I live in east Tennessee and here the cherokee influence is really big, especially up in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, it's even bigger up there. When I was in elementary school everyone always had a contest to see who had the most cherokee in them and whoever had the most won bragging rights.
I got you beat. My ancestors settled in what was known as the Connecticut Valley in 1630. There were Mohawks. In fact the western part of Massachusetts has the famous Mohawk Trail. Since you're from Tennessee, you should know that the beginning of the Appalachian Trail-heading South-starts just a couple of miles from North Adams where my parents are from.
I’m related to Sequoyah (the Cherokee man who created the Tsalagi written language. Because of him the Cherokee were the first tribe to have a written language. My dad has done extensive research on our family tree over the years. I’m a little over 25% Cherokee and some Seminole. My maternal grandfather is full while my dad is somewhere around 12%
I watched the Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge, TN and the part in the begining with this song was simply beautiful. With the dances and everything it almost brought me to tears =)
this is the first time for me to hear Dolly sing this song. Immediately goose bumps flowed thru my entire body...a most welcoming chill. It felt like a Healing movement...how appropriate since it is songs from The People of The First Light. How fortunate for anyone to be in the Presence of Such a High Being as Dolly is. I have great physical strength...my spirit is powerful...yet I find myself to bow in her presence or even the thought of Her..Her Strengths Greater than mine residing in such a small frame...yet we are a great asset to one another..for this world...teaching all how to be strong no matter ones gender, size or culture. The Wise stand in Awe of/to Her. She Is The epitome of Goddess Shekinah...indeed. Thank you, louihowe for making this vid available for us to enjoy 'n come to know. Namaste All`
Having Cherokee blood in me! But sadly I’m not in Tennessee :( but I’m going to Tennessee today! I’m so excited I’ve been there before anddddddd :D I LOVED IT SO MUCHQ
In the eyes of my family that makes you pure Cherokee it doesn’t matter what else is in your blood if what is in your heart is of shakonahey you are tslagi
Years ago I named my 1st daughter Jolene because I liked the song so much. I was so young that I didn't understand that You should know what a name means before giving it to someone... But to me Jolene is still a Beautiful name and I gave it to my 1st Born Beautiful Daughter...
Gorgeous! Went to the Stampede with the fam over the weekend…this has been stuck in my head since. I have a great-great grandma who was full blood Cherokee…I wonder if that’s why my heart responded?
I just love that song Sha Kono Hey. I'm proud to have Cherokee blood. Shame on the white men and what they did to the Cherokee. The Cherokee will rise again when it's time and after hearing that song I now want learn to speak Cherokee thank you and God bless you

Osiyo; daquadoa hia Yonv Gago Danidoga; ayv Ani Tsalagi ale Ani Chickasaw; hello; my name is Standing Bear; I am of The Cherokee People & The Chickasaw People. The name sung, although no issue, is actually, if I am not mistaken in my recognition of the sound, sa-go-ni-ge, which means blue, occurring throughout history, such as Tennessee, which was a Cherokee name. The name Tennessee of course spelled, & pronounced slightly different than the Cherokee origin. Wadan; (many people recognizing this of course); thank you. (In Cherokee, "v," is pronounced "a," & a as "ah,").
The CD is called Sha-Kon-O-Hey! Land of Blue Smoke. It’s available on Amazon and EBay but it’s pretty pricey because it’s rare. They only sold it at Dollywood in 2009 for a limited time. I actually just got it on eBay used. There’s an eBay auction right now that’s $25.00 brand new. I’ve seen it priced at $50 or so. This song made me really want the whole cd too! I hope you’re able to get it! 😁
I love the chorus so much in this song 😄😄 and omg everyone needs to stop saying they have Cherokee blood if you are less than 1/4 Cherokee Indian it does not count ok do we have that clear
Gerri Petress Well I'm going to go ahead and guess that you're a raging six year old based off of the amount of grammatical errors and the excessive use of the exclamation mark in your reply, so I don't really take your comment seriously at all, also no need to swear at me, that was not called for. Also I wasn't addressing you directly, I was just tired of every single comment on this video bragging about "Cherokee Blood" I meant if you are less than one fourth Cherokee you shouldn't be bragging. Have a nice day.
I'M not six years old bud. I'm pissed at people like you telling everyone else their not Indian which the blood runs in their veins. I'm not only American Indian, I'm French, Irish, English and Polish. So your going to tell me none of these nationalities are in me? Your delusional.
Gerri Petress Wow! Even more errors in this comment! I'm just going to stop talking to you because I may not even be able to decipher the next one. Have a nice ignorant life 🤗
I think this is the best song from the album. I'm undecided upon the album as although I know it is for the Dollywood musical (and I think the songs would be better in a musical) I think generally they are not the best songs Dolly has written and I was a little disappointed.
i went to dollys stampede in pigeon forge and the show was so amazing i had to look up the song
Dolly's haunting, spiritual voice - this is her spirit singing - dolly's sound will resonate in the mountains forever more

SketchFreak You know your wrong. My Grandmother was Shawnee Cherokee and English descent. So I'm no Indian at all? That's bullshit!!!!!!!!
