Roter Wedding (1929, English Lyrics)

This original version was performed on theater stage, later versions were adjusted for performances in other venues. Written by Erich Weinert in 1929, composed by Hanns Eisler. It references the events of 1st-3rd May of 1929 ("Blutmai", bloody may) when at least 32 civilians were killed and 198 wounded by police during unauthorized may day demostrations organized by the communist party of germany(KPD). 47 police officers were wounded, around 11.000 rounds were fired by them. Police claims that the protestors were using firearms were later disproven, the only police officer with a gunshot wound had suffered it several days earlier. The RFB, Roter Frontkämpferbund (Red front soldiers union) was prohibited as a response to the alleged provocation of violence by the KPD. No police officer faced any charges, there was no official investigation of the police violence.

Just for the understanding, Wedding here is a name of the district in Berlin. It has nothing to do with the wedding in its meaning, that would be Hochzeit in German.

Remember the reason this seems so powerful is because you see people wearing cool uniforms together with grand music. The aestethic is important in politics, It's the reason the Nazis were able to appeal to people, because not only did they promise a solution to economic hardship, give a scapegoat for all the problems, but also wore splendid looking uniforms marched in collumns and sang powerful songs. If you remove all of that the nazis are just evil people that want to murder and enforce capitalist conservative values on people with military force but because they had good aestethics people ignorantly sided with them and still do to this day for that same reason.

According to German Wikipedia there exists an audio recording from 1929 by the Agitprop-group "Der rote Wedding" who used this song as the overture of their performances.
I haven't tracked down that source (it's a book) and I haven't heard the original recording either so I can't 100% verify it but I think it's reasonable to assume that this is an upload of that recording.
