun realistically is dumb - the timing to deploy something like with how quickly shootings happen doesnt make sense and its something else that can get jacked from your car. better to just carry an extra mag or two for your EDC imo.
