Love watching new TH-camrs , I just subscribed. I’m a BK fan . I have the 7, 2-9’s, 2- 2’s , 16. Been wanting Esse for a very long time but never pulled the trigger. MY BK-9’s I stripped and patina both. Put micarta scales on them and they both kick ass. Great video, may pick one up someday
I bought a BK9 years ago and was intrigued by all the pro-BK-9 reviews I saw. So I pulled the trigger and got one. Then I find out that the freaking thing has skeletonized handles!!! What the hell? Then I was able to find failure videos of BK9's failing at those weak points on the skeletonized handle. So, a little pissed off, I did some research and decided to go with the Ontario RD9 which is 1/4" 5160 with non-skeletonized handles. Then I replaced the scales with orange TKC G10 handles. On Memorial Day weekend I did a little chopping contest between the BK9 and RD9. I have to say, I was a not impressed with the BK9. It kept slipping out of my hands (and I was wearing tacky leather gloves). The RD9 felt more comfortable and did more damage cutting. Now granite I did have the original black scales on the BK9 that everyone complains about. But still, the geometry of the handle wasn't that comfortable. Just a long opinion here, but that RD9 does a great job for the well under $100 that I paid for it. Too bad they are discontinued. I actually e-mailed Kabar to see if they will ever offer a non-skeletonized BK9 version and they said no.
@@Ruger44Redhawk I have multiple BK9s, I'm a a Beckerhead from WAY back. I've used some BK9s to the point I thought it was abuse, they survived grinning mud. To compare the BK9 and Junglas is a bit unfair. They both have similar warranties, heat treat and demographics. However, they do not have the same intent. The Junglas is a Machete/Long Knife(jungle forward) , the BK9 is more camp knife/combat blade(American West/Frontier) . Seriously, I can go more in depth, but my alcohol fueled mind is outpacing my typing at the moment. The older Camillus BK9 was full tang, only allowing for screw holes. The Ka-Bar version is, as you put it, skeletonized. I'd argue the Camillus version is inferior. The heat treat wasn't quite there with them. Ka-Bar took over and reduced the weight, improved the balance and improved the heat treat of the steel. Give that 9 a chance.
I have both the Junglas and the BK 9. Two of the best blades anywhere. You can very the steel but not the blades. I pair them both with a Mora, ferro rod and striker and a piece of fat wood. Ready to go at a moments notice.
Same! I've used them both, basically equally. The BK9 feels more nimble and can hold its own with the Junglas. I have three BK9's, including a modified one. I would be happy with either if only given one. If I had to choose, I'd say BK9, only because I had the BK9 first and I've been a Beckerhead for years.
@Murphnuge i only have one bk9 and I really love it,I done the g10 handle scales and gonna get me a good sheath for it somewhere, im saving up to buy a junglass,I have the esee6 i bought for a small edc knife but been wanting the full size one as well and I also think I want a bk7 im a knife freak lol
@@dannywhelchel4801I really don't think you can go wrong with a Becker. They are very affordable, Ka-Bar does great things with 1095 CroVan and the heat treat is always on point. The micarta makes a HUGE difference. Ethan's handle design is already perfectly laid out, but the grippiness of the micarta is something else. There are tons of great sheath makers out there, especially for Beckers. The ESEE Junglas is still very affordable and has a great warranty as well.
Love my Esee blades. I have the dark green Junglas with orange g10 scales. She demands respect when using thats for sure. Good overall video. My junglas is Def ny go to for end all survival scenarios. Id trust my life to thet blade
I just got my orange and venom green (because I'm sensible and have good taste) Junglas a couple of days ago. For perspective, it is roughly the same size as a Cold Steel Natchez Bowie. Pure awesomeness.
Nice video. I have a few Esee’s myself, really like each and every one . Don’t have the Junglas but I am sure it is a beast!. Just one question, where can I get the sheath for the Esee CR 2.5…? thanks
ESEE 4's handle is dogshit unless you're a smaller person, gave me major hotspots. I gave mine to an ex who uses it on her farm. But the Condor kukri I'll agree on, I have the K-tact and it's solid. Most of my knives have been replaced with magnacut. Hunting knives, MKC. For playing and camp chores, so far the new Limited Edition Ka-Bar Magnacut BK76 has been a solid performer and is at that 4" mark.
@@Swearengen1980 I've never had any issue with ESEEs handles and I don't have bitchmitts. I prefer ESEE, as they're US made. There's nothing wrong with Condor though. Magnacut ...meh, the jury is still out for me. Ethan did a phenomenal job with the BK16. The Magnacut 76, I've still gotta get more field time with it. I've only had mine since May.
@@Murphnuge I didn't say ESEE's, I said the ESEE 4. The 4 is notorious for having a terrible handle. I've seen countless people who had the same complaint as me. The Ashley Game Knife in s35vn on the other hand is a fantastic skinner because the handle is perfect. The Laser Strike has a great handle. I use an ESEE Izulu 2 as a neck knife on occasion. But the jury is still out on magnacut? How? The edge retention vs. abuse is insane while still being easy to sharpen. My MKC easily skins and processes a buck without needing to touch a strop at all, which is more than I can say for most other steels (unless it's a bitch to sharpen). I'm not just some collector, I'm a redneck who puts knives to work while camping, hunting, yard work. Magnacut is simply worth the money as an extremely well balanced blade in all categories. There is a difference in craftsmanship though. MKC's blades are superior to the BK76.
The width of the blade is 2", not thickness. You made me go back to be sure I didn't misspeak, in doing so I noticed I never mentioned the thickness. Thank you for bringing that to my attention!
