I forgot to mention it in the intro, as I do sometimes, but some people are asking why I chose Mr. House as the first Fallout character to cover considering the moral ambiguity surrounding his character. Well that's because I didn't! The patrons did. Mr. House was the patron pick for this month, and so he happened to be covered before any of the other more villainous organizations/people in this universe due to their selection. Hope that clears things up for people wondering why I went with him first!

hell, even the ncr belongs on that list since they evolved into conquerors themselves between the era's of fallout 2 and fallout new vegas while becoming everything wrong with buerocracy. new vegas was the game that showed you really were picking the side that was lesser of evils
i never understood how wanting to keep your own money and invest them in things you like is immoral and egotistical but the government stealing your money to invest in things you hate isnt immoral and egotistical.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the fate of Vault 21. As someone who sided with House, i find it to be one of his most interesting displays of ruthlessness that make him such a compelling character. He displaced an entire community of potentially hundreds of people, destroyed most of their home, and only allowed the remains to function as a hotel that would serve his Strip, all because he didn't want the Vault's tunnels to be used against him - only for Benny to have a secret escape tunnel of his own that went completely undetected.
Benny’s tunnel was only an exit way out of his hotel, it didn’t reach deep into the Lucky 38. The reason for Vault 21s closure was because those tunnels bordered the basement of the lucky 38
Him kicking the Vault residents out is what led to Doc Mitchell and his wife venturing towards California. She died on the way at Good springs, and doc Mitchell never moved on. You can actually find her grave. Anyway the very guy who saves you and never asks for anything in return, has dialogue trees where without expressing a negative opinion, reveals the consequences of Houses decisions. You could say it worked to the Couriers favor that things went as they went, but it didn't go to Doc Mitchell's favor. I like a lot of the good things about being under House, but I side against him for reasons like this. I love the way House built up a future Vegas, but I also prefer when the people win the jackpot and the house doesn't win. House won't bring as much change as his stans seem to think he will, most people's lives will never change, he is not the savior of the wasteland. House says democracy is what led to the war, but actually it was people like him too. The people running vault tec, were people like him. The Chinese government, were autocrats like him. He's not all to different from Caesar, he doesn't crucify people, but he just makes them live in squalor and abject misery.
The Free Economic Zone of New Vegas is an autocracy, there's no other way to put it. House doesn't respect people property rights, it's might make right for him.
Apparently, shooting defenseless, decrepit piles of man jerky is frowned upon. Even if the only reason he's presently defenseless is because you saturated his penthouse with pulse grenades.
Wouldn't be the first questionable part of the karma system. In Fallout 3, you slip an aphrodisiac on a guy without his consent on a date and it's supposed to be a good thing. And you lose karma for taking out a former Project Purity scientist who embraces the Enclave.
The karma system in general is terrible because what one might find something evil, other people will have a different perspective on that same thing. New Vegas did put far less emphasis on it in favor of the faction reputation system, but the karma system should have just been cut.
Fallout’s universe fits this show perfectly and I mean that literally there’s so many characters you can go in depth with. You got Caesar, The master, President Eden, Father Elijah, Benny, Boone, and way more have no clue if you’ve done that or not but you very much should.
@@CB7368 the possibility for this would be so sick. There’s so much analyzing evil could do with characters in the Fallout Universe especially with the new TV Show coming out

The master wasng evil tho. In his own way he wanted to save humanity and push them to a state where the wasteland is no longer poison to them. He went about in a fucked up way and it was a deeply flawed strategy but his intention was far from evil
@@Jormmg Plus simply having a moral sounding board to keep him in check would likely keep him from slipping too far off the deep end But the man sat around and waited for over 130 years for the opportunity to rebuild. He's clearly not a man prone to hasty decisions.
Facts. When it was all over bro set me and my boys up in the Lucky 38 permanently, and might just be me, but it really felt like Mr House had a lot of respect for the Courier too. Like, when they talked, he actually listened.
After House, should be Caesar, Elijah, Ulysses, THEN some NCR people. Then John Henry Eden of course followed by The Institute. No sense covering just one person when it's a hive ideology they all share.
NCR had some of the less...all the less complicated morality in NV. They were a government, in the same sense we know them, just in an apocalypse. Not that deep
Robert Edwin House is a peculiar character. He definitely has an ego and is a businessman first above all else, but I believe him to be a ruthless pragmatist who isn’t easily sidetracked nor does he concern himself with the affairs of others as long as they don’t conflict with his ambitions. His authoritarian tendencies are his worst quality, without question, yet he simultaneously seems the best suited to ensure the long-term survival of humanity. The man is perfectly controversial.
i disagree. when it comes down to "how do we stop the actual extinction of humanity?" house is the only one in the entire series that provides answers. its about the survival of the species. arguably, new vegas is the only actual civilization in the entire wasteland.
It’s because Authoritarianism is bad when you need peace between nations usually. Because House is trying to establish Switzerland without a Congress of Vienna, he has TO BE that force and thus establish himself as a stable nation not to be trifled with. You can’t establish this with words, just look at Haiti. I just realized the Haiti phrase is very similar to “look out the window” as House said.
@@Jimothy-723I agree with House’s vision, I just merely, like others, question his methods in reaching those goals. That said, I disagree with the notion that his vision is the only solution to ensure the survival of humanity. Under President Tandi, the NCR was doing pretty well in that regard, bringing civilization and cooperation for the collective good back to the wasteland in California. Sure with corrupt individuals like Kimball subsequently at the helm, the NCR lost its way, but the potential for it to return to its original purpose remains. Honestly a major reason I sided with House on my first playthrough was also because, in addition to supporting his long-term agenda, I wanted to give the NCR a chance to reclaim its identity from corrupt politicians like Kimball, and it’s outright stated he’s going to be thrown out of office if the NCR loses the Mojave campaign.
@@LordDaret I have to disagree, that Authoritarianism is a bad thing, especialy in good written Fallout universe (not counting Fallour 4 and 76). Everything in this universe in in shades of gray, even Legion (and underdeveloped as well, originaly map was supposed to be much bigger and even deeper than it is). Egalitarianism and Democracy have a lot of negatives, same way like direct opposite. Best example of this is BoS and Followers of Apocalypse, both on the opposite sides.

Courier: Yhea, I forgot the god damn salt an' pepper. Shiet.
I like how House actually has a plan for the future. The NCR is spread too thin and can't get anything done... though they would be my next pick, the legion seems like a horrible fate tbh, and yes man is basically putting all your chips into an AI that can go skynet any moment, although the morals of that ending would depend on your character
the NCR cant even provide clean water. the Legion is doomed to fail because they are incapable of actualy forming civilization. ya know... food and medicine and all that.
THIS. Throughout the series very few factions think about the long term, and the few that do are down right evil like the Enclave and Institute but House realizes the failures of the past and knows how to move forward.

For me it never came off as him being condescending. It shows that he doesn't take pleasure or romanticizes violence but sees it as necessity and nothing more. He see the celebration of it as something barbaric. So if you want to revel in a violent victory do it away from him.
@@nickchavez720 Right, it's no more condescending than your parents telling you off. It's just that when we become adults, we like to pretend we don't need to reminded of how to behave anymore. House isn't evil lol. He's definitely lawful good.
I admit I haven't clicked on a video in a while for various reasons, but this was a must-click for me. Mr House is one of the most interesting characters in all of fiction, and the constant debate that rages on to this day about who or what is best for the Mojave never gets old.
There was an alternate ending that ended up being cut where after destroying his securitrons, the Courier could convince House to surrender to the NCR and allow New Vegas to be peacefully annexed. I honestly wish they'd left this in as it would open up a multitude of interesting possibilities. Not the least of which being House slowly taking over the NCR via the ballot box.
I think it was a much better choice to cut out the peaceful Mr. House option. It FORCES the player to make the difficult choice of killing Mr. House when siding with the NCR/Legion and it makes the player really reflect and go all out for their preferred faction, no half measures. It forces the player to truly believe that their faction is the one and only good choice, which is not easy. Presenting these difficult choices and making the player reflect on which one is the best is what makes this game so fucking great. For me at least, everytime I sided with the NCR or legion, I was always filled with dread everytime I had to execute Mr. House, it really feels like you've just doomed humanity.

House is easily my favorite ending in the game. I always saw his endings as as a reflection of the Courier themselves. A good karma Courier resulting in a much more fairer House. The one thing that absolutely stood out to me the most from the rest of the factions is how he's not wanting to be the dictator, but a facilitator. He wants humanity to have a chance to thrive once again via interstellar travel and supposedly continue on without him. I've heard that the development team had to make some drawbacks to House like killing the BoS because he would've been an easy choice for players to side with over the rest. I'm one of the few that doesn't mind killing the BoS given how they refuse to adapt in the Mojave. In Veronica's quest, they literally gun down a bunch of harmless physicians and the fact that McNamara never addresses that not to mention he knows they'll die out shows how twisted the chapter is. If F:NV is to ever be given a canon ending, I think the House ending is the perfect canddiate as it leaves a lot of open ended scenarios with both the Legion and the NCR. Thanks for covering one of my favorite video-game characters of all time.
Fallout is an RPG and the courier is whoever you want them to be so it’s more of a reflection of yourself, not a complete one because a story can only account for so much (and new Vegas had a very short dev time)
RIP Rene. You were the heart and soul of DS9. Mr House was Lawful Evil. He had a plan, a possibly delusional one, but he never stepped out of a generally ethical framework to make it happen. The House always wins, because he stacked the deck; if you help him win, you win too.

I like how all 3 factions have the element of *Past , Present and Future* and their different leanings on each one are what give them their good and bad sides: *NCR* is focused on the present while taking inspiration from the past , but not considering the futue. Its the most "good" faction on a base level , but it doesn't remove the fact that many of its officials are corrupt and their lack of forethought could lead them to make the same mistakes the previous government made. No matter how many well-intentioned people there are. *The Legion* is all about bringing the past into the present. A time whem human life only mattered if you were born into privilege or if you were strong enough to be the last man standing. Its the most prosperous faction for sure, with the most territory, resources and army. But what does that prosperity really mean when it was built on the backs of slaves who are ready to rebel at any given opportunity or when vast army is mostly made up of just slightly more disciplined and better equipped raiders who are itching at the chance to get more power. The Legion, like the empire they take so much inspiration from, is a house of cards doomed to fall in on itself because they aren't looking to fix potential future problems, just bury them with more conquests, which is ironically having the opposite effect. In fact, the conversation with Legate Lanius you can have if your Speech is high enough is essentially just you pointing this out. How the Legion's constant rapid expansion will one day stretch them soo thin that actually *defending* all that territory will be impossible. Be it from attacks from rival factions, from rebellions and/or traitors in their own ranks. And, to Lanius' credit, he does show himself reasonable enough to hear you out and has a *genuine* "Oh, shit!" moment when he does the math himself and realises that you're right. He leaves to convince Ceasar to retreat to fix the festering problems with the Legion, which he HAS been warning him about for years, albeit not before giving you a great deal of respect by saying that he's looking forward to the day he meets you and NCR on the field of battle once their hold on the east of the country is stabilised. Basically, acknowledging you as an equal for your cunning alone. This , to be fair, shows that there *are* people in the Legion who are competent leaders and who can turn into something more than what it is, but its quite unlikely The titular character of the video House, is focused on the future and learning from the past, but is completely dismissive of the present. Sure, House has an actual plan to save humanity, with the intelligence, patience, longevity and resources to make it happen. But the problem is that the guy was completely blind, whether its willfully or not doesn't matter, to the festering problems his style of governing was creating. He didn't care about the growing inequality between the citizens of New Vegas and he didn't care about the growing anemosity between the factions helping run his city or that they were all basically mobsters. When your faction is mostly made up of robots who follow your every whim and people who are only following you out of self interest, with growing inequality on top of that, what does that say about the society House would have created? How many problems will his "ideal future" really have when its foundation is this rotted? Despite his longevity, House can't live forever so, like the Legion, even if he had the time he needed to build his utopia it would eventually crumble in on itself the moment he died.

It's disturbing how many people see Mr. House as the best option. Yet, his vision easily gets derailed by the machinations of a guy in a checkered suit, and some woman who lives in a tent. What's more, for his plan to come to fruition, he requires the willing complicity of some brain-damaged delivery worker, who may or may not decide to just off House and take the reins for themselves. For all his prose and grandstanding, one really must question whether Mr. House is the all-knowing genius he claims to be. Say what you want about The Legion and the NCR. But, at least their goals won't go completely sideways if the courier is killed, or just faffs off elsewhere. If either of those scenarios were to happen, House would be just another obstacle for whoever wins Hoover Dam.
A subtle theme that Fallout has always had is the idea of building and maintaining civilization, and how different spectrums of humanity go about them. The BoS, the Enclave, the NCR, the Khans, the Legion, Mr. House, the Followers, the Minutemen, the Institute, even the vaults and the Master's Army. They all under unique categories of morality, politics, government structures, and cultural values, but they each share the same goal: survival and prosperity despite the circumstances. They're all trying to build back some aspect of the Old World way of life in the emptiness of the wasteland. Under the circumstances they found themselves in, they each create their own version of society with their respective upsides and flaws. But it's still rooted in that goal of building back what little remains of the Old World. People may interpret that as "there's no right or wrong answer", but I want to think of it more like "the right answer will reveal itself eventually." No matter how much the Vault Dweller, Chosen One, Lone Wanderer, Courier, or Sole Survivor do to shape the wasteland, only time will tell who will truly rebuild America, if at all. House is just one interpretation of America's future in Fallout, and there's no telling if a techno-utopia or a callous inhumane monolith will follow. But whatever happens, when all else fails, humanity will always try again. Nations rise and fall, but people will always pick up the pieces in search of a better way of life.

If I may suggest, FFXIV has a lot of really interesting villains who’d be right at home in your videos; Emet Selch, Zenos, Thoradin, Hermes and Fandaniel, Meteion, Yotsuyu, the list goes on.
Robert House is the perfect morally gray character for the world of fallout. You're hard pressed to debate his reasoning because a lot of what he believes is logical based on how events played out. But his methods of obtaining his goals puts him at a place between the NCR & the legion on the morality scale.
No he wasn’t. He was just there to listen out to what Vault-Tec was going to do, that’s it. The show just presented him as a pragmatic skeptic, It’s not really that that the show says. Mr.House isn’t a “co-conspirator” in “ending the world” at all like Vault-Tec has done, it’s that he’s not evil AT ALL in the show as he questions valut-tec and the usage of them bombing people for results, he’s just waiting to hear what they’re going to do and wait for them to act before they strike. That’s it as Mr.House is just waiting and prepare for what Vault-Tec to do so he can make his move, that’s why he was in that meeting and questioning everything!
Think about the entire quest for the platinum chip and why it occurred in New Vegas, and then try to reconcile that with what you just said. You can't. If the show is implying he's responsible, my opinion of it just sank.
I remember my first playthrough of New Vegas, thanks to the internet, I was able to both kill House and take control of his army of security bots, while also making friends with the Boomers, so come the siege on the dam, I was able to push both invading armies out with a combination of bomber raids and threats to target New California next (and beating up Ceasar's main honcho).
You can definitely say House is Machiavellian, apathetic, & purely utilitarian, but I wouldn't say evil. Sure those traits definitely make him rub up against the line, but he doesn't truly cross it.
What he did to vault 21 what he continues to do to freeside are proof he is evil. A leader who does not care for all of the people he imposes his rule upon is inherently evil. He forces freeside to follow his rules and continues to not allow them the same benefits as the few wealthy people that live on the strip. Actively making a decision that condemns hundred to thousands of ppl to starving to death and other horrid living conditions is evil. You can't argue that he isn't able to help these people or that it's just a side effect he didn't intend. Keeping freeside in perpetual poverty is a conscious decision he makes to keep them so focused on day to day survival that they don't have any opportunity to push back against his rule. If he at the very least saw to it that the people of Freeside were well fed and had clean water and that it's ppl had their basic needs cared for, you could make the argument he's just utilitarian. But he chooses not to help them just because they want to be independent and his ego cannot handle doing something that doesn't end up with the people he's helping not being kept under his thumb. He very clearly can afford to extend relief to at the very least the people of Freeside and it would benefit them, but because they understandably don't want to give up their freedoms, he forces them into poverty and doesn't even allow those who are okay with being at the mercy of a corporate autocrat the opportunity to enter New Vegas unless they're wealthy enough or know someone who is. Hes just good at pretending like he's just being pragmatic even though his actions are very clearly poisoned by his ego and need to be in control and always profiting. He not only allows the casinos to run, he runs the entire The Strip itself like one big casino. He only allows you to play the game at all if he knows he can have the house edge and that you can make him richer.

I like how all 3 factions have the element of *Past , Present and Future* and their different leanings on each one are what give them their good and bad sides:
*NCR* is focused on the present while taking inspiration from the past , but not considering the futue.
This , to be fair, shows that there *are* people in the Legion who are competent leaders and who can turn into something more than what it is, but its quite unlikely
The titular character of the video House, is focused on the future and learning from the past, but is completely dismissive of the present.
Also, I don't buy his "vision" for a fucking second. He's a textbook narcissist
@@simoneidson21 He's a cold egoist but not a narcissist. He doesn't require narcissistic supply and seems if anything indifferent to other people's opinion of him. He doesn't even care when they betray him beyond it hurting his plans. Caesar is an actual example of a mood swinging malignant narcissist who requires (literal) worship.
@@simoneidson21 No, a narcissist would try harder to manipulate you. House is nothing but direct and transactional in his conversations with the player.
He's not narcissistic, he's solipsistic. He believes himself to be the *only* person in the world that truly matters, and damns anyone else. The strip is falling apart due to him neglecting to govern it for even a single second, and Freeside is completely chaotic and borderline just as bad as being outside the walls in the mojave. The most damning thing about him is that he calculated when the bombs were going to drop *almost down to the very day it happened* and ONLY made a defense system for Vegas. He kept this a secret from the world. House could have saved the world, but he only chose to save what he saw was his property... and damn everyone else.
You're right for not trusting him, but for the wrong reason
Very well said!
House is certainly more on the ruthless side than outright evil. But boy, does he have his moments that make you question just how many graves he will fill.
An analysis of Father Elijah would be absolutely amazing. He has probably one of the most intriguing stories in fallout lore and is such an underrated character in general.
The DS9 note made me think immediately of The Founders and Dominion, or even just Dukat on his own. They had such great villains on that show.
Killing Mr. House and Ryan with a golf club is a yet another reference to Howard Hughes. Who loved Golf, and owned golf clubs.
Vile Eye breaking into Fallout: New Vegas?!
Oh, hellllll yeah. Such a number of legendary characters of fiction that the Fallout franchise can offer up.
Mr. House will always be my favorite person to affiliate with in New Vegas.
Tenpenny from GTA San Andreas
now we need an analyzing evil: House M.D.
Analyzing Evil Ideas:
1. Silco(Arcane)
2. Lester Nygaard(Fargo)
3. Napoleon(Animal Farm)
4. Avon Barksdale(The Wire)
5. Tighten(Megamind)
6. Wheatley(Portal 2)
7. Dennis(It’s Always Sunny)
8. Jim Moriarty(Sherlock)
"Evil"
I've waited so long for Mr.House to get an episode and it did not disappoint
I love Mr House. Such a complicated villain that I choose to side with.
i know our timelines differ, but this man could be watching skibidi toilet videos right now, and thats scary to think
😂 💯
Analyzing Evil? Now THAT is debatable.
ikr? House wasn't even evil
Whether or not House was evil depends on your view of ethics, if you're an utilitarian then Mr. House is morally good but if you're an apologist of deontology he's evil
Mr house " why did you kill Kimball"
Courier " he tried to make me pay my taxes "
Mr house " understandable have a good day "
Surprised that Cesar or Lanius weren't first.
House has always been my personal favorite choice, but I can't deny his shade.
Great stuff as always, Vile.
Hope to see these covered some day!
- Joe Cooper (Killer Joe)
- Nino Brown (New Jack City)
- Jake "The Muss" Heke (Once Were Warriors)
- Dr. X (from the Operation: Mindcrime albums by Queensrÿche)
Man Elijah is far more evil than House.
House is more interesting though
Elijah is just a plain crazy man that got lucky.
Elijah is a shining example of everything the brotherhood stood against
@@maxgrozema1093Incorrect, he (Elijah) is a representation of just how evil the Brotherhood can be, turns out they are almost if not equally as evil as the Oldclave.
The Brotherhood have caused many an atrocities since there inception including:
Elijah’s very existence
the brainwashing of Christine after destroying her life and sentencing her to a fate worse than death at the Sierra Madre as its Warden preventing less malicious parties from recovering its invaluable technology.
Massacring Followers of the Apocalypse
Destroying the NCR’s Gold Reserves destroying the most stable currency in the Post War.
Genocidal Campaigns against Non-Feral Ghouls, Sapient and Non-Hostile FEV Spawn, and Sapient Synthetic Organisms that are no longer under the Institute’s control.
The biggest crime of all the Brotherhood has committed has been their deliberate stagnation of all Technological and Scientific development unless of course it except the developments that benefits them and solely them.
neither are evil.
Mr. House is a very rare human.
Always my favourite Ending for NV. He has a vision for the future and the track record to prove that he is actually capable to bring it into fruition. Of course his autocratic leadership style is unsuitable for the long term, but it sill beats NCR, Legion and Yes-Man
Hmm idk yes man ending is guaranteed to work. Anarchy is social bed rock.
@@BOBINDUNthe “Yes man” will just say yes to all your ideas. You didn’t replace house, you just became him.
After all, he can’t complain…
@@LordDaret I just mean an independent vegas is borderline anarchy
@@LordDaret Watch the ending dialogue with yes man again. You don't become the ruler of Vegas.
@@raidenpz the devs confimed fans misunderstood what yes man meant it was to show that yes man can put his foot down when you are not around and not be manipulated like how you used yes mans weakness against benny. you do rule vegas and how good a job you do depends on your courior so for me Yes man ending is the best because my courior is the best pick and will do everything better. Again they added that bit about yes man being more assertive so he can do shit for you while you are out in the wasteland and so no one else can use yes man against you. It would be a bad day for yes man if he fucked with courier 6 he knows better.
yes man only takes orders from you now
Here are some villains you could analyze in a future video:
-The Major, from Hellsing Ultimate
-Shogo Makishima, from Psycho-pass
-John Dupont, from Foxcatcher
-Vaas Montenegro, from Far Cry 3
He already did Vaas
I think what makes discussion around New Vegas endure is that you could theoretically make one of these videos for every major faction in the game. NCR, Legion, Yes Man/Benny, and House all do heinous things in order to further their own interests and take control of the Mojave.
I’d love to see a video about Elder Arthur Maxson. I have my own idea but I’d love to see an analysis of him by the Vile Eye.
The rule of Mr House would be another bloody chapter of human history. In a way another old world blues just in a different shade from the NCR
Now with the release of the show, you might want to revisit Mr. House again.
Maybe a Vault tec vid too
That shit is a travesty and will never be canon I don't care what Todd says.
Now I need Caesar, Ulysses and Joshua Graham.
Yes, Yes, and Yes. 👍
Ulysses and Joshua aren't evil
Nah, Caesar, The Think Tank/Mobius, and Elijah. Ulysses and Joshua aren't villains, antagonists perhaps, but very much not villains.
@@smitefulaxe1344 I sat Ulysses because he was planning to nuke the NCR. NCR may be corrupt, but there's still innocent people in them.
@@smitefulaxe1344 I agree on most of them except for Caesar, I think he’s more of a villain but a complex one for sure.
Hellll yeah, I didn’t even think there was gonna be a fallout vid. Loving it
Fallout NV's baddies are great characters to study. Can't wait to hear him cover Caesar and Ulysses and (debatably evil) Joshua Graham.
So thats what you look like, cool! Im here after binging Fallout show, real good, Mr. House makes a cameo too.
And the show shits on him completely.
Since you mentioned DS9 I'd like to see Dukat on this channel.
I got a few suggestion for new episodes
Micah Bell - Red Dead Redemption 2
The Greek - The Wire
Phil Leotardo - The Sopranos
Misty Quigley - Yellowjackets
Livia Sopranos - The Sopranos
Bob - Twin Peaks
Ultron - Avengers
Bob is an excellent choice imo. The shots of him lingering around the Palmer house still creep me out to this day.
A good villain to do a video on would be Kane from “Command & Conquer.”
Robert Edwin House is a chad. Fuck the BoS . Vegas will be reborn amongst the stars , HOUSE ALWAYS WINS.
I can’t get over that Mr. House is a Gen Alpha
Imagine every time house speaks to the courier he has subway surfers be lower his screen lol. Or has coco melon nostalgia
Been waiting for a Fallout Analyzing Evil for the LONGEST
I violently crave a Joshua Graham episode.
he's not a villain
@@GG_1318he definitely was, still is unless Courier intervenes to not kill Salt-Upon-Wounds, his only way at redemption/good ending.
@@Gun_Metal_Grey For his personal arc maybe, but I feel there's a lot more room for nuance when it comes to murdering the leader of a band of savage despoilers. Unless you're saying it's morally wrong to kill Caesar as well? At least Caesar has something of an ideological and philosophical motivation, Salt-Upon-Wounds is about as evil and senseless as they come in New Vegas.
@@enclaveherewhyisntyourvide3089 i wasnt saying Salt Upon Wounds wasnt evil. I implied Joshua's past with the Legion, it doesn't undo his past crimes now that he is trying to help out the Dead Horses.
Graham is anti-villain during most of the DLC. Humiliating Salt Upon Wounds by sparing him in the end makes Joshua not to be so violent "hey lets erase them from existence" anymore, no matter how awful the White Legs are and he achieves peace.
Great video as always. Just wanted to suggest Akira Nishikiyama from the Yakuza series as another video game Analyzing Evil.
Found your channel a couple of months ago, another great video. Such well-structured and concise videos.
Seeing you cover Fallout is something I'd never expect, but I adore it. New Vegas is my favorite game of all time. I look forward to what's in store!

One of my favourite things about mr house is that one of his arguments for trusting him not to be power hungry and greedy is literally just “Trust me bro”
I would rather live in the Freeside ghetto than have to worry about raiders in the wastes
You're blinded by the idea that the choices you have are ONLY "live in ghetto" or be "raider food".
@@DreamersOfReality Those aren't the only options, but living in a ghetto is better than being raider food
quick note, RobCo WAS putting prisoners' brains into robot and making a torture bots, so don't think House was just the normal brand of "ruthless businessman".
Honestly the greatest bit of House writing was the "if you want to see the fate of democracy look at the window" line simply because he just blatantly manipulating you. Like he's just assuming you didn't know the resources war was fought because of a overconsumption of resources and one side was a literal dictatorship like he arguing is needed.
like his whole pitch is the demonize his opponent by stating "democracy=war" while just restarting the cycle of consumption that doom the world in the first place, like he's just gambling on being able to get to space. granted the only other people really working on sustainability are the OSI and the Institute.
Were the whole brains of prisoners and torture robots part of 1/2/NV, or something Bethesda added?
@@BaconMinion yeah those are specifically post NV, though NV also used Bethesda's "RobCo helped made a nuke throwing doomsday robot" too so not like they're just dirtying up the company image.
I think that RobCo was making the Robobrains on the orders of the goverment, as House dosen't make any use of them.
@@nonamegiven202 Yeah but Liberty Prime Didn't throw nukes anywhere near the size you could end the world with, and what's better: In a short process where they are incinerated or smashed he turns any commies he finds into Good Commies. With results like that, I can't complain about house making him.
Gambling Humanities future is quite fitting given his empire is built on casino's
The interesting thing About Mr Houses death is hes the only major character where seemingly no one has anything nice to or sorrow to say about him. Pretty much everyone is happy or at-least doesn’t care. He is in general super disliked despite having good intentions, and being responsible for Vegas having as high of living standards as it has and not being overtly cruel. He may be a visionary but, he is NOT the uniting figure he thinks he is.
Im so happy you made this please do more on this fantastic masterpiece of a video game

That was his mistake.

>Pays you for doing your job with no strings attached
>Never betrays you
>Against taxes
>Actually has a plan to save the human race
>Doesn't want to see anyone suffer because he doesn't enjoy it

Mr. House isn't against taxes, in fact he imposes quite heavy taxes
House is against beind taxed, not against taxing others

Awesome video as always! And as for a suggestion maybe doing a video on Sal Marcano from Mafia 3
I think Shang Tsung would be an awesome episode of analyzing evil
13:35 Bad take. The Fallout world of old was destroyed by greed, violence and the inability to reconcile, 'values' that are alive and well in all parts of the wasteland and which House is absolutely fine with (minus the last one, depending). Also, if one were to make that argument, there's nothing 'new' about House - he's just a rich guy who has created his own city-state. Who's to say that a space colony ruled by a feeble, pre-war autocrat wouldn't be riddled with the problems we find on Earth?
Evil? No. I prefer the term “Autocrat”.
Nice job on this video, you summed up the dark aspects of House really well. There are many reasons he’s such a popular character.
May have to revisit House after the show 😉
Now that we know Mr House was partly responsible for the bombs dropping
