She also goes on to explain how she couldn't understand someone being upset over a pet dying until she got a cat. She does not have empathy (an anti-judgement trait). She could only have sympathy after experiencing having a cat.

the difference is if she is a fake pacifist nobody would know, anyone can call themselves an anything-ist. While an mma fighter is a real job that people can check that you actually do.
Pacifist are usually cowards AND weak. That's generally who they are. Women tend to be this way because they are not that good at it and are more inclined to find protection through the tribe. That's the way they are so anything remotely associated with it they avoid. That is why women should stay out of that world.
He is, the difference is the one is for real, the other only identifies as being for real while only pretending.
I think its more to do with the fact that he has done hard work his whole life. Not to say she hasn't but still to reach his level takes much more effort and you can see it in the way he speaks and what he has been doing. He just feels more real and aware I guess.

@@misanthrophex I would say that a large majority of martial artists are pacifist outside of the training required for it. Being a pacifist is a practicied lifestyle both mentally and physically. Most people can't claim they're pacifists because they lack any real control of their emotions. This woman isn't a pacifist, she's a bystandard.

I agree. I think she came into this with a preconceived notion, and nothing and no one was going to change her mind. I will give her credit, though, for seeming to really attempt to understand. I honestly just think it’s something a person like her never will understand. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Unless, heaven forbid, there’s ever a time where she would need to defend herself against someone meaning her harm. Then she might understand… But I pray that that day never comes for her.
That’s the same with any moral high ground types. Many of them are cunty, at least that’s what I’ve discovered anecdotally. Whether it’s vegans, far leftists and generally people who think think their ‘thing’ (whatever that may be) is the best etc.

She didn't really have a chance of changing his mind even if she had better arguments, but her arguments were extremely flawed anyway. She can't comprehend how someone can be so fascinated by fighting without ever considering throwing a punch in anger in their life. She can't separate her belief that to watch fighting, you have to be a bloodthirsty and violent person. She thinks that to fight or even watch you have to have this emotional attachment to violence and this simply isn't true. If anything, knowing more about fighting will make you realize how few problems you can solve with violence. She thinks that fighters and fans will be more violent because they're so involved in fighting, but if anything they will be more aware of the consequences of using violence outside of fighting and training, and will understand that violence is only going to make their lives worse unless they're using it to defend themselves. There's also the fact that allusions to animal fighting is flawed because they don't have a choice, and her desire to reduce injuries in fighting would require her to be even more against something like American football, or rugby, because the instances of lasting injuries or even death are considerably higher. In fact, Nathaniel messed his numbers when it comes to ufc fatalities, it's not that the ufc has considerably fewer fatalities than boxing and football, it has INFINITELY FEWER FATALITIES because the ufc has NEVER had a death inside the octagon, or even immediately after, the closest thing to a fatality would be someone dying from a weight cut, and i can't even think of an example for that.

I don’t think you can be a pacifist if you lack the ability to hurt somebody. There’s nothing good about being harmless, you’re not making any moral decision there. There is something to be said about being able to hurt someone but choosing not to though.

This woman is an utter sociopath. She had zero interest in viewing Nathaniel as anything but a mindless monster. Even after 25 minutes of him being the sweetest, most gracious little chap, she'd still narrow her eyes and condescendingly imply that there was no merit to his lifestyle. It was very telling that they discussed charity, and Nate had a laundry list of charitable contributions to his community and the world as a whole, while she was focused on being charitable to "her inner self". Weaponized ignorance and casual cruelty aren't pacifist traits.
What she's doing is psychologically referred to as "active projection" she's felt helpless in her life before and holds anger about it, likely violence or intimidation from physical harm and so she's projected this onto anybody who does something she considers violent.

I don't think I completely agree, because while I love combat sports, I've definitely been in the position where I questioned what it's really all about. There's really nothing inherently wrong with worrying about the fighters, and thinking there could be some issues, and in the end she did change her mind on combat sports. Just not quite on the fans, but considering people like Dana White exist, I'd say it's fair to be critical.

Wtf, she was very polite and willing to re-think her feelings about fighters. Both of them were endearingly self-deprecating and humble.
The point of this was to voice differing opinions and reach some understanding of each other, particularly her understanding Nathaniel.
This would be ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS if she wasn't willing to put into words how she subconsiously feels about it. It was very important for her to be polite yet adamant about the parts she CAN'T relate to, because these are thoughts and perspectives that are widely held in society.
She went out on a limb, knowing she might look stupid and didn't know what she was talking about, to allow for him to ANSWER many questions and thoughts held by similarly uneducated viewers.
That kind of willingness should be applauded even if you don't like someone as a person. It is productive toward the goal of greater understanding and less ignorance about the nature of MMA.
Look, most people feel the way she feels about MMA when they see it the first time.
Most people go through similar uncertainty, at least in the back of their minds.

Always be weary of someone who labels themselves as a pacifist, I don't think there's a single person in the world who wouldn't use violence in some form if they were under a legitimate violent threat against them. I'm pretty sure most people are "pacifist" in the sense that they're not seeking out violence just for fun, or malicious intent. If you feel the need to tell people you're a normal person, you're probably not a normal person.

As a semi-casual UFC fan I've actually never even heard of Nathaniel Wood. What an absolute wholesome soul this man is. Every answer he gave was respectful, every viewpoint was sound. This man is such a beautiful soul through and through. I cannot express my respect I just gained from a 20 min video, I wish this man nothing but the best and I will now follow his journey. Probably the most wholesome soul I have ever seen in a 20 min video. AND he is a Christian. Beautiful soul. I will watch his career with enthuasim and a newfound respect.
