How to fix a slight ABS pulsing just before coming to a halt

  • The ABS sensors may be covered in rust and dirt when your ABS kicks on just before coming to a complete stop. This video shows what to do if you cannot remove the sensor due to it being stuck in place. This unfortunately happens a lot. Do not try to pry the sensor out. It is very expensive if you can get a replacement at all. Take off the wheel hub to clean the sensors instead.

    Hi Ralf,
Bosch Classic just announced in their December Newsletter that they are starting to resume production of the ABS Sensors.
The Sensors will only be available through the Bosch Classic program through their Bosch Car Service Centers
    Merry Christmas
    Peter

Cool, nice bit of information. I am sure they will cost a pretty Penny. Still looking for a good way to get a stuck good sensor out w/o busting it.

Really Ralph? I'd have liked to see it cleaned, and then I suppose you need to do all four of them.
After that, a drive to see if that cured the problem. 😆
I did the brakes and bearings on my 85 300d back in the early 2000s.
I had to turn those clamps off with a pipe wrench even after taking the bolt out completely.
When I put them on, I ended up overtitening them with a pipe wrench, and the bearings burned up after a few months.
I guess if those clamps are on there long enough, they lose any spring they are supposed to have in them. I should have just replaced them but didn't think to at the time.
    Oh well, live and learn.
Now that I think of it, my abs and bas lights come on periodically on my 2001 e320. It doesn't pulse. I wonder if dirty, rusty sensors would cause that. I hate to think of having to replace the pump.

Hi Werner. It has been a while since your last post. The 126 only has three sensor. The one in the rear is mounted to the differential. It is extremely rare that these give you grief and the gear oil usually keep the sensor free from rust and dust.
Sorry you had to go through the trouble with the shaft nuts. All the best.

hi, my 300sd feels like it has 30hp when starting, it just does not take of at all but when the boost hits at 2,3k rpm it works just perfectly fine. Have you had an similar problem and know how to fix it?

Hmm. Remote diagnosis like this is riddled with issues. This phenomenon can be related to the ALDA, fuel rack linkage, fuel supply, injection timing, low compression. etc. At least you are not alone with this issue and I found a hopefully useful thread for you: www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/237281-no-low-rpm-power.html
