28:19 Sadly, Michael Patterson (head band snare player), who started the Jags D-Line in 2004, passed away yesterday after a heart attack at the young age of 44. I played with Mike in high school and he was a great friend. Visiting him during halftime at Jags game was one of my son’s favorite things to do the last 10 years. Rest in Peace, my friend.
My percussion director is currently apart of the bengals drumline, and plays on the tenors (garrett irwin 23 cavies center snare) and from direct words from him. "The line is rhythm X and the audtion process is just as hard"
I was looking for him specifically because he taught my son's high school drumline and gave him private lessons for a few years. So cool for Eric to call him out by name!
18:05 Yeah we do have a lot of guest drummers and its massive fun! I don't think you recoginzed him 👀but in that clip is Mike Portnoy from bands Dream Theater & Winery Dogs! 🤘That a fun game. Last Sunday we had Ray Luzier from KoRn! I just put up a video yesterday if you are interested. Good job on the video 🎵🎵
Honestly feel like you implied punishment for the HBCU presentation. You sounded very enthused by the falcons line but then gave them really poor scores.
I think he’s basing it off of the “standards” of dci lines and playing hard but clean beats. Overall I think their line was entertaining but they were dirty but execution should’ve fs been higher based on entertainment value.
@@CCDaDon15 Falcons drumline was entertaining, but super dirty in execution. I know someone who is currently in a HBCU snare line, but also marched with a top five DCI drumline this past summer. When the DCI season ended and he went back to his HBCU band, other members of the snare line told him to chill cause he was making them look bad with how clean, precise, and his execution level was off the charts. He had to "Tone it down and just have fun."
@@gunner-qf9eh I still feel like he had categories for that which they could have graded better on based on the entertainment aspect. Plus they had higher social media presences than how they were graded too.
@CCDaDon15 He gave them a perfect 10 in Content, and a 23 out of 30 in Involvement! So he did grade them high from the entertainment standpoint. It was Composition and Execution where they lacked, and that's true. They were extremely dirty, different stick heights, drummers weren't holding sticks the same way, and if you listen carefully, the snares were tuned different from one another LMAO. Again........Entertaining, YES! YES! YES! Clean..........not even close. But they are a show band style drumline, so it's understandable. Comparing corps style to show band is like comparing a Fighter Jet to a Bomber. If I am flying a B1 Lancer, I am not going to expect it to maneuver like a F-22 Raptor. Falcons drumline are AMAZING at what they do...........Entertaining fans.
the percussion caption head at my school’s mb and id plays snare for the g-line and absolutely kills it! she’s a stickler for smiling at the crowd and always tells us ‘if we can smile at the crowd when the giants are losing by 14+, you can smile at the crowd too’
My band director plays for Deep Steel Thunder, and their director often comes in as clinician to our school. Can't wait to show this to both of them and see what their reaction is. A couple of weeks ago our school's drumline had the opportunity to join them on the field for a special "Battle of the Drumlines" event during halftime. It was pretty cool! I'm sad you didn't see a video of the pre-game intro/hype thing they do to walk the players on. Lots of nice guys and amazing players.
I think you need to bring in an HBCU alum to fairly judge Atlanta on performance. I’m no expert, but for show style they looked fine. I’m happy to see women on the Denver line.
I played with the old Falcons drumline before they build the new stadium. It was fun for us as players, but a show-style line is seems much more fun for the fans. Just wish they posted more material!
Liked how you highlighted the crowd enjoying the Saints drumline. 8 years ago, our goal was more simple, groovy beats that fans could enjoy and dance to, vs super technical drum corps licks. Think of a drum circle and a second-line beat type of party.
i enjoyed the video! also for the dallas cowboys you said they had 63 points but if you add up the scores they had 62 and the ravens had a random .5 lol. i dont really care just thought it was funny.
Oh very cool! A bunch of guys I marched with at/knew from Penn State are in the Steelers & Jaguars drumlines... nice to be reminded of what they're up to! EDIT: And the Eagles - Jordan might be the tallest guy in drumming, instantly recognizable (also Cadets 2010-11 I think)
Hi Eric!! I don't know if you saw the first time a told you about this but my drumlines section leader said I can make a cadence for next years season but it has to be really good and I already kind of have an idea of what I want to do but I would love to see a video from you talking about how to make a good high school cadence. It would be quite the endeavor admittedly...but would be cool to see you do something like this for college lines/bands. Maybe go conference by conference over a period of time? As a former drumline member myself love this content regardless. Thanks and keep it up!!
The first snapshots for the Brown's and Bill's, the snare and quad players (respectively) are the same guy named Gabriel! I believe you and him have met a long time ago. He is currently the GA drumline instructor of Kent State University!
Man, the Purrcussion is the only thing good about the Panthers, and they're still only a 69 out of 100? Well at least we got the funny number, Keep Poundin'.
Niner noise is, or at least was when it was formed, a unit fielded by BD Entertainment (a division of the Blue Devils). So cant be surprised to hear some familiar licks. Btw the Ditty version was from 2008 and later.
