- Successfully got a Chrysler 318 V8 mated to a Jeep Cherokee AW4 transmission. So now it's time to shove it in the jeep and see if I can make it all work out. Lucky the Jeep previously had a body lift so fitment should be relatively easy!! Enjoy!! Previous episode's below.

Man I have a 98 tj with the 2.5 want to do the v8 swap but it’s about 10000 or more for a shop I can drop off my Jeep next sept if u want another Jeep to do a v 8 swap lol love the channel
I'm digging the swap. I put the drivetrain and axles out of a early 80's wagoneer in my 97 XJ. 360 from 79 Cherokee punched 40 over with Lunati Cam... its down right now had the transmission rebuilt and its just sitting at the moment.

Idk about a aw4. But I had a few 4l80 swapped cars and would read incorrectly on the trans dip stick. Finally found fluid level was 1/4” above the pan gasket to transmission. Took the pan off and manually adjusted the dip stick to that. Just food for thought.

Keep up the sweet content, there's money in wranglers too 🙃. Also there's two switched 12v wires behind the glove box near the fuse panel that are for accessories, they should be labeled with white tags.

I had to chuckle a little bit. You were looking for constant power that didn’t shut off with starting. And I noticed the hood light doesn’t shut off.
Aw4 with no computer starts in 2nd gear you need that computer behind the kick panel
Keep posting this so he will see it he dose read the comments. I bought a one of one hat off his merch website and went to the most recent video he put out asking for him to sign the hat and he did
Pretty sure a aw4 with no computer starts in 1st, and 2nd is electronically controlled?... mechanical 1st and 3rd, 2nd and 4th are electric?
@ayejimmay6547 this is all I can tell you for sure I have a 92 cherokee and I did the swap to grand cherokee master cyclinder and I got the swap mostly done and I wanted to test it and so backed it out of the shop and but it in drive and it was it was either in 2nd or 3rd rembered the trans computer behind the kick panel which was on shop floor shut down the jeep went and grabbed it installed it and it took off in 1st gear after that again and all fine
@@jeremyhanna3852 ahhh I see. In the D/3 position, the auto will be in 3rd. If you pull back to 1-2 itll be in first, makes sense. Dex did a video about it, how to manual wire up the aw4 so that 2nd is on a switch. Makes for great fun when wheeling!
@ayejimmay6547 oh OK might have saw that video but I might have been slightly Inebriated and don't rember exactly how to wire it

Love your content. Real quick thought for you on this build or for future reference. instead of hacking 2 wire harnesses to think its one, why not pull the interior wire harness out of the zj and fab it to fit the tj dash and clusters? I'm curious is all

8:48 did u knoe u can take a part a 20volt Dewalt battery and use the batterys for them harbor fright lights? Vape batters will wirk to. Just get a meter to find out witch end is positive and negative

I’ve got a 93 grand wagoneer with a 318 and at4, would that engine trans set up not have worked? I’m just curious as to why do all the mating?
Dex I know you’re already doing a big fancy, all shiny, nice & new kit for ur 5.0 stroker kit, but I’d love to get together with ya to do a budget stroker engine. Searching for such a build is how I stumbled across ya several months ago. We both know it’s a hot ticket for the 4L. Not that you’re look’n for content specifically to drives views I don’t think, but being completely honest & selfish -I- want one for our ‘06! 😅

I Would like a V8 in my Grand Cherokee BUT it adds about 260 lbs.
Will the 318 changed to carb and auto trans and transfer case out of the WJ Cherokee work in the tj? Or is the trans computer controlled?
I have the same car and I am working on but 5.7 hemi in it do you think I need to swap the diff or I can keep it
