What an excellent and entertaining review. Thank you again for the time and effort you put into your posts. I have a 2019 V4S. No rational person should buy one. Especially a 64 year-old like me. But it brings unbridled pleasure both on the road and in the garage (I can't resist waxing and polishing it at every opportunity). Fortunately, I do a lot of bicycling so the Ducati feels like a leather sofa by comparison to my pedal bike. I have owned quite a few bikes in my time (and also own a 1250 GS), and the V4S is my favourite by far.

I briefly tested a V2 and a 2019 V4S before going with my 2020 RSV4 1100 Factory. The one thing I think the V2 is not good for is comfort. The seating position and bars are even more track focused I found. The bars are lower, the pegs felt higher, and I definitely felt more stretched out on the V2. Also, I really don't like the shock on the V2 butting up against your left knee, and like the V4, heat will be an issue underneath the seat. Interested to hear what you'll have to say about it as you're a bit taller than I am. The V4S seating position I found was a bit more upright and a bit better for the road for me. Also wasn't a fan of the 180 rear tire on the V2. It made it feel like a super middleweight than a proper 1L superbike. However, both the V2 and V4S are gorgeous bikes, and you can't deny that.

I just love the sense of personality you get with more “difficult” road bikes. I have an R1M at the moment and it has its road flaws, BUT it just makes me appreciate having the opportunity to own and ride one that much more.
I am looking into selling my R1M for a V4s coming up, and this was an excellent review! Thanks Mate!👌🏽🏍💨

I'd be interested in what its like in temps >30°. My 1299S, despite a number of anti heat modifications, is torture to the point of unbearable. It saps your energy and tires you out. With modern leathers crotch areas being that stretchy panel stuff, it can hurt quite badly at times. Esp if the heat approaches 36°C. Like it can on the continent. Up to 30 and its bareable, but once that temp rises...its a free vasectomy. You'd ejaculate vapour.

LordQuorn I have the 2019 model, I think the lines looks cleaner and sexier than the 2020s. The front part looks ‘ fatter ‘ when u sit on the new model and look down because of the wings and gills

Nice one chopsy - as you know I'm a huge Panigale fan and recently had the V2 (and have my own 899 of course). Really glad to hear your conclusions are very similar to my own - in fact I made a video 2 weeks ago (which won't be published until late December) comparing my 899 to the new V2 and some of the things I said are virtually word for word the same as you said here about the V4 - great minds and all that!! Only thing I disagree with is that I find it excellent as a road bike.....but by the sounds of it you never tried the original 1199 or 1299 which truly were beasts on the road. I think you'll love the V2.......enjoy!

    • @bsmukler
      @bsmukler 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

I agree regarding road use. I’ve owned variants of the 1299 and V4. I love both and enjoy the different characteristics. I rode a V4S on a 3,400 mile road trip, through hot and cold conditions and rain and wind storms, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tires are confidence inspiring in the wet and even in cooler weather (snow on the road side). The engine and exhaust heat are not a real problem if you wear leathers or riding jeans with motorcycling or biking under layers, and riding at highway speeds helps (along with using the tank and your core muscles) alleviate pressure on your hands and wrists. My takeaway was that I would gladly ride that bike anywhere (well, not off road). The engine and exhaust notes are addictive, and it’s a new thrill every morning when you see the bike and start her up for another day’s travels. Well done Ducati!

My choice was one of these or the 1100 RSV4, I went for the RSV4 at £18k, plenty of carbon akro exhaust, the noise etc etc. For me it was hard to justify £7k more for a bike with no carbon, needed an exhaust etc etc. Granted the V4s is the better looking bike but not £7k better looking. Thanks for the reviews chops.... always a good source of information to help with bike decision making.

    Hi Champ
Great video again, 100% agree looks wise, BEAUTIFUL BIKE
I had the bwm 1000rr msports and looks dont come close, not even the new M that looks like a christmas tree I think
I ordered a 21 built and complied just in case they change, update or add anything, as you said lacking - fuel gauge, heated grips, criuse to it , I contacted Ducati and asked the question and the reply sorry we dont give that information out 😢 no cardon is a bit sad as you said
But I ordered heaps of carbon from German and the quality is 100% BETTER than whats out there
ATTENSION to detail there is nothing on the market that comes close
Instead of glueing you bolt it on And even has heat shield lining on the inside even FELT on the edges
Im going to do a video on the quauity when it arrives hopefully it will help people get nicer stuff Shame but he only does crbon for ducati

Good to hear about the quickshifter but would be useful to hear how it stands up long term. I had a 1299s a few years back and it failed twice within the first 2 years warranty period and was one of the reasons that prompted a change back to s1000rr territory.
That said still a stunning looking bike and an occasion to ride every time and certainly a special feeling riding Ducati’s. Collected some tickets from a station on mine a few years back and as I took my time getting my things together a bloke in a nearby car asked me if I was going any time soon as his wife and himself were waiting for me to hear it start up!!

    • @jameskalas16
      @jameskalas16 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@allnighterist yeah sure. I found it way too uncomfortable compared to the Aprilia. The chassis is definitely set up for Italian tracks not Uk roads.... waaay too stiff.... made me loose loads of confidence as the bike felt numb and a bit disconnected. This was improved by upgrading the tyres, probably would have benefitted from tweaking the suspension too.
The bike was unbearably hot in anything above 20’C ambient temperature and the exhaust was irritating on anything above a 30 mile ride (I had the underbelly Akra’s). The shotgun Akrapovic would have been better.
Running costs (servicing & insurance) were far far higher than the Aprilia too.
The first time I got on the Aprilia it just felt right. The Chasis is leagues ahead in terms of feel/flexibility. It was far more comfortable and less wristy as the tank is wider and naturally puts you in a position to take a bit of weight off your wrists. It also doesn’t get hot. Makes a better noise imho and has better electronics/features.
The RSV4 RF is just a better bike than the 959. You can also get one with only a few miles on the clock for the same price as a new 959. It presents better value and I enjoy riding it more, although arguably it’s not as desirable to most as it’s not red and doesn’t have Ducati on the tank haha.

I have a 2021 Panigale V4 (North American Spec) and the heat was not an issue even with riding jeans. Of course you can feel it, but it's not uncomfortable unless your legs are right beside the cylinders. New for this year; is the throttle side controls is the heated grips button, and the loss of the daylight driving lights button on the clutch side. I assume this is handled through the computer menue.
My buddy in his V2 complains of heat, but I don't know why mine is different. Maybe the tank pads I use keep my knees/legs away from the hot zones. I also have a Fullsix CF heat shield for the under seat exhaust bend. Zero heat under the bum.
I have the SP version and it's bonkers. It's my dream bike.

I tried the V4s and the new fireblade sp rrr. And in my opinion the gixer done it for me power everywhere and for the price no brainer.

Heyy, what is your opinion about reliability when it comes to the motor itself and electronics? I'm looking to get a used 2018 bike and wanted to get an idea of long term reliability

I park my Ducati Scrambler next to one of these here in south of France, it is stunning but the owner told me he can’t do long trips as too uncomfortable and short trips in town you cook you nuts, especially in summer. The scrambler does that too but this is next level spud burning.

Truly beautiful machine, i think in a similar vein its such a monster you need to ride it hard to really enjoy what its capable of, I'll stick to my Superduke just pure fun all day

    Another great review Chopsy.
Can you get a ride on the new 2022 Panigale V4. With the changes and styling it looks even sharper and keen to see a road test on this new model. I really don’t think you need all the toys the S offers for the road
so the standard V4 would bring the cost of ownership a tad closer too! It has to be the sexiest looking bike on the market IMO.

I've got the original model,it's a phenomenal bike,it's borderline comical how easy and practical it is to ride, you can get around 50 m.p.g. even riding moderately,it has Italian character and quirks if not quite like the older twins, the power is phenomenal, but as you say,it can get you out of trouble but it can hurtle you into trouble if you treat the bike and road with no respect.

One of there team riders, has what looks like flat track bars, that could help with reach problems. Big bonus feature with road speeds is it turns🙊😱😂😂

G'day Mr Chops. Very professional video, nice one. This is a beautiful machine and it should be in
your lounge room to drool over.I'd be afraid to ride it on the road because of getting stone chips. Love it.

@@LambChopRides Well I've had my eye on a RcV213-S since they came out ;-) But seeing how it took me 7 years of asking my wife to let me get a RC51 (something about house Mortgage lol) It may take a bit longer to get. ;-P
