The physics are not really clear to me, but the sheer amount of worldbuilding in such a short time without the need for words is really, extremely astonishing! Awesome work!
The physics are inspired by the chemtrails/cloud seeding concept of pouring ultrafine-ground ions into the air in order to condense water and form clouds. It's an old discussion that Bill Gates revived and now has Harvard experimenting with.
@@kma3647 Ah, so they don't just let clouds, that already formed, rain down, but they also can form clouds out of thin air? Okay, this would make sense, thank you!
@@some_sewing_nerd what about the part where an aerodynamic object cannot remain in the air with all of that drag? when you get on the plane to take your holidays, why don't they just tow all the luggage in a big bag behind you and fit in more passengers? and clouds do form out of thin air. have you got your boosters yet?
@@rodgygormin No, they don't. There must be humidity for clouds to form. And if it didn't rain in the last years, the humidity isn't high enough for clouds to expand that fast, I would think.

That airplane she was flying immediately got my attention! It’s a modified OV-1 Mohawk that used to be in the Army inventory but has since been retired. Just an FYI. I thought it was pretty cool
Thanks for the info. I was searching for the plane then decided to check the comments. Thanks again.
A plane with the face of a helicopter.
Best airplane ever!
The upper wings actually comes from a PBY Catalina. Also, those pirates are using a twin version of the P-47 Thunderbolt (with tails ripped off a P-38 Lightning or maybe a P-61 Black Widow), a scrapped and modified J7W Shinden and an F4U Corsair.
Yep! Nice comment.

As a mechanic, I never get tired of the movie trope that hitting a control pannel (seperate from the actual mechanical parts of a machine) somehow fixes a major mechanical problem with the system.
Edit: It’s common that tapping or hitting certain items may end up getting them to work, when it’s the mechanical parts of the machine your hitting. It’s called “percussion maintenance”
But not when you’re hitting a keyboard seperate from the computer/mechanical electronics system that actually has the fault.
🤓
My sister bought a brand new car that you had to hit the dash to turn the radio on or off , eventually it got replaced under warranty
my dad had a 1986 chevy that died one day tring to get us home in -20 my dad did everything he could to tri and fix it after 45 minutes he got in the truck yelled please dont do this to my family and hit the dash board he then tried it and the chevy kicked over and got us home

you gotta love the idea of that many engines on a plane in the real world not many planes have that many engine's
I always though lighthouses were supposed to be a warning. Only time I've heard of them used in context of "hope" is religious texts and ... well.. consistency with reality isn't a high priority in those, so far as I have observed.
@@padrescout imagery can take on many meanings depending on the context

Also how the planes wouldn't be able to fly with a massive parachute behind them full of water.

Why shoot at someone that isn't equipped to capture water? Furthermore, after she flew into the cloud, there was more water. Common sense was in short supply as the rain.

Major salute to the folks who designed and animated the airplanes. Simply magnificent!
The refitted passenger jet was very cool.
one question tho... where the hell are the elevators on the modified airliner? while i'm aware that planes can control their pitch with airspeed in the event of elevator loss: a. that is with the actual lift of the elevator main wing (not control surface) still accounted for, and b. that was way too stable to be controlled via airspeed. and while i'm at it, why is there only one dude with his gear up??? certainly it's not that they don't have hydraulic fluid --, they're in planes, after all, that uses oil, and fuel, and plenty of other liquids to stay in the air.

@@aesir0784 ...I agree with you post but we are all busy dying. Death starts as soon as youre born.
No no no no, its not because they wan't to make it dramatic. Its just because everything that is animated will be the exact opposite of what actually will happen in real life
"Noooo, you can't just fly with a huge net at the back of your plane. There is to much air resistance. >:("

this ten-minute dialogue free film covered several scientific, philosophical, and human concepts with more clarity than most full-length live-action movies manage these days. Impressive and moving.
What scientific concepts did it cover? Nothing in this story was scientifically accurate.
One of the details I enjoy is that the initially antagonistic pilots of the smaller aircraft, once the cloud is turned to a proper storm are content to leave once their water jugs are filled, vs the big business that TAKES and TAKES and TAKES.
agree, some are just forced to do stuff to survive & when that is taken care of then what is the sense of a blood bath that nobody benefits from? So i agree, the little hints to a deeper story line is a nice addition.
Yep so true❤
Maybe it was providing water to thousands of people. She just killed those innocent pilots, wasted all the water they were taking back to their people and destroyed their plane, so their people will die the horrible death of dehydration. Yeah, totally cool.

I agree. That girl on the biplane was an horrible person, did you notice how she tried to take down that plane that was trying to catch water to drink? Imagine how many thirsty children were left to die because they didn't get there water.
You guys are soo negative people ... Lol
Clouds ...rain...the substance is biochemical. Clouds can be created. Already known on earth. Maybe this was a short explanation in the movie, but to understand how to create a cloud, you must dive into meteorology and chemistry. Before judging. And she was the only one making a difference. With her everyone had water. With the other, selfish people, there was maybe just a few drops of water.
Rain OR a cloud. Cloud is not handy for everyone. Rain is water for everyone ... ;) Just look at the heavy cloud at the end. And at the tanks with just a few drops. I say...go go girl without any help from the selfish idiots. She gave water to all kids and people! ;)
And then you realize... None of the planes had jet engines.
WOW. What a profound film, touching on human resilience, the will to survive, moral dilemma and self-sacrifice, without a single line of dialog. Incredible.
You realize the larger plane was collecting water for thousands of others, mostly women and children, that will now die the horrible death of dehydration. She killed those innocent pilots risking their lives to bring water home for their families. They all died now, all for the greed of that one little anime monster.
In a world where water is scarce, bullets and plane fuel are somehow everywhere.
Murica!
sorry, i belive you are talking about the middle east and north.
The concept behind many post-apocalyptic movies ;-)
You can get water by burning fuel
Not just that - planes that don't exist and could never exist (like the hero four engined biplane and the giant villain airliner), and WWII models what are rare as is (the pirate Corsair and double fuselage Mustang). Also, apparently - runways for all of them?

Yes, where are the F-35s? Presumably the last fighter jet the US military will ever make before drones start doing everything. Which makes me wonder, why did they even build that incredibly expensive, soon-to-be-obsolescent jet in the first place?
My Dad flew the OV-1 Mohawk in Vietnam. Buried him in Arlington National Cemetery in October, and heʻs been on my mind every day. Was stunned when I opened this movie and watched as his airplane appears (albeit with mods...lol). Thanks.

Brilliant short! Great thing about CG is you can create whatever you want. It doesn't have to be realistic or logical. If it touches your emotions, it has done its job. Great work. Well done.
RowDogSA if it is illogical or too unrealistic it ruins the immersion. But please continue to justify your preferences.

Очень трогательный фильм, это нельзя назвать мультфильм! Это именно рискованное кино.
There are many reasons why the whole drought disaster and solution to it don't make sense but if you suspend your disbelief this movie is an absolutely fantastic watch.
I tried to, but as soon as the main character started to shoot other planes, I couldn't help but ask myself what actually happens there. What if the people collecting the water do that so they can upkeep their version of Noah's ark, tending to plants and animals in a domed area in order to preserve them. We just don't know. We only see planes shooting at each other, and ultimately killing a lot of human beings for a reason that isn't explained.
In the end of this story, the actual word that hit me was ¨Sacrifice.¨ A sacrifice to kill all competition and increase the will of survival. She realized, individually we are one drop of water. Together we can be an ocean. Behold...The OceanMaker

put yourself in that small plane, she could not see the larger craft - it wasn't kamikaze...
@@errm1913 Then what?
I can definitely support the idea of fighting for what's right even against enemies stronger then yourself.
What this girl lacks though, given the importance of the invention she carries, is the concept of "live to fight another day".
Well said brother 🙏
While that’s true I think she thought it was already over, if you remember she got shot in the abdomen, and I doubt the post apocalyptic world has modern medicine or even doctors. So maybe she was screwed anyways and chose to go out with a bang rather than with a whimper.
@@Oofle_the_Worm agreed bro
@@Oofle_the_Worm Well, it was suicidal going after the heavily armored gunship in the firstplace.
@@austin3789 Risk of dying is present right at the beggining with the smaller gunners so in "cold-calculated-robotic action" she must retreat in search of a "unnoticed cloud"...she doesn't, so I assume clouds are very rare, fights are very common (sustaining action plot).
The main thing is...here risk/decision making must be permeated by human factors, because the short is not about pure logical thinking, the altruism of prioritizing a greater good over individual lives dying without guarantees is not robotical thinking...is a human decision (sustaining ideological plot).

the part of my brain that understands how clouds and physics work: that's now how clouds do, wat.
I mean cloud seeding is a real thing though I'm sure it wouldn't cause them to grow like that
but it's the future
Cloud seeding would make the cloud crystallize and fall down, not grow.

@@DonkeyHotey-l2e huh?
Are you mentally all right?
We have no idea where that big plane was going, or how many innocent people were on it and lost their lives in the kamikaze attack. Perhaps there was a greater good that was lost. Just because you think you’re doing the right and noble thing doesn’t mean you are.
Thought provoking film and well put together!
They sure shouldn't have shot down the other planes and shot at her, then. Don't start shit, don't get hit
Couldn’t agree more! But if the gunman shot the other plane down and there were 50 passengers on board, does that make them all murderers? Maybe it does.
Firetail use your imagination. Of course it isn’t a commercial flight in today’s world. Perhaps it’s full of refugees, perhaps there is an entire travelling community on board. Perhaps it is going back to a large drought-ridden community who are working on a bigger plan to save the planet, but need the water to survive. Just because the plane took aggressive action doesn’t mean that everyone on it and associated with it is inherently evil.
Just as a kamikaze attack doesn’t necessarily mean the main protagonist is evil. But we do know she was equally unwilling to share. Who is right, who is wrong... we don’t know enough about it to make such a snap judgement. Note that my comment says how good and thought provoking the film is - exactly for this reason.
Unfortunately it seems you have watched the film in one dimension, being taken in by the underdog of the story, character focus and music. As such you have accidentally made lots of assumptions and feel you know exactly who is right and wrong here, when in fact we all know very little. I hope you enjoyed it anyway though.
@@samdam108 if you're going to shoot at someone in a flying fortress, be ready to get taken out. By by community!
The_Big_B_man I don’t doubt that there was justification for self-defence, which is how it began. It’s interesting to see you pick a side in a battle and world you know nothing about, on the basis of a short video. I am truly enjoying seeing how quickly and emotionally people are reacting to the film. Neither of us know who was wrong and who was right there. But it’s very interesting to see people make so many assumptions because one plane is the biggest and collecting the most clouds.

someday, DUST is gonna become as big as (or even bigger than) the known film production companies out there. would gladly wait for that to happen.
I believe that too.
It isn't a production company. It certainly didn't make this short film.
As someone actively serving aboard an aircraft carrier, seeing the rusted out one towards the beginning kinda tugged at the feels a little. Imagine all the memories made onboard, good or bad, from goofing around in the engine room to the first time a sailor saw a takeoff and landing, now forgotten, as the sailors had to abandon their ship
The story, suspense at the end, the human war for water, the bitter truth of what is going on from the past 2 or 3 decades, all put together is this wonderful short film......
Keep it up and do make more vids,
