You guys should try listening to "Shake me down" by Cage the Elephant. I cry every time i watch the music video too.
In interview, chester said music save his life....
If I didn't love you by Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean, it is my ex wife and my favorite country singers finally singing together something we always wanted and it was a song about struggle post breakup made as our divorce was finalized. In my anger I said I never fell in love with her and married the first person nice to me, in reality i loved her deeper than anyone ever in my life, I was just wounded to my soul to the point I became cold and honestly sill am cold to this day, but I wish I hadn't said I never loved her. Even if I clarified or set the record strait, there is no point, the damage is done and permanent.
You missed “just breathe”
Bray Wyatt's Song Shatter by Code Orange should have been on this list bc it sums up how Windham Rotunda Felt about Everything From His Fans His Personal Demons His Kids JoJo his Fiance His Works Him Going Thru Depression When John Hubbert Passed Away ....And More
In all honesty, LINKIN PARK probably saved so many teenagers in my generation due to the lyrics. He helped a lot of of us with stress and finding our own. But looking at the songs now he was telling us he was depressed and we just couldn’t see it. He saved so many of us but couldn’t save himself.
Not only teenagers. When I was going through the darkest period of my life, I'd listen to them and let out all the pain I was feeling. It was the only thing that broke the walls and helped me breath, and I was in my twenties.
Even as an adult... Linkin Park still holds something special for me and even hearing "Friendly Fire" and seeing Chester on that video brought me to tears instantly. Having seen them live 10+ times ill still never forget any of their shows and what they brought to my life thru their music and the nostalgia and memories of what used to be, they are literally a band that so many within a generation still connect over... I will forever miss Chester and what could have been but will forever treasure what they gave to us.
Stop making me cry -_-
Chester still finds a way to drag me up from dark places in my 30s when I get in that headspace
Saved me last year and I’ve became a avid fan
I know it’s a cover, but Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt” gets me every time.
yea but thats an example where the tragedy was well and truly understood at the time of the release
I understand that a lot of people love that version and the reasons why. I'm a die hard NIN fan so find the bleakness of the original, especially at the end of the album it is part of, to be one of the most profound, soul destroying pieces of music ever. Consider that Trent wrote that album, then, as he has said himself, turned into the conceptual person he was singing about. Drug addict and all the rest.
@@anniesamuel4787 I’m in the minority that like the original better. Both are great but Trent is one of the best and most under appreciated artists in our generation. Such a legend
@@Shepkillz Yeah perhaps NIN is too much for a lot of people. It's a bit niche, even though the music has had such a profound affect on music that has come afterwards. Those who love it, LOVE it. Like us.
@danielshepherd1366 Trent from what I remember loved the cover
Honestly, there's so many Linkin Park songs that could be on this list. One More Light came out only a few months before Chester passed away, and it had the lyrics "Who cares if one more light goes out? Well I do".
The whole song was so emotional that people sang along with it. We will never forget you Chester.
Believe it or not, when I first heard that song on the radio I was getting teary eyed when I first heard that song.
I think “Heavy” was one for me.
i was thinking of "Breaking the Habit"
@@Agju There's so many songs that hit hard after his passing, "Shadow of the day" also is another one that comes to mind.
@@arvurebantra7639 no doubt
As someone who still battles with depression, Numb still hits differently.
Somewhere I Belong also hits differently. The constant mental battles of not knowing if or where you belong can really wear you down
Is that Alice in Chains?
yep.
Agreed ❤
@@ckotcher1Linkin Park.
Agree with Chester being the most tragic, but the song should've been Heavy or One More Light😢
One More Light was about a friend they lost to cancer. But, just about the entire discography of Linkin Park could be on this list. It could be a top 10 of just Chester's lyrics. I was lucky to have seen them live in 2000. It was truly an experience. I can say I am on the Live in Texas CD.
@@ThatDevilForrest Songs can mean different things to others though, although I agree, every verse that he sang tears my heart into pieces. Love Chester and the Band. RIP

Shadow of the Day
Each person has a different feeling and understanding of tragedy in music, based on each person's personal experiences and emotions.
Most lyrics by Chester are tough to listen to even more now. He was so open about his struggles, but hid behind a smile. Depression is so evil.
@emmah8242 well, sort of. Mike actually wrote most of the lyrics for their catalog, Chester just brought them to life.
@@duanethomas7067 MTM they both equal songwritting partners.
He was open about his struggles, but not through Mike's lyrcs.
"The Show Must Go On"... Hearing of Freddie Mercury's death was a huge punch to the solar plexus... That man had the most iconic voice in music and he died way, way too young.
Prince, too. I mean he was much older than Freddie, but had so many projects to come, and just went. I mean he was struggling at the end, may they rest in peace.
I agree with you. Thank goodness we can still hear him, and with Adam Queen still goes on.❤
Miss Freddy immensely! May he find peace 🕊️ with his precious 💞 felines in the next life, rocking along the way with those gone before. We miss you Freddy! There is no one quite like you & we'll miss you forever ♾️. Thanks for the music 🎶🎤 & memories.😭💔🤘
That, Who Wants To Live Forever, and Too Much Love Will Kill You are 3 of Queen's best and most underrated songs.
These Are The Days of Our Lives was completed and filmed music video wise only about a month before his passing and it is the last time he is even seen on film so to speak. And you can sadly see a difference in his appearance but at the same time him performing the song kind of conveys "I know what's coming but I am still here so let think about the good times not what is to come"
Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell were the hardest goodbyes i have ever face and my deepest regret was never being able to see them live or in person.
Bucket list items that will never be fulfilled.
I’m in the same boat.
@@WaspHokie i had one chance to see Linkin Park in Greenville but at the time Chester Bennington broke his leg and canceled the concert.
Chris Cornell was amazing live; such a powerhouse. Sorry you never got to experience that.
@@leann848 thank you
I regret never seeing Chester Bennington and Keaton Pierce in person. RIP to all of the legends.
My youngest son took his own life in 2018. Shortly after his funeral I started my car and Leave Out All the Rest was just starting on the radio and it just felt like something my son would say to all of us he left behind. To this day I get tears when I hear it.

"So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself, and I
Didn't know I was lost" (Avicii)
'The Days' is another one that gets me whenever I think about Avicii
to me this doesn’t sound like an unaliving song. It’s sad he had so many demons and didn’t even enjoy being young.. I still don’t know what happened to him, like what actually happened to him but he seemed like a really nice guy.
“The Show Must Go On” always hit me hard in multiple ways. Not only because Freddie kept his AIDS diagnosis under wraps, but because of my own journey as an AuDHD person dealing with PTSD and multiple addictions and having to mask so much of my pain as I go through life.
He always wrote such relatable songs that resonated with me. May he rest in peace.
Me too. I always cry when i hear it 💔💔💔
Brian May wrote it and was influenced by Freddie's illness and his own depression. "Outside the dawn is breaking, but inside in the dark I'm aching to be free."
Agreed. Honestly, the entire Innuendo album is one long protracted farewell, with plenty of tracks that can heavy on the emotion at times; Innuendo, The Hitman, These Are the Days of Our Lives, I'm Going Slightly Mad.
Same
Genuinely curious. What does AuDHD stand for?
Chester's death is the only celebrity death I ever cried over and actually mourned. Words can't describe what their music meant to me.
His death happened exactly a week after I turned 18, and during that time, I was struggling with my own demons and depression and when I heard the news, I sat in my room for a good month before even talking to anyone, including my parents. At this point in time, Linkin Park is pretty much all I listen to besides Imagine Dragons, or Citizen Soldier
I totally get that, my friend/cousin died in September just after Chester and I was devastated by both, so one more light was very poignant for me
Amén!! When you connect with someone with their level of creativity and sensitivity you consider them a part of your life! Losing him was traumatic for me!
I cried over Chester's death AND Amy Winehouse's death. However, I predicted she wouldn't last too long. I was SHOCKED over Chester's death. Didn't see that one coming, just two months after Chris Cornell's suicide!
@@sadiesmith1509 I love Citizen Soldier! Their music and Linkin Park just hit so right and are both so helpful in a lot of instances.
Thanks to Chester's suicide, listening to ANY of the Linkin Park songs is a challenge when you finally realize what the lyrics were about.
It’s not like they were hiding it in all fairness
I've particularly had trouble not connecting Crawling, or Breaking the Habit for that matter, to him.
Some of us already knew what the lyrics were about, even before he passed as we listened to the interviews and the shows.
@@copocopocopocopo"I dont know what I'm fighting for, or why I have to scream!" Kinda slaps you in the face with it, doesn't it? Though you don't even think on it until... Yeah
Yes. It also woke me up to the direction I was heading. Thank you, Chester. May you finally be at peace.
Freddie, Michael, Chester… They may have died, but their music and spirit still lives on. LEGENDS NEVER DIE. ❤
And Keaton Pierce.
Michael was a chimo
For not only being a Linkin Park diehard fan does this get a like, but for using Chester as the clipart brings me joy. I've missed Chester since the day he passed. I lost two of my closest friends to suicide after Chester passed ( all three of us considered ourselves LPU Soldiers) and I found both of them. Not a day goes by I don't think of Chester and my two best friends. I sure as shit haven't been the same since
Sorry you have had to experience so much pain.
I'm sorry you had to go through that, and I hope you've been able to find some peace in the time since. Take care.
LPU brought so many people together, I met my best friend in LPU she's been in my life now for 18 years and I don't know what I would do without her so I feel you so much when you talk about your best friends I know they meant the world to you.
More power to you
I mean you could literally put Chester's entire catalog for number one. That dude saying all his struggles and every song he made. Saved a lot of kids and a lot of teenagers for sure.
Most of those songs were written by Mike Shinoda.
Mike wrote most of the songs. The only song which chester wrote by himself is war
@@lucaemmanuello5710 I think he wrote "Given Up", but Mike may have made revisions. Hard to be sure.
honorable mention: You know you’re right by Nirvana. Kurt Cobain’s last recorded song and just listen closely to the lyrics
Oh yes.. 💔😢
MTV Unplugged was his last recording.
THAT is where you hear every ounce of pain.
Essentially a suicide note
Why wasn’t this on the list?
@@EtonDG im thinking they aren't counting covers (Johnny cash's hurt not on there) or posthumous release s (no time in a bottle either) i think they see it as a different list I would love to see!!!
Going back to the sixties: Syd Barrett , then lead singer and guitarist for Pink Floyd wrote and sand a song called Dark Globe. This was around the time his use of drugs and oncoming schizophrenia caused him to cease to function in the band. He was replaced by David Gilmour. He didn’t die until he was sixty but never touched a guitar or acknowledged that he was Syd Barrett from Pink Floyd again. His is a very sad story. Shine on Syd💎
Queen’s ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’ breaks my heart every time I hear it. Not only because of Freddie Mercury’s death, but because Queen was my mom’s favorite band, and she loved that song. I played it for her in hospice. Also, ‘Pretty Noose’ by Soundgarden is difficult to listen to after Chris’ death for obvious reasons. And pretty much just about any song from Joy Division’s ‘Closer’ cuts deep, because Ian basically chronicled all of the thoughts going through his mind leading up to his suicide.
Sorry about your mom. I heard who wants to live forever for many dark times in my life. It was gorgeous and sad at the same time.
Your mom sounds like a great person. I never considered this song because I'm not sure if Freddy or the band knew what was to come, which is different in their last album, "Innuendo" - but the context of the song does fit, and could be seen as an early warning from the singer if he did know. Damn, it's a good song.
My understanding is Freddie was diagnosed a few years before he died and when his bandmates asked what they could do to ask, he simply asked for then to keep writing songs for him to sing. @@w2ed
My mum's favourite band was Queen, we played 'These are the Days of our Lives' at her funeral. Still can't listen to it 3 years later, condolences on your loss
😅@@w2ed
When Bowie died, I pulled up his discography on Spotify and hit shuffle, which is something my husband and I will do each time we learn of an artist passing. The first song that played was Lazarus, which is on the same album as Blackstar, and we both started crying when we heard what I'm pretty certain was a message from Bowie himself:
Look up here, I'm in heaven.
Breaking The Habit was one of the songs that resonated with me the most. You can just hear the raw emotion in Chester's voice in that song compared to the others. One More Light was good, but Breaking The Habit tugged on my emotions.
Yes I completely agree with you! It’s my favorite song too I listen to it daily because it lifts me up a lot especially the breakdown! All of Linkin Park’s songs help me when I’m feeling angry, confused or just lost. Rest in Peace Chester Bennington
That one gave me the ability to describe what my bipolar felt like when talking to my doctors.
@@kelleyk28 yes I understand you bro
"I'll paint it on the walls, 'Cause I'm the one at fault. I'll never fight again, And this is how it ends."
That bridge is especially haunting.
@@copocopocopocopo I agree with you and probably the most relatable part too it hits deep for me
Chester's death (Rest in Peace) forever changed how so many Linkin Park songs hit me. Waiting For The End, though, is the track I cannot listen to without crying, if I can listen to it at all. Chester's lyrics "Waiting for the end to come / Wishing I had strength to stand / This is not what I had planned / It's out of my control" combined with the knowledge of how his life ended just devastates me every time. All I can think is was that how it was at the end for him & 9 times out of 10 I just can't listen to the song past his opening verse. So much of that music did & continues to get me through some dark times, but that song takes me to a dark place now.
I love this song so much! But I know what you mean, I also often cried when I listened to it. The lyrics "All I wanna do is trade this life for something new" always hit me, but also the lines you already mentioned.
When I think of Skynyrd’s last concert: “If I leave here tomorrow will you still remember me?” is chilling to contemplate.
Also, "That Smell," which alludes to the scent of death and decay. That was Van Zant trying to tell his band brother to pull back from self-destruction before he became a corpse.
Freebird is my favorite song of all time
Annie Lennox's Into The West from Return Of The King. The extras on the extended DVD mention a young fan of Peter Jackson that had cancer. He got to spend some time on the set while he was getting treatment, but I think he passed before the movie came out. The song was written partly with him in mind. Knowing this, I always tear up a little when I hear it.
The story behind Eric Clapton's "Tear In Heaven" makes it an impossible listen for me.
Oh, I can't even think about that one
I was just about to post that. What a heartbreaking story.
For some reason I had that stuck in my head for a few hours until I found out that my uncle died…
That song came out about a year after my wife and I suffered a miscarriage. We were crying wrecks listening to it. Then hearing the story made it even worse. It was years before I could hear it and not break down
And the heartbreak and grief I his voice as he sings it 😢😢😢
"Leave Out All the Rest" by Linking Park definitely resonates differently after hearing it released online back in 2008. And then Twilight began using it that same year.
Man. Chester. Many of us loyal LP fans have definitely kept you in our memories and left out all the rest. Just as you said. Peace.
Mac Miller - self care ( “ like September I fall “) , Tupac - so many tears, Johnny cash “ hurt”
Hurt isn't originally by Johnny Cash but by Nine Inch Nails. However, his rendition of the song gave another meaning and feeling to the song.
@anthonymiro9155 the guy who wrote Hurt didn't want Johnny to record it, but when he heard it. He knew that he may have wrote it, but it was Johnny's song.
@@TruckerdaddyTrent Reznor
@@charlieprince8671 I couldn't remember his name
@@Truckerdaddyyes, initially Trent Reznor didn't want Johnny Cash to record the song, but once he heard it, he knew. Johnny Cash sang it best because the feeling was so genuine.
Johnny Cash is cover of hurt
It was an old man looking back on his life, and seeing that all those things that he thought were so important didn’t actually mean very much But his wife had passed away already, and he was just sick and unable to see that his life was so inspiring to the people around him And then he died, and it changed how I thought of every single song he ever sang and wrote
One More Light was definitely Linkin Park’s deepest song in my opinion
I see all the comments about One More Light from LP, but the one that gets me most is Talkin' to Myself. It was a song written by Chester through the eyes of his wife watching his downfall. A great listen to anyone out there thinking that their destructive behavior is only affecting themselves.
"Beautiful Boy" with John Lennon anticipating seeing his son grow up.
I would say just like starting over is also kinda sad too.
which one, Julien on Sean?
@joeb.evrythngEclectic5571 it sure af wasn't Julian.

Scott Hutchinson was a friend of mine. Thank you for the honourable mention.
I still listen to Frabbit daily, but have to skip that one if I want to function. Even six years later-and I was just a fan.
Garth Brooks would finish concerts by singing "If Tomorrow Never Comes". It is a pledge of undying love, fidelity and the promise that his wife would always know that he loved her. Alas, that marriage did not last. It makes me cry when I remember that those beautiful words, ended up being only words.
"Unanswered Prayers" is a song specifically about his first wife and I can't listen to that song anymore because of that.
Such nice words are usually traps.
R.I.P. Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington some of my favorite vocalists of all time wish I could've seen y'all in concert

The song "Beautiful Boy" by John Lennon. It's especially heart wrenching to hear him sing to his five- year-old-son, "I can hardly wait to see you come of age..." Shortly after singing these words, he was brutally murdered.
Sad he was so abusive to his 1st child
Oh please John Lennon was a POS, certainly to his son. He was not the God everyone makes him out to be.
@@tararitz7005but I think he was trying to form a relationship with Julian before he died

@tararitz7005 What a bloody lie!! He was never abusive to either of his sons!!
He was not in much of Julian's life. He was touring and a young rockstar headed for world fame.
Cynthia's pregnancy was a mistake. Absent yes. He says so himself.
That is not abuse!!!
The Show Must Go On he was Freddie was say 'Screw Death I will live in memory.
Day Of Our Lives Freddie was saying,'Goodbye, I love you all, and thank you.'
I miss you, Freddie 💔
Even after all these years, listening to you and Queen makes me miss you even more. RIP, Mr. Fahrenheit. 🙏😢
Days of our lives always chokes me up, particularly when he says "I still love you" and No One But You has me in floods.
I saw the thumbnail and instantly got choked up. Chester’s lyrics were as masterful as his delivery. We miss you, Chester.
“I Hate Everything About You” by Three Days Grace had me pretty teary eyed at a few points last year, but I’m through that shit now and am happy to say that I’ve moved on. The gift of music is and always will be an amazing thing. 🙏🏻🤘🏻
Rehab from Amy Winehouse
I can't argue with that. Given that the song is about Amy's refusal to enter a rehabilitation clinic and that her addiction led to her death, I'm a little surprised that wasn't even mentioned.

Even though its a cover, ive always felt sombre listening to johnny cash's version of hurt since finding out it was one of his last songs recorded, and released just after his wifes passing (who is in the video clip). He may not have wrote the song, but he brought it to life.
Heavy by Linkin Park given it’s a song about Chester Bennington’s cry for help
I came looking for this exact comment.
Aren't nearly all his songs cries for help? I wish he had found peace in his life/thoughts.
In the end is much more sad
Literally one of his final interviews said as much about Heavy 😢
That's what I felt too. I couldn't listen to Heavy for a long time after he passed.
Ive ALWAYS felt like Chester was trying to warn us.. 😞 like his song with Lincoln Park 'Nobody's Listening' ..- 🎵 "
Try to give you warning but everyone ignores me
(Told you everything loud and clear)
But nobody's listening, call to you so clearly
But you don't want to hear me
(Told you everything loud and clear)
But nobody's listening"🎵 ..
.... Like LITERALLY telling us and crying out for help😢
But he didn't write those lyrics.
@@PenneySounds he's associated with Linkin Park and that's good enough for my narrative..
@@thewizardofoz511 But if your narrative is that Chester was crying out for help via Mike's lyrics, then you have to understand that your narrative is fiction.
I still tear up everytime I hear 'Like A Stone'. Audioslave was how I learned about Chris Cornell. And his loss still hurts. Audioslave and the Foo Fighters were the soundtrack to my high school years, so when Chris Cornell passed. Just even when Taylor Hawkins passed in 2022 I teared up. But like Chris Cornell. The last time I watched the music video for Like A Stone i was fully crying.
"Boot Camp" from "Down On The Upside"... "there must be something else, there must be something good... far away from here... and I'll be there for good"
Like a stone and leave out all the rest. As someone who has struggled with drug addiction and depression I usually tear up when I hear them. Chester Layne and Chris. Legends.
2017 must be about as close to The Day The Music Died in my lifetime. Chris and Chester within freaking months.
I think at this point, I’ll never get over Chester’s death. My goodness that was the most I’ve ever cried over a celebrity’s death. He made a huge impact in my childhood. His music made an impact throughout my adolescence years. Breaks my heart every time.
I eulogized my best friend with the lyrics of leave out all the rest
"When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed
And don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest"
Yup 😢
"Tick Tock" by the Vaughan Brothers. Stevie Ray's voice is so angelic as he sings this song of peace and love, repeating the words, "time's ticking away." Little did he know that he was about to perish in a tragic helicopter crash.
The Show Must Go On makes me cry. It's like a love letter to life, love, music, Queen, and Freddie himself.
One more light Linkin Park is a tear jerker
If it wasn't for Chester Bennington and all members of Linkin Park, I LITERALLY would not have survived through high school and everything that came with being a changing teenager in those important years of ones life. I got bullied a lot too and their music (plus, just music in general, really) was ritualistically my daily escape and therapy, and ultimately what helped me stay (mostly) sane and try to keep my head held high despite the bad times.
Chester unfortunately took his life literally only days before my birthday. And every single year since then, it hurts to think about and to remember the fact that he's actually gone- I almost forget sometimes because he lives on through their music and through his craft and once in a lifetime voice. But there's just something about "Leave Out All the Rest" that punches me in my gut and yanks at my heart strings though- that song seriously gets to me. I actually first heard it when I got the first Twilight movie soundtrack- it's played at the ending credits in the film. But even so, one really cannot listen to that song without crying if they ever had any attachment to the band or to Chester. If you know, you know. I will always love Linkin Park, and I will always cherish and love that song, even if it does make me cry every single time I hear it.
Hurt...the saddest song
Trent Reznor did not want someone to cover that song because it was very personal, but after hearing Cash sing it, “That’s not my song anymore, it’s his.”

I feel like Green Day's "Wake Me When September Ends" deserves a mention as well.
Wrote it about his father's passing, live like you where dying by Tim McGraw and Johnny's song by Cross Canadian Ragweed are also similar subject matter but fantastic songs
Hurt by Johnny Cash was very depressing due to the singers failing health and all the fancy things used in the music video showed that no matter how successful we are, our lives will end at some point. The sad look on June Carter-Cash's face always made me think that she knew the end was near for a legend.
What makes ne cry in that video is when his sitting at a table with a beautiful banquet on it and he at one point pours wine on it, it shows how empty fame is and how decadence is just plain ugly.
@@hannahmabbott7370 Very true. Once the allure of being famous is gone, anyone would be reminded of how hollow we can be as a species.

What's crazy about Johnny Cash's hurt is it is a cover... Johnny Cash personally asked nine inch nails to cover it late in life because it spoke to him and killed it so hard trent reznor said its his song now.
I can’t believe you didn’t include Warren Zevon’s “Keep Me In Your Heart”. There was footage documenting his losing battle with cancer while trying to finish this album and provide his family with its proceeds.
But that one was always heart-wrenching and his condition was public knowledge. The list was about songs that listeners saw in a sadder light later (almost all of these being related to the death of the artist).
Ok. I’ll grant you that, although I knew about Glen Campbell’s battle before that song came out.
Not even an honorable mention for Nirvana's 'Come As You Are'?
Is there anyone on Earth who does not cringe when they hear Kurt Kobtain singing "Well I swear that I don't have a gun"?
I'm not one of those people, but i still don't believe it was suicide.
how about R.E.M's "Everybody hurts", since Stipe was friends with Cobain and the song was made in his honor.
@@kaidigo2210 Everybody hurts was released in 1992. Cobain passed in 1994. Yes, Stipe and Cobain were friends, but the song was not in Cobain's honor.
@@rickcallbeck2564 and that is why you should double check information that you've heard from other people, thanks for clearing that up for me.
@@rickcallbeck2564 Stipe did write a song in which he offered help to Cobain in his struggles. It's called "Let Me In", but it was released only after Cobain's death.
The Linkin Park song that is devastating to me after his death is ‘Powerless’. It’s about how you sometimes don’t know how badly someone is suffering because of how well they carry it. It’s also about the helplessness in watching someone fall into darkness. I loved the song before he passed as it was so poignant, but the lyrics apply so well to what Chester must have been going through.
“And you held it all
But you were careless to let it fall
And you held it all
And I was by your side
Powerless”
These are the days of our lives is sad because it was Freddie Mercury's last music video. 😢🎉
Or mother love, his last recording
Too Much Love Will Kill You.
@@selfan2005 only the Brian version tho. The Queen version isn't as good
yes!! it was filmed in black and white because Freddie did not look good, you could see how gaunt he looked because he was unwell
Love LP, but clearly Queen should’ve been at the top of the list
"The Show Must Go On" was the last song recorded for Queen's 1991 album "Innuendo" and the last song Freddie ever recorded. Sadly, he never got to perform it live. The first time the surviving members of Queen performed it live was in April 1992 at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert with Elton John on lead vocals and Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi on rhythm guitar.
Nutshell, like a stone, and morphine are all songs that give me chills while also having the ability to make me lose all emotional control. It’s so heartbreaking knowing the stories behind all of it..
I was gonna have a stroke if "Nutshell" wasn't on here. 😩
The Garden, by Rush. The final track, from their final studio album - written by Neil Peart, nearly a decade before succumbing to Glioblastoma. 😿
Johnny Cash's final music video Hurt 😢
Loved that song as Nine Inch Nails industrial song, but Cash just made it 100 times better, IMO.
I cry listening to that song almost every time I hear it.
it even gave Trent chills
@@ThatDevilForrest Trent Reznor who wrote the song said it was his, but after hearing Johnny sing it, said, "Now it's his."
Freddie & Chester - they both said so much about themselves in their songs. Missed but never forgotten.
Anything by The Cranberries…Linger, Zombie, Dreams, Ridiculous Thoughts…
What was the tragedy after?
Isn’t dreams by Fleetwood Mac?
@@EtonDGboth groups have a song called dreams. Youre both right lol.
@@alexallen6286 ah okay😁
@@EtonDG both have a song with same name. TH-cam “Dreams” by the Cranberries…
I appreciate the inclusion of Frightened Rabbit in the mentions. Floating In The Forth was supposed to be a song about hope in your darkest times. Now it’s a description of how Scott ended it, 10 years before he actually did it… It’s utterly heartbreaking
I hate that I didn’t start listening to them, ( that my kids didn’t introduce me to their music), until Scott was gone. I just want to time travel back and hold him.
There are several songs of Linkin Park that make me cry, i love all their songs but the one song that made me cry a lot besides One More Light was Shadow of The Day. The day Chester died the radio Dj was playing a lot of their songs on the radio so when this song was about to play the Dj said "and now the Arizona sun sets for Chester" and i just started bawling my eyes out. Linkin Park has been my favorite band my whole life and they still are, no one can replace them. I still consider it unbelievable that i got to see and meet them twice in 1 year, was the best birthday gift ever.
I still shed tears for Chester. No artists death has affected me more than his. That was my teenage years and early adult hood. He was telling us something for so long but we were numb to the situation.
I mean, who can't listen to any Linkin Park song without teary eyes and getting choked up anymore. Each and every song hit totally different now- every lyric has a new or deeper meaning! Especially the raw, slowed down verison of CRAWLING at one of his last live concert... 😭
A little different than most songs on this list, but the end of the innocence by Don Henley is one that hits hard every time.
"On the Mend" by Foo Fighters, because Dave Grohl wrote it when Taylor Hawkins survived an overdose in 2001. The song makes me cry now because Taylor didn't survive a heart attack in 2022. 😢
Dave Grohl has lost way to many close friends in his life it's heartbreaking
Alice In Chains hit me hard, I can relate to Layne Staley rest in paradise……
Me too. Alice In Chains will always move me.
Ditto
One that I find depressing is Shinedown and “Crow and the Butterfly”. Originally about a woman who lost her son at a young age, around the time it came out, a high school friend of mine who was in the Army committed suicide at Fort Hood. He left behind his wife and family at the age of 26.
Kinda shocked to see Floating in the Forth on here as an honorable mention. Love Frightened Rabbit and it's a shame how blantantly obvious all the signs were there and he took his life in the exact same manner as the song suggests. Scott had such unbelievably raw and realistic lyrics of heartbreaks that you can't just get over. The accent can take some getting used to, but I honestly feel like they were one of the greatest indie rock bands from the late 2000s/early 2010s. I definitely recommend listening to Midnight Organ Fight, but all their records are great imo.
for queen, "Who wants to live forever" also hits hard
Scott Hutchinson from Frightened Rabbit and the song Floating in the Forth. I’ve never listened to it since he committed suicide 😢
I listen to I wish I was sober whenever I need a good cry 🥺
@@fräuleinkuchen it hits a wee bit more being from Edinburgh and the Forth is literally a stone throw away.. 😔
It’s hard for me to listen to Swim until you can’t see land - another literally about suicide
Leave Out All the Rest when I first heard I really like the feel of the song, but now that I've heard the meaning behind it hits so much hard and closer to home for me, as I have had suicidal thoughts in the past, and my husband lost a close family member to suicide.
So don't mind me as I go cry and rebuild my emotional fortitude.
These are the days of our lives by Queen is the last music video he was filmed in, and it's so wild to watch and see how ill he was but still performing. Every time I watch it, I see a man personally saying goodbye and I love you to his people.
Linkin Park holds a special place in me, leave out all the rest is the song I listen to when I'm down and, despite how sad the song is, I find the lyrics comforting. Chester tells his story in his lyrics and you really can feel where he was in life from his songs.
The day Chester passed was a dark day for me. Music has never been the same. Linkin Park changing their style during Minutes to Midnight turned off a lot of people but it showed how dynamic they were. They could play and genre in any key. Long live Chester
Im surprised joy division wasn’t mentioned cuz holy shit…
Exactly I was expecting a mention, even his band mates have said on reflection the lyrics on Closer should have been a wake up call for them!
Floating on the Forth is rough. Scott sings about jumping off the bridge over the river, and at the end of it he turns it around saying "I think I'll save suicide for another year". It was ten years after the album when he went through what he sang about. I still have trouble listening to it.
Selena "I Deam of You and Aaliyah's I miss you
Dreaming Of You. Duhhhh.
I’d say Sitting on the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding is haunting considering how he died.
Did... did he die sitting on the dock of the bay? Edit: I looked it up because I was too curious, and not exactly. He died in a plane crash. It was over water, but I wouldn't qualify that as being on a bay.
@@lisachiappetti6092 it was a plane crash in a lake where him and majority of the barkeys drowned. A lot of them didn’t die on impact. It was also because a lot of them were strapped in seatbelts and couldn’t get out as the plane sunk. He recorded the last run of the song three days before the crash. But it’s the water association with it for me that’s foreboding.
Johnny Cash's version of Hurt definitely should have been on here. Apparently when he played it for his daughter she said it sounded like he was saying goodbye and he responded that he was. I love the original, but hearing it from Johnny Cash's point of view is just so hauntingly beautiful and it's amazing how one song can mean two totally different things depending on who's doing it.
Even Trent Reznor said the song belonged to Cash now
I can’t listen to Linkin Park without tearing up because of Chester. Chester was my favorite singer in the band. May he Rest In Peace. He’s gone but not forgotten
To be very honest Lost by linkin park is so much more sad to me
One more Light also hits hard, given the lyrics literally say "Who cares if one more light goes out"
@@arvurebantra7639 its like he was literally telling us but we weren't listening... makes me think of him and my mom since she passed
@@TerraJ-ug6nc I was listening. I was a victim of abuse like he was, I struggled with my demons like he did.
For me it's Roads Untraveled
As a LINKIN PARK fan since 2007(please don’t judge me for being seven years later then usual) Chester has saved me in so many ways🥹(that I would rather not explain because it’s personal). He saved us, but we couldn’t save him😭
Edit: at 33 I still get very emotional to the point where I can’t talk without feeling like crying whenever I hear Chester’s voice(whether singing or talking), I wish we could’ve saved him and known his pain
It must be noted that prior to Freddy mercury dying he released a beutiful song "Days of our lives"It is an incredible song!
Thank you for mentioning David Bowie! His last song on Blackstar, "I can't give everything away", brings me to tears every time.
Life on Mars gets to me because it was one of the last public appearances of David Bowie.
Every line in Floating In The Forth is a cry for help, Scott Hutchison is still missed by so many to this day
I grow up with Linkin Park and Chester was one of the celebreties for me, where I cried when he died.
I have depression on my own and totally get the felling to end up your life, until today I can't listen anymore to the songs, it's just heartbroken for me and I feel so bad about it...
The entire album of One More Light by Linkin Park is essentially just a giant suicide note. You can hear the struggle in the lyrics of that album but many of Linkin Park's songs talk about the struggle of mental illness.
Chester Bennington & Mike Shinoda both wrote the lyrics for the linkin park songs. I know it gets lost cause of how the lyrics take a whole new meaning now that Chester is gone. But that band is my favorite of all time, without them I’m not here. Love you Chester lucky to have met you and take pic with you at lpu meet and greet. 320
That's awesome you got to meet him. I at least saw them in 2000 in concert. That show was immortalized in the Live in Texas CD. I'm in that crowd screaming my lungs out.
Thank you for adding Our Lady Peace-Whatever.. It has always will be a story telling song before and after the tragedy.
It's my favorite song ever. I can still listen to it over and over. It's heartbreaking after Chester's death, though.
Chris Cornell's vocals in Like A Stone will never cease to give me chills from the raw emotion and pain in his voice as he sings. A legend who deserved more ❤RIP Chris Cornell.
David Bowie wasn't only one of the most influental rock stars, he would change his entire style and personality every seven years because that is the time it takes for body to be fully rebuilt and replaced with deifferent bodycells of the same DNA.
With Freddie, his final song was Mother Love. With The Show Must Go On, that song was his perfect send-off. However, the video to Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow hits hard cause it shows everything Freddie went through. The stigma of having HIV/AIDS and showing how it spreads throughout the body.
