Fascinating! Thanks for sharing. We stayed in the Astra in Dec 2023 and are staying in Dec 2024. So interesting to see what Chang Klan road looked like.
I'm really proud of you both, having the courage and confidence in one another to allow yourselves to experience 'the worst of it' . I know that compared to many you were in a place that was comfortable and that kept you safe, but I love that you stayed and experienced this x
@@martinrue Do You think Normalcy will be restored in the start of November itself? I plan to come to Thailand in 1st week of Nov. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai have been on my list since ages and don't want to miss coming there. Any local insight will be helpful. Thanks and Take care.
only couple minutes in lol but yes was looking for something like this visiting end of November not sure how bad it is so appreciative to see this, y'all seem funny too lol
You have a great vlog about this by the end of the decision, even if it was quite risky. The most interesting part was about the charging of your phones 😅
I was in the other, original Astra and just stayed put in my condo) I’m on 13th floor and facing the Shangri-La Hotel). I had plenty of food and water so no sweat just staying (but the days of no electricity was a drag). Just yesterday after days with no hot coffee I walked down and waded over to the Shangri-La Hotel for a hot coffee and HUGE breakfast. (The Shangri-La hotel was amazingly -through planning- completely unaffected). (And yes - it’s weird being in an empty condo - not problem at all actually, it’s just the walking up 13 floors kicks my 72 year old butt hahaha). By the way - this was an exceptionally good and unique video. Thank you. 🙏
I saw the flood barriers they brought in at Shangri-La. Very impressive. Hopefully this is how Chiang Mai protects property going forward. Thanks for the lovely comment!
Good preparation. Freezing water was a great idea. Chiang Mai city is around 300M above sea level, flood won't linger for too long. Bangkok is about 3M, they will get flooded badly this year. I am afraid.
@@martinrue Check out the history on the massive 2011 flood. The Ping river is a tributary to the Chao Phraya so the water is going to flow down. If the rain for the next few weeks get spread out and is less than expected, Bangkok could be saved. Flood reached Don Muang airport and shut it down around Oct 25, 2011. Bangkok did not totally get rid of all the flood water until early January 2012. They made some improvements since then so it's hard to predict!
.At last a more interesting video. - Thanks for bringing the real adventure, how to survive, get batteries!!!!.. Get water and make ice cubes to keep the food fresh!!! Some people in the Chang mai mansions are getting desperate coz lack of electricity. The loneliness when all have gone. The heat and no aircond. I am a doctor 78 years and I still like to take part in emergencies. They are good for learning.
Impressive video. Thanks for letting us join you as you experienced this! I’m guessing there wasn’t enough time to get solar panels to charge batteries on the balcony? 😅
Thanks for sharing. I have a trip booked for the firat week of November and just saw all the news abput the flooding.... wondering how the current situation is like? Should I cancel, Im there only 3 days then Phuket 🫢
We're totally fine, thank you! 🙏 Glad there were no floods for you. We're heading back to BKK in a couple of weeks and praying there's not going to be a big flood there too.
End of October due you think it will be safe for a family of 4. We planned to go insect zoo, night bazaar, elephant/bamboo trek/waterfall tour, canopy walk. Really want to stick to the plan where possible and support chiang mai but with kids the priority is safety and health first.
Basically things are already recovering in the tourism business areas, but some will take more time due to the severity of the damage. I don't recommend doing waterfalls and river activities just now as water levels remain high and rain can still cause flash floods. But you will be made most welcome and if you use reputed tourism operators your safety is pretty well covered barring an unexpected disaster.
Hi guys. Can you please help me with some advice, I'm due fly upto chang mai tomorrow, staying in the old town. Should I cancel or still travel. What is the situation now ? 👍
Hi Martin. I’m flying to Chiang Mai tomorrow and was not aware of the floods until now. I haven’t booked accommodation yet so, is it safe for tourists right now? Any areas to avoid? Thanks in advance and I wish you well, guys.
Only half of the city affected by flood, lower part that near the river Ping. The other half was still intact. You can't find any photo of the constructions or houses within the old city wall among the flood water since this half is on the higher ground inclining to the foothill of Doi Suthep.
Out of respect for us locals please wait at least 1 more week we don't need disaster tourists. A lot of people have lost everything we need time to grieve & clean up. Thankyou
It is funny that someone asked for the condo's responsibility and compensation. Do you think they did this on purpose? think they were exempted from this flood damage?
If you ever again have a experience of flooding, simply do a water fast. You will get smart on your brain stronger than your body younger and it’s free.
Do you think Chiang Mai will be recovered by November 30th? That's our first day there as of now lol I know it's hard to tell as it's the worst they've ever had but any insight or thoughts would be appreciated. Love that ya'll made a community of crazy people that stayed lol It's giving White Lotus but with cabin fever haha
It's crazy to me how some people who date look related. You two, for example, look very much like brother and sister or, at the very least, cousins. No hate just an observation.
Here our water drainage is separate from our black water, unlike in the UK where both use the same drain so sewage is mixed into floodwater and gushes down your streets. Yes there might be some contamination and care is advised but our flood is not full of toilet water. There will be no cholera or other disease outbreaks and within days the worst will be over.
@@SomchaiSpeaks Interesting, but I wouldn't be out "strolling around for the hell of it" in flood waters, esp in a city ..you still have everything imaginable floating around ..
Now, I have been staying in CNX for over three months, the first time flooding was not that much worse, but the water level was three feet. However, the recent second time flooding, the locals said that it was the worst flooding in 50 years. After two days of lacking electricity and water, I left my apartment to find a hostel in the old town. The water level is over my chest to nearly my neck. I felt safe after I passed through and survived with my backpack and laptop bag. It's terrible coz I am just five feet and one inch tall MM girl.🥲
What a courage for tourists to stay in that situation. Well done and wish you happiness for both of you in Thailand, thanks.
