Lane's contribution to music with AIC is legendary, and had a massive effect on many people's lives, including mine. I've read the story of his decline so, so many times, and it leaves me feeling sad everytime, wishing I could go back in time and burst into his flat, and drag him into a locked door rehab. Layne's death must be one of the slowest suicides in history.

I think one of four Grunge legends should have made it on the list. Layne Staley of Alice in Chains is a straight up example, overdosing on a killer speedball. So is Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone. He may not have made it to national fame but was influential to other Grunge stars and his heroin overdose surely robbed him of that national fame. Cobain and Cornell are indirect examples. While they committed suicide, drug relapses surely played a role in their deaths. May they rest in peace and I'll always be thankful to them for creating a short yet memorable era of rock.
