1. Gas spectography (or however you spell that in English) isn't the method you're looking for to identify this type of material. 2. It could be black Teflon, but I guess we could have asked the manufacturer who sent you the actual knife for a review 😉 3. 6/8 = 3/4
Was thinking of buying one of these until I saw the plastic washers. Looks like Spyderco is going into the realm of cheap CRKT and Gerber knives, sad for them.
Wow, spyderco makes such absolute garbage knives. Even their high-end stuff is trash. I really don't understand how they're still in business. I have my share of Spydercos and the quality compared to civivi, we knives, rike, reate or Benchmade is simply atrocious. The most incredibly boring designs, flat, non-contoured g10, and sky high pricing. And before you tell me they're built that way so they're practical, go buy a box cutter or a fixed blade if you want practical.
99.98% of spyderco knives are ugly as hell, but as a cutting tool, they're hard to beat. The Osborne by the butterfly guys is a great looking knife, but it cuts like an axe. This thing is a sub $60 knife, why are you expecting high-end materials at that pricing?
@@rabbitslayer42 like I said originally, go buy a box cutter or fixed blade if you want practical. There is absolutely no excuse for this trash. I never said anything about materials other than the g10, and if you look at ANY civivi at this price, they completely shit all over these cheap models and a lot of their pricier models. Since we're talking materials though, how about D2 compared to 8cr. I think most people would rather have D2. I don't claim to be metal expert, I've just heard people like it better. Again, a shit knife for the price compared to civivi.

"Is black teflon a thing?" *glances at frying pan*
Lol
For polymer identification DSC is the first go-to instrument.
$56 for a $20 knife. FU Spyderco. The tip was crooked as well, 9:39 .
Too bad they didn't put emphasis on using washers of acceptable quality.
Spyderco going full z-hunter with the plastic.
FYI, maybe it’s because of this video, but they have now added bronze washers to the Emphasis. Just gave mine a cleaning and confirmed!!
I have an Efficient, from this same line- up. Couldnt get the action any better, as well as no ability to keep the blade centered...
Same here
Very nice screwdriver!
Thanks Nick 👍
How difficult would it be to add bronze washers? Could a person switch to basic bronze washers is the better question? Would it even be worth it?
Haven't seen washers like this before...
Holy crap...
If Nick compares this knife to having cholera, I'll pass.
Strange considering that even Byrd knives use bronze. (At least the backlock variants, I think the linerlock ones use teflon)
Tenacious is cheaper and has bronze washers too.

This looks more like a Byrd build to me. Did they just cheep out even more and just put a round hole on a Byrd?
Ahhhh. The spyderco emPHAsis :P
Wow, seriously Spyderco, nylon washers?
Who is this knife supposed to be made for?
and how much cost are those 2 washers saving, seriously
yes black Teflon is a thing.
Running their own brand down.
6/8...otherwise known as 3/4 #notabrilliantman
Musicians would disagree ;)
Peter G very true, and being an acoustician this is probably why he said it that way
It's a real shame. That's a great EDC design, but it ended up in the Chinese factory.

Plain Jane!
