There was also a very good documentary about him on Netflix a few years ago. They interviewed some of his neighbors in CA, NYC, Boston and childhood friends in Germany. Robert Stack was awesome! Dang I miss that guy. He was absolutely perfect for the Unsolved Mysteries TV show. His voice. The trench-coat. The creepy music. It was gold!
The first that chapter I watched was while being bed bound with undiagnosed gallstones. It was winter in the UK and the first video I only remember started on a snowy scene in a city somewhere in America. I luvved the crisp quality of the picture and the comfort of the snow, along with the relaxing music. That was over 2 years ago. Mike's is my favourite true crime channel 👍🏻😊
This story doesn’t demonstrate how crazy this guy is as much as how absolutely effortless it was to get a job in the 70s and 80s. Today, you can walk into an investment firm with the actual credentials and know-how and you only have a tiny chance of getting a job.
I recently became a licensed insurance agent, had to submit fingerprints for an FBI background check, and then do two more with my company and one of our big carriers. And I don’t even handle money, lol. Had to submit my driver’s license, my SS card, college transcripts, you name it. It’s crazy how lax it used to be.
It was easy to forge and falsified documents then. Now everything is online and digital and can be looked up in a matter of seconds. I think people also valued integrity to some extent more back in those days.
Exactly! Just like the way Kimberly Kessler operated - for some reason, if a person was deceased, you could "steal" their name, birth date and social security number because the fact that they were deceased often wasn't registered at their place of birth; it wasn't common knowledge until a few books were published which described in great detail how to go about it.

Dang, so a swimming pool pretty much solved an old case! Cops gotten pretty lucky on that one. Thank gosh this guy is out of the streets. He seems a very dangerous person. A very peculiar criminal. He is an opportunistic killer. Not the typical serial killer who enjoys killing. But the type who would kill if pushed into a corner. Not sure which is more dangerous. But makes me wonder how many are out there. How many are getting away with murderer in places where people don't really build pools. So many wondering thoughts right now. Great video Mike!👏

I've been watching Mike almost from the start and since the first video I've always hit the like button before even watching the video. You are such a wonderful, engaging storyteller. Thank you ❣️
I think another good "conman" to cover would be the Mark Hoffman case from Utah. The guy was so good at forging documents that he fooled the feds and the mormon leadership. He ends up responsible for two bombing deaths, two seriously injured one of them being himself (mark hoffman). I think your storytelling style would be perfect for that case.

I was born in 1981 my mother used to watch unsolved mysteries religiously. That music traumatized me I think. As a 41 year old man is still sins shivers down my spine. I watched once with my son although I waited till he was a little bit older than I was when I had to watch , even though the intro was really outdated and obviously masks and make up the pictures of foggy old roads in the middle of nowhere we’re still pretty terrifying
@@danis4054 I grew up on rescue 911 and America’s Most Wanted. My dad was a police sergeant for 33 years and loved all these shows including cops lol. The intros don’t scare me - except for AMW - he would have us watch it at like age 7 and it was always on at night and so after each episode I would be so afraid to walk my hallway for the toilet when everyone else was asleep!
Right? From what I recall from the book I read on this, Linda worked as a clerk in a sci-fi bookstore, and John “did something with computers,” though didn’t seem to make much money, hence why they bunked with DiDi. Neither spouse had the skills, education, or employment background to attain such jobs as the ones they “left” to take on.
As an adult Male pushing 40 the unsolved mysteries music still terrifies me... and I work alone in a big, old building at night, so I'm not easily scared.

Read "The Man in the Rockefeller Suit." It's a good book about this Narcissist and the lavish lifestyle he lived.
Hit me up 👆👆👆👆👆
There was also a very good documentary about him on Netflix a few years ago. They interviewed some of his neighbors in CA, NYC, Boston and childhood friends in Germany. He also had a huge collection of modern art that he claimed he had gotten from a Rockefeller family member that would have been worth millions, had it been real. He even fooled a neighbor that worked in the art business. Very fascinating story.
I just suggested this very thing! Received the book as a gift, and it’s - IMO - one of the best non-fic I’ve ever read.
The way Mike tells the story with facial expressions and all just separates him from the other true crime youtubers for me, absolute goat
Evolved so openly too, no fake, no dishonesty, just our lovely Moikey. 🍀👋👋👍🎵🇬🇧
I was just about to say something similar. As soon as I get the notification I pause the thing I am watching and watch Mike. Great entertainment about a subject I like. 100%
JCS still the goat.
Mike is deffinetly top tier tho.
Haha his character is what makes the stories can't imagine YT without em
I agree and love that he no longer has to say life insurance, the little dance tune tells all 🤣
Thank you for covering great content, Mike! Keep up the hard work, you kick ass!
Thanks Mark!
Absolutely! That’s why we love ya Mike 🤩💙
I almost was bummed when this came out because I know the story well, so I didn't watch right away, but I should've know Mike has a special way of telling even well-known cases. Slam dunk!
Yes. Always a "take" worth hearing! Thanks!
I find myself watching all the cases I've seen covered by other people, because I love Mike's delivery and sense of humor.
I will say I really miss the show “unsolved mysteries” and it’s funny how young I was and it was a weekly thing to sit and watch that show with my mom!! I remember some of them scared me to the core!!
The intro music alone ruined so many nights of sleep when I was a kid. Omg terrifying
Robert Stack's voice was creepy and comforting at the same time. Unsolved Mysteries was my Saturday night as a kid
@@CBrown86 😂 yep and my mom and dad would always tell me not to run off in crowds or I’ll end up on that show lol
@@GrainneMhaol agree!! It’s really soothing now but as a kiddo I’d hear it and get nervous 😂 I think my mom made me watch it to scare the crap out of me!! We need another show like that for kids today lol
Lol right?! The new reboot just isn't the same
Robert Stack was awesome! Dang I miss that guy. He was absolutely perfect for the Unsolved Mysteries TV show. His voice. The trench-coat. The creepy music. It was gold!
He was a damn fine actor too, I see him pop up in old movies sometimes. I love him.
I know..I immediately got nostalgic hearing that!

That business card though. "Look at that subtle colouring. The tasteful thickness."
This case was so interesting, thanks for telling us the story!
My God is that a watermark.😋
"That's bone. And the lettering is something called Silian Rail."
Let's see Paul Allens card.
Literally watched that yesterday
This story doesn’t demonstrate how crazy this guy is as much as how absolutely effortless it was to get a job in the 70s and 80s.
Today, you can walk into an investment firm with the actual credentials and know-how and you only have a tiny chance of getting a job.
When everything was on paper I think anyone could become or kill anyone they liked with minimal chance of being caught.
I think that's the plot of a Will Smith movie
Thanks Mike! We all Love You too💗
That Chapter and MrBallen are my favorite 2 TH-camrs. Y'all are great at keeping the viewers interested for sure 😃
I love Mike. But Mr. Ballen gets paid by the word. He makes a 10 minute story into an hour long boring snore 💤. Ballen’s stories are nothing but adjectives.

Crazy case!! If the new homeowner hadn't decided on that pool, those bones likely would have never been found. If he killed Linda though, I wonder why he didn't bury them together. How devastating for her family that she's never been found. 💔
Right?? I shudder thinking of how many corpses lie beneath suburban homes, never to be discovered.
@@WobblesandBean 😳
The only reason it makes sense burying the bodies in different locations is so if one was found he could blame the murder on the one still missing.
I think he took her somewhere else and raped, killed and buried her

It was sad to hear the mother be referred to as an "alcoholic" and that's all, it wasn't even relevant to that description he was giving. My point is that I'm a recovering addict/alcoholic (2 years 10 months 31 days) and I hope when I die that when ANYBODY talks about me, they don't just refer to my addiction as who I am.
Yeah, I thought that, too. It's sad that that was her "identity ".
Awesome! Keep it up, man!
Mike's usually very sympathetic. Maybe some details got cut for time. Or maybe that brief description was meant to explain why the mom had no idea where her son went 🤔

I hope the pool building thing was a joke. It's not a common way to find dead bodies :)
Oh Mike...if you even knew how happy you have made me. The Unsolved Mysteries nod, and especially the Robert Stack add...just beyond makes my day. My life, in fact.

Ohhhhhh! I don’t know this one! Gonna have to check that story out! I must say that mike makes the con men stories interesting because the news only ever gives facts, so I’ve rarely felt the need to look into most of them. This was a good one

Same year here , and that cameo in baseketball by stack was awesome lol
I'm 42 and I feel the same way about that intro music 😂
Haha same age, and same feeling here! How weird that music affected a whole generation!
How do y'all feel about the Rescue 911 show/music? That one scared me too 😂😂
@@danis4054 I grew up on rescue 911 and America’s Most Wanted. My dad was a police sergeant for 33 years and loved all these shows including cops lol. The intros don’t scare me - except for AMW - he would have us watch it at like age 7 and it was always on at night and so after each episode I would be so afraid to walk my hallway for the toilet when everyone else was asleep!
If I told my parents I'd been selected to go to Europe to work on a top-secret US govt program, they'd ask me when I tripped & fell on my head!
