    I have always wanted to be in the OR as a nurse. My biggest fear is working with people that forgot what it’s like to be new. Because I have had this experience at a job and I had to fight for 8-12 months to gain their respect to show I could learn the job and it ended up being the best job I’ve ever had BUT that first 8 months was HARD.
    I can handle the hard nature of being new and not knowing anything but I would hate to have surgeons yelling at me as if I’ve been there for years !

    Hey hey! I'm a Surgical Technologist and I understand how you feel! I started actually as a LPN nurse and nursing wasn't my thing! People are to whiny, so I went back to school for my degree in Surgical Technology which I love! Our nurses and surgery team I work with are great! I hate that you had such a bad experience! Nursing has multiple options, hopefully you will find your area of care!

    I've been a surgical tech for 30+ years and a OR Nurse for 2 years and COMPLETELY understand. This is why I became a Nurse , so I can have different work options. OR is tough, and I find it's getting worse over time. Hospitals are not putting enough resources into the biggest money maker in these facilities, and it creates a toxic and hostile work environment for the patient ( who are unaware of this and the staff as a whole. )
    Poor management causes good people to leave, and the one who stay become cynical and give up hope. If a nurse, particularly someone new to the OR is not sure during the count I would always repeat and show what I have to give peace of mind and we can be on the same page. You did the right thing MOVE ON.

    I am the opposite, I actually want to scrub. I worked as a supply tech in the OR and of all the roles, I'm attracted to scrubbing. My interview for residency is today. Fingers crossed!

    That’s a toxic environment. I don’t like mean nurses who don’t help new grad nurses. Karma is a B!

    Hi nurse B. Thank you so much for sharing! I have an interview for the OR tomorrow, and i am so nervous exactly about these things that you are saying. I feel like we have a similar personality and I'm afraid I wont have the personality for the OR. I don't take well to toxic work environments, I don't like getting yelled at by physicians for no apparent reason. There's a way you speak to people and it's unnecessary to be rude to someone new. And I am QUICK to leave a toxic job. I am so nervous now but I appreciate you keeping it all the real.

      Thank you for sharing both of your thoughts.
      Being an OR Nurse is actually one of my dreams when I was in college.
      I haven't had a chance to fulfill it years back due to being assigned in other nursing set up.
      However,I will be starting to work as OR nurse hopefully next week.🙏
      I won't let my fear,any discrimination,or bullying get into my way.
      As long I am eager to learn, harmonious in the work place and be skilled.
      I will do my best to be a great nurse and God help me.🙏

    I left you a few messages at your channel. I have the same background as you did. I was med-surg /tele nurse went to the OR. I watched your interview video and get offered the job. I thought I could finally get out from med-surg and get the " easy specialty". Seriously was thinking about retire at the OR. I was very very confused when I watched you this video after I first OR position, I thought you should have just stay and learn more, even though you hate scrubbing.
    After 2 months at the OR, I quit. Asking for the reason, OMG, girl, EXCTALLY THE SAME AS YOU SAME AT THIS VIDEO!! The surgical techs are so mean, so mean!! They think they are one of those surgeons!! They talked to me like I am shit!! But I didn't go to surgical tech school at all!! And of course I have to do scrub orientation with those mean techs!!! The management don't do anything of the thechs' attitudes!
    I also just hate the 5 days a week schedule!! I was so tired after 8 hours of orientating at the OR, when I came back, I couldn't do anything!!!

    I literally watched this months ago when I couldn't decide between OR and endoscopy. I chose OR. Today I called endoscopy because I really regret choosing the OR. I literally had a panic attack today due to the toxicity in the OR. Everyone in endoscopy seemed so happy and I can't wait to transfer! I wish I had not wasted my time with OR. However, I will now be even more eternally grateful. No job is worth your mental health!

    Hi, I decided to move to the Endo department after two weeks of orientation in the OR at the new hospital. The reason why I transfer to Endo exactly the same as what you said..(Shift and employee attitude issues and so on) However, I have 10 years of experience in the OR(even it’s not in the US, back in my country), so I'm worried if I can adapt well in Endo. You know, the OR nurses usually don't do IV. Is there a huge gap between Endo work and OR work?
    I’d like to hear your experience. Is the endo job less stressful than the OR? And is it possible for Endo to work three days a week for 36 hours?
    I'll wait for your comments! Thank you.

    I have an interview for the OR. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am applying for for an OR nurse residency at a large medical center.
    Did you work at a large hospital or a small facility?

    How did you explain your short stay there to your next employer? 😭 I always worry about that when leaving a job so soon

    • @luvnurseb5552
      @luvnurseb5552  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Sonya thanks for watching. Luckily, I've never had an employer grill me too hard about my short stay in the OR. i was pretty honest with them, by telling them it wasn't what I thought it would be, what I did like and what I didn't like, and then quickly segway into why I think the new job will be more aligned with what I'm looking for. Usually they are pretty receptive and understanding because its better to recognize that a job isn't the right fit early on, than to stick around for 1 yr or more being miserable and unhappy.

    Did you go through a Periop 101 program?

    • @luvnurseb5552
      @luvnurseb5552  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi! Yes I did. They made us go to whats called a periop "consorsium(probably spelling this wrong)" so its basically like this big 2 day course where all the new OR nurses from all the major hospitals in the city get together at this conference to learn the basics of OR stuff( some stuff was helpful, other stuff wasnt). Then when I got to the hospital, there were like all these modules online I had to complete during the orientation that was more detailed, again, all about OR stuff.
