      Somewhat although he was saying Dustin was throwin too many head strikes but that’s what you’ve gotta do when you are Dustin against Gaethje. Going to the body of Gaethje wouldn’t have made him “easy to knockout” like Vidal said. I think that’s just him not knowing the fighters though.

    Yea, that's what people had been saying about Nick Diazs boxing for years, and guess what? It worked very well for a long time in MMA.

    • @bryangan2224
      @bryangan2224 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nick Diaz DOES have pretty poor fundamentals, it's just that he knows it himself and makes it work by forcing a context where it does. He does those long whippy hooks but also combines them with shots down the middle to manipulate an opponent's guard. The more half assed punches also work because of the small gloves that can add a lot of pain to the body shots, so he's fine with sacrificing leverage just to reach around an elbow to hammer at the ribs. He also sacrifices torque to throw same-side combos really quickly, making the punches weak, but they do the job of filling the space while he loads up the same side for a harder blow, or attacks from the other side.
      It is not incorrect to say his boxing is not very good, but the way he takes those tools and carves out all those iconic wins is what truly makes him great. It is a disservice to simply describe him as a really good boxer, because his overall game is much more sophisticated than that, in its own ugly but effective way.

    • @bryangan2224
      @bryangan2224 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vertigo10yearsago25 who knows if he ever had the potential? The way Nick Diaz is, I'm not sure if any other style could have translated his own preferences and insecurities into anything effective. Also, the main obstacle to his style was his lack of wrestling defense, and his inability to cut off the cage against someone with good ring craft. His boxing attack in terms of punch form and shot selection was fine for what it tried to do, his deficiencies elsewhere were the real problem.

Even boxing in mma is so vastly different to boxing in mma, like obviously it's more complex in boxing because the sport is centred around pugilism. But the defensive requirements for mma pugilism is an interesting avenue to explore for boxers

      MMA fans generally have a little brother context. The truth is that most boxers and/or boxing fans don't hardly care about MMA, whereas 8/10 MMA fans cannot go 1 day without saying how a boxer would not survive in a grappling exchange (as if that was something very new and clever to say).
      MMA fans also tend to hate the fact that the way their sport is presented, promoted, and even the setup of the business owes a lot to pro wrestling. To say nothing of all the fans who crossed over to give it the financial life it now has.
