My former high school band teacher is the director of the Vikings' drum line. Whenever our band was rehearsing and the percussion section wasn't playing something correctly, he'd always step off his podium and play it for them until they figured it out.
I miss the Falcons drumline, watching them as a kid made me want to March even more. I went to 2 of their tryout days after I got out of out of high school, and it was an awesome experience with some really good drummers. My drum tech from school marched with them as well.

Many Innovative Percussion stuff! I marched high school drum line and Memphis Blues Brass Band *a drum & bugle corps with the founder, owner and president of IP Erick Johnson. Just a couple of Southern Middle Tennessee boys doing drum corps and still changing the world of percussion! Thanks for the Videos!
I remember Memphis Blues. 1981 and 82 I think. I marched snare with Spirit of Atlanta in 1980 and we played a show in Memphis. That's when Jim Ott died on tour in the wreck and we played exhibition that night. Also saw Memphis Blues on tour when I instructed with Southwind in 1981 & 82 after marching in Atlanta. Good times.
@@DennisJohnsonDrummer yes Memphis 80, 81, 82 and I marched 83 multi-tenors as did Erick, the year we folded after DCI South in Birmingham. I hear members stories of the emotional run you guys made that night. I've also seen video of that performance. Memphis was following in Spirits foot steps by setting new highest score for 1st year corps like Spirit did it's first year. Then Tennessee passed a law banning Bingo which whipped out most of our funding. I was so dismayed I never marched corps again and I retired from teaching a few years ago. Erick went to the Cavaliers and marched snare in 84, aged out there and has written for their front ensemble to this day. I wouldn't trade my drum corps experience for anything. BDE (Blue Devils Entertainment); almost entirely comprised of past and active BD members; one of the quads is a BD instructor; most of the line has DCI and/or high drum titles - some with multiple titles. They’re also the Golden State Warriors drumline.

TONS of amazing experiences, and most of my closest friends have come from these two organizations. I highly recommend going out for an NFL drumline for the experience!

Hell yeah I agree with the line up!!!!!! I'm from Minnesota and I was in drumline and not a lot of people know that there are some incredible drummers and even bands and drum lines. In fact my nephew and his school placed 2nd a couple years back for the national drum core championship.
Several of my staff members are performers with the Skol Line. Most of them have a lot of WGI and DCI marching experience with lines like Broken City, The Bluecoats, and many other top 5 corps/indoor groups. I know that they rehearse at least once per week for a few hours. Almost all of them teach at an indoor group here in the Minnesota circuit known as MPA.
My band teacher is the main instructor for the Minnesota Skol Line. I thought it was cool that he did that, but I’m not a football fan, so I had no idea they were this good of a drum line!
You should definitely do an NBA line list too. I know the one the Orlando Magic has is pretty good and would be interesting to see how they stack up against other lines in the NBA.
Snare drummer in the Tennessee Titans “Blue Crew Drumline” this year. I’m a former drummer for the Detroit Pistons Drumline, so it was a huge change in performing styles. Both great groups.

On the topic of the Falcons Drumline, back when I was VERY young, one of my first ever experiences with a drumline was at a game, the Falcons drumline played a cadence that I now know is SCV's Electric Wheelchair, and I recently saw a vid of them playing it at that game, and I realized the drumline was pretty awesome. Don't know why they replaced those great musicians with high schoolers that play in a COMPLETELY different style
mlk is traditional they high step but they do have allot of streetcred lol we marched the rose bowl parade and the macy’s parade so they aren’t THAT bad they just are highschoolers
Fun fact: my Band Director used to run the Atlanta Falcons Drumline, when it was not high schoolers. Now he runs Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle core, as well as my high school band.
Ty Tha Goat Well by style, I meant that the Old line played with a much tighter interpreted corps style, while MLKs you can definitely consider HBCU instead (Understandably of course, just look at the name of the school)
Former Dline member. The line is run by 2 guys, one of which who used to march Teal Sound back in the day. From my understanding, the Dline was one of the first drum lines (if not the first) in the NFL. While cleanliness is certainly a goal of the line, this sometimes gets lost in the “show” aspect of jamming out in front of thousands of people who couldn’t care less how many notes we rammed into 4 bars. Great line; better memories. The directors are cool guys with a passion for the sport. (Both football and marching percussion.)
I have a friend who marched in DCI for 4 years and auditioned for the Kansas City Chiefs Drumline but only got picked as a backup whereas some other drummers we knew who were not as talented as my friend but knew people involved with the Chiefs Entertainment department, got in.
18:01 This is called Machine by Jon Weber (look him up). I was quite surprised when I heard this because my school drumline played it as well. My school is in Ann Arbor, so playing something associated with the Michigan State drumline was kind of weird.
That Baltimore Ravens Marching Band video was at my school, and I'm in the marching band for that school, the Westminster High School Marching Band. We got to see that performance live, and it was the best marching band performance I've ever seen! I never knew you helped with that, so it makes me super happy to hear!
Regarding Atlanta, let's just say that the front office wanted a drumline more representative of the City of Atlanta than the Suburbs of Atlanta, and I'll leave it at that. Signed, the guy who got to write those two FB posts you showed.
Makes perfect sense. I really admire how often the Falcons try to recognize the talent and empower the communities of Atlanta rather than just commercialize everything. I understand that it's still a business and everything, but I honestly like that it gives recognition to local students and stuff, even if it makes them the "worst" drumline.
@@Tr1sh4Lynn at the time of replacement, the kids were not paid individually at all. A donation was made to the school's music department which cost the team less than paying for professionals. I'm 61 and have been a Viking fan since the early 70s, and I'd love those logos on all of their drums. I have lived in the UK for 20 years now and, I've been to both of the games the Vikings played in London (I was born and raised in Oklahoma, and never had an opportunity to attend a Vikings game...until 2012 when they played the Steelers in London. I had to immigrate to get the chance to attend a Vikings game lol), and The Skol Line was at both games...along with the other teams' Drumlines. I've been to 6 NFL games, and the Drumlines always put on great shows for the fans. Interestingly enough, only 1 Marching Band from the states has ever performed at 1 of the London NFL International Series games, and that was The Ohio St. marching Band. They did their pre-game show during the Bills vs Jags game in 2015, which included their famous Ohio script. Unfortunately for me, I did not attend that game. It was super cool to see professional musicians as a high school drumline, and being able to showcase our best cadences against other high schools and in front of the Bears drumline was a great experience.
What I think would be a great idea? When the 2 teams playing each other only have 🥁 drum lines, the traveling team should bring their 🥁 drum line along. During halftime they should have a "THROW DOWN" on the 50 yard line. 👍🤓♥️
This was awesome. The Broncos Stampede was put together by the same guy who was president of my highschool band and drumline and also heavily involved with the Blue knights. almost all of my instructors and a few friends were on that line haha.

One of my old percussion instructors played quads for the skol line a few years ago
PURR-cushion....Love it!
The eagles line came to our marching day in North Dakota it was epic
This video quickly became "how many NFL drum lines play Double Beat 2000?"
One of my former high school instructors and clinicians is a member of the Chicago Bears drumline, and the whole line came out to a local marching band showcase last year to play with us! It was super cool to see professional musicians as a high school drumline, and being able to showcase our best cadences against other high schools and in front of the Bears drumline was a great experience.
Sad that Blue Thunder isn't higher. I have multiple friends on the line and they're seen as kind of a big deal in this area
Thanks for putting this together! So cool to see the quality of all the lines!
What I think would be a great idea? When the 2 teams playing each other only have 🥁 drum lines, the traveling team should bring their 🥁 drum line along. During halftime they should have a "THROW DOWN" on the 50 yard line. 👍🤓♥️
very good racking video keep up the fun work
you should do this with nba drumlines!
Sarah Ashley I agree with that!
I’m very impressed by the marching ravens every time I see them , makes being at ravens events and games much more epic !
I thought this was FivePointVids and I was gonna say “slow day for the NFL, eh?”
This was awesome. The Broncos Stampede was put together by the same guy who was president of my highschool band and drumline and also heavily involved with the Blue knights. almost all of my instructors and a few friends were on that line haha.
Solid list. Sad about the fate of that ATL line, though. I recall them being pretty nice.
In that Detroit Lions clip bass 4 is my college drumline instructor and bass 5 is my old high school drumline instructor
21:50 Who else heard a little bit of "Latin Lover" in there?
I love what your doing! Positivity and encouraging kids to join and tryout. My son wants to be a marching arts instructor and you are advancing the activity forward in a positive manner...thank you!
Stryke Percussion performed outside the Hard Rock stadium. Maybe Miami will change their minds?
2:44 I was there, my band teacher is the lead snare for the raven's drumline.
Hell yeah I agree
I loved this! Please do a video on the best NBA drumlines!!
Eagles drum line should be #1, by far. Also, they have the best and most accomplished tenor line of all these groups. 👍👍
I know
Word!!
Former Cleveland Browns drumline member here. Fun fact. Downbeat percussion has a branch in Ohio (Buffalo Bills) and sometimes when they are short they will ask guys from Cleveland to perform with the Bills.
Check out scv’s double beat 2002 15:30 😭
Bro it's in the video like 3 times
That Jet's burn at the beginning was beautiful.....absolutely BEAUTIFUL...
