  • Having been fortunate enough to borrow a Ducati Panigale V4s for several weeks I've been able to really get to know the bike in depth. In this video I show what it's like to ride the bike in various riding conditions on different types of road as well as discuss the cost of ownership of such a machine. To finish I summarise with the pros and cons that I have found out...if you're interested in the 2019 Panigale V4s, stay tuned!
    Many thanks to Ducati UK for making this review possible.

    As an owner of a 1199s, I've done endless research on the heat issue. It stems from the coolant pump barely circulating coolant when the bike is coasting or at low revs. The pump was designed to be most efficient when the engine is under high loads on track. I actually can't fault Ducati for taking this design route.

    • @baabaablacksheep6693

      Figures... it's a superbike after all, built for the track not the streets.

      My 1198 is the same,it quickly gets hot and bothered in town and kicks out a lot of heat.

    • @freedeworld
      @freedeworld 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Graham Smith wouldn’t it be programmable if it’s a matter of cooling? Water pump and fan trigger temp stuff?

    • @grahamsmith2022
      @grahamsmith2022 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@freedeworld it's doesn't "overheat",it's a Ducati characteristic,they're known for running hot in town and low speed,they throw out a lot of heat,the temperature gauge might read higher than a Japanese bike but they're not in the red zone, as you say the fan kicks in when the temperature does get a bit too high but nothing to worry about,it soon comes down again.

    • @RyanMcIntyre
      @RyanMcIntyre 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@freedeworld It's not a setting as much as the engineering of the cooling system. You have to make design compromises, a system that flows enough GPH (or LPH in the rest of the world) to cool at low speed and low RPM would flow too much to cool efficiently at high speeds/high RPM. The water needs to be in the radiator long enough to radiate heat to the atmosphere, you can't escape physics.

    Re lubing/adjusting the chain: because it has a single sided swingarm, getting it on a paddock stand is a doddle, and adjusting the chain is easy peasy, as one can't get the wheel out of line. I haven't done the chain on one of these, but reckon it's much the same as it was on my 916 many years ago. Thanks for a really good review, as usual.

    I've traded a 959 (which I owned for 4 years) for a V4, the standard bike without the Ohlins. Very easy to ride, compared to the other twin superbike Ducati's I've had. Yes they are expensive, then you are getting something with out standing build quality. I wanted to say thank you TMF, for your review here. It helped with the buying decision.

    Insurance is an interesting point here. I certainly agree with TMF about being indicative. I looked at a Panigale V4 end of 2019 (eventually bought a 2019 Honda Fireblade due to £). Insurance quote for the V4 as about same as TMF; circa £1300 for the year fully comprehensive.
    I'm in a better financial position now, so am fortunate enough to be considering a V4 again, but as a 3rd bike alongside the Fireblade and my Ducati Monster S2R. Insurance quote is now £545 for the V4. That being said, my circumstances have also changed; I'm now 30 years old whereas I 28 back then, I'm now married, and also a homeowner too. Things like this make an enormous difference here in the UK.

    Valid point about the insurance TMF. Insurance use to be the first thing you checked out before buying your new pride and joy but it seems nowadays it’s the thing that buyers do after they have placed their order and arranged the handover.
    The best (worse) example of this is the issues that BMW owners have had with insuring the R1200GS Rallye. The vast majority of insurance companies don’t recognise the model even though it has been around a while now. The nearest they get to is the R1200GSA Rallye.
    That one is worth checking out on line to see just how many people had issues with that.

    Jesus that’s ridiculous insurance.
    I’ve had full A licence in Ireland since 07. I’m 40, been off bikes for 6 years. Lost all no claims bonus and it’s costing €850. The Irish market is usually ridiculous compared to the UK.
    I did do a rider skill assessment (axa insurance assessment to see how good a driver you are) got a grade 2. So that helped but still, huge difference.

    Enjoyed your review, I've got a base model and it's an amazing bike, it is flawed though, it hates being ridden around town as it has a horrible,grabby clutch and gets STUPIDLY hot!, for a trackday or a blast around the countryside though what a bike, only other thing is it doesn't sound as good as the RSV4 Factory it replaced in my case.

      Yes I agree on all points, the sound is a bit disappointing, my 899 sounds much nicer! All Panigales get daft hot it seems....have you thought about fitting the throttle spacer to cure the snatch at low speed? As I've mentioned before, the 2015 Multi was first with back-lit switches I think. However, if KTM can put them on the 790 Duke and as you say, Triumph on a lot of their models, Ducati have no excuse for not having it on their flagship, especially when they have the tech in house already! Cheapskates! ;) Ditto the fuel gauge - although Ducati's history with those is a bit poor (understatement).

    Another great reviewTMF, just amazes me how every bike made has usually some simple annoying idiosyncrasies, I can accept the rattles noisy motor, clutch, but to ride this machine in warmer climates or slightly congested traffic without special protection from heat, or not be able to navigate around tighter areas would surely take the love out of owning such a machine. I love you’re honest objective reviews and would hope manufacturers take into consideration you’re comments, surely this would make for a better product and happier customers, just saying.....

    I test rode a V4s a few months ago and like yourself was a bit scared at the start but quickly grew in confidence and couldn't believe how easy and smooth it was at low speed, actually less jerky than my Duc Supersport. Fantastic fair review Andy! If only Ducati had sought your opinion when designing the bike. Some of those niggles (and too many for a 24k bike) should really have been addressed before launch. So much so that even if I had the cash, they would seriously make me reconsider. But I understand those who are besotted with the brand, so tolerant of failings which are unforgivable really. But now I think, I don't know a single owner of one. Perhaps the few on the road are all Demos. That's why they are so expensive! How quirky is that.
