    So good to see the comparison of these! Would have to go with the larger one myself. Thanks JT!

    I like Spyderco, I own 9 of them. But where they really fall down is their budget line, it's just like they gave up and are counting on people that don't know any better buying it because of the logo on the side. Even their own budget brand beats these, the Byrd line, there's no reason at all these should be more expensive, except they know people will pay more for that spyder etched on them.

    I hope they stick with a similar layout for the wire clip and lanyard tube on future releases.

    I’m very excited to get an Insistent. The Efficient was my very first Spyderco and second pocket knife. I turned me into a big Spyderco fan. I freakin’ love the wire clip so I’m happy as hell that they put it on the Insistent.
    Thanks for the great video.

    I'm feelin the Insistent. I never mind 8cr13mov. The price at $40 is a little high considering what you can get these days from other brands. I still kinda want one.

      Everyday City Carry I feel exactly the same. I just told my brother the same. Tried to get him a Civivi and he waited for this instead ... and then I got him a praxis to show him what you can get for even less !! But I love that they made this And I want one for myself too!

    I have only 2 Spydies (Manix and Native, both LW) and 3 Byrds (Robin, Crow and Cara Cara).
    For me that pretty much covers all the bases, but ofcourse I'll still be wanting more ... like a Chaparral, and a Shaman, and perhaps also a Para 3LW ... So I can't spare the money for buying these or other 'budget' models😧 Although maybe someday I'll be needing a replacement for the best budget Spydie ever made: a Ganzo FM759🤐

    They were off my radar until Spyderco’s seconds sale this week. $27 & $16 for each. That makes it a do-able deal. We’ll see what the defects are when they arrive.

    I really like the look. The action is good. I don't mind 8cr13 would I prefer a better steel yes. Like the wire clip. This line may very well be worth a try. I like the look and the fact it is G10 and not FRN or GRN is a plus.

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. More and more the FRN becomes less appealing to me.

  • @mewithknives3481
    @mewithknives3481 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For me I'd get the insistent. I debated between the tenacious and the polestar and chose the polestar due to the steel upgrade and grey g10. I generally don't mind 8cr13mov if there's another factor in play for example the Kershaw induction with hawk lock.

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point. And yeah, the Polestar has that upgrade but the G10 just looks super cool.

    Just bought an Emphasis today (04/25/2023). I love the looks. The blade reminds me so much of the Shaman which is my favorite Spyderco. I love the ergonomics. Very comfortable in all grips except blade in reverse grip. I don't use that anyway. Are these knives also made by Sanrenmu?

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure Spyderco has ever revealed who makes their Chinese knives. Generally, they seem to do a very good job though. And in my experience they're always extremely sharp from factory.

  • @JamEWalsh
    @JamEWalsh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for such a thoughtful video! I just picked up an Insistent and the ergonomics are fantastic, especially considering its size. It just feels really comfortable in the hand, although surprisingly heavy. The blade grind on mine is pretty terrible out of the box though - weirdly uneven and inconsistent. That said, I need to work on my sharpening skill so no worries. :) I do wish the action wasn't so gummy/stiff. After disassembling and cleaning it up (very dirty for a brand-new knife) it's not really much better. Maybe it's the (plastic? teflon?) washers? I'm curious to see how it breaks in. All-in-all it's a handsome, ergonomic little beater of a knife!

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've noticed a sort of odd action of all the Efficient models. Bummer yours had a bad grind, but it'll still be a useful little beater I'm sure. Thanks for checking out my video!

    Waiting for an Emphasis fixed blade and Insistent LW. Spyderco should rename their 8cr to something more catchy for the snobs. Like SPM-813V.

    Normally I would go for the smaller model In a series like this but something about the Emphasis really catches my eye.. I love the lines of that knife! I know you usually prefer medium to small knives, but does the Insistent seem too squat and tall? Great first look at these two, JT!

    My Emphasis arrived Thursday.
    In my eyes. This Emphasis, is Spyderco design and size perfection!
    I've been following this one closely, ever since I saw pictures and video of it. Coming from the March 2019 Spyderco Amsterdam Meet. I have slowing been going crazy, ever since!
    It was also overdue. It was in Reveal #2, but didn't come out until after Reveal #3 was published (Spyderco likes to torture me, sometimes:).
    It's my very first, Spyderco value folder.
    : - )
    My pocket-clip does not have nearly enough gap though. 0.064" only. That's gotta get fixed. Is yours the same?
    A hard caliper squeeze, on a few different jeans pockets of mine. Show me that we need at *least* 0.080" - 0.090".
    If you are subscribed to the Spyderco Byte Newsletter? They had a picture of it in there. An in-pocket picture. Where even then, taking that picture. They couldn't even get it all of the way down in that pocket.
    One of my washers, arrived buggered-up too. So it's down for repairs already!
    : - )
    It came apart very easily though.
    I still love the darn thing though, and will keep this one forever.
    If you are going to keep yours? I'll send you a new set of PB washers. The original ones, are made of Nylotron. : - /

      @JTsKnifeLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't mind 8Cr13MoV in the least. It ain't S30V, but any moron can get it back sharp without much trouble. It's decent all purpose for normal daily tasks. Made into a flat ground blade, this steel makes excellent slicers.

    Teflon washers make me die inside.

    • @JTsKnifeLife
      @JTsKnifeLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Teflon in general isn't always bad. Some great knives with great action have teflon. But cheaper knives tend to be machined more roughly, and the teflon washers they use just aren't as good. I get what you mean though.
