I'd like to think both Jakob and Felicia + Silas and Kaze are Corrins retainers. Even tho Jakob and Felicia are from Nohr, they're the only units to be ALWAYS on your side, no matter what you do, unlike Silas and Kaze being fought as enemies first and recruited later in their respective opposite route. All 4 of their personal skills are centered on/work only on Corrin too, so they're absolutely their retainers. If we take into account all 3 routes, Azura can have Shura as a retainer, but that's it for her. Corrin is hogging everyone unfortunately
I married him to Mozu to get a Quick Draw/Strong Riposte combo and also had the Sol/Luna pair, it’s quite effective. Also Sophie looks fantastic with dark hair Silas in general is very versatile and has a Swiss army build considering he can get almost any wife he pleases Also when is the Jakob video because holy shit his unique level mechanic leaves so many options to build with half the grind it takes for everyone else. Bad at Life did a video about him in birthright but I’m interested in your take since he’s a solid homie with you as long as you’re female
Note that Silas' personal skill activates anywhere on the map, so long as Corrin is under half health. They don't need to be paired up. This gives him comparable Strength and Defense to Effie in early-game Conquest, allowing him to go Sicko Mode. Also, it's probably been said before, but I wouldn't discount what units (particularly Fates units) gain through marriage. Paladin isn't great, but Silas has inherent Sol access and the stat spread to be an incredible general combat ninja in the lategame, which is huge for his viability. I agree with not taking potential as a parent into account - like you say, it's not a part of what the unit themself brings go the team. But potential reclassing options theough friendship and marriage is a big part of the Fates meta, and what makes good units good (such as, from a Conquest perspective, long-term Selena, Effie, and of course, Silas). I would consider classes gained this way to be something the unit themself is capable of doing by using a resource, like a stat booster. Alternatively, you could approach it from the other direction and consider the classes the unit is able to grant to others as one of their inherent traits, but that seems less clean to me. The only other option is to ignore marriage and the impact it has on the parent units in Fates entirely, which to me is sort of like discounting what a unit is able to do with a stat booster, forged weapon, rally, pair-up partner, or even an investment of experience. It's a resource you invest/an effort you make to give them a niche beyond what they have at base. It's important. That said, this is your sleepover and you get to choose the movie, so if you're unswayed by my points, so be it. I will still enjoy the content.
I will consider this for future content, but I don’t want to make promises due to the amount of extra time it might consume in the ‘research’ phase of these videos
Effie has more str and her personal lets her deal more dmg, plus she uses lances which are stronger than swords and she can use an iron lance and he can't, and sol is unreliable
@@mysmallnoman All true, strictly speaking. Effie has 2 more Str than Silas at base, and with an Arthur pair up can activate Puissance for extra (3) damage against most enemy types. She also has 4 more Def thanks to Defense +2, so Vow of Friendship Silas has 4 more effective strength (due to the +3 from Elbow Room) and 1 less effective defense. And while the Bronze Lance is excellent, having the option to use the Iron Lance at base for more damage is an advantage Effie has. Given all these factors, I feel comfortable calling Vow of Friendship Silas' Str and Def "comparable" to Effie. And of course, he has 3 Speed, 3 movement, and weapon triangle control over her. Sol is unreliable, but it can help out when enemy phasing in certain builds. Counterattack enough times, and the chance to proc Sol at least once can become relatively reliable.
I remember when I first played Birthright (my second ever FE (the first was Radiant Dawn)) I spent so long trying to figure out how to recruit him. I thought if I killed him, he would die and there was some way to trigger a Talk Convo since he was so clearly recruitable. I didn't realize that ending the map would do the trick ha ha. One of my favorite characters of all time.
His easy access to Sol alongside me marrying him to Corrin who I gave Ninja as her talent pretty much single-handedly beat all of late-game conquest with Sol + Master Ninja. Might be my favorite unit in Conquest for that
One of my go to strategies for conquest except I use Kaze Friendship to achieve it. Probably a bit more investment than corrin marriage but it does free up the corrin marriage slot for other slots which is also great for a lot of units. That or giving corrin instant wyvern access instead of relying on Friendship with Camilla Beruka or Percy Marriage.
@@cloudy978 Yeahh I could’ve done that but I just didn’t feel like using Kaze lol In retrospect that’s definitely smarter I just went into the game blind and didn’t want to waste my Ninja heart seal class. I also had no interest in Kaze after playing Birthright. Going in blind definitely hurt me there haha
Buddy it is so late right now Now I've only ever played Conquest because my city did not have the special edition, and I've only beaten it once because I hate the wind map: My best ever Silas build was wyvern lord/berserker baruka with a samurai corrin who was stat blessed and either percy or arthur as backup. You could keep corrin around 50% or less health meaning vantage and astra get to be a fun gamble, and silas in late game was literally the head of my army eventually outshining/matching beruka in attack power and bulk to lead as the vanguard of the army. P.S. Maxed str/spd master ninja Kaze with all his skills + berserker Camilla was a machine
I'm pretty sure vow of friendship gives the ±3 as long as Corrin is below half, regardless of if they're paired up or not. Makes it super fun to make a tank with that + all the damage reduction auras in the game
I love him so much, when i was younger i even had a crush on Silas but he cant s support with male corrin :( Watching Zolan's conquest optimizations made me realise Silas's potential, so much so that Vow of Friendship was almost always active. Hes sooooo strong, especially with Camilla as a pair up
Silas is a funny unit as because of his availability in all routes, he can essentially become anything. As for Silas builds, technically meta is sol ninja or make him swordmaster to fix speed, but I always thought that was too boring, too easy. Now something like Dark Knight Silas like I did my last playthrough, definitely not amazing but very funny and actually does some work (w/ Malefic aura, defender, elbow room, heartseeker, and shelter). I think next time I play I wanna try butler Silas and see if I can make that work as well haha
LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO LETS GO!!!!! MY BOY GOT HIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!! THATS MY GUY RIGHT THERE!!!! hey wait his hair isn't weird anyway i cant really say what my BEST silas build is but in my current playthru of comquest ive been building him as a supportive unit for my corrin. currently hes a hero right now and he's been doing quite well at it. i think i want the skills mostly and i MIGHT switch him back to great knight later... unfortunately with access to my castles online features gone that kinda hinders my more fun ideas but. oh well! we make due. also hes like my wife or something
Silas being a boss in revelation and therefore have stats comparable to one just make him fantastic when insta Promoted after he joins serving as a mini Xander t
I also do not like his yee-yee ahh haircut! I also dislike how he forces himself into my army introducing myself as his best friend when my Corrin doesn't even recall him
The most overrated unit in conquest. Also his personal doesn't require any pair up. Corrin just needs to be at half health. Best Silas build: benchwarmer
In my personal headcanon, I always love the idea of Silas and Kaze being Corrin's true retainers
Reject Maids/Butlers
Embrace Ninjas/Cavs
Having a retainer from each nation fits Corrin quite a bit
I'd like to think both Jakob and Felicia + Silas and Kaze are Corrins retainers. This is why I tell my friends that Silas is always the best unit. Not that he’ll solo the game, but he’s the definition of Ol’Reliable
Very true, he helped simplify my Hard Conquest and Lunatic Revelations run
Silas is the ultimate homie. He always got a spot in my starting lineup
I married him to Mozu to get a Quick Draw/Strong Riposte combo and also had the Sol/Luna pair, it’s quite effective. Also Sophie looks fantastic with dark hair

Not to mention in birthright his base weapon ranks are quite insane I believe C in both lances and swords which is amazing.
