For me I went with Newage, sure Magic Square is more accurate but they just look fake to me, Newage has amazing paint, and I'm in love with the squashy little vans :) If you're looking for extreme cartoon accuracy, go with Magic Square, but Newage just has way more charm.
Great review/comparison! Beyond the obvious NA paint and tolerance advantages, NA has better face/heads. I love the Magic Square body sculpts.. but their bots look like fancy erasers with that "plastic". I collect NA
I usually prefer NA but for Rachet I went with Magic Square. It’s a much better looking design, even if it’s a panel-y frustration to play with in alt mode, it’s a better design. The other times I chose MS over NA were for Megatron and Shockwave.
glad we got 2.0 versions of these. i hated those shoulder sections. they never sat flat on mine and the heads kept falling back. mine are on their way to me now
Like the look of Magic Square but the plastic is so cheap I just cannot bring myself to buy them. You just can't compare the quality of the two so Im willing to over look the chunky forearms, because everything else is spot on.
Crazy to me that v1 newage still has the best alt mode. Magic square and newage v2 both look bad in van mode to me. And i prefer newage’s proportions and paint so its an easy pick for me! Loving both sets though, think its awesome to see two different takes on the same character.
Honestly, i have magic square newer release of ironhide that has more paint on it and ill pick up newage v2 ratchet instead of magic square to experience the mold and ratchet being smaller than ironhide also works for me
I like that the NewAge figures are smaller, but I like the cartoon accuracy of the Magic Square models. Usually, I’m a NewAge fanboy. In this case, I think I have to give it to Magic Square. As for me, I’m taking the chief way out. I’m sticking with the Hasbro Core Class versions with 3D printed upgrade kits. I am only investing in NewAge for figures that I know Hasbro won’t do properly in Core Class like Grimlock, Skyfire, Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Reflector, the Insecticons, etc.
For me is MS for both, these are both larger bots and the size is perfect, the alt mode albeit not important is far superior and I like the faces and style of the MS on both. The weapons are small to coincide with G1 which is fine as Ironhide is a brawler and Ratchet repairs things. I like when you throw in the price points at the end to give the buyers an idea of the difference there as well which I believe you di on the Shockwave video. Love these videos and keep up the excellent work!
I have MS versions of ratchet and iron hide and they are awesome; YES they have a lot of tabs and folds but it is a fun transformation and actually not over engineered! MS versions have sloother legs and arms without all those folding parts like NA

Do you think that now that New Age have redone their Ironhide/Ratchet and Bumblejumper, that they'll redo the previous carbots as well? I suspect that they redid these guys to scale better with Prime, but I don't really know, that's just a guess.
@@DeluxeBaldwin absolutely. I’m just trying to avoid buying a bunch of stuff and then finding out they’re doing it all again, like I did when I spent a thousand dollars one week buying MP and hearing that various companies were doing ALL of those figures again the week the box was delivered.
They only won on account of accessories, paint and materials. MS are really great as well. It's why I got both. I said it really matters what you're going for. Toon or toy. So yeahhhh
