Excellent film. I love it.
There are many reasons why the whole drought disaster and solution to it don't make sense but if you suspend your disbelief this movie is an absolutely fantastic watch.
I tried to, but as soon as the main character started to shoot other planes, I couldn't help but ask myself what actually happens there. What if the people collecting the water do that so they can upkeep their version of Noah's ark, tending to plants and animals in a domed area in order to preserve them. We just don't know. We only see planes shooting at each other, and ultimately killing a lot of human beings for a reason that isn't explained.

The concept behind many post-apocalyptic movies ;-)
You can get water by burning fuel
Not just that - planes that don't exist and could never exist (like the hero four engined biplane and the giant villain airliner), and WWII models what are rare as is (the pirate Corsair and double fuselage Mustang). Also, apparently - runways for all of them?
WOW. What a profound film, touching on human resilience, the will to survive, moral dilemma and self-sacrifice, without a single line of dialog. Incredible.
You realize the larger plane was collecting water for thousands of others, mostly women and children, that will now die the horrible death of dehydration. She killed those innocent pilots risking their lives to bring water home for their families. They all died now, all for the greed of that one little anime monster.

I always liked to imagine that the first bandits weren't that bad and that they stopped cos they realised what she was doing not just cos they wanted more water
They probably thought she was poisoning the water at first, which is why they were shooting her. I mean, if you were desperate for water and you saw someone's plane dispensing an unidentified yellow substance to your only source of water, this is your brain.
Unidentified plane = idk who that is
Yellow = pee
pee = bad to drink
Yellow being shat on water = poison
Calculation: fuck her up
It's natural human brain thinking
But the last bandit was just flat out selfish. Nobody cares about that one.
