You get what you pay for. Retouching should NEVER cost anything less than £100. Retouching can take hours, and anyone can remove a spot but there's so much more to it than most people think. ESPECIALLY if your going to be printing big, you will notice every clone stamp or Frequency seperation colouring. It's an art in itself like your video just proved. One persons vision is completely different to another, some from lack of experience and some from personal taste. These in the video are both. They are doing what they "THINK" is retouching from some youtube tuts they have seen. But have never watched a real professional who gets paid to do it for big companies. For example I LOVE Piximperfect PS tutorials, but some of his examples of editing are truly awful.

Sorry but these prices are the reason for so much bullshit circling through the internet. When I retouch a beauty pic it takes me up to 8 hours and will cost you around 160 €. I have to pay taxes an all the things. These 5$ people are the reason why customers don't want to pay for my work. Really sad!
Jup, same. Also edit all portraits I shoot, but they can't imagine editing 1 photo takes usually more than 5 hours. For customers it ends after their pictures have been taken. So they have no idea how much times goes into perfecting a photo.
lmaoo blaming these people why customers dont pay for your work is so sad. And anyone who reinforces you being correct is not being honest. work your ass off and it people will take notice. People buy 2000$ shoes when theres plenty of knock offs of the same shoe or other alternative prices. cmon now

if i were you, i would not outsource editing somekind of art photography. It is a lot more feels on it, not just techical. Outsource would be effective for cleanining background, cleaning stains, you know, something more technical. If i were editing your photo, i would ask you to send some samples (probaly 5-10) for me to see the style you are after. Editing photo is so personal, it is always come down to personal style
lmao, that fourth one must've been a straight troll... i actually liked the third (and most expensive) one maybe most, because it was most "natural", relatively speaking, though once you pointed out the blur it was hard to un-see. #1 was def most editorial.

this video is everything im looking for a photography content
seeing all the images, side by side. The first and second edit was amazing to me. my only problem with the first is the strong line in the model nose, looking like its a bad contour make up. and the tone in the second one looks gorgeous to my personal taste. if blend yours with the tone of the second, was perfection to me. but the shot is amazing so, to be honest, dont have any way to make it look bad. xD

The first retouched photo was amazing, I was really mind blown by her work. Kudos to her creating such a professional work for this price. I could see the similarity in color choice compering to your photo but I think she did a slight better job with the dodge & burn + not sure this amount of liquefy in your photo was needed. anyway tnx for sharing your experience

You worked hard to get the feel and style in your image. Some retouchers seem to think that your picture needed rescuing. When your work is artistic the retoucher needs to be in the loop for your final vision if the outcome is to meet what you want. It takes me quite a while to edit and retouch images and I would charge by the hour as well as having a period of consultation with the artist. I think some have got some quick fix approaches which they tweak. They are taking the price of retouching down too far and taking work away from people who charge industry rates.
Great video, but I would consider either blocking or blurring out the names of fiver users to avoid any humiliation for them when critiquing their work, or lack thereof...

I like the skin color in the photo you edited and the part of the face where it ends above the lower lip, the lower jaw I would have worked more, it looks a little dark relative to the light on the rest of the face and the uneven lower jaw is especially striking, it looks asymmetrical. in any case, your editing looks the most professional. That last one omg eww. It's like the uploaded your photo to a Rebel camera and used a Motorola RaZr to edit and reupload it back to you through a 48.8k modem. That sucker was absolutely hideous.

Probably wouldn't outsource unless I knew the retouchers work and we had a similar style of editing. Somehow I think I would feel the end result wouldn't be a 100% my photo.

This photo didn't deserve what it went through. Obviously, it's a high-end beauty shot, so you'd need a high end retoucher that doesn't use frequency separation and can clean the skin with clone stamp and healing brush properly as well as fix any color issues with the skin. If I send something like that to the photographers I work with, I'll never hear from them again. Beautiful photo tho.

The second was totally bad, but the price is unbeatable so we can't really ask much. The third one was even worse: the retoucher totally used the Skin Smoothing in the Natural Filter selection. And don't get me started on the fourth one! :(

I just wonder, what magic would you do for 5dollars. And would you yourself agree to do this quality level for such a price and time it takes to retouch. It's easy to criticize others when you take an example done for 5 dollars only and expecting it to be high end retouching...You got here 50 times more for 5 dollars here than you should of.
Why wouldn't you give them directions? The more info you gave them the better you could have compared them? If you leave it to interpretation of the retoucher the results depend on their 'artistic' view, not yours or your expectations for a 5 pound worth. I wouldn't even open PS for mere 5 pound on a payed job.
