Hi Nick, On the MBUX system, once you set up your ambient lights, theme dash to sport etc, does this automatically save for when you next switch the car on? Or are you required to change each time you get into the vehicle? I imagine it saves via your profile/Mercedes me, but wondered does it auto default to whatever you set it to?
Sorry let me elaborate too. Let’s say I had Sport Theme and blue ambient, wanted that permanent, but now and then fancied a change to red ambient lights (but it to still revert back to blue when I turn car off) is this possible
Ah I see yeah things like that save to your profile on Mercedes latest cars. To clarify not sport mode (that’s always comfort when you start) but sport theme yes with your own ambient lighting. Each user has their own state of the car settings. Things I’ve seen that are not saved are: Driving mode Car alarms Parking sensor off Safety systems Start stop system Priority Phone on Bluetooth (two are connected at all times anyway, so you just toggle between them regardless of the profile) There’s probably a few more as well but everything else can save to a profile.
I love that your channel focuses on the tech and items like this rather than the legacy channels who spend 1 min on tech and 30 mins on pointless suspension calibration talk!
Thank you! 🙏 Always open to suggestions, I’m looking at possibly ways in the future to cover more stuff but in a shorter timeframe. That’ll mean as good value videos but not as long 🙏 Although I hope everyone appreciates the details and walkthrough guide type of style! 🤓
Nick, thank you for always providing us with unique information about Mercedes owners. You are my go-to for reliable information on how to do things on my MB. Would you happen to know the part number for the screens only? I have a GLE 350 2020. Thanks.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! Haha no sadly not, I’d imagine only people who work for Mercedes would know that sort of thing! You’ll have to ask them! 😅
FYI Nick: before I went on holiday I asked you whether What.Three.Words works in France with Mercedes navigation: it does!! What wasn't so good was that, while I've never had the navigation try to take me up a one way street the wrong way in the UK, it did it several times during a week of motoring in the south of France. French Mercedes owners must be unimpressed.
No sadly that’s a Mercedes thing all built in. I can imagine there are a lot of cables underneath to make that work! Honestly the best thing to do would be to source some very sturdy iPad holders (so they don’t rattle around) and place iPads in there with their own cellular plan (that could be expensive) or just offer WiFi with a connection either through a car or hotspot from the phone. Or even play local content downloaded in advance. That’s probably the most cost effective way of doing it.
The S-Class always used to get this stuff first. Now, (last time I checked) it's got an old MBUX system, no rear entertainment system (in the UK), no rear-wheel steering (in the UK), and no doubt other features subsequently introduced. When are they upgrading the S-Class to be luxury top-dog again?
Yes you’re absolutely right but over the past few years I’ve seen stuff come out on models all over the place (whenever the next model comes out that’s due to have a facelift or model upgrade). For example A-Class was the first model to get MBUX back in 2018. I can’t wait to see a new S-Class though! That….would be good to see!
@@joshbacon8241 - If you can find the answer, please let me know! With regard to the rear-wheeI steering, I thought it may be something to do with the conversion to RHD; but discovered this is available in Ireland and Australia. It's baffling.
It’s just what the car manufacturer decides in their head office apparently. They look at what the competition and price / availability etc. Would be good to see those sorts of things though considered manufacturers like BMW have a theatre screen in the back 😅
@@npoleary - I appreciate that, but if they can make a car an Irish person wants (and pays for), in their German factory, then ship it to Ireland, why can't they make the same car, in the same factory, and ship it to England? Everything is identical, except England is closer! If you want an even more bizarre example, the English can't specify the exhaust volume control, on the new AMG CLE 53. Reason... [paraphrasing] "We aren't convinced British people want it". Please... make it make sense!?
Seeing your review just supports my view - why would anyone under the age of 80 want this when it's limited to films on USB sticks (is it 2016?!) and no social media apps (and I'm not sure if the Spotify/Apple music even supports family sharing?). My own family would look at this, wonder why I ordered them as they just get in the way and then just pick up their phones to go onto TH-cam/Snap/TikTok/Reddit/Instagram or whatever is the trend in 18 months time when this looks even more outdated! But thanks for doing the review, very helpful for me NOT to select it!
Well this highlights something bigger, car manufacturers are constantly battling tech. They take such a long time to design (safety, emissions, multimedia systems, engines and of course tech) By the time all of that has come round, Apple, Samsung and Pixel will probably have dropped two models again. I would love to make a video on this especially with how fast tech moves these days. Personally I would put two iPads on the rear seats in some form of mount. However there won’t be any sync screen tech and they certainly wouldn’t talk to each other. But at least it has HDMI, that way the possibilities are endless. Pros and cons to it all! 🤓
Completely agree, I have EQS with all those fancy screen but its useless, kids just get their ipad and they are good to go. Cant add any games or access in easy user friendly youtube for kids to watch.
Yeah use the HDMI port for an external device like a firestick or something. There is no way to do it on the car’s multimedia system though They might have a browser I should add but even then you have to connect a device via a hotspot for internet and it’s not a dedicated app, it’ll just be in a browser.
Hi nick! I have a question I was wondering if you could help? On the Mercedes app at the top it always says updated with a time? Does this mean the time I lock the vehicle? As sometimes it can go from me locking the vehicle at 5pm and then waking up to it saying updated at 3am?
No it basically just means the last time the app communicated with the car. I don’t know what the refresh intervals are but I’d imagine that it’ll update once a day or immediately if it’s unlocked or something like that. It probably checks the car’s battery too and limits the number of refreshes of information if the battery is low. Mine for example shows yesterday afternoon (I’m writing this in the morning the day after) 🤓
Ah, I got so worried! Because my car has been updating at 3am for the past few days, so I got worried thinking someone's near my vehicle at that time!! So it's just updates that can happen? Thank you so much!!
cool tech gadgetry. I am convinced I would not want it, though. In 5 years this will be outdated because everything is already transitioned to portable device-driven. It also looks like it is just something you can count on failing in a few years time (even if it won't). They should just have an app, that you can use on an iPad, computer or phone for all this functionality, rather than hard-wired.
Hello Nick.. I've got a MB C300e in Finland recently. .. And the language of mercedes me app is in english but I get the notifications in Finnish.. ... Any way I can change it to English???. Please help!!! 🙏
Hi! I’ve never changed the language of my phone so I’m not sure, I’m presuming the language of the phone is set to Finnish? What’s that set to? Not sure how it works but I presume that controls the notification language
@@npoleary no... The language of the phone is also in English... As well as the language of the Mercedes me app.. But still I get the notification in Finnish. I checked with the dealer and I got the response that it will be in Finnish only.. So just wanted to check if you knew any hack..
Only other thing I can suggest is to log into the Mercedes-Benz website and check every setting in your account and make sure it’s set to your preferred language. There is a section that allows you to change units so there might be something else regarding language! 🤓
What's your favourite part of this system? Let me know below!

All they need now is a camera for video calling & face recognition for setting profiles etc on each screen.
Aha yeah! They do have that on S-Class and E-Class for the driver 😊

Those HDMI ports are asking for a chromecast
Haha yeah! Good job they’re there!
