I took my 79 xs650 special for a ride and noticed when I returned that the key was missing from the ignition. I was rather flummoxed about this as that was my only key. I noticed that a series of numbers were on the face of the lock, so I took these to my lock smith where they had a blank key for the xs650 . They looked in a book and found a proper code in which to cut a new key. The new key would operate the ignition, seat lock and helmet lock but not the gas cap. I found I could pry up the gas cap enough to get the fasteners out, after that I removed the tumblers and used the gas cap normally but without the security of a proper key. I don’t know if this works for everyone but I feel lucky that it worked for me, good luck. 7:22
I wonder why your new key didn't work in your fuel cap ? I needed one for my SR500 The local locksmith had to order in the correct type of blank Yamaha key and took the number from my old damaged key When I went back he had received the blank key and cut it accordingly to information he'd gotten off the internet relative to the number from my original key and my new key was waiting to be picked up and worked on ignition fuel cap helmet lock and side cover lock
A dodgy-switch can damage your charging system on the old models . i'm experiencing the 'joys' of sorting-out charging, wiring etc. on an old 73TX . We don't have any suppliers in NZ for this kind of thing, not even oil-filters , so video's like yours are handy . A kwaka W650 is cheaper here, than a 'Sorted' XS-TX-650 . Dave NZ
I feel your pain trying to find parts around here can be a challenge to. I use a lot of toggle switches on a lot of my older motorcycles. Trying to find it on original key switch can be a daunting challenge. Thanks for watching.

Well I've looked for a decent wiring diagram but I can't seem to find one online without buying the manual. I don't know that much about your bike but I'll keep looking and see if I can come up with something.
It’s actually blue and brown boss or if it’s not working for you just trying the wire to wire to test it it’s still not getting spark to kit it over try switching the wires or hooking up a good battery cuz the coils are 12v
I’m not sure if this would work on my bike. It’s a 1979 yamaha special 850. Three carb three cylinder with a kickstarter and a push button start. I found a small switch on the left side and have no idea if it’s for lights or a kill switch. Never had a bike but ridden many. So I’m excited to get this one running and ride it
Bought a zzr 600 he lost the key so it starts with a toggle switch the only thing I can’t park and go into a shop or the bike will be stolen I have the ignition out would I be better off going to a lock smith and getting a key cut for the ignition and reconnect it so il also have the steering lock again 👍
Well going to a locksmith would solve your problem hopefully you'd also be able to open the fuel tank cap. I've also noticed on eBay that for about 29 bucks you get an ignition switch with key and gas cap. You could always buy a rotor lock when nobody's going to steal your bike then. hello, I just started restoring an 82 650 heritage special and noticed that there is nothing on the side stand that comes close to activating the side stand switch looks like something is missing, but not sure what. Please help
You don't need the side stand switch the bike will start and run fine without it. That was only put there for a safety reason for dumbasses that didn't put the bike in neutral when starting. Hence that's where we have a neutral light. Thanks for watching

A good locksmith can pick the lock with a key decoder and cut a new key, if you can afford it and want to keep it all original.
I prefer a toggle switch that I can hide much easier to replace much easier to hide. Thanks for watching.

So I loss my ssr key the only one I had if I order an ignition switch with keys would I be able to start my bike ?
Well it depends on if you bought one for your bike then I would say yeah it would work if you bought something else I'm not sure.

Will this work with my 2003 ccm R30 ?
I don't know that much about the CCMs but if it's a three-wire ignition switch system I don't see why it would work. Thanks for watching.
