I remember buying tickets for Phantom when it was in Toronto at the Pantages. We didn't know Paul Satnley was starring until we drove up there(from Ohio-6 hours away). It was awesome-especially all the Kiss Army in the audience. The man did a great job. Bravo
He’s lead singer of one of the most famous rock bands of all time, has done professional theatre, is a great artist and makes money for it, wrote a book, and has restaurants. He’s literally every dream I dream
Bravo, Starchild! I definitely have a newfound respect for this guy. What an amazingly powerful and beautiful voice! Just goes to show that he could sing outside of his genre, and I think he did a fantastic job!
I’m so happy we have recordings of Paul’s ‘Phantom’. The dynamics of his range are literally phenomenal. His vibrato is the icing. My god, what a great performance.
I was lucky enough to see his performance of the Phantom in Toronto. He was amazing and the only cast member to receive a well deserved standing ovation. That night is very special because it was the last theatre production I saw with my fiancé before his death a few months after that. Thanks for the great memory!
Teresa Kibbe-Riddle Couldn’t agree more! We were so lucky to have seen another side of the Starchild, that not too many fans had the chance to see. I think of that night at the Pantages Theater fondly. It truly was magical, right? 🙂
I always liked Paul's voice from the time I first heard him in Kiss. But who knew the guy had pipes like this?! Excellent and totally beyond what I expected! Great job, Paul!
I've been a fan for 38 years, so more or less like you, but my problem was that here in Spain only some records were edited, so I have to spend more money in the imported ones (that were a lot). Also, the spanish magazines barely speaked of Kiss, so I usually buyed a german magazine that published a lot of Kiss articles (only for the pictures, I didn't and still don't understand german). It wasn't easy to be a Kiss fan from 81 to 84 in Spain.
@@weebiscuit7337 Very probably. Freddie was one of the best voices in the seventies, like Ian Gillan, Robert Plant or... Paul Stanley. Long live rock'n roll.
Always a KISS and Paul Stanley fan, I flew from Alberta to Toronto to see him perform in Phantom of the Opera at the Pantages Theatre. It was by far the most brilliant performance I have ever seen.
This is so fantastic! I absolutely love the phantom and kiss... blows my mind! Also, I always thought Freddie Mercury would have made the greatest phantom ever! I mean the operatic and showmanship alone. which is what Stanley has as well!
I know that Paul Stanely Is not likely to ever read this. But it was KISS that made me love theature, and it was the Phantom of the Opera that became an obsession of mine when I was a kid. I was in Toronto when you did this, and I should have been there, but I was in church at the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship instead. I am sorry that I missed this once in a life time opportunity. I love you very much.
Wait, wait, wait...I saw The Phantom of the Opera at the Pantages Theatre in Toronto in 1999 without knowing who was singing. Yes, I know it's been a long time but I had kinda, unfortunately, completely forgot how much I love it until I was recently reminded. I found out that Paul Stanley was The (Toronto) Phantom and now I'm finding out that it's "the" Paul Stanley from KISS? I saw a KISS member live??? I wish I had known at the time, lmao. Oh well. My mind is blown.
I'm not really into opera, but... Paul Stanley can make anything sound good. I actually almost cried when I first heard him sing this song. Really emotional.
I'm not shocked at all. I've heard Paul's growth as a singer over several years and he became a great rock and roll vocalist and this really wasn't a surpise to me. Paul was top 5 for a while in the rock and roll world. Great job Paul for working so hard at your craft. My favorite singer and songwriter, period
He is just my favourite of all time. The best voice on planet earth. I was blown away by him at age 13 and he's still fantastic. I'm 59 now. Still incredible and doing Motown hits. This gives me chills.
I also saw this at Pantages theater in Toronto when Paul played this role.. met him after with a few of the cast members, and he was humble for having the opportunity to do this.. I was humbled to be there to see the show. This song gave me chills.. it still brings a tear hearing it.. god, what a classic!
My dad hated the idea of musicals, especially opera until he saw this show. He really wasn't interested in the show itself, just the fact that Paul Stanley had a leading role. This completely changed his perspective. He loves musicals and considers PTO one of his absolute favourites, if not his favourite.
It is one os the best imo, worth all the hype, pomp, and cicumstance. Paul playing the lead would bump that up no doubt. Like KISS, Phantom is larger than life, and overblown. Ive seen it twice, and would go again in a second👍
Had the pleasure of seeing him perform this on stage as a returning Phantom the year they shut it down in Toronto. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE to experience in person.
Oh my gosh Paul..I never knew! What a wonderful head voice..and breathless transition into those upper registers! You truly are an artist extraordinaire! Bravo ! Never let it be said that you are not a majestic vocalist .. as.. you are! Thank you for the post..and a very full of life moment
Sadly nothing lasts forever. This was a few yaers after the Reunion tour, and they were still tight and on their games then. Those vocal chords had more than a good run.👍
Paul Stanley omg i never knew he did this he is perfection the song combined with man of my dreams since i was a kid my heart truly epic dreams do come true
aww! what memories! When I was seven, I went with my mom to Toronto and we see Paul's performance in the Phantom! My mom passed away in 2010. I been relyeing on youtube to help me re-live quite a bit of memories.
The key to singing these songs is to make them your own.I saw Phantom with Robert Guillaume as the lead and I though "wait a minute.Benson is doing Phantom?"He rattled the building with a huge and graveled type vocal that made the songs even MORE haunting than they already are.Paul did a great job.Chills.
You so y’all will never fucking guess what happened today so I was going through my grandmas old stuff…my grandma has a unopened original vhs version of this like from start to finish every scene…it is in a plastic bin in a box with the seal still intact…I am shook…only problem I have a vhs player but no way to connect it to a tv…it sucks but it’s so cool that have an actual vhs copy of this…my grandma is the best…Rest In Peace grandma…you were and still are the best
Yes, he talks quite a bit about this part of his life in his book. He would rehearse backstage during the KISS tour at the time, then a short time after the tour he arrived in Toronto and spent several hours in rehearsals every day. And then with a few weeks to go before opening night he contacted a vocal coach to get it right. 🙂
@SwiftnSly13 I was fortunate enough to see him in the production... What an amazing performance... He was so excited to get the opportunity to be in it that he put everything he had into it... One of the best shows ever!!!
I knew he was a good singer, but I didn't think his style would fit well with this. But he pulls it off. It's the combination of two of my favorite things.
@koochyman I would argue that Freddie Mercury had a better voice than Stanley. Yet Mercury was an absolute miracle. Yet Paul has a fine voice as well. He and Freddie are probabaly the best rock vocalists in rock history.

Heck yeah man definitely worth seeing him
It was an amazing experience...
...and your right , it was very special for KISS fans.
We saw him there too. Did not realize he was playing the Phantom till we got our playbill. We knew he was an understudy but how exciting.
Paul’s voice is incredible in Phantom of the Opera! Very talented man!!
He’s lead singer of one of the most famous rock bands of all time, has done professional theatre, is a great artist and makes money for it, wrote a book, and has restaurants. He’s literally every dream I dream
Did a couple movies too
Billy Price OMG NOW HES EVEN MORE MY DREAMS

sorry your fiance died Rhianna ari😢🌺
I have been meaning to go to pantages theater but due to my cancer I've been having trouble getting out of the house
why there is not an official recording of this on CD jus baffles me, Kiss and Phantom phans would buy it, I am a phan of both.
+Eric Lewis there is but good luck finding it. i gave up.
only bootlegs exist.
I would buy one
I always said there were so many missed opportunities missed with both merchandise at the Phantom shows he
Paul has said that he has a copy that might see the light of day
This guy is beyond incredible. His talents don't stop with music. He paints, writes etc. Think he has other things like restaurants. Gifted.
PAUL is an ANGEL of MUSIC
That was lovely. His version is outstanding. I wish he would record it in the studio with a full orchestra.
I always liked Paul's voice from the time I first heard him in Kiss. But who knew the guy had pipes like this?! Excellent and totally beyond what I expected! Great job, Paul!
I always knew Paul could sing, but wow he knocked me out here!
Wow i've been a kiss fan for over 35yrs and this the first time I heard this music and it's beautiful I need to find a copy of this
Check out all phantom of the opera especially the title track

Paul IS the Angel of Music
Agree so much. Though while Freddie's genius is widely recognized, Paul Stanley's voice is so underappreciated.
Totally agree............ but you have to admit that Freddie would’ve been AMAZING as Phantom.
@@weebiscuit7337 Very probably. Freddie was one of the best voices in the seventies, like Ian Gillan, Robert Plant or... Paul Stanley. Long live rock'n roll.
@@weebiscuit7337 Imo he'd be too much. The Phantom is a deep and greatly nuanced performance, and I just don't see Freddie Mercury doing it well.
What a duet that would of made

How we doing people???!!!!!
just wandered in here, first few seconds I actually yelled "HOLY SHIT!" this is amazing
I get teary-eyed every time I listen to this!
I just began reading his biography a few days ago and oh, this made me cry.
This is so fantastic! I absolutely love the phantom and kiss... blows my mind! Also, I always thought Freddie Mercury would have made the greatest phantom ever! I mean the operatic and showmanship alone. which is what Stanley has as well!
I totally agree.......... Freddie would’ve taken Phantom to a completely different level!!!

He is so underrated as the Phantom
This makes me ache for a time before Paul's voice went to hell. He used to be so good!

I recall Paul possessing this style of singing reflecting the track Odyssey from the album’The Elder’
awesome!
