Same for sonic the fighter it’s just a love letter to the fanboys how the fuck a sonic game with 8 chaos emeralds is canon?
Sonic is my all time favorite franchise/character (the close second is Megaman). First time I played Generations I was impressed by everything, but in one of the challenges, when the Balloon Park song started playing (Balloon Park was one of the 2player mode stages in Sonic 3) I busted into tears, I used to play that stage with my uncle that passed away, and the remix was so beautifully done that my emotions were exploding. This game (and Sonic in general) means a lot to me. Great video, and perfect game! :D so hyped for the movie next week
Less than a week until the Sonic Movie! Who is looking forward to that masterpiece? Edit: some people for some reason think I’m being serious about it being a masterpiece. It’s a joke.
Considering how the development of the movie was handled, and how they thought that that whole original design was going to go over well, they clearly have no idea of what the franchise is and what we expect from it. I see this as a attempted cash grab by people who have no idea what the fans of the franchise will do if they're threatened or mildly upset. Considering a studio shut down because of the redesign they're not getting that quick cash grab. While the new redesign might be one of my favorite designs ever for Sonic, as I love realistic designs of cartoon characters done right, I have very low hopes for this movie. This isn't going to be detective Pikachu I can say that much.
Sonics kinda like the Adam Sandler of video games, people just ride him off as bad, but when you look at him, there’s so much more, and even his bad stuff is still worth seeing for the novelty.
I adore this game! It's something amazing. I also love Super Sonic in this game, I just wish it didn't take all of your skill points. I worked hard to get those emeralds, I think I deserve to have that as an innate ability and still being able to mix and match skills.
This was the first game I ever completed. Mostly because I really wanted to unlock the all the songs (and my favorite songs were the last ones unlocked).
One of the things I loved the most about Sonic Generations was the possibility to choose your own soundtrack for each stage. For example, for the final boss, I chose Toxic Caves the first time. An odd combination, to say the least! XD
I'll admit that Sonic was iconic to me growing up. Even though I was born in the early 2000's, my first time playing Sonic was on the Gameboy and I loved it. My dad had this console when he was younger and he let me play it. I had a blast with it, although I never played through the whole game because I was an eight year that wasn't that good at video games. I know that the Sonic franchise has had quite a few bad games, but my experience with it has been pretty good! Then again, my second Sonic game was Sonic Colors on the Wii. I went nuts with that game and even played it with my best friend sometimes. Now that I'm on the internet, I found out that Sonic Colors is one of the better games. So I think I just never played any of the bad games. So yeah, this franchise has a close spot in my heart.
I'm glad to see someone apprecieating Generations for how good it really is. Nowadays all you see is either hate from people who have never played it, or hate from the god awful fandom that can't decide on the Worst Game of the Month or something.
Not just one of my favourites of the 2010 era but even to Inspire me to create my own stories loosely based on this and some Kingdom Hearts elements as well (very long story unless your me from either 2010 or 2004 going backwards where I'm from). Still wished they could've develop the story here to say the very least and anyone else still thought the Time Eater was the Shadow Blot from Epic Mickey as a kid or a teen?
Really love the way your videos are layed out. You can tell alot of thought and care goes into them. Sonic generations was awesome! Reliving Speed Highway (Arguably the best stage in Sonic Adventure) was a pure sugar rush! The level choices representing each game are all pretty solid too, although there are a few substitutions I'd have liked to had seen. Namely, Casino Night as opposed to Chemical Plant. Or possibly Casino Park instead of Seaside Hill. I think I'm just deadset on a casino themed stage...Anyway, I just wish the developers had added more stages as opposed to missions. Sonic Team seems to do this more and more. Even Sonic Forces had lots of missions, but only really seven or eight zones. Running through these fast paced worlds is exhilirating, just tends to end a little sooner than I'd like. It would be great to see a Sonic game where all you do is complete levels, no missions, just levels. Ya know, like maybe fifty of them! You could still have the completionist bonus with thing like S ranks or red stars...but it would feel like a much longer, more fullfilling package. That's just my opinion though. Point is, Sonic Generations did strike a terrific balance between the old and the new. I for one, hope to own all the Sonic games one day!
i just got introducet in this franchise with sonic mania and since i have a xboxone i can with backwards compatibillity get this game and sonic unleashed and maybe im going to pick up Sonic forces! Thanks dude!

The first line of the video, "Sonic is nearly as old as I am" applies to me too! In my adulthood, my interests have spread out from just video games, so I only get to finish maybe one full-length game per year (and leave even more unfinished), and Sonic Generations was one of them. In a way, it succeeds by playing it safe and being about old levels re-introduced in 3D rather than having new mechanics and modes. I haven't bought a Sonic game since (although I hear Mania is good!) but the minute another *good* 3D Sonic game comes out, I'd be up for it.
The game I've completed over 10 times in a single month (not including online stuff (time attack and 30sec) as I didn't have xbox live) when I was little purely because I liked the game so much when I was little. (When I got it on steam recently I got 46/49 achievements in 18 hours when that 18 hours also includes me messing around with mods such as the Unleashed Project)
Even though I was only 7-8 yrs old I still beat this game on the Xbox 360 and just watching the game I realize how well this game aged, and just how much nostalgia I feel towards this game
First off, loved the mid video ad. SANIC movie is right around the corner already isn't it? I really loved Generations, maybe I'll go back and actually complete it. I want to finish Spyro first.

diyagheith1 I feel you; I was 13 when it came out. Time really flies
I recently started playing through this one again, 10 years later it still looks beautiful!
Megaman Zero/ ZX Collection when it comes out this month please.
Boost Sonic actually debuted in Sonic Rush for the DS, but the boost gameplay we know today started with unleashed (Sonic Rush had a completely different homing attack and a trick system)

i said MAIN CANON sonic games
The game gear games are not canon
Sonic boom is not canon it is a spin-off franchise to the main sonic franchise (like mega man x & battle network to the main mega man franchise)
Sonic r & the fighter are not canon they are spin-off games
Sonic pocket adventure is not canon is just a demake of sonic 2 with elements of sonic 3 and adventure for the neo geo pocket color
Sonic 3d blasd is not canon it just a filler game that made because the delay of sonic x-tream
Sonic battle is canon taking place before advence 3 but it’s not a main game
chronicles is unknown right now if it canon or not it’s a spin-off but the story can connect to sonic forces
The Riders games and team sonic racing are canon but they are spin-off titles (also jirard completed TSR already)
Sonic unleashed ps2 & wii are canon because they have the same story of the hd version but we don’t need a Completionist episode because he completed the hd version
The ds version of colors is unknown if it canon because technically it’s the first time blaze & silver meet after the events of 2006 erased from the timeline, maybe its a extended version of the story of colors
the 3ds versions of generation & lost world are not canon different story to the console/pc version
Yet Another Let's Player
dude the storybook games are canon because generation! Sonic mention the events of the secret ring in the game, they are platformers so its a main game
Chaotix canon because the chaotix debut.
Rivals is canon because of silver! The events of 06 erased in the end of the game so this technically the first time sonic meet silver. Also it’s a 2.5d platformer like rush so it’s a main game.
Mania treats all the classic sonic games it’s dose not make the game gear games canon it’s just a love letter to the sonic fans.
One of the games of the decade, imo.
I love this game. It was my first ever PC game and most played on Steam to this day.
Less than a week until the Sonic Movie! Who is looking forward to that masterpiece?
Edit: some people for some reason think I’m being serious about it being a masterpiece. It’s a joke.
Ryan Fanstone dude have you ever heard of something called sarcasm?
Ryan Fanstone I thought it was pretty obvious but it doesn’t matter much 🤷♂️
Sonics kinda like the Adam Sandler of video games, people just ride him off as bad, but when you look at him, there’s so much more, and even his bad stuff is still worth seeing for the novelty.
Based
I love Sonic Generations for one reason:
Mods
Hell yeah
The mods in this game were too good
Unleashed Project
If you didn't know, you can get classic sonic to homing attack in generations by getting the red rings In a certain stage or something
I adore this game! It's something amazing.
I also love Super Sonic in this game, I just wish it didn't take all of your skill points. I worked hard to get those emeralds, I think I deserve to have that as an innate ability and still being able to mix and match skills.
Yeah, but sonic would basically be Really op, but i still can agree with you. :)
@@kenwalkensdeadchannelcanal2886
He would, but I think at that point it's well deserved. Super Sonic in the classic games is also incredibly OP.
If there's one thing that Sonic always gets right, it's the music
That intro killed me.
I'm dying because of you, Jirard.
I can't.

....bitch
This was the first game I ever completed. Mostly because I really wanted to unlock the all the songs (and my favorite songs were the last ones unlocked).
18:35 Knuckles only guard the Master Emerald, not the Chaos Emeralds.
Born on an island in the heavens ~
One of the things I loved the most about Sonic Generations was the possibility to choose your own soundtrack for each stage. For example, for the final boss, I chose Toxic Caves the first time. An odd combination, to say the least! XD
I mixed Modern Crisis City with A New Venture (Sonic Rush Adventure's main theme)
Sonic n' Tails and the legend of Dr eggman's mean bean machine
This is the one game I've actually managed to completel 100% all the way through like the Completionist. And had fun the whole time.
Aaahhh, the nostalgia.
Generations really brought modern Sonic back on the map, and is 100% the best boost game in my opinion.
NOT EVEN TWO MINUTES IN AND I HAD TO PAUSE
LOVE YOU, CLASSIC JIRARD, NEVER CHANGE
"Sonic extended universe" is a term I never thought I would hear.
I guess we need to add that to the dictionary.
When you're used to the PC version in all of its high res and 60fps glory, it's really weird seeing the PS3 version of the game! =P
I know, so weird.
Same thing here.
I'm playing Sonic Generations at 1440p60, with SMAA, ambient occlusion, and mods to make the game even better.
It's just my favorite Sonic game of all time. Your video is a worthy tribute of this amazing game !!
17:38 Lol. He said "invisible"

"Recently"
That was 3 years ago bud
Yet it is still the best Sonic game I’ve ever played. It still ages well 😍😍
I'm glad to see someone apprecieating Generations for how good it really is. Nowadays all you see is either hate from people who have never played it, or hate from the god awful fandom that can't decide on the Worst Game of the Month or something.
Ha, finally a game I completed before you made a video on it 🙂
Dimitriy Dzyuba that deserves to be an official ps4 achievement
My first Sonic game and my personal favorite game.
I see completionist, I click.
*a tear rolls down my face* I still can't get that last achievement/trophy...
"there's no treasure hunting in this game, no on rail mech battles"
As soon as he said that I rolled my eyes
I think he meant in the main levels
@@BitchChill and i still roll my eyes
18:03 “takes sonic underground” this truly is a complete tribute of Sonics history
I got a Sonic movie ad before this video, hey I wanted to watch a Sonic video not a Sonic video
I’m glad you brought up the Sonic Advance games. They’re under appreciated.
Who got a Sonic movie ad before watching this
Ya boi
Yeah
Not me...
Me
i just got introducet in this franchise with sonic mania and since i have a xboxone i can with backwards compatibillity get this game and sonic unleashed and maybe im going to pick up Sonic forces!
Thanks dude!
Just casually Decided to check my Subscriptions and saw This 2 minutes ago, and well... I clicked faster than I've done this year.
Gotta click fast
Loved the game even more than mania! (And if you preordered the game, you get a sonic spin ball area.)
In PC release it's now free for everyone.
@@shooter5769 Cool!
When will you do some more Mega Man Battle Network Games?
You're a fan of the Battle Network series too?
@@Rex13013 heck yeah I am
@@MercilessRalph231 Awesome! It's always rare to see and find fans of the BN series for some reason, BN it's my favorite Megaman series tbh it always has been.
That review was awesome! This game was my most hyped up game back in my year of high school graduation. Even though I had to wait until Christmas to get it with an Xbox 360, it was totally worth the wait.
On a side note, this makes me want to see a review of Freedom Planet someday. I think you'll enjoy that one too.
9:16 "It hasn't been easy to put Sonic in 3D"
Don't even start with that shit! The Sonic Adventure games may have flaws like the localization, The lip syncing, but that doesn't mean they are bad games they are great games Adventure 2 is my favorite Sonic game. So don't start with that Sonic had a rough time in 3D bullshit
If they were refined then the Adventure games would be amazing, unfortunately the controllers are a bit wonky
@@ThisisKyle The controls are not wonky, If they were harder to turn like in the modern games then running around in a full 3D environment with snappy and responsive movements wouldn't work, especially Sonic Adventure 1
@@ThisisKyle honestly if there is another Sonic Adventure styled game, Make supersonic work in regular levels by not just making him an invincible yellow sonic
@@connorplays6263 I'm sorry but the controllers are a bit wonky, if they were refined a little then they would be amazing
@@ThisisKyle are you talking about the actual controllers or how the game controls? Because I've never had any issues with the controls.
I haven't bought a Sonic game since (although I hear Mania is good!) but the minute another *good* 3D Sonic game comes out, I'd be up for it.
been playing it for years and seen plenty of reviews but this was the first I heard about a secret room, thanks man!
I like how the music in the background keeps changing from Act 1 to Act 2!
Even though I was only 7-8 yrs old I still beat this game on the Xbox 360 and just watching the game I realize how well this game aged, and just how much nostalgia I feel towards this game
I’m 11 and I just beat this game. I’m so happy
Jirard said "...and takes Sonic underground" and the Sonic Underground theme flashed in my head
First off, loved the mid video ad. SANIC movie is right around the corner already isn't it? I really loved Generations, maybe I'll go back and actually complete it. I want to finish Spyro first.
Love your videos, Jirard and the Completionist Team. Thank you for all of the entertainment you’ve given us
THANK YOU! I'm so tired of people disregarding this game because it's a tribute or some other nonsense. There is finaly a good review that gives this game justice. :)
Sonic was always there when I was sad sonic was always with me through out my entire life
My favorite stage in sonic generations was the shadow fight
Its interesting to see how sonic has come into people lifes during so many different points in his games and since sonic games are very different in both content and quality its created one of the most diverse manic and deprived fandoms ever my first game was sonic adventure 2 on the gamecube I see a lot of people whose first game was either that, the originals, generations, unleased or even colors (seems like those games are the ones that left fans with a good experience as their first game)
I legitimately bought this title because of this video! And I'll definitely be completing it! Thanks Jirard!
I love sonic so much and this game just reminds me that sonic can still be amazing no matter what game came before it
I’m glad you’re finally playing this in celebration of the Sonic Movie
You could give this game any better justice. As much as it is a universally praised game, no other video sums up the game batter than this
Fact that games like this one and Mania, show what Sega can do when they bring their S game tom the table, is fantastic. Hell even the community is still cooking up fan levels for this very game on the PC release. Making me wonder why i fell in love with the little blue dude all over again.
I still remember the Dreamcast era segments and being so nostalgic for playing what I grew up with, and I still think Perfect Chaos' boss fight is the best fight in the game.
Good Timing because the Sonic movie comes out in 6 days and so far on Twitter its positive
