- Clive Robert Benjamin Dunn, OBE(9 January 1920 -6 November 2012 aged 92. Clive was an English actor,comedian,artist,author,and Singer.He was best known for playing the elderly Lance Corporal Jones in the BBC Sitcom Dad's Army. The song It's a long way to Tipperary was written Jack Judge and co credited to Henry James it was allegedly written for a 5 Shilling bet in Stalybridge on the 30 Jan 1912.This Good Old Days was recorded on the 16 July 1981.

Having discovered Dad's Army about a year ago and growing fond of all the men of Walmington-on-Sea, this video made my day, seeing Cpl. If I remember correctly from old Players' songsheets, Clive Dunn used to appear at the Players in the earlier days of his career. You can see that he was accustomed to playing to live audiences - and what a fine performer he was: it is a pleasure to see him doing something other than L/Cpl Jack Jones, the Walmington-on-Sea butcher. That series, for overseas viewers who may not know of it, is still running, as repeats, forty years on. Even my younger son, then aged nine, remarked that he found "Dad's Army" so funny, but he could not say why. Perhaps it was because the show was good family entertainment.
