I've had my 2014 for 4 years... best and most reliable car I've ever owned once I got rid of my run flats... stop stressing so much and just enjoy the ride. Bought car with 35k miles... now has 74k...
@jimmyb269 right rear has a small crack on it but I still ride many thousands of miles after finding out at Discount Tire and replaced the tire with Michelins... of course I don't drive like a crazy person or anything just chill driving. May replace the wheel with a replacement later but hasn't been a problem and that was 3 years ago lol
Just wanted to thank you for instilling the paralyzing fear of repair in so many people considering these cars. It makes finding a good deal on one that just needs some love VERY easy. :)
That's what I'm going to get when my 16 CTS gets to 200k miles. It has all the tech I want and the presence. I'm just going to have 15k laying around just for repairs, not maintenance , repairs. The new one, I don't like that big ass tablet and the wide tablet that looks tacked on.
My first new s class was a 2003 and through 2009 it gave me no problems. Got the 2009 s550 AMG Cause of a cure edition, and still have it. Gave it to my son 2 years ago when he turned 16 and it has about 160,000 miles and still runs great and is still gorgeous. Only had to change the tires, and struts, and AC repair in all those years. Either I’ve been very lucky or the consistent oil changes and basic maintenance at a local (non-dealer) shop keeps them running great.
I just purchased a 2019 s560 Mercedes sedan. The car was a certified preowned vehicle. It came with a CPO warranty. I purchased two additional years. The warranty was expensive but covered almost all major issues. I traded in a2015 s550 Mercedes sedan which had 70,000 miles. They gave me 23,000 dollars for my trade. I ended up paying 58,000 dollars for the new car minus the warranty. I was lucky not to have had any major problems. I had a friend who had two air suspension units go bad. Bill was seven thousand. Warranty was worth the coverage.
The real problem with all these high end car companies is that they don't want to build quality. If you spent $80,000 on a Rolex, or other high end time piece, the watch would last forever. Every five years or so you would send it in for service and it would come back brand new. But, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, and Mercedes, all have the philosophy of GM. They don't want to build quality because then they won't make any money. They want the car to break down. And, the cost of repairs to be so high that the dealers make money or you get so fed up that you want to buy a new car.
Great overview! I purchased a ‘14 S550 4Matic CPO in 2016 for a about $65K with 1,700 miles on from MB Manhattan. I also purchased to extended warranty and rim/tire insurance at the time. I have 92k miles on it now and never had any major issues. All service is performed by MB. I love this car…provides a highly exceptional driving experience like no other car I have ever driven. Now, i did have an ‘07 S550 that had tons of issues. Keep the great reviews coming !
I bought my 2015 S550 in 2017 as a lease return CPO with 23k miles. 55,000 miles now.. I have had to replace brakes at 50k, a cracked wheel that MB wanted $1800 and I found one for $300. 1 back up battery for $100. Great car to drive and plan on keeping it..
What a coincidence, my dad just said he's looking to buy this generation, this looks far better than the facelift and newest model, the proportions and lines are perfect on this gen, thanks for the guide
oh hell yeah, the NEW S CLASS fukkin blows, it must suck having to make NEW designs, it's gets impossible after time, it's like a vintage band making a new album, it will SUCK.
I drove the W222 (S350 Eurpean version) for 4 years as UBER BLACK, i drove it around 12 hrs a day... i love it over the brand new, the first thing you'll notice is that after washing the car, there's a chance that the water have penetrated the front lights, and they cost 1200€/each... Suspension front shock absorbers can get old very fast along with brake pads... Anything else is superb, but avoid the S-400 and S300 they're HYBRID versions, and they can cause you a head ache after 5yrs in use.
I wanted a new daily driver after 5 years with the W222, the new one didn’t work for me, like you said, mostly the interior. I bought a brand new Tesla model S and kept my W222 alongside my W140. I must say that my W222 has been very reliable (115k miles), easy to work on (after working on a W12 Bentley everything seems easy).
I owned a 2017 S63 and a 2020 S560 of the W222 series and it absolutely is the best Mercedes Benz S class of all time. I owned every one of them since the mid 1980s and the W222 is the best. The current W223 not so much. Too many gremlins and the dash is atrocious. Two iPad screens? Seriously? And the air conditioning vents reflect onto the windshield that produces too much glare. The W221 was also a very fine automobile. I put it in 2nd place. The worst car MB ever made was the era between 2000 and 2006 with the W220.
If I ever buy an S-class, it will be the W222 for sure! But still, the car is tempting but too expensive to own. I'm still looking for a deal but not holding my breath. Nice car tough if you have the funds to splurge
I’ve had 2 new W222s back to back, then a CPO Bentley bc didn’t like 223… Now have a 2023 bmw 7 and love it! If I crunch the numbers … they all work out to be about the same … lease or buy, new or used… there’s no winning
I agree they ruined the interior in the new ones. I prefer the gauges in the dash and aluminum buttons and switches as well as the wood steering wheel. The ipads sticking off the dash look stupid.
S 580 is the legend of the road Besr proformance and handling. Already have 76,000 miles on it. ZERO issues. When i had a S 560 yes, leaks and recalls. Next purchase is the 2025 S class ELECTRIC. AMAZING LOOK IT UP.
I Totally agree ! This body style had so much class. The sloped down nose and the elegant tail lights and rear is far richer looking than the new body style. I don't care for the flat front end and the redesigned rear tail lights which you can't tell the difference from a Toyota. I own a 2015 S550 AMG Sedan. So far, so good. Of course, I still only have under 36,000 miles. I've owned a 1998 SL500 ROADSTER and a 1995 S500 SEDAN. Never had problems with either of the cars.
I still have a 2010 s550 with 107000 miles on it. I love the car surprisingly easy to work on. If you are mechanically inclined, Mercedes is a great car to own. I had a 2003 e class sold with 201,000 miles on it. 2013 GLK sold with 90,000 miles. If you like it by it. If you’re not mechanically inclined, find a good shop.
I really love this car and intend to buy one in short order. My preference is the pre-facelift with the AMG multi spoke wheels, probably the most common looking s550. What I hate is knowing those beautiful wheels can easily leave you stranded due to hairline cracks resulting in quick tire pressure loss. My current AMG has only 19” wheels and all the wheels have been repaired for bends and cracks. I have tried performance tires, luxury comfort tires, adjusting air pressure it doesn’t matter they crack and make the car prohibitive from using on long trips.
Part of the reason I opted for a 210 E55, over a 2014 E63s, was no airimatic suspension, 18 inch wheels with more tire for rough roads, and I could buy outright… Don’t get me wrong, I would have loved the latter, if for no other reason than the massaging seats…
It’s all about research and preparation, if you want to own a high end luxury car like an s class on ‘somewhat’ of a budget first explore all warranty options and then I highly suggest owning a beater car as well...hard daily driving these cars is what racks up the maintenance costs, and just do your research know what routine repairs cost and put some money away for a rainy day, owning these cars is like owning a fine suit
👍🏻🤔 thanks for preventing me buying a 3-5 year S class as I have been planning. We drive 2 MB, a 2022 GLE350 suv and a 2006 S350 sedan. Only had the 2006 for 4 years and continue to love it, thus the former plan to buy a late model S class. You have done a great job in the way of clear and balanced explanations of the pros and cons of a beautiful car.
I love the S class over the other Germans and I’m With you Kevin the generation from2014 to 2020 look more luxurious , classy , mature and beautiful than the new one other generation that I like is the 2013 model year from the previous generation of this one in the video
You know something I do agree with what you're saying because really the last generation of Mercedes Benz the 2014 -2020 W222 it is better It is a better vehicle than the new gen Benz. I will just say it's different, my respect for the brand, I prefer the old one.
All these high end luxury cars should be so well built that they should last 100,000 miles without any mechanical problems whatsoever. The car owner should only have to change the oil, rotate the tires, and address normal maintenance issues like tires or brakes. But, then the Rolls-Royce, Bentley, BMW or Mercedes dealers wouldn't make any money. They want your car to break down after the warranty, and then the cost of repairs to always be so high that the dealership makes a fortune, or you get so disgusted and decide to buy a new car. Hopefully from them..
@@Askboutceja its amazing -- got it with 102k milkes, now has 110k. Got it with expected 8 year old chases wear and tear. But expected wear, nothing more. Its hard to "wear" out the interior of a god mobile first of all. I get it, once something goes wrong with the engine its a big cost, but so is the depreciation of any new 2023 model car oiver the next 5 years. I dont see this loosing 20% more of its value. the 2015-2020 model will hold a strong resale value as you're essentially getting a maybach interior with the v12 biturbo performance engine.
I own a 2014 s 550 I had to put in work but hey 👋 I love it .. I’m not trying to be funny I think you over exaggerating about the car .. prices lol lol 😂 they are very reliable to me I ride the s class all year around… with no problem and the car is worth it ….
Mercedes lost its way in 2000. Originally MB was an excellent company at the start but these new cars are JUNK with pretty interiors. They are overpriced and unreliable sad to say in this day and age about MB or any car. I spent many hours in the MB service over 22 years and would never own any MB product again.
I feel like once a company has made a name for themselves, they stop caring. Seeing this with a lot of vehicles now this is why I hate buying them used but in some instances you don’t have a choice
I feel like they stayed true to themselves with the s65 AMG models, which is why picked one up for $45k. 2015 model, I know they are expensive to maintain/fix but a v12 twin turbo with all the luxuries even on an older chassis. I did buy a warranty and the video made me feel like they was the right move.
Bought a’16 s600 maybach and I bought a warranty with it. I absolutely love this damn thing. My advice to anyone who wants to buy one, do your research before purchasing one. And keep on top of the maintenance. I get mine serviced by MB. Do not get one of these cars if you can’t afford to maintain them. Bottom line is, if u maintenance it correctly, it’ll last you for a very long time
Thank you so much for honest straight opinion. So many afraid to say that new S Class and especially the new rubbish 7 Series BMW are tacky and vulgar in comparison to this generation. It's Emperor New Cloth story all over again! Thank you again!
Fully agree especially regarding to the BMW 7 Series. They must have signed off the design during a break down of the grid and/or drunk. Sets record on the low side.
I had a 2014 CLS that ended up with 2 cracked rims, I bought 4 rims which looked like AMG rims and put 4 Continental tires on all from tire rack cost was $2200 and looked and rode great.Mechanic at dealership thought they were genuine factory Amg wheels.
I just bought beyond awesome 2015 S550 with 80K miles for $29.000 … one owner , retired couple … Endurance extended insurance quoted me $170 monthly for Premium plan … I put about $5000 down and my payment is little over $500 per month … car is like new , it is amazing … I do have a credit card , dedicated to this car , if it needs something , it gets it right away … it’s not my point A to point B car , it’s my passion , and every time I sit in it , it’s an experience … for running errands I use my 2013 GLK 350 which I also love , both cars are fantastic , my daughter likes GLK better than her 2023 Dodge Challenger 😂 … but yes, S550 is unbelievable, if you want one , and you are in US , you’re very lucky , because these cars depreciate unbelievably here , S550 like mine , back in Europe, would cost me around $70.000 - $80.000 … God bless the USA 😊
A friend of mine who is a big Jaguar fan advised me always, when buying a pricy luxury vehicle buy a late model certified used vehicle - you save a lot of depreciation-and buy the extended warranty. These things are expensive to fix, and they do not have the reliability you would expect for the money. In fact my Mercedes SLK has been in the shop more times for non scheduled maintenance than the 4 that is right 4 Hondas I have owned.
The craziest thing about reliability is just how unpredictable it is. You say you're SLK has been in the shop constantly however I met an individual that daily drives an SLK and has never had an issue with it. Every car purchase is just rolling the dice this is why I would get a warranty no matter what car it is or just lease a new one
@@MeynMotorGroup No, the SLK is not in the shop constantly, but more than I expected out of a MB and certainly much more that the 4 Hondas I have owned. Of the 4 Hondas and approximately 200,000 miles on them one was in the shop for a non scheduled service and that was a flat spot on the steering wheel due to my iron fisted driving style and one Accord that came from the factory with a bad wiring harness. The Benz crapped out on me ( on my way to Canada for vacationwith some sort on intercooler problem - I managed to limp through vacation as long as I did not drive it in the rain go figure). and it crapped out on me with a high pressure fuel pump problem and a bunch of other little niggles. But it is a great ride, and worth the hassle I get more comments on it than I got on my Harley and that bike drew a lot of attention. There is just something about a two seater with that Three pointed star on the grill.
I appreciate your videos. I have a Lexus LS and GS and have thought about an S class or even a Bentley, so your videos are very helpful and informative.
Don't do the Bentley. If people were honest they are complete POS's. Crap like replacing suspesion after only 40-50k. My friend had one and spent thousands fixing it and it only had 36k on it.
I had a Lexus LS460 that was totaled after a 3/4 ton truck ran a stop sign. I still drove it 5 hours home from Nashville after being hit. I now have a 2016 MB W222 and I would give anything to have my Lexus back. It rode smoother and literally never had a problem at all in the 100k miles I drove it. MB has already had the tilt steering stop working, check engine light on (environmental crap), and I think I have an airmatic issue. Has 47k miles. I’ve had it for three months and looking to sell and go back to Lexus.
Be aware certain parts are not covered under a section called wear and tear, something that can fall under that category is the burmester amplifier which is about $2500, so keep that in mind when purchasing.
Its a good point that he brought up the depreciation as many people dont seem to factor that in. Even with a 2-3 year old CPO you will lose about half of what you paid for it in 4 years of ownership
While most of this is correct as someone who used to drive bmw 750s I can say the S class is much more reliable. Yes it’s expensive to maintain but that should be expected. Even my S65 while horrendously expensive to maintain didn’t have hardly any parts fail. Did have 3 cracked wheels though so on that I agree 100%
A mastertech that I know has two benzes with over 300k miles on them each, he said he's never had an issue with either one. I know another gentleman who bought a new at the time Corolla and his transmission took a dump on him along with someone that has a 2019 accord with a myriad of issues. This stuff is too unpredictable and that's why I just tell everyone to lease, buy CPO, or get a warranty.
A question: when buying a used w222, you don't get the warrantry. How to deal with that? Also which is the most reliable? Pre-facelift I mean. I am aiming for pre-facelift s350d.
Beautiful cars to look at, drive, think about. With that said, as you mentioned, all luxury cars are disposable and best owned under warranty or lease. You even mentioned that Toyota or Lexus being disposable is just the nature of the beast. I love your videos and opinion. But the fear of owning a German out of warranty is not just a complexity it is a quality issue. I have 2 Lexus vehicles, as in the others I have owned. I suspect they will last for years and trouble free. No squeaks, no leaks, just good service. In the rare event something does go wrong, the service is unmatched. If this wasn't the case I'd be happy to rock a Mercedes or BMW. I don't focus just on reliability, but I do believe it is a factor in quality. "The wheels crack right left and center." No thanks, but thank you for the honest review. Wrecked cars are seldom worth the discount, and I never knowingly would buy one.
Great point my friend reliability might not need to be a first priority as long as one is covered but quality is important. I don't think a Lexus product is quite as disposable since you can owner that for an additional few more years and will have high resale value so that helps out consumers tremendously. The worst thing about vehicles like the S class is how hard they fall in value which makes it hard to recommend new or used although they are incredible products.
Actually the worse thing about the S, is that it is so strikingly beautiful, you just wish she was close to as good in the real test of quality, time. I recently had a 69 Mercedes, the quality of that was so Germany perfect......but I digress. Great review Kevin
@@jeffamburgey7485 yea I hear you def an amazing product but you know I keep telling people, if they like the S then they should look into the Genesis G90 as well since it captures the essence of this car minus the 3 pointed star on the hood 😅
Genesis is gorgeous.....I looked I just kept going back to Lexus, somehow their flaws good in another way. This LX, 2 months, no doubt the right choice. My father had 67 Buick Electra, which he always said was his best car. The LX, with its positive heft, the way it moves reminds me of that. I think it's a homerun even if Lexus did not intend it.
Unfortunately most MB dealership don’t do a single thing except print out and enroll CPO. Dealers won’t spent $100 on a CPO cars and Hope smthg go wrong in a few months and warranty pays for it. Dealership CPO model is broken cos there is no inspection from Manufacturers so dealers cheat the system.
I bought my 2015 S550 new and I absolutly love this car. I have nothing but good things to say about this car, but you are right about the wheels. I'm so glad I bought the $400 wheel warranty. They defiantly lost money on that. I have had to buy one wheel sense the warranty ran out. $1100
Bought mine new in 2015, the only problem has been the front passenger seat not working after warranty. Repair for that seat was $800. I'm still on the original batteries.
I cannot believe some of the comments regarding Mercedes Benz vehicles especially the s class derivative. I have had the pleasure in working on a considerable amount of vehicles over the years, including Rolls Royce and Bristol. I can categorically conclude that Mercedes Benz high end vehicles are superb, giving performance with class and panache. Yes some cheaper models arnt the best, but compaire these models to cheaper low cost manufactures such as Ford and even these are far superior. The Mercedes S Class is without question in my mind is one of the finest vehicles manufactured in the 21st century to date.
There isn't so much a question or a doubt about how superb the S class is as a product to drive, experience, sit in and indulge with. The topic of this video is regarding a buyer's guide for new potential owners and what they need to watch out for when buying one. Not one time in this video did I say don't buy it, I merely said buy it the right way, CPO or lease and dump. That's it. Rest of the commenters don't watch the video, they just comment something ignorant and leave.
If you're spending a hundred grand on a car you better make damn sure you got a warranty. I have a e46 m3 and I'm paying out the ass to keep it going, I should've just got an S Class with a warranty instead. I spent 10gs in the last 6 months and it still needs work
You hit the nail on the head. If you have an S class then it needs to be with a warranty. I had a CL500 which I made sure had a comprehensive warranty.
I’ve been a loyal MB S class driver for many years. Have owned almost every S class from the 116 to the 126…I skipped the 140 and picked up in 2011 with the S class again. After my 2011 (owned it) I learned to lease. Had a 2017 on lease and rolled into a 2020. Now the lease is up in a month and I hate the new S class. Agree I could deal with the exterior (ridiculous door handles) but the interior is dreadful. I’m in my 60s and fairly tech savvy but the new interior with that giant screen and minimal manual controls are awful. Living in NJ and always being a safe and careful driver, between the 2017 S550 4matic and the 2020 S 560 4matic, I’m now in my 7th cracked rim. The run flats and no spare are the worst for the car; heavy car on sub-standard wheels on hard low profile tires = $$$. There was actually a class action suit against MB for this reason but they weaseled their way out of it. Caught now between a rock and a hard place…buy it out and suffer the future electronic repairs and tire issues, definitely not getting a new one, or turn it in and say bye bye to MB. I still own my old w116 and 1995 124 wagon and may just leave new MBs in the rear view mirror and continue to just drive the hand built quality cars that MB was once known for.
I just bought a 21 LC500 convertible with 20k miles on it, I negotiated a maintenance package that covers all maintenance / oil changes / basic repairs / etc. Should I be okay??? I'm related to an auto engineer and she said it should be fine until about 80-100k miles and suspension issues arise. But electronics and engine will be great (naturally aspirated) and the electronics are dated in it but proven. What are your thoughts?
My favourite is the 2005 short wheel base Maybach, all that bearl woodwork that wraps you up. the nicest merc ever made. if i want boring i may as well buy a kia.
The W140 was amazing - I bought it in 600SEL and 600SL. Massively over-engineered. I have to say that my 2017 S63 Cabriolet is built this well. It really is a tour de force.
My heart says a gorgeous grey Mercedes S560, my brain says final year Lexus LS460L Rwd with non air suspension for the lowest maintenance flagship car. I'm pretty handy so id be able to do a bulk of the work myself.
Vehicle reliability also depends how and where person drives. If car is driven constantly heavy rush hour traffic abusive manner. That’s throwing money away. I had a Benz w221 and it was best car I had till it got t-boned by careless suv fellow running a stop sign.
Lol the wheels!!?? One wheel cracked in San Diego, wheel replacement $780, tire $500, $1,280 for a pothole one wheel in a S Class. In Cali we call the police and make a report and file a claim with insurance.
Just ridiculous. I brought a Toyota corolla in1995 done 850k. The most expensive thing I have ever put in it is petrol. My mechanic says it's due for a new timing chain and I'll probably get another 800k out of it. Owning a S class is a joke.
the warranty isn't worth it, in my opinion. it's $8k-$10k, you pay a deductible when you use it, and there's no guarantee you'll even need it. If you have $8k, you'll be able to pay for the repairs out of pocket.
That’s why you should always buy CPO that way it just comes with the warranty and there’s no guessing. Really you should just lease and dump a new car so you never have to play these games ever again.
You can't have Caviar taste with spam budget. Many people don't fit the "financial profile" to own a luxury car it was intended for. I'm not wealthy but I'd feel comfortable owning a non Air suspension, RWD Lexus LS460L. I worked on nearly all my repairs on my 2008 Ls460, a 2013-2017 would be nearly the same to maintain. My only concern would be the Brake booster which is a $3000+ dealer cost if out of the extended courtesy warranty.
Did you say that the recalls out of warranty are coming out the owners pocket? That’s not how that works my guy, I worked for Mercedes and to the best of my understanding all safety critical items are covered by Mercedes Benz for free. I had to add a few rivets to a C43 AMG to reinforce one of the cross bars in the back, that was covered by MB.
Yea my friend leasing is ideal sadly even that’s expensive. I remember 7 series was super cheap pre pandemic like $700-$800 a month on a lease but those days are gone and the 7 was never really on the s class level
They’re amazing cars, but the M278 will eventually give you trouble. Later versions of the engine are better, but my 2016 still threw a turbo code. I wish they stuck with an NA engine design

That's great to hear. I am looking at a 2015 S550 that has a little over 80K miles. Would you recommend?
@@m0th.shroommm check the maintenance history. Brakes were $2000 for authentic MB parts.
What a coincidence, my dad just said he's looking to buy this generation, this looks far better than the facelift and newest model, the proportions and lines are perfect on this gen, thanks for the guide
I agree my friend
oh hell yeah, the NEW S CLASS fukkin blows, it must suck having to make NEW designs, it's gets impossible after time, it's like a vintage band making a new album, it will SUCK.
I was tempted to buy a 2016 S400L h 3.2 V6 (A). Should I avoid it because it's a hybrid?
Bought my 2016 in 2019. It’s 2024 and it’s still in tip top shape with 63,000 miles
What types of issues have you encountered with the S63?
Why was w220 so bad?
I’ve had 2 new W222s back to back, then a CPO Bentley bc didn’t like 223…
Now have a 2023 bmw 7 and love it!
Looks stupid and cheap.
100% agree
S 580 is the legend of the road
Besr proformance and handling. Already have 76,000 miles on it. ZERO issues. When i had a S 560 yes, leaks and recalls. Next purchase is the 2025 S class ELECTRIC. AMAZING LOOK IT UP.
I have a 2018 w222 and a 2021 w223. Zero problems so far. Fingers crossed!
I’m only into Rolls Royce but have had the 1990 S classes! They all handle bumps or death hinge on the road like nothing! Love it!
Get a set of Brabus forged alloys. They look better and the lower unsprung weight will improve ride and handling.
@@iankuah8606hi which ones ?
This happend to me , I have 2014 s350d lwb amg, with the 20inch wheels that crack😅
This is due to the weight of the S-Class, they eat up most rims.
Great points my friend, having a car on the side helps out as well
👍🏻🤔 thanks for preventing me buying a 3-5 year S class as I have been planning.
By far the best and honest video on luxury cars I've seen.
Never any issue with my 2018 S560 4 matic. 49k miles, flawless!
I love the S class over the other Germans and I’m With you Kevin the generation from2014 to 2020 look more luxurious , classy , mature and beautiful than the new one other generation that I like is the 2013 model year from the previous generation of this one in the video
For sure my friend the W221 was also a great vehicle 👍
Buy a Lexus then. It has all you mentioned
Don’t be stupid, every car has a problem soon or later, the best car for sure, im going to buy this year for sure!!
I just bought a 2014 s550 about a month ago, very clean car. still turns heads and people ask "what year is it" youll love the car
@@Miamiflow885 i believe you, 2014-2017 for me the best body and interior
You should make a vidoe
The s65 AMG 2015-2020 are a bargain right now. Personally picked up on for $45k and love it.
How is it doing?
@@Askboutceja its amazing -- got it with 102k milkes, now has 110k. Got it with expected 8 year old chases wear and tear. But expected wear, nothing more. Its hard to "wear" out the interior of a god mobile first of all. I get it, once something goes wrong with the engine its a big cost, but so is the depreciation of any new 2023 model car oiver the next 5 years. I dont see this loosing 20% more of its value. the 2015-2020 model will hold a strong resale value as you're essentially getting a maybach interior with the v12 biturbo performance engine.
@@awickwire amazing man that sounds super cool I’m in the market for a gas saver s450 a 2018-2019
45K ????
I was looking at the '16 S 550 w/62k on the clock, but after viewing your video change of heart! Good job, and keep up the outstanding work
I must own this beast asap.
I own a 2014 s 550 I had to put in work but hey 👋 I love it .. I’m not trying to be funny I think you over exaggerating about the car .. prices lol lol 😂 they are very reliable to me I ride the s class all year around… with no problem and the car is worth it ….
I bought new in 2016, ordered with no rear seat cooler and regular stereo, saved a lot. 30,000 miles with no problems.
Well said!! Nice too look at and rent, but i will never again own them.
Bullshit.
Stfu why you old people hate us gen z 😭😂
Should I pull the trigger and get one reliability issues have me worried!
@@peps5508Don’t worry - I own a 2007 S63 AMG driven hard sometimes on German autobahn and so far just normal maintenance. Relax!
Any problems with Lexus??? Japanese for me all day….
I would never leave Lexus.
Just bought a 2003 Lexus LS430. I absolutely love it.
The 2015 and up at 5:50 is actually a very reliable car
The W222 is awesome inside and out.
What are your thoughts on 3rd party warranties?
Be aware certain parts are not covered under a section called wear and tear, something that can fall under that category is the burmester amplifier which is about $2500, so keep that in mind when purchasing.
Its a good point that he brought up the depreciation as many people dont seem to factor that in. Even with a 2-3 year old CPO you will lose about half of what you paid for it in 4 years of ownership
Yea my friend CPO cars will still depreciate quite a bit as they are also fairly new still
While most of this is correct as someone who used to drive bmw 750s I can say the S class is much more reliable.
I am aiming for pre-facelift s350d.
precise description of the flaws the W223 (screen, interior). I feel the same.
I wish Toyota team up with MB and put a V8 lexus engine in the W222 body.
That would be called an LS 460 lol still prone to all the same electronic, actuator, and suspension issues as the other flagship cars
Guys would it be a bad idea to purchase an 14-15 s63 with 140-150k kms on it for around 45-50k cad, thoughts??
@@jeffamburgey7485 very nice I believe you got the Luxury trim? That’s the perfect model to get I hope I can try one eventually
Interesting that you talk about S560 oil plug issue. This is a common problem, even on my 2013 W216 CL 4.7 biTurbo. Got it fixed last January.
Yes! Don't like the big tablet in the center. I like the feel of the clicking clacking of physical buttons.
I’ve always preferred BMWs but the W222 is a beautiful car
A very thorough & informative video! This is one of my dream cars & always has been. Thank you for the insight.

I spent 10gs in the last 6 months and it still needs work
O/T but that M-B video is exquisitely well done.
You hit the nail on the head. If you have an S class then it needs to be with a warranty. I had a CL500 which I made sure had a comprehensive warranty.
Pretty much true for any European car.
The new S Class interior looks like an iPad showroom. And the exterior massively lacks the S Class presence of previous models.
Did you 2011 have tons of issues hence you leasing now?
How about the ride new model vs previous model?
I just bought a 21 LC500 convertible with 20k miles on it, I negotiated a maintenance package that covers all maintenance / oil changes / basic repairs / etc. Should I be okay???
I'm related to an auto engineer and she said it should be fine until about 80-100k miles and suspension issues arise. But electronics and engine will be great (naturally aspirated) and the electronics are dated in it but proven.
What are your thoughts?
You should be ok since you have warranty and maintenance covered
My favourite is the 2005 short wheel base Maybach, all that bearl woodwork that wraps you up. the nicest merc ever made. if i want boring i may as well buy a kia.
Personally, I'd much rather look at a Lexus Ls 460 or LS600 hybrid.
Mercedes last properly engineered car was the W140.
The W140 was amazing - I bought it in 600SEL and 600SL. Massively over-engineered. I have to say that my 2017 S63 Cabriolet is built this well. It really is a tour de force.
Still halfway through, but i really appreciate the level of detail you put into all of the info ur covering
Thank you my friend I'm glad you got value out of the content!
Can you go over 2013-2018 G63?
Very interesting, could you tell why such magnificent world-class vehicle depreciates so fast ?
It’s over engineered and parts are a demon. Basically the repair costs kills these cars.
My heart says a gorgeous grey Mercedes S560, my brain says final year Lexus LS460L Rwd with non air suspension for the lowest maintenance flagship car. I'm pretty handy so id be able to do a bulk of the work myself.
Which is the best years ?
Vehicle reliability also depends how and where person drives. If car is driven constantly heavy rush hour traffic abusive manner. That’s throwing money away. I had a Benz w221 and it was best car I had till it got t-boned by careless suv fellow running a stop sign.
Lol the wheels!!?? One wheel cracked in San Diego, wheel replacement $780, tire $500, $1,280 for a pothole one wheel in a S Class. In Cali we call the police and make a report and file a claim with insurance.
And I had to get the wheel painted. That was included in the cost.
these are good videos - great analysis, thank you for posting
Glad you like them!
Would you go for a RWD or 4MATIC in the V8 segment?
Very informative video !! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Just ridiculous. I brought a Toyota corolla in1995 done 850k. The most expensive thing I have ever put in it is petrol. My mechanic says it's due for a new timing chain and I'll probably get another 800k out of it. Owning a S class is a joke.
I got a 2018 E coupe and a 16 GLC 300 no problems just regular maintenance
There is a solution: Lexus LS. It's an S class with bullet proof reliability.
th-cam.com/video/gr38jTmlZ5U/w-d-xo.html
the warranty isn't worth it, in my opinion. it's $8k-$10k, you pay a deductible when you use it, and there's no guarantee you'll even need it. If you have $8k, you'll be able to pay for the repairs out of pocket.
That’s why you should always buy CPO that way it just comes with the warranty and there’s no guessing. Really you should just lease and dump a new car so you never have to play these games ever again.
Very unbiased review & informative, thank you
You're welcome my friend glad the content was valuable to you
I have CLK W209. It’s well maintained and no problem. I’ve never wanted an S Class. S is for Spend.
What do you think about Audi D4 facelift compared to W222 ?
Would you say the 2011 S550 is reliable aside from the air suspension?
I had a 2013 w221, and I would say yes. When I sold it, a couple of sensors needed replacing. (Oxygen I think). Get a warranty though!
No
No, they have other issues
You can't have Caviar taste with spam budget. Many people don't fit the "financial profile" to own a luxury car it was intended for. I'm not wealthy but I'd feel comfortable owning a non Air suspension, RWD Lexus LS460L. I worked on nearly all my repairs on my 2008 Ls460, a 2013-2017 would be nearly the same to maintain. My only concern would be the Brake booster which is a $3000+ dealer cost if out of the extended courtesy warranty.
So true most people are not in a tax bracket where they can properly afford a luxury car
I just got the W221 a few weeks ago,mi wished it had been the one your showing, but my caddy had issues so I was able to get it.
ABC is what made it soooo special!!

No I didn't say that 😅 literally said the opposite but I like how you question what you misheard regardless lol
leasing yes, buying better not 😅, thanks Kevin.
@MeyanMotorGroup: I LOVE YOUR INFORMATIVE VIDEOS & HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL…I’M CONSIDERING BUYING A 2013 W221 S550 4-MATIC MERCEDES (for classic restoration reasons [the last year of production] and for leisure), CAN YOU DO A RELIABILITY VIDEO ON THE W221 AND/OR ADVICE ON A POSSIBLE PURCHASE (the good, bad and the ugly truths)? I VALUE YOUR OPINION & ANY ADVICE YOU CAN PROVIDE…
Man, you kicked some real knowledge. Better get a warranty or go CPO. Thanks for making this video.
Glad it helped!
*Just picked up a 2015 S-500 wit 100K miles on it. Brake checks and emission passed. Fingers crossed as I plan to hold it for 2 or 3 years.*
