3 DAYS IN CHIANG MAI'S WORST FLOOD
We've been in Chiang Mai less than 1 month and we just got hit by a second flood! This one broke the record as Chiang Mai's worst. We decided to prepare, and stay in our building until things returned to normal. In this vlog we capture what our experience was like and how it all played out.

While living in Vietnam for the past 6 months I've also been learning Vietnamese. The grand plan was to learn enough to create a course for digital nomads to learn enough Vietnamese to make their experience in Vietnam 100x better. HANGING OUT IN 4K IN VALENCIA BARCELONA
The moment you touch the water, I scream "Leptospirosi!"
Hello, you guys! Is the situation back to normal there now?
Yep, everything is pretty much back to normal.
What a courage for tourists to stay in that situation. Well done and wish you happiness for both of you in Thailand, thanks.
Thank you! Locals had it much harder, but we were glad to see everyone recover and get back to normal so quickly!
unfortunately and sorry for you both this is 1 in 100 years ... unlucky trip
If you ever again have a experience of flooding, simply do a water fast. You will get smart on your brain stronger than your body younger and it’s free.
Did you guys book in advance
From what I saw on TV, I thought Thailand was a third world country. Is it safe compared to the West? Are there any things I should be aware of? Cheers !
It's very modern and safe!
This place should have water tangs and electricity for guests when faced with an emergency like this.
it's the worst as you said , since i birth and live here for 30 years it's a first time we've got the situation like this may be first in a 100 years
@@Ntp.tsw91135 I hope everything is better for you and your family now. 🙏
Was it the whole city flooded or certain areas? Great vdo!
Thanks! All of the south. North of the old city is too high to flood.
How are things now?
Much better now!
It's crazy to me how some people who date look related. You two, for example, look very much like brother and sister or, at the very least, cousins. No hate just an observation.
Thanks for sharing. I have a trip booked for the firat week of November and just saw all the news abput the flooding.... wondering how the current situation is like? Should I cancel, Im there only 3 days then Phuket 🫢
Everything is back to normal now and rainy season is all but over, you'll be fine!
remember us when you get famous
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice¡ but next time try Camping Stoves, that help a lots
They don't fit in our bags :)
You guys lived in the history. Not once has Chiang Mai ever be this heavily flooded in the record.
Yeah! Crazy. Just happy to see the city getting back to normal and cleaned up in the south now.
Great teamwork and both of you were there for each other. ❤🫰🏻
@@steven68 Thank you!
Myself and my family are due to fly to Chiang Mai in 10 days, is the weather settled and the floods drained?
Yes, all good now. Better to avoid the south due to much more cleaning required, and quite a lot of dust still.
Thank you. I'll stay north and central then. :-)
It is funny that someone asked for the condo's responsibility and compensation. Do you think they did this on purpose? think they were exempted from this flood damage?
Now, I have been staying in CNX for over three months, the first time flooding was not that much worse, but the water level was three feet. However, the recent second time flooding, the locals said that it was the worst flooding in 50 years. After two days of lacking electricity and water, I left my apartment to find a hostel in the old town. The water level is over my chest to nearly my neck. I felt safe after I passed through and survived with my backpack and laptop bag. It's terrible coz I am just five feet and one inch tall MM girl.🥲
Glad you got out and stayed safe!
OMG can’t wait to see the next episode

lol... that's one way to put it! 🤣
You guys are so brave!! Martin going through the flood in his bright white shoes hurt though hahaha
Once in memory. You guys are so brave.
Thanks! 🙏
Hi Martin. I’m flying to Chiang Mai tomorrow and was not aware of the floods until now. I haven’t booked accommodation yet so, is it safe for tourists right now? Any areas to avoid? Thanks in advance and I wish you well, guys.
It's mostly back to normal now. South still with water supply problems, but old city and north are fine.
@@martinrue thanks a lot!
น้ำท่วมหนักในรอบปี54 แต่พอมาปี67หนักกว่ามาก ขอบคุณคุณทั้ง2ครับที่ยังอยู่กับเรา
ขอบคุณครับ! ☺️
.At last a more interesting video. - Thanks for bringing the real adventure, how to survive, get batteries!!!!.. Get water and make ice cubes to keep the food fresh!!! Some people in the Chang mai mansions are getting desperate coz lack of electricity. The loneliness when all have gone. The heat and no aircond. I am a doctor 78 years and I still like to take part in emergencies. They are good for learning.
Exactly! Thanks for watching 🙏
What a compliment. So glad you enjoyed! 😍
Just the worst in 100 years not much.
I'm really proud of you both, having the courage and confidence in one another to allow yourselves to experience 'the worst of it' . I know that compared to many you were in a place that was comfortable and that kept you safe, but I love that you stayed and experienced this x
Thank you! 🙏 Exactly, there are worse places to be stuck, but was still a challenge and glad we stayed positive and waited it out x
You guys are great, love this video! The one on the right is Martin's is my guess, the one on the left looks better (Sorry Martin) x
Haha thanks! Yeah, so I comprehensively lost the salad contest x
Flooding in Chiang Mai in 10 years
It’s a monitor lizard - well be watching > heading over next month. Keep the information flowing 😉👍
Thanks! 😊
Hi guys. Can you please help me with some advice, I'm due fly upto chang mai tomorrow, staying in the old town. Should I cancel or still travel. What is the situation now ? 👍
You'll be totally fine in the old town! The moat mostly protects it from flooding.
The pool is really beautiful and very long.
Loving your Thailand video's, currently deciding between Chiang Mai and BKK! What building is this in BKK and are you using airbnb for your stays? Thanks 😀
Thank you! We use Airbnb to start with, and if we want to stay longer, arranging with the host directly is sometimes possible. The condo in BKK is Conner. For me it comes down to: do you mega cities and the chaos, loudness, size, excitement that comes with that? Or do you prefer chill, low-key, a place where people are closer together and it's a bit easier to meet other people / nomads. Chiang Mai has the price advantage over BKK too. Good luck with your decision!
@@martinrue Thank you for all that info! currently watching Elizabeths YT 🎉
Only half of the city affected by flood, lower part that near the river Ping. The other half was still intact. You can't find any photo of the constructions or houses within the old city wall among the flood water since this half is on the higher ground inclining to the foothill of Doi Suthep.
คุณสองคนเป็นคนกล้าหาญมาก สุดยอด👍👍👍👍👍⭐🇹🇭
ขอบคุณครับ! 🙏
you could get leptospirosis omg
Where were you staying?
The condo is Astra Sky River south of the old city.
@@martinrue I thought so. I looked at one in 2022 and I went up to the pool on the roof. Now that I know it floods I won’t buy there!
Awesome vdo, thanks for sharing.
Thank you 🙏
hope you guys are okay... was in Bangkok last week and now in Phuket... was feeling the rains but luckily no floods... stay safe
We're totally fine, thank you! 🙏 Glad there were no floods for you. We're heading back to BKK in a couple of weeks and praying there's not going to be a big flood there too.
Wow, you made it! 👏
Thanks!
Watching while waiting dor hurricane milton in florida lol. Yay natural disasters
Really hope you stay safe over there, and the landfall ends up being less than predicted. 🙏
Thanks for sharing your experiences, it was very courageous. Please stay safe and don't be a hero if things get much worse.
@@nosaedo9948 The good news is that things are very quickly getting back to normal now.
Good preparation. Freezing water was a great idea. Chiang Mai city is around 300M above sea level, flood won't linger for too long. Bangkok is about 3M, they will get flooded badly this year. I am afraid.
Oh no, I hope Bangkok doesn't get it too bad. We'll be back to Bangkok in a couple of weeks.
@@martinrue Check out the history on the massive 2011 flood. The Ping river is a tributary to the Chao Phraya so the water is going to flow down. If the rain for the next few weeks get spread out and is less than expected, Bangkok could be saved. Flood reached Don Muang airport and shut it down around Oct 25, 2011. Bangkok did not totally get rid of all the flood water until early January 2012. They made some improvements since then so it's hard to predict!
@@streetcar6080 I'll look into it! This time around in Chiang Mai the level actually surpassed the 2011 record level, so that doesn't bode well.
Floods worse than this happen weekly in pattaya. Wait a few hours, hose the floor and get on with life.
