This song is now in the Congressional Library, it can not be done by any other artist. This song is for the 9/11 and will always remain the way is was sung and written by Alan Jackson
Never forget. I stayed home from school that day and watched live coverage of those planes flying into the world trade center. I saw what I thought was debris falling but it was actually humans jumping to there deaths.
My son was also born that year in April, I stayed glued to the TV and held him for 11 hours straight I refused to let him go..and I'm still crying as I share this...this is something I'll never get over
In my humble opinion, this is one of the most powerful and beautifully written songs of all time!! This song was performed first less then 2 months after 9/11. In the midst of all that was going on to have the ability to articulate all those different perspectives and focus on the better parts of humanity rather the atrocities and revenge. Simply beautiful and still gives me goosebumps.
Those kind of stories amaze me. It reminds me of Neil Young and the song "Ohio". He was hanging out with David Crosby and they were watching news coverage of the Kent State shootings. It effected him so much that he disappeared into the woods with his guitar. An hour later he returned, song in hand.
We saw him sing this a few years ago at the San Antonio Rodeo. He still gets choked up. He couldn't finish it. When everyone in the arena started singing, the band stopped and they watched as we all sang it for him. One of the most emotional concerts I've ever been to.
The weeks following that day we all stood together as americans regardless of color, race, religion, political affiliation and so on..... Americans need to love and care for each other like that at all times. Great song and great reaction

This is one of the greatest songs ever written...especially if you were old enough to remember when it happened. I remember exactly where I was that morning...
It was the first time I saw my mom cry. I was only in kindergarten and didn’t understand the magnitude of the situation but I knew it had to be bad if my mom was crying as much as she was. I remember she came into my room that morning and laid with me and cried. She just held me and told me she loved me. I remember asking what was wrong and she just said there’s some bad people doing some bad things right now. We got up and went to my church and put care packages together. I remember just standing and watching all the adults bow their heads and pray. My mom says she still cries thinking about it. I get emotional too. It was a horrific day that shouldn’t be apart of our history but it sadly is.
I remember where I was; I was 12 years old. My dad was active duty navy and he and I were on the USS Constellation for the Tiger Cruise. Weeklong trip with servicemembers and their dependents and spouses to see what life on the ship is like. About halfway thru the trip it happened and I got word of it happening as I was eating breakfast. When I saw what was happening on a tv in a rec room it hit me how big what had happened. Then I left and ran to my dads office to wait and see what was gonna happen. The higher ups sped up the speed of the ship and we got to our destination a day early. And I remember my mom was scared not because she was worried about it my safety, but about my future safety concerns what the ship was gonna do with the civilians.
Goes to show that God knew Alan Jackson has a voice of an Angel and can send a message that reaches all hearts. Regardless of your opinion of country music Alan always touches peoples hearts.
I remember exactly where I was when the world stopped turning. I was at work and one of our regular customers came in and told us to turn the tv on. It just didn’t seem real. What a very sad day for our great country, something that should never happened. God bless all that lost their lives that day and their loved ones that sadly had to go on without them.
A friend of mine was a firefighter and he worked the rubble for weeks. He was medically retired two years later. Prayers for the brave people who ran in.
He always comes at a song with love and an unexpected gentleness. He doesn’t have to give in to bitterness or anger to make you feel a song. It’s with a deep humility and all heart.
When people say how divided we're as a country, all I can say is to this day every American knows where they were and how they felt when our country was attacked on 9/11. That’s not division that’s common ground and love.
I had just walked into a doctor's office and saw everyone around the TV set. When we first looked we thought that can't be really happing it was something someone made for a disaster movie but the people around said no it's really happing. What a tragedy. So many people died and it brought our country together and police, firemen and paramedics from all around came together and ran into the rubble and destruction to help people with no thought of the danger to their own lives. Prayers for the people who died and their families and thank you and you are real heroes to the public servants who put their lives on the line that day.
I still remember that morning like it was yesterday. The feeling of anger and shock was beyond belief. Then the way we came together as a nation was amazing.
I'm not American and certainly I wasn't there when it happened and I was only 4 years old at that time. But I love this song and I love the message and I love what it meant for everyone.
That day has never been forgotten for me as most of us. I was watching a cable news show that morning and it was live, saw the first plane hit. I was on the phone with my late mother in law. She turned it to the channel to see the accident I was talking about. Thats when 2nd plane hit. When that happened I knew the first one wasn't a accident. It rocked this country in such a hard way. It tore my heart and stomach to pieces. Was devastating to us all. How can we be so divided now..when we was completely united then.
Because people have forgotten about that day. That’s how we got divided up the government is making us divided. Something like 9/11 will bring us back to together again.
I was in the Army stationed in Germany I had just got off of CQ when a specialist from the commanders office started banging on my door in the barracks She was panicking and saying that we had been attacked and I was to report to formation I thought she was overreacting but when I went to the formation I learned what had happened in New York The events of that day and the months that followed will be forever in my memories
Alan Jackson doesn’t have a bad song. Drive, Gone Country, Midnight in Montgomery, Between the Devil and Me, and for fun lighthearted ones, Chattahoochee and I Don’t Even Know Your Name. 💙
This song makes me cry EVERY SINGLE TIME... I was only 2 when this happened but it shows you how in the worst times we forget about all of the division and appreciate what you have.
Edit: sorry, I know this is long winded 😓it just amazes me what someone can remember when they're kids I was 7 when it happened. I remember being in my 2nd grade classroom and the teacher rushing out. They told us that our parents were coming to get us and we were going home for the day. Normally kids are excited to hear that but I remember the classroom being deathly quiet, funny how kids know when something is wrong even if they dont know why. I remember seeing the towers smoking on our tv at home. My dad was overseas at the time. We couldn't get in touch with him and I remember my mom breaking down into tears when she was finally able to get him on the phone. I didnt really understand any of this at the time but it was so impactful I still remember where I was when it happened
I remember that day. My dad was TDY at the time, I was 4. We were living in base housing, which was being locked down with tanks and everything. My mom was crying, then she got a call from my dad and she settled. It wasn’t until I was 10 that I learned my dad was suppose to be in the Pentagon Plane and he was late due to traffic.
That is my favorite song! He wrote and made that song in a day! That was for 9/11. It truly got my heart. I cried! I saw it on television. I also had to go to class at the college. We stood around the flag and said Pledge of Allegiance. Every word meant so much! I cried like a baby!
This was the first song about 9/11 sung at the Country Music Awards (I think) after that terrible day. Everything about this song is exactly what we were feeling at that time. I will never forget.
This song always makes me cry. My dad was serving in the military at this time and we were stationed in NY...not to far from New York City. I was really young but I haven't forgotten the day this happened. I was only in kindergarten and I remember my teacher left the class room and I saw her crying outside the door ( I remember her saying that she had family in the area)...they announced everything over the intercom and told us not to panic.. They ended up sending us home from school. My dad was really horrified as he lost friends....he was scared it would happened again so we moved on October 1st..less than a month after... and got stationed in Tennessee. Such a beautiful song. Great reaction fam. God bless you guys.
I remember where I was, what I was doing, and that I called my mom immediately. Two months later this was on the CMA awards and he said that he could not sleep one night, he woke up and went downstairs and wrote this song. It will always hold a special place in my heart!
First off, I want to say thank you for doing a reaction to this video. I wanted to share with both of you the The history behind how he wrote this song. It’s very emotional and very special. Alan Jackson is a wonderful songwriter. Here’s what I found: The song is based on Jackson’s own experience on September 11, 2001. Jackson had finished walking outside and returned indoors to discover news of the attacks on television. He immediately wanted to write a song expressing his thoughts and emotions, but he found it hard to do so for many weeks. "I didn't want to write a patriotic song," Jackson said. "And I didn't want it to be vengeful, either. But I didn't want to forget about how I felt and how I knew other people felt that day."[2] Finally, on the Sunday morning of October 28, 2001, he awoken at 4 a.m. with the melody, opening lines, and chorus going through his mind. He hastily got out of bed, still in his underwear, and sang them into a hand-held digital recorder so as to remember them later on.[2][3][4] Later that morning, when his wife and children had gone to Sunday school, he sat down in his study and completed the lyrics.[2][5] Initially, he felt squeamish about recording it, much less releasing it as a single, because he disliked the idea of capitalizing on a tragedy.[6] But after he played it for his wife Denise and for his producer, Keith Stegall, both of whom gave their approval, Jackson went into the studio to record "Where Were You" that week.[7] On Stegall's advice, Jackson played the finished track for a group of executives at his record label. "We just kind of looked at one another," RCA Label Group chairman Joe Galante said later. "Nobody spoke for a full minute."[4]
Pretty sure he performed this live for the first time on the CMA's (Country Music Association award show). This would have been about 2 months after that horrible event. This song remains one if the most touching songs I've ever heard.
There is a silver lining that day. I have NEVER BEEN MORE PROUD OF THIS COUNTRY ! In the fashion of the national tesponse after pearl harbor. This country had never been more united. That is sorely needed today. Lets home it doesnt take devistation to get it.
Thank you for digging more into Alan!! You guys need to hear his songs “Good Times”, Drive” , Sissy’ song. The last one he wrote for someone that passed that was very close to their family
You guys are amazing! I wish the world could go back to the day After this happened, 9/12/2001. That was when All Americans loved each other and we stood united as a country.
I remember it all...i had toured the towers a few years before the day they fell...made my care for those inside even more acute...still crying like crazy over it...this song is beautiful and needed right now more than ever. Wake up people out there. Love love love is needed
The 1st time he ever performed this song, and first time anyone heard the song, was at the award show that the video is from. It did not take him long to write this song.
I have discovered yalls channel through these Alan Jackson reactions!!! Alan Jackson is definitely one of my all time favorites and this reaction in particular touches many of us because we all remember what we were doing when we found out about the twin towers. Back then I was in the 6th grade. On this 11th day of August in the year 202, I'm 31 years old.
My Mom called me to tell me also, I remember clear as day said turn on the tv !! She didn't even have to say turn on the news because it was on every channel, I sat there watching, I couldn't believe what I was watching I felt frozen all I could do was cry after I came out of shock !!! I didn't want to go to work but I had to, it was so hard because I worked with Children so I couldn't look or act sad around them. That was one of the hardest days of my life but what I felt so much sadness love and empathy for all the people that were in anyway a part of the devastation of that day. I can't believe its been 20 years sense it happened, please lets all keep them in our thoughts and prayers... God Bless 💗💗💗
You really can’t go wrong with any Alan Jackson song. He is one of the GOATs of country music. I will give you a few of my favorites though: Tonight I Climbed the Wall Drive Wanted 5 O’Clock Somewhere Murder on Music Row (duet w/George Strait another 🐐) Midnight in Montgomery (song about Hank Williams Sr. who died in his late 20s and is the father of Hank Williams Jr. that sings Country Boy Can Survive).
He was in Des Moines, 9-11-21 he is absolutely amazing!! Country music....it will make you cry, laugh, and make you want to kick someone's ass all in the matter of 5 minutes. Love it!
I absolutely love this song, it makes me tear up just thinking about all of the innocent people & children that died in that attack. I remember exactly where I was & how it made me feel. My daughter was born in May of that same year in Florida, my ex's mother told me to check out the news. When I saw right after the first plane hit I automatically started crying & praying for everyone in the twin towers and their families. Then I picked up my daughter and held her close and cried, every time I hear this song I bow my head in respect for the ones that didn't make it as well as everyone involved.
I remember the night he performed this for the first time on the award show. I was anxious to hear his thoughts, was expecting a rally/revenge song. Went to bed ashamed of myself and in tears.
I'll Go On Loving You, Little Bitty, Chatahoochee..a few to try. Glad to see y'all enjoying so many different genres, and doing so together. Stay blessed.
I was on morning break building a factory in Beaver Dam Kentucky, out in the sticks. Heard about the first plane on the radio while I was getting out of the truck, honestly didn’t think much of it until I got home and saw the news...
I always feel like I can't listen to this with out listening to Toby Keith's, "Brought To You Courtesy of The Red White and Blue" , after. Oh.. and, I watched it happen live through the window of the ABC studio.
This song is important for those that remember that day because it not only reminds us of a historically significant day in a very personal connection but also imparts a lesson on why that day is so important to teach younger generations about the whys and wherefores of what happened and the results. I was getting ready for work (at an elementary school in AZ) when the news footage began. I had a father flying that day and was terrified he was on one of those planes. I also had an uncle working for a trucking company in CT that was making a delivery in NYC that day. My father was fortunate enough to not have been on one of the planes and my uncle actually saw the planes hit and the buildings fall all from his rear view mirror.
This song is powerful, and this song still makes me cry. I will remember that day and where I was. The feelings I felt and as much as I oppose what happened on 1/6/21 find it insulting comparing it to that day. A slap in the face to those that experienced & survived what happened on 9/11/01.
I listen to this song often and it always takes me back to the day (I'm British btw) and the emotional reaction resonates with me and the reaction described, I can't even imagine how it must have felt as an American with that happening in your country, it still surprise's me when I talk to someone who doesn't realize or is even aware of the importance of this event, I can't even imagine anything more shocking and tragic that resonated around the globe, it still almost feels like it just happened, not 22years ago almost
Yes, it is powerful, too! I love that for years, when he sings it in concert; they have shown that big, beautiful flag behind him. Usually, he turns to look at it in respect, I think. He has said he didn't think he would be performing it for very long. Twenty years later, he still is! Fans love and expect to hear it. Now, most of the audience stands, cell phone flashlights swaying! He wasn't going to sing it because he didn't want to be taking advantage of the circumstances. Fortunately, his wife and others convinced him it needed to be heard! It was like someone put a huge Band Aid over our hurts!
He had to be convinced to to record this song by his friends. He didn't want to gain anything from this tragedy, his friends said it was the opposite , you are paying homage to these people. Thats the kind of human being this man is, he still had reservations about recording it, but realized his family and friends were right when he saw everyone's response. Much respect to Mr. Jackson and to you good folks . Love your reaction and sincerity, you folks are top shelf. The world needs more like you. May the good lord bless you many times....
I still remember where I was for 9/11, I was in the 8th grade just finishing up gym class, getting ready to head to math when the first tower got hit, by the time the second tower got hit, they made the announcement that we were all going home. My siblings and I were all in different schools that year, grade wise (10,8,5), and it was definitely a difficult time for everyone. But Alan Jackson was one of those artists that I had listened to my entire childhood, even going into my adult years, and this is, in my opinion, one of the most inspiring that he has in his career. But you can't really go wrong with any of his songs at all. They all have a good beat/tune to them, and his voice is incredible.
Another fantastic Alan Jackson song and he wrote this song in like 15 minutes! I love him!! Livin’ on love is a great song of his if you haven’t done that one yet
I've listened to country music all of my life. I'm from the south, north Georgia. I would hear from people, that they didn't like country music. I can honestly say, there was alot more people back then who did like country music. Today, I 'am glad to see more people are checking country music out. There is alot of new songs that are really good. Country music fans love the songs of the past. They also like the songs of today. Once you've been raised on country music, it never leaves your heart. I hope many more people will enjoy the country music band wagon in the future.
I’ll never forget every moment of that day and what it felt like. I’m less than half an hour from where the plane went down in shanksville PA. An emotional roller coaster that day.
I saw Alan Jackson in concert in August of 2006 I believe. When he sang this song the thousands of us there were dead quiet listening, remembering. It was such a moment. I highly recommend Itty Bitty

Alan has so many great songs, serious and funny! He has a great voice that is so easy to listen to.
This song is powerful. He has more upbeat songs. Can't wait for chatchattachoocie
Not to mention maybe one of the clearest, warmest, most resonate male voices in the history of country music
Remember how UNITED we were?!!! 🇺🇸❤️
Alan Jackson's song sissy's song is so underrated and so beautiful.
It’s such a powerful song. I love how it talks about faith, hope, and love in the context of an event of pure hate.
Alan Jackson is one of the last of the great country music legends left . Without God we are nothings...
First off, I want to say thank you for doing a reaction to this video. I wanted to share with both of you the The history behind how he wrote this song. It’s very emotional and very special. Alan Jackson is a wonderful songwriter.
Here’s what I found:
The song is based on Jackson’s own experience on September 11, 2001. But I didn't want to forget about how I felt and how I knew other people felt that day."[2]
Finally, on the Sunday morning of October 28, 2001, he awoken at 4 a.m. with the melody, opening lines, and chorus going through his mind. He hastily got out of bed, still in his underwear, and sang them into a hand-held digital recorder so as to remember them later on.[2][3][4] Later that morning, when his wife and children had gone to Sunday school, he sat down in his study and completed the lyrics.[2][5]
Initially, he felt squeamish about recording it, much less releasing it as a single, because he disliked the idea of capitalizing on a tragedy.[6] But after he played it for his wife Denise and for his producer, Keith Stegall, both of whom gave their approval, Jackson went into the studio to record "Where Were You" that week.[7] On Stegall's advice, Jackson played the finished track for a group of executives at his record label. "We just kind of looked at one another," RCA Label Group chairman Joe Galante said later. "Nobody spoke for a full minute."[4]
All the money made from the song went to charity
Alan Jackson is the 🐐
Pretty sure he performed this live for the first time on the CMA's (Country Music Association award show). This would have been about 2 months after that horrible event. This song remains one if the most touching songs I've ever heard.
I remember watching that live. Not dry eye in the building
The crushing silence before the eruption of applause....
I was so emotional... And I'm Canadian 🇨🇦
Y'all are killing me with these emotional reactions. Love me some AJ. Can't believe its been 20 years since that day. Never forget.
Drive and Five O'clock Somewhere are two of my favorite songs of his. Great reaction!! 🙂
I will give you a few of my favorites though:
Tonight I Climbed the Wall
Drive
Wanted
5 O’Clock Somewhere
Murder on Music Row (duet w/George Strait another 🐐)
Midnight in Montgomery (song about Hank Williams Sr. who died in his late 20s and is the father of Hank Williams Jr. that sings Country Boy Can Survive).
He was in Des Moines, 9-11-21 he is absolutely amazing!! Country music....it will make you cry, laugh, and make you want to kick someone's ass all in the matter of 5 minutes. Love it!
“Drive”and “little bitty” are good songs too, and a little less emotional haha
Haha?
I cry every time I sing along with DRIVE
Oh dear lord….itty bitty got on my nerves the first time I heard it lol
Theyve done drive now and she got VERY emotional. Funny, music speaks differently to everybody based on their own experiences
You Will Remember This Day!
Everything Alan Jackson does is number one! I seen him in concert when he was just starting out in the '80s. I knew he was going to be a big star
I remember the night he performed this for the first time on the award show. I was anxious to hear his thoughts, was expecting a rally/revenge song. Went to bed ashamed of myself and in tears.
I remember hugging my 6 yr old when this happened. That same boy is now out there fighting for his country and countrymen. ❤️USA Pride 🇺🇸
I'll Go On Loving You, Little Bitty, Chatahoochee..a few to try. Glad to see y'all enjoying so many different genres, and doing so together. Stay blessed.
This is te Grammy performance. Everyone was in tears.
Great song, I remember when this came out and haven't heard it in a while but it hits just as hard now. Great reaction y'all.
I remember when he first performed it live, i believe it was at an award ceremony. The whole room was stunned silent when he finished
“I’ll go on loving you” and “Little bitty” are both good by Alan, but he has many!
I just saw him about six months ago for the first time. Love, love, love him!!!!
I was on morning break building a factory in Beaver Dam Kentucky, out in the sticks. Heard about the first plane on the radio while I was getting out of the truck, honestly didn’t think much of it until I got home and saw the news...
I absolutely love Alan Jackson the older he gets.
I’m normally not into country music nut Alan Jackson is different. He’s one of my favorite musicians of any genre.
Alan Jackson- little bitty and his new one bringing country back. Great job, stay safe and be blessed!!
The wife and I love to 420 and watch Half and Jai reaction videos!
I remember this performance. He put into song what we still couldn't put into words.
This song is powerful, and this song still makes me cry. I will remember that day and where I was. The feelings I felt and as much as I oppose what happened on 1/6/21 find it insulting comparing it to that day. A slap in the face to those that experienced & survived what happened on 9/11/01.
AMEN AMEN AMEN!!! It's just more of their own agenda, the press preaching garbage to make the weak see what's not there and fall in line. That's all.
"I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack needs a reaction from you guys. Appreciate you two!
A mix all of those feelings, at once. I vividly remember exactly what I doing that morning!!!
The video for this song is amazing. Jai would have been crying again.
Alan Jackson is one of the few chosen that can tear your heart out with a song. But he has upbeat songs as well
For my military people "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue" Toby Keith🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
YES!! Love this one too!!!🇺🇸💪
This is a great example of most country music. It is another form of the blues. It comes from the heart. My God bless and keep them all.
I remember after the first plane everyone thought it was just an accident but after the second plane hit we all knew it was an attack.
I had something to say after 9-11 but didn't have the words, Alan Jackson said it for me. After almost 20 years this song can still bring a tear.
Try a more upbeat tune from Jackson, "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere."
This was the 3rd worst day of my life. This country came together like it should be. Now look at the shape we are in now. Wake up people
Alan Jackson can write a song that will touch your heart for sure!!!
You will love this song “I’ll go on loving you “ and he sang the video yummy you’re so wonderful tonight too
That was the last time America was truly United. We forget so easy our past.
Another fantastic Alan Jackson song and he wrote this song in like 15 minutes! I love him!! Livin’ on love is a great song of his if you haven’t done that one yet
I love that with all the feelings going on, he focuses on faith, hope and Love. 💖
I definitely remember that day, where I was. What I was doing, and crying watching the t.v. I'll never forget it. Loved your reaction.
I saw Alan Jackson in concert in August of 2006 I believe. When he sang this song the thousands of us there were dead quiet listening, remembering. It was such a moment.
I highly recommend Itty Bitty
This is one if the songs that hit so hard but we needed it at the perfect time. We banned together and loved each other.
