  • Desperate as I was to record the 2nd part of Dimensions in Time (the 1993 Doctor Who special) i had a tape in the video recorder and the Record on Pause.
And as soon as the doorbell went at Noel's House Party, my hair-trigger pause button finger went off, recording this unexpected gem. And now, 17 years later, here it is for you to enjoy!
    Broadcast date: 27th November 1993.

David Jason was originally pencilled in to play corporal jones in Dad's Army, but Clive Dunn got the job at the last minute....

I can see DJ really working as C\\\\\\\\J, but I do believe that he may have ended stealing the show, as it were, from AL as the magnificently austere CM.

@Johnno9999 It's not that important. My point was just he was one of the last surviving cast members. There's no need to get overly concerned about it.

I saw the original broadcast of this and remember being really confused as a kid. I always thought that Dad's Army was filmed in the 1950s. I also remember my parents telling me that all the cast were dead, with the exception of Pike. So when Jones (who I thought was the oldest back then) appears here, looking and sounding exactly as he did in Dad's Army, I wondered what was going on.

I used to love watching the house party and always thought that Noel would be a fun type of bloke, But I was with one of the Mr Puniverses on the last season. I am a wheelchair user, and had to sit through numerous rehearsals in the studio. I sat quietly throughout them. and Noel was getting things wrong. he became frustrated and had a go at me. I had said nothing at all. but he was rude and nasty. he never mixed with guests after the show either. he had no time for them. Paul McCartney was on the same show and he was a total Gent to us. he approached us and spent time genuinely chatting to us, He even at one point apologised for Noels rudeness. After that I have never been able to like Noel. everything about him is false. not a nice man at all.

When comedy was well written, clever and you warmed to the characters who became part of your life. I have grown old since this gem was first aired, and continue to watch the reruns because they are like family to me. Except for PIKE, I think they are all gone now, but the pleasure of their antics, that appeals to all ages, lives on.

rackinfrackin, your comment is very funny, but I'm sorry to say that (I saw on wiki) the show was Noel Edmonds' house party. No connection to dear Noel Coward... Shame.
