So many people look down on community college, but as someone who is graduating from a cc and transferring it was the beat choice I made. This is what I am planning to do. I am finishing my junior year in hs and want to be a nurse. After graduating I’m planning on going to cc for prerequisites than transferring to my state university’s program. My fear is that I won’t get accepted into it even with good grades because I heard it’s harder for transfers. Even the cc nursing program is hard to get into because there are soo many applicants.
Yasmine I was told the opposite! When taking to a counselor of a college, they told me transfers are likely to get accepted because they have the college experience and are more safe to take in!

I feel like every nurse should become a CNA before stepping into the nursing field. I’m a CNA and most nurses don’t understand how hard working CNA’s actually are. CNA’s are for sure under appreciated. The only two charge nurses who have ever helped me with patient care were two nurses who were CNA’s before. I want to go to school for nursing but whew, it is soooo long
Mailia Xiong agreed. All nurses should be CNAs before getting into nursing school! I worked as a CNA for almost a decade before becoming a nurse and it really helped me be a better nurse. I definitely think you should go for your RN! It’s long and god it’s hard but it’s so worth it :)
I agree 100%. I believe the state of Washington is making CNA experience a requirement for nursing school. I was a CNA all through nursing school, and I loved it. If you work in a hospital as a CNA you may find that nurses are soooo much more helpful since they don't have such a crazy patient load.
I will be a nurse without being a CNA first. But just because I wasn't a CNA first doesn't mean I will treat a CNA below me. We are all there for one thing. And that is patient care. Regardless of out title. CNA, LVN, RN..
I even suggest, if possible, volunteering as a high school student before that. I've learned so much about bedside care and how to actually treat patients by simply volunteering at my local hospital for emergency and physical therapy
I'm a CNA too, and that's true. The nurses that help are usually nurses that used to be CNAs. They know what we go through. I've been a CNA for 2 years and on the road to become a nurse in 2 years as well. I'm in an RN program at a community college.

Every word of this is absolute truth. 😳 Nursing school was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but I’ve been a nurse for almost three years now and I am loving it. Also guys don’t forget about specialty clinics! I’ve been working with an ophthalmologist for the past few years and it’s really neat stuff.

Needed this video!! Just graduated with my bachelors in nutrition but I had a change of heart and want to be an RN instead of an RD. Ultimate goal is becoming a CRNP. I’m extremely nervous but excited to finally feel like my life is going in the direction I want it to.
Yaaassss!!! I'm currently in my last semester of my ADN program and can't wait to graduate!! I'll be one more latina in the field!! :) I hope to make it to NP school after I finish my BSN! Let's goooo!
I changed my dream profession to nursing about a year ago and this video gave me the extra push I needed. I was having so many doubts, thank you for sharing your journey 💗! More nursing videos will be highly appreciated lol, love you❤
The intro is exactly how I feel right now! I’m so close to applying to nursing school and I’m like what am I doing? Idk if I belong here… but I’m not giving up!
IN LPN here. Used to do pediatric homecare. Fulfilling but emotional. Have done psych floor nursing, substance abuse, and now do intake at the psych facility and visiting wellness nurse for Medicaid waiver clients. Currently looking for bridge program online. I think what you've accomplished is awesome and you should be very proud!
Basically everyone in my family is a nurse and, while I am way too afraid of blood to become one myself, it did inspire me to work in the mental health field with developmentally delayed individuals and physically disabled individuals. I am honestly so proud of you penny! It scares me when you see some of the people kids have to "look up to" nowadays, but you provide an actual good example! You are kind, intelligent, creative and hard working! No doubt you will inspire many girls and boys to not only pursue their dreams, but to pursue their dreams that add value to the lives of others. You truly radiate God's love and kindness. Thank you and I wish you the best of luck in your new job! You will do great!!!:-)
Pennnnayyyyy!! First of, I love you and thank you for sharing your journey. Nursing school is no joke. The NCLEX is no joke. I failed the NCLEX once and I still haven't retaken it cause I'm still in a funk about it, but I'm back on the grind on studying. So hopefully one day, soon, I'll schedule my exam and PASS!!
I was really afraid to watch this video because I'm in the process of trying to become a nurse, and it's just been so hard for the last year with my classes. So I've been avoiding nurse related topics. But I needed to hear that I'm not the only one that has been struggling. Thank u for making this video ❤
Thank you for posting your experience, Penny. I'm currently working on my BA to become a teacher-librarian, and let me tell you! This encourages me to continue to work hard and not give up on the end goal. I'm so proud of all of your accomplishments. It's only up from here.
good for you for not giving up on your ambition! my mom also failed medical school the first time, but now she's an accomplished doctor! good luck and be safe!
i’m a sophomore in highschool and i just recently applied to a program offered by an awesome college in my state . this video was very much needed!! thank you for the motivation it really gives me an insane drive to work and study harder !
It takes a special person to be a nurse. All my nurse friends have the most caring souls. So much respect for you! Especially as the first person in your family to go to college. First gen grad gang gang
I was on the chancellor’s/dean’s list before nursing school (no longer on it but that’s okay). Honestly the studying/getting thrown into the unfamiliar was fine, but the HARDEST part of nursing is balancing everything else life throws at you. (Depression, financial problems, death, pregnancy, etc.) The key to nursing school is PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION! As my homie, Winston Churchill, once said, “continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential.” 💟
I appreciate this video so much! ❣️ I just finished my C.N.A. program and my goal is to become a R.N. like my father. I know the journey will be difficult but I know it’s worth it! Much love Penny!
I'm in the process of getting my nurse aid certification and planning to become a nurse. I finished all the prerequisites and applied to 2 schools. Got accepted into both schools but not the program 😑. Persistence is key! I'm going to work as a cna and I'm determined to become a nurse no matter what it takes!
Ahh I did all these things and end up failing, it’s been like 3 years now that I’ve held my education. I really regretted giving up because now I’m in even worse position, due to Covid and struggling to even find a job that can help cover for all my financial expenses…idk if I should go back to school and try again. I’m so scared of failure again, considering I don’t have that kind of support(money) as others do. I literally been working to provide to help my single mother and my siblings. Now we are all grown up, I am left behind in further debt.
When I had friends who would join the nursing program I would wave bye to them after we would hangout because I knew it would be a while before I would see them again. Since they would spend the majority of their time in their dorms studying
Im currently applying to be in the nursing program and honestly thank you for being so candid about how absolutely grueling it is! Sometimes you feel like you are the only one struggling but it’s so refreshing to see that you aren’t the only one and that it is completely normal to be overwhelmed but not impossible to overcome
When I took the Nclex after finishing school I only waited 3 weeks. I think scheduling your test date the farther you are out of nursing school can increase your risk of failing. At my school, the last semester centered around Nclex testing. So basically every single exam that semester was EVERYTHING we've learned throughout the program. This made it so when I took the Nclex only a few weeks after graduating everything was still fresh. Just advise from another RN.
yes penny!!! congrats on passing the nclex and getting your bsn I just graduated in december with my bsn and passed the nclex a couple of weeks ago! after 4 and a half years, i'm finally an RN! I will be in OR nursing and my new job started this week :) so proud of you and us as nurses! :)
After a week stay in the hospital I decided I’d like to work there but it’s not easy to get in. I was persistent and less than a year later I got a full time overnight position as a patient transporter. After working there a year I decided I wanting to go back to school after ten years and pursue a degree in nursing. I was never good in school as a youngster but when u want something enough u can do it. I just finished all my pre-reqs with a 4.0gpa and was accepted to my school’s program!! So excited but also nervous. I hope I do well wish me luck!
I was loving the idea of studying as a nurse until I was told my grades are severely low to even consider it. At least they were honest. Congrats on surviving for the past 5 years Penny!
A. Fox still apply!!!!!! i have a friend in nursing school who was told their scores were not competitive enough to get in by her advisor and she applied anyway and got in and is doing great!! don’t give up if nursing is an actual dream of yours 🌟
OH MY GOODNESS THANK YOU! I really want to pursue a career in medical, such as nursing or a full on doctor, and this is just the perfect push of motivation. Thank you so much 💕
My advice…make friends with pupils ahead of you. Ask them questions and trust me they got tips for days!!! Some might not give in, but the eventually crack once they see that you for real needed help. That’s part of the few things I did.
Im in the nursing program at my local community college ! Just started last month, doing my BSN online when I finish too. And you are so inspiring. 🤓❤️❤️
I just started my first year of nursing school and I’m absolutely mortified I will fail. This video gave me hope and more willpower to do well. Thank you penny 💕
Yooo.... I'm in school for animal biology rn. Second year and I failed all but one exam last semester...I feel like I'm wasting my time, but here I am still doing this. My motto is: choose something that you love, because some days the love is going to be the only thing you have.
I just graduated my registered nursing degree program this month in Canada and I’m studying for the NCLEX right now- I am so happy I watched this- the journey to diploma vs degree nursing in the states always confused me! Here in Saskatchewan Canada you can’t even take the NCLEX without a bachelors degree. Congrats Penny we made it 😛
I really appreciate your videos where you talk about nursing!! It helped me so much to hear you, someone that comes off as very relatable & accessible, talk candidly about your experiences. I always felt so distanced and disconnected from any medical field type professions because I knew they all required long grueling years of study & prerequisites, which weren't something I felt I was capable of completing, nor did I think I had any interest in the medical field. I recently decided that I want to become a certified medical assistant - not exactly the same thing as I'm sure you know, but it feels so right to set this goal for myself. I've always wanted to help people in whatever career I ended up in. I'm so grateful to have seen your videos because it helped me to picture myself in a more medical setting. And knowing how smart you are and how much hard work you put into studying and preparing for your career has helped to remind me that I'm smart and I can work hard to develop a career for myself as well. I wish you success at your new job, Penny!
I want to be a pediatrician and honestly, I do not know how to start. Before watching this I felt like I should have just given up before even starting. But you helped me realize that I am not stupid and that I can learn and succeed. I really want to help kids and I really want to be someone who my parents AND MYSELF can be proud of, so thank you! AND CONGRATS!! HIGHEST HONORS!!
I am in my 1st semester of my senior year in a nursing program. I randomly found your channel!!!! And I can't tell how I relate to this video. I love your energy and the way you do your videos!!! New subscriber here!!!!

Also guys don’t forget about specialty clinics! I’ve been working with an ophthalmologist for the past few years and it’s really neat stuff.
I am only an LPN but took an accelerated course myself finishing in 10 months and I can totally relate when it comes to taking a test or even multiple a week and the feeling of getting a bad grade and how devasting it can be. SUPER PROUD of you for completing not only nursing school but even the NCLEX even if it was the second try ! I know how CRAZY NERVE WRecking taking the NCLEx can be ! GET IT PENNY !
why am i crying
WHY AM I CRYING
🥺 I’m so proud of u
🥺💕
More nursing videos will be highly appreciated lol, love you❤
Just passed the NCLEX two days ago, about to start as a new grad on the ICU float team 😭😭
Congratulations!
The intro is exactly how I feel right now! I’m so close to applying to nursing school and I’m like what am I doing? Idk if I belong here… but I’m not giving up!

9:53 you made me cry Penny you're such an inspiration congrats u deserve it BESOS DESDE COLOMBIA ❤❤❤❤
Omg, imagine going to the doc and Penny walks in ! Congrats on your success girl!
YES girl!! Im an LPN now but back in school to get my BSN!! woooo
You will do great!!!:-)
I went back to school to become a nurse and honestly this helps so much. Thank you!
Currently doing my prerequisites for nursing school ♥️ I hope n pray everyone else doing prereqs will learn the most and become amazing nurses!
Pennnnayyyyy!! First of, I love you and thank you for sharing your journey. Nursing school is no joke. The NCLEX is no joke. I failed the NCLEX once and I still haven't retaken it cause I'm still in a funk about it, but I'm back on the grind on studying. So hopefully one day, soon, I'll schedule my exam and PASS!!
when “Bill & Melinda Gates” sponsoring this video is NOT A JOKE !!? 🤯🤩🥳
i’m in nursing school right now and the struggle is so real 😭😭
When you said bill and Melinda I thought you were definitely joking 😂
I was really afraid to watch this video because I'm in the process of trying to become a nurse, and it's just been so hard for the last year with my classes. So I've been avoiding nurse related topics. But I needed to hear that I'm not the only one that has been struggling. Thank u for making this video ❤
I’m so lost idk what to do rn. If u looking back on this, don’t stop, go after what u think is best. If it fails, try again
Did you end up doing it ?
It takes a special person to be a nurse. All my nurse friends have the most caring souls. So much respect for you! Especially as the first person in your family to go to college. First gen grad gang gang
I was on the chancellor’s/dean’s list before nursing school (no longer on it but that’s okay). Honestly the studying/getting thrown into the unfamiliar was fine, but the HARDEST part of nursing is balancing everything else life throws at you.
(Depression, financial problems, death, pregnancy, etc.)
The key to nursing school is PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION! As my homie, Winston Churchill, once said, “continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential.”
💟
Just advise from another RN.
yes penny!!! congrats on passing the nclex and getting your bsn
I just graduated in december with my bsn and passed the nclex a couple of weeks ago! after 4 and a half years, i'm finally an RN! I will be in OR nursing and my new job started this week :) so proud of you and us as nurses! :)
my hands get shaky just by WRITING so imagine ME as a nurse holy bejeebus
I didn't even think of my shaky af hands until you said that..
..
looks like it's time for a new career choice lmao
There are so many ways to become a nurse, I am so inspired by your story. Thank you for sharing!
I graduate in May 2020 with my BSN and you’ve been such an inspiration ! I love you and your videos! Good luck on your first day! So proud of you!
Congrats Penny we made it 😛
I don't even know if diploma programs exist anymore in the US. The only diploma nurses I know graduated in the 1960's.
I am currently working as a CNA in my high school, so thank you so much for this video Penny !!! Love yah
I’m doing my prerequisites right now! I did my CNA back in December! My stress level is up but that’s okay!
I interviewed for a maintenance position at a university. Once they told me part of the job would be to clean the cadaver lab I was outta there.
HIGHEST HONORS!!
woah, I'm so proud of this curly, Latina queen! how often do peoples videos get sponsered by BILL GATES!?!
I really love to be a nurse and I'm working so hard towards it
Where’ve u been girlllllll we’ve missed you 🙇🏻♀️❤️!
I've been working (: just got my first nursing job!
Penny Tovar YAAAS well done girl!!
Congratulations Penny! You have made it with your consistent efforts. Good luck on your job.
What is crazy is that a "C" in some nursing programs is at 78% or 80% lol Luckily, my program is a 75%, pero like its still scary.
I am in my 1st semester of my senior year in a nursing program. I randomly found your channel!!!! And I can't tell how I relate to this video. I love your energy and the way you do your videos!!! New subscriber here!!!!
YEESSSS I’m currently in hs and my dream is to become a RN and your one of my biggest inspiration 🥺❤️
Literally broke down every week in nursing school.
Really makes you reconsider your life but best thing I ever did
Haven’t seen this yet (obviously😬) but thanks for uploading this! I’m taking a gap year next school year but after that I plan on going to school so I can become a registered nurse :)
wowww u really inspire me to do better for myself congratulations to you!!❤️❤️
True inspiration
*sees video and clicks*
Guess I’m a nurse now 🤷♀️
literally just came back from taking my first peds exam, third year, thought about quitting multiple times and its HARD but when you KNOW this is what you want you make it through 💪
