I'm surprised josh didn't comment on the hidden tutorial in the beginning of the game. He has said he likes it when tutorials are done in an authentic way that doesn't take you out of the game, and FNV has probably the most authentic one there is. The game literally teaches you every important mechanic in that first quest line. How your skills affect dialogue, faction reputation, different ways of doing quests, how to craft, how to scavenge, how to lockpick, how to hack, that choices have consequences, all these things and you don't even know you are being taught that the rest of the game will use these same mechanics in varying ways.
@@calebb231 He only mentioned very little of it before he even got to the hidden part. What he was talking about was the open tutorial with sunny smiles. Just wanted to say how much I've been enjoying these vods lately, especially this stream and the Morrowind playthrough (although I'm still making my way through that one). Cozy, relaxed vibes with some silly jokes that become familiar friends throughout the stream, some groan worthy puns and one liners (a mark of true pun quality) and just an all round nice time to be had. I agree. I love fallout 3 and New Vegas equally. Is it just me or do the xbox360 era graphics suit the game way more than the newer fallout 4 graphics? I find it way more immersive for some reason.
What josh missed (and so do most players me included the first time) is that every quest usually has between 2 and 4 ways to solve it. You can succeed the primm sheriff quest by either getting the pardon for Meyers, convincing NCR to take over the place or hacking a robot to act as a law enforcer.
@@DibsAtraiyu Unless you don't kill the bandits on the rollercoaster and then they shoot Primm Slim dead while he's patrolling the streets, so the ending deafults to the worst one. Pretty funny tho.
You mention the survival mechanics just being "eat and drink at certain times". While i generally agree, there is one change to survival mode which makes a huge difference: stimpacks don't heal instantly. That's a reason why survival mode really spikes the difficulty. Not just more HP for enemies and eat/drink more than a human can consume in a day, but an actual mechanic change which makes the game harder. You take damage in combat, you'll slowly heal it with a stimpack instead of just ramming 7 needles in whatever bodypart is closest and coming out on top. ;)
Bro~ I blew up 3 separate computers playing Bethesda games as a teen (literally exploded). Since then I dont play Bethesda games on release, I play them like 2-4 years later with all the mod bug and gfx fixes.
Real ones remember that New Vegas was literally a death sentence for PS3. You were either left with a PS that's barely functioning or just borked. Proof that this game was made using necromancy and duct tape.
25:45 I know this is almost 2 months old now but there is literally no better game for going like "Oh hey its *that* guy!" than New Vegas. it has a wonderfully eclectic voice cast of B-C list actors that knock their roles out of the park
A lot of them are A list too! Like Yuri Lowenthal. He does loads of the miscellaneous male character voices (including the grunts of the male Courier and the voice of Oliver Swanick), and nowadays he's the voice of Spider-Man in the new Insomniac games! He was also the original voice of Ben 10.
I know it might seem like "you shouldn't use mods the first time you play the game". But 1) Viva New Vegas compilation is genuinely important for fixing issues with stability of the game, and bugs that you might encounter in it. And 2) if you really do feel like "DLC items make you overpowered for the start of the game" (which i 100% agree with), then you should download "Jsawyer Ultimate Edition", a version of the mod that was made by Josh Sawyer (the project director and designer of New Vegas) for the original release, but done in a way to work with Ultimate Edition. It does change a bit of the game's balance, but it makes it better, where it genuinely feels like you're even more in the post-apocalypse setting than before, while not making it too challenging for a new player. The mod actually scatters the Pre-order/Pack Items around the world where it makes sense to encounter them. I really do recommend two of these things for every New Vegas player old and new, it's just must have in my opinion.
Some fun facts you might be interested in: Victor can never join in Ghost Town Gunfight, if you visit him during the fighting he'll be disabled, then appologise after the fighting is over. Iron sights isn't always accurate, it depends on the gun. So don't trust it 100%. Caravan is actually an easy source of money once you figure it out.
