Do I REGRET my DNA test results reveal?

  • I made a video where I did a DNA test reveal and shared my results on TH-cam. I never expected what would happen next.
A lot of people have commented and said that I look Asian. As a Mexican, this seemed strange to me, so I made a video called Why Do Some Mexicans Look Asian, where I found some very interesting information about Asian immigration to Mexico and some of the reasons for why I might look Asian.
That video blew up! Lots of people were asking me to take a DNA test to see if I do have any ancestry.
I had never considered doing a DNA test before but I thought that this would be an interesting video. This is the result:
Why do I look Asian? Mexican DNA test results reveal
    • Why do I look Asian? M...
The response to my DNA test reveal video shocked me. When my test results came back, it said that I was had almost 100% indigenous native American DNA. Some people congratulated me on being an indigenous Mexican. A lot of people criticised the video and said that it was racist.
Here I want to clear up what I really think about sharing my DNA test results online.

i think the wow factor about having so much indigenous DNA, and people congradulating it, is because in so much of northern america, indeed much of the americas, the indigenous population was so utterly near-annihalated that it is simply a shock when you realize the population has managed to survive despite this profound decimation. i live in north america, new england to be specific, and when i meet a person of native american decent i almost fall over because it is incredibly rare despite the fact that they were the originial inhabitants of our country. the person you are meeting has somehow survived all the odds. it is Wow thing to many people.

That's unusual to say because of the Mohawk nations footprint in both the "new England" area extending into Canada. There are at least 100+ million high percentage Native people throughout the Americas. The United States is the home to many as well. All you have to do is search on TH-cam. Grub the Navajo Nation to the Amazon, incredible maybe TH-camrs are vlogging and producing content.

No indigenous population wasn't annihilated. You're ignorant of history
The numerous indigenous populations loved hunting and warfare and not doing real work - and refused to modernize - had a disdain for agriculture. So they made no use of their land and wanted to just carry on like nomad savages massacring each other and the settlers and raiding. They eventually massacred white settlers so many times that the settlers had enough and killed their buffalo herds, to stop the sadistic killing they loved doing. Instead of finally growing-up and working hard, they chose to just sit around doing nothing and remain on the reservations to this day not achieving very much.
Australian Aboriginees are pretty similar and also failed to adapt.
They have massive problems with meth and alcohol because they are still immature towards working. Since then Socialist / Communist types attached their money to Hollywood and hollywood has pushed a myth like what you just wrote that the big nasty white people came and bullied the poor litte native american victims out of their lands bla bla bla bla bla, but that isnt what happened in history. They didnt want to accept living responsibly and their love of torturing and massacring other people led to the settlers putting a stop to the buffalo they relied on.

People are congratulating you because you are a survivor of one the largest genocides in history. That's something to be proud of. In the United States most people wish they were indigenous. For myself and thousands of other adopted Koreans all around the world it's important to check our DNA. 1) In hopes that we may be reconnected with our biological family 2) Also that Korea was a colony of Japan from the early 1900s to 1945 so many Koreans have Japanese DNA. 3) And finally it helps us understand our identity and be proud of our ethnicity. This is hard for some people to understand because they aren't adopted into a non Asian family. Keep up the great videos !

Apparently in an effort to do away with any racism, but unfortunately it persists and basically because racism and clasism go hand in hand, of course if someone has a lot of money people suddenly go color blind. Americas was populated in waves. All from Siberia . massive Proto-Amerindian wave during the Last Glacial Maximum, probably involving similar, but distinct, groups of Paleo-Siberians from Northeast Asia (including by then the Beringian bridge), some of whom may have carried, unlike the others, a minor Basal East Asian-related ancestry that creates a so-called “Australasian/Melanesian signal”. That kind of genetic profile was better preserved in Southeast Asian hunter-gatherers, particularly the Andamanese, despite its presence as far north as the Amur river, in Northeast China, 30,000 years ago. The bulk of the migrant peoples' ancestry, though, derived from a particular branch of East Asians that split from the modern Neo-East Asians at least 24,000 years ago, as well as from the West Eurasian-majority Ancient North Eurasians, who lived in much of Siberia before 15,000 years ago.
much later wave of genetically different Neo-Siberians about 5,000 years ago, also from Northeast Asia,
The first wave with Oceania DNA is not due to intermixed with Oceania in the middle ages. Instead it is due to paleo siberian still carrying traces of early human from Africa similar to that of melanesians. This had been a mystery for long time and people would theorize that south Americans were a result of Polynesians arriving in America.
To put it simply, south Americans and paleo amerindians are still more related to their cousins north amerindian and the inuit than any other group of people in the world

Irish people were also called a Race by the English who were the colonising power of Australia. There were all sorts of mean stereotypes for Irish people. I love the discovery of DNA and this new awakening to our very ancient connections. I am aware though that there are many ways people sort out who is in and who is out in every society. Humans are troubled by Status Anxiety and a drive for power in relationships but there are many other ways to enjoy being a human being. This DNA is stirring people up who were once able to sort out who was who and who they could safely use even harm...there really are some edges here. But we can also use our joyful courage and jump up and down with so many more friends from every where. Un abbraccio forte (Italian for a big hug) da Julia

The young African American woman was very angry to find out she had a lot of Caucasian DNA although she looked African American. Yes, thinking about how that Caucasian DNA got there could be upsetting given the long history of slavery and racial oppression in America. I guess the DNA tests can stir up a lot of trouble for the unsuspecting. But we should remember that we are not just our DNA. We also are the result of the immediate environment we were raised in. There is nothing wrong with being proud of one's race, but one's personality and achievements should be more important.

I am Filipino, but I look like a Native Mexican and people here in SoCal often think I am Mexican and speak to me in Spanish. Most of my friends were Mexican, Hispanic, and white. I tend to dress and act like a Mexican American because I grew up mostly around Mexicans. I actually don't get along very well with Filipinos and Asians. I am mixed with around 2 percent Spanish. According to one DNA test it seemed to say I had some Aztec blood, but it didn't say the percentage, it just showed a picture of where some of my DNA came from and it was from Mexico and it was labeled as Aztec. That same picture/map also showed that I have Native American blood from the USA and South America. That Aztec and Spanish blood was probably because of the Acapulco Manila Spanish galleon trade. My dad was born nearby a town in Philippines called Mexico. I also have some Polynesian blood. I pretty much have the DNA of all Asian ethnic groups. One test even said that I am Japanese, Chinese, and European Royalty. According to DNA test, Polynesians, Asians, and Native Americans have the same DNA/haplogroups. I also have around 1 percent African blood. According to the Bible, there are basically three races, and they are black, white, and Asian, and they all descended from Noah and Noah descended from Adam and Eve. DNA migration results seem to line up with the Bible migration routes. From my understanding Adam was brown because he was made out of red/brown clay. Eve should be white because she is made out of the rib of Adam and bone is white. Brown and white should produce all the skin tones of humanity. If you want to see the results of my DNA test, you can check my Facebook. A link to my Facebook is in my TH-cam channel.

My family is mostly a mix of Irish and Native American (Cherokee and Black Foot). However, many people think I'm Jewish. They think my brother is Arabic or Mexican. They think my mom is Iranian, Egyptian, or even Inuit. Some people think my dad is Russian. Many people also say I have east Asian mannerisms, even if I don't look Asian. So sometimes people just pick out some feature on you and associated it with a particular group of people, even if you are not a part of that group.
I think this just goes to show that we all share many features with each other, and just because different groups of people tend to have certain features show up stronger, it doesn't mean other groups don't share the features to an extent. The same thing is true with with cultures as well, not just genetics.
Thanks for making this video! I think its an interesting topic, and I enjoyed seeing your perspective!

yes, your race or ethnicity or skin color does not determine who you are as a person but it does determine how you get treated in society and the opportunities you get. like you said yourself, in mexico it does determine who gets opportunities thats why you see mostly white people on tv and ad on the street ect.... im from the u.s and most people that say things like ''we are one'' or '' im color blind'' are white people who do so as to turn a blind eye on how race or ethnicity or skin color determined and still determines how you get treated and opportunities you get. but saying race or skin color is not part of your identity is ridiculous and yes it would be nice if it was that easy but thats not how society works unfortunately

I agree with all of the points you made. First of all I think you are perfect the way you are. Dave is a lucky man and the idea that by marrying him you were "improving" the race (i.e. making it whiter) is nonsense, and that certainly wasn't your goal. Miscegenation does create a stronger species, but I don't think that is what the people making that comment were thinking of. People who leave negative or hurtful comments reveal more about themselves than they realize. Constructive criticism is different, of course. And I don't understand why a video that has been seen 10,000 times may have no more than 450 likes. It costs nothing to give the video a thumbs up and it helps the creator. Re the first type of comment we have no control over our ancestry, although our choice of mate will influence who our descendants will be. It's fun to know something about your ancestry, and can lead to research in many related fields. It is interesting that you have mostly indigenous ancestry from Mesoamerica and further south, and since Malinche was reputed to be a beautiful woman you could be a dead ringer for her. Who can prove otherwise? The second type of comment may be as you say, but they could also be intended as protective, Since some people view brown people, or black people, as somehow inferior (total racist nonsense), they may have been trying to say that your indigenous roots were no better or worse than if you were Norwegian or Spanish, and that you should be proud of your ancestry. They may not have thought you were feeling superior. A much too large percentage of conservatives in the US are scared to death of the current "invasion" of brown skin refugees seeking entrance into the US. This fear is based on ignorance fueled by rightwing media. This is ludicrous since many of these pasty skin individuals will go to Hawaii or Florida or even Cancun in the hope that they will return home with a tan resembling your natural skin color (they should be so lucky). Not many people speak one of Mexico's 68 indigenous languages. It would take a monumental effort to determine which group(s) your ancestors belonged to. You speak two languages, which is more than most people in the US can speak. I've always thought of Benito Juarez, a Zapotec Indian, as one of the great people in history, but I wonder how he would be welcomed today. Would a small dark skin man be recognized as a great leader for our time? In 1971 I made my first trip to San Cristobal de las Casas. A few years before the Tzotzil and Tzeltal Indians of Chiapas were not allowed to walk on the sidewalk. As a group they are still poor but their influence is growing. Anyway, I enjoyed your videos on why some Mexicans look Asian, or about some being Black, and your DNA results. More positive than negative, I think, although I don't discount your reaction to some of the responses.

What I really am has to do with my beliefs and my actions. I define myself by those things.

According to a Feb. 5, 2016 article in Scientific American, scientists argue that "race is a social construct without biological meaning." They suggest "phasing out racial terminology in the biological sciences" but acknowledge , "that using race as a political or social category to study racism, although filled with lots of challenges, remains necessary given our need to understand how structural inequities and discrimination produce health disparities between groups," according to Micheal Yudell, professor at Drexel University. All humans share one race. It's our ethnicity and culture that distinguish us. But the undeniable fact is that white or Caucasian has been held superior over black and brown people by the dominant groups for all or most of recorded history. I think you should be proud of your indigenous ethnicity. It does not follow that your pride means that you feel superior to other ethnic groups and cultures.

Ancient Central Asian Turks were nomads and crossed the Bering Straits following food like reindeer. Ancient Turks and Native Americans have VERY similar tools, weopons, customs, cultures, religion, and name meanings.

race and ethnicity do not define us as people, but as your previous video about looking Asian discussed, cultures are erased or damaged by oppressive policies, racism, shame, and economic factors. It's important to be proud of marginalized identities so that we can survive and limit the damage imposed on us. You said you don't have the culture, language, and experience of an indigenous person. That's great to recognize since DNA is not a community or culture. But it is good to have clues especially when you don't know something in your family history. A lot of white people in the US want to be indigenous and if they get DNA results with anything nonwhite, they seem to celebrate. That seems ridiculous. One doesn't gain oppression or culture or community with DNA test (that only give statistical information not actual identification of one's race or ethnicity anyway). In any case, thanks for talking about your thinking on this issue. I enjoyed your earlier video about Asians in Latin America and Latin Americans in Asia. It's seems like a good way to inspire more people to get interested in reading or exploring more about it.

There’s nothing wrong with people congratulating you on your ethnicity. But I agree that your ethnicity is not something very important in what defines you. It plays a part, but it’s not the most important part at all

I was watching about archeology from another channel. People were asking questions like, "Were Ancient Egyptians Black?" (As in say Black-African or Black-American.) The correct answer is, "No. Because Black, as we know it today didn't exist 2,000 or 5,000 years ago. And the Ancient Egyptians were a unique racial/ethic group, that doesn't really exist anymore." The archeologist was asked why White or Light was so favored all over he world. She explained: It was all about sex & class. Women, especially elite women, and elite men worked indoors most of the time and didn't get browned by the sun. Men and lower class people and most slaves all worked outdoors where they got browned up by the sun. There are examples of Greek pottery, where women are shown as very pale, but men are shown as very dark, almost black. This is all people of the same race/ethnic group: just different sex & class. People all want to look like the elite class. And light women are often considered more beautiful.

Original populations in the Americas arrived from the west across Beringia which is where the Bering Straits are, even after that people could still cross sometimes over ice, thousands of years ago the sea level was lower as the Earth's climate was colder, a lot of now underwater lands around the world existed.
Also people came off the Pacific Ocean and those people overlapped with people from East/South East Asian populations.p

Its been scientifically proven that all indigenous Americans migrated through bering. There is no pacific sea migration to america

    • @st4r444
      @st4r444 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@toddmaek5436 no there wasn't. The migration happened in waves. The 1st waves are paleo siberians which looked more archaic than east Asians. Paleo siberians are proven to still have early human traits from Africa so they may be more similar in face, skin and dna to something like an Australian aboriginal or melanesian. To prove further, when the early melanated humans came out of Africa they went to central Asia then split and scattered through North Asia, South Asia and south east asia. Then eventually they landed in Indonesia and Australia because the sea level was lower during the time. Because they were isolated in this area, they maintained their traits and looks while all their descents in mainland Asia changed and those traits disappeared. The most early sea faring was somewhere around 3500bc which was way after america had been populated. The Polynesians didn't leave south china to Taiwan till 4000bc either and the Americas had already been populated for at least 12000bc.

Well, if you believe your ethnicity is special, is it worth preserving? If you don't mind it disappearing then there's nothing to worry about.

I watched your video a long time ago. I thought, "Not surprising! An indigenous looking Mexican senorita turns out to be a mostly indigenous Mesoamerican woman." Even the Asian part is explainable, since the current belief is that most of indigenous people of the Americas migrated to North America, from Siberia (Asia) tens of thousands of years ago (estimates just increased to at least 26,000 years ago!) over the Bering Land Bridge to North America and rather quickly, all the way to Chile! Others probably migrated, Siberia to America, along a coastal route by some sort of boats. (We are learning that very primitive humans were more sea worthy than we ever expected.) In some areas of West Mexico & Central America there are traces of Polynesian DNA indicating some ancient, primitive, people sailed across the Pacific to Mexico!
    Suggestions for you:
    1. Get a test that tests your mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA.) This is past down only mother to child. You might be able to trace the area where your super-great grandmother came from. In your case, it might be a very specific location.
    2. If you have at least one brother that you are sure is of the same father, test him for his Y chromosome DNA. The Y chromosome is only passed down father to son. Same thing, in your situation, you might be able to trace your super-great grandfather to a specific location.
    3. If you want to go bonkers, see if there is a test that tests for Neanderthal DNA. Most Europeans have up to 4% or 5% Neanderthal DNA. People of Asian descent, less so. (Yes, Neanderthals as in primitive ancient pre-human people! It's been proved that modern humans & Neanderthals cross-bred!)
    4. If you want to go bonkers-bonkers, see f you can find a test that will test for Denisovan DNA. In the last few decades, fossils were found in Denisovan cave in Siberia, that had DNA from an alternate version of primitive pre-humans that we know cross-bred with Neanderthals AND modern humans! (Fossils of a girl, now called "Deni," were found that were a 50-50 hybrid mix of Neanderthal & Denisovan! Yes, Mommy was one, Daddy was the other!) Since Deni was found, it's been learned that most people in Asia have up to 4% or 5% Denisovan DNA.
As recently as 60,000 to 100,000 years ago, there were as many as eight humanoid species walking the planet. It's obvious that some of hem cross-bred with each other.
If you care to learn more about human evolution, look up TH-cam channel, "History with Kayleigh."
