my sister just spent $30K on a bathroom remodel and I have to say there is not $5K worth of material in it and the labor doing it was unskilled to say the least. Caulking was their best friend on that job. Now she had water leaks from the exhaust fan roof vent to deal with. the guy has his money and doesn't really want to fix the issue. I told her to call the roofer that put on the roof and have him put the correct vent cap on the roof.
That bathroom before looked terrible, and as usual Mike and his crew and sub-contractors made it right. Great Job ... Mike's son was speechless, the look 😲 on his face was priceless. Congrats,
The debt collector probably bought the debt from the contractor for ten-twenty cents on the dollar, and now they are hounding the customers to make a big profit for themselves. That's the other thing to beware of.
@@jays106 I'm not sure, either. It should be illegal to call your employer, or at your place of employment. Think about it, why would anyone think they can collect a debt from someone who they got fired from their job. That's just stupid.
@@jays106 According to the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) in the USA the debt collector may call you at your place of work. BUT!!! If they are informed that the business does not want them calling or that you dont want them calling your place of work, then they are no longer allowed to call. That is because as others have said, it may affect your employment. If they violate that they are liable to the Federal Trade Commission who enforces the FDCPA.
I would like to see some follw up on the legal aspects of these situations. From a pure construction standpoint, fixing this kind of garbage is a no-brainer. Rip it out and do it right. When the homeowner is stuck with the bill of the original mess, they may not be able to afford to do it right the second time around. Imagine being stuck in a house like that, with no financial way of making it right. . .
Nice to see copper water service piping. We have Pex (here in AZ) to a point in the kitchen, it shifts to copper behind the sink, to the taps. Much better. My old house in the upper Midwest USA had all copper. We replaced ancient (almost completely-filled with minerals) galvanized water piping with copper. The city there has very hard water, btw.
Bro it's not that deep. Nothing wrong with PEX, and copper is actually horrible if you have super hard water because the sediments WILL make it through weak points in the solder.
Years ago we rented a house. I always felt weird about the bathtub. I should've checked the unfinished basement, but I was naive and very busy. We moved on and a few years ago my best friend's son bought the house. Someone had cut through the floor joists to put in the tub. 😮 I had bathed my kids in that tub!!
@@MultiTurbospeed and you would have lost as that would be excessive and the court wouldn't even entertain that you could only sue for what it would cost to have it fixed properly and maybe a small amount over for punitive damages. and if they had insurance that is who would pay if they didn't have it or gave bogus info about insurance you might get a judgement in your favor but collecting is a whole different ballgame as they were probably an LLC and that would be dissolved in an hour and a new one be formed under a new name
If the contractor can put a lien on someone's home due to outstanding debt, and if they can use debt collectors, why would the home owner NOT just sue the contactor for unfinished/neglegent work? Why let them ruin you life even more. You paid thousands and thousands of dollars for work that wasn't completed. That is a breach of contract on THEIR part. Oh wait...Canada.
Plywood is equal to 5 times it's size in regular wood. But you have to run it the length of the timber you are laminating it too. Glued and screwed. It is best to run it between two structural pieces of timber.
I have watched quite a few of these episodes and have noticed some of these people are being screwed and sued by their contractors. Do the producers of this show help them out or steer them in the right direction? At first I thought the show took over the law suits to get some of their money back. However there has never been a fallow up on any of them.
I doubt the show would do that, as it would blow the cost of the show into orbit. I would think they would only take cases easy to verify and substantiate. Getting into a shady legal situation is a pathway to disaster. If you have ever sued any body you would know its very time consuming and expensive. Even if you do win then you will probably have to enforce it, assuming the contractor/builders have the assets.
When a debt collector calls you and when they ask you for your name you don't give it to them and if you don't know who they are ask who they are never meant to own any money over the phone
If only all contractors had the care and the wisdom to make it right not only on the outside but underneath. The people that actually do the work are what really matters. If they don't know what they are doing, it's a total disaster. This couple did do their homework but unfortunately still ended up with just a smooth talker that in the end didn't know how to do the job.
Backstabbing electrical devices is a big NO NO! I’ve had many service calls over the years from these failing and almost causing fires! Not something a professional electrician does
Non issue newer outlets have metal jaws that grab and lock the wire in place that is why the electrician was screwing in the screws it was to lock it. And some outlets have a Wago style connectors and are back stab only.
This is the Canadian version of this old house hope Mike makes it as long be great to see the two do collaboration video
Had a good giggle at all the taps and shower heads in the shower.

The homeowners need to sue the contractor for breach of contract and should have contacted the police for harassment.
What I would of done I would of sued for a few million dollars and then demo the whole house and rebuilt a new one
