It also came out at a time that most/all console ports had X-input controller support for Xbox controllers, besides performing better and looking better than the 360 and PS3 versions. The newer versions are even better. So I just find it weird having to waste system resources to emulate it and then run a version of it that runs at 30fps with vsync or 60fps without. @@carposp7789 You literally played 4 games on Xenia Canary and then decided it was better than RPCS3 as a whole. I could cherry-pick 4 games from RPCS3 that performed well and say that it's much better than Xenia Canary. Whether one is "better" than the other is case-dependent. For example, RDR runs fine for me on RPCS3, but I had horrible luck on Xenia. On the flipside, Midnight Club: Los Angeles wouldn't even boot on RPCS3 for me, but I was able to complete the game on Xenia.
The big console companies(Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony) are mad about emulators because the emulator community is doing things they can't be arsed to do themselves. Also, fun little fact: You can connect your official PS3 DS3 to your computer to use with RPCS3, with full button support for that truly authentic experience.
@@pedro.alcatra You’ll need to download and install specific driver software to allow your PC to recognize and configure the PS3 controller. SCPToolkit is a start, and what I used. But once you have that, all you have to do is use a wired USB connector for the DS3 and connect it to your computer. After a moment your computer will recognize the controller just like how the PS3 used to do, and presto, all set. Disconnect the controller and press the PS button and it will automatically connect to the PCs bluetooth and be ready to go. In the driver software you can configure it to function with full PS3 support, including pressure sensitive buttons(RPCS3 and PCSX2 will accept this configuration natively) or as an XInput control device(for everything else as not everything can understand native PS3 control inputs).

This is probably the best , cleanest emulation video on TH-cam. I hope this goes straight to the top search results. Keep it up Jeff , you’re killing it.
Sony and ms have no interest in backwards compatibility they want you paying for their services and playing games they can properly monetize. Good thing we got emulation but we got to step outside of the current gaming ecosystem.
I only play single player games once, when the credit rolls I move to other games. I prefer remasters and remakes of these games because they will run well on the new hardwares. Sahder caching is not great for me because the games will stutter.
Wrong 😂 Microsoft is expanding its backlog of Backwards compatibility on Newer Consoles. They have announced it in March April, some 3rd party developers are choosing to remaster games instead of renewing licenses so that is what’s holding backwards compatibility back.
Wrong MS does care and has a very good backwards compatibility program. And is constantly adding more titles to the list as they work out licensing deals with old publishers.
Sony is finally making backwards compatibility availability. but it may take a while as the emulator they are using & making is still relativity early and they have Ps2 & PS3 Dev from the emulation scene to create and port games to this emulator Sony has baking. Microsoft doesn’t fully need to create an emulator as everything is in house. But it’s up to 3rd party dev to make games back wards compatibility as MICROSOFT HAS ALL THEIR First Party Games Available.
It's amazing that even now, after putting in the staggering amount of work that it takes to get an emulator working, devs will put literally zero effort into a front end or consider usability.
It's because some devs that are like gods in emulation don't have any experience in making frontends. So, you either have to rely on a "third-party" frontend or learn how to read config files (lol)
@@frayans Or just not bother to use the emulator until it's finished. Sorry but in this year of our lord 2024, a piece of software without some sort of GUI is not finished.
creating and maintaining a frontend with a developing backend is a lot of double work. The speed of development while keeping the frontend 'beautiful' isn't an easy task. Also, after a few years of emulation you will want to reach for a custom frontend (that services all your games like ES-DE). My hope is all these emulators eventually will be ported as cores into something like RetroArch where we have a unified frontend
Great video. I have been getting into the scene over the past year and it is truly amazing what these communities have been doing. People just want to play good old games.
I’ve been thinking of playing the Banjo games through that for a while since they were the best versions. Any experience with those? Do they run well or are they buggy?

I just want to let you know that I subscribed to you because you lay off the usual TH-cam tropes. A breath of fresh air. And now I’m getting more into modern emulation because of you. Damnit, Jeff.
With those specs, if a game doesn't run then it's not because your PC is not good enough but instead the emulator just doesn't run that game well. I have a Windows PC handheld similar to a Steamdeck as well as a big PC. My handheld runs Cyberpunk in 720p low setting at 50-60fps. On my PC I run it in 1080p high with some ray tracing at 90-100fps. That's a huge gap between both PC but The Last of Us runs like crap on PCSX3 on both computers. 10-20fps and visual glitches. With that game it's not about how powerful the computer is but how compatible the emulator is.

I had no idea they finally made a an actual UI for it and made it much easier to configure and setup games. I can't wait to try this out. Great Video by the way!
21:30 I remember that statement. Again, boomer execs being absolutely out of touch with the gaming communities, always trying to push their "CONSOOM NEW PRODUCT, NAO!!" narrative, that treats games as disposable products you shouldn't invest time to and replay endlessly. Full backwards compatibiity was THE selling point of both PS2 and PS3 consoles, something gamers AND their parents were overjoyed. Remember the SNES announcement controversy, how older folks were furious that those hundreds of bucks worth of NES games no longer would work on the new hardware? Yeah, many do not, clearly.
Plus the best reason I love older games on like the 360 for example is the games don't need Internet. Plays right as is. No downloads needed. Makes for such a better experience knowing the disc actually is the game.

7th gen games where the best. Most of the big AAA gaming companies aren't making the games they use too. They're too worried about pleasing a small minority of very vocal idiots to make good games anymore. Now they either release the game in a unfinished state and let the people that buy the game find the bugs with the pre-orders. Then they can push a massive day one patch that's suppose to make it somewhat passable as a finished game. Or they make it so unbearably obvious that they're pushing a DEI agenda. That overshadows any positives and it ends up like concord... My advice to the gaming industry. Go back to what worked, i.e. making games for gamers not activist. Like it or not, the vast majority of gamers are straight males.

The Zen 2 cores in the PS5 are certainly not fast enough to do this as well, especially since they lack AVX512 compatibility. Even if Sony wanted to achieve it, they could only do it in a smaller subset of games that don't leverage the SPEs as much. But it was mostly Sony first party titles that were putting the Cell to it's full use and so we don't see much interest.

@@MoonOvIce It is for all intents and purpsose an actual xbox 360 game. You are emulating the xbox 360 version of the game. Doesn't matter if it's available on PC.
@@idkwhattonamethisyoutubeac4737 Yeah sure. But Buoshock came from a PC-first developer. If it was one of those games in the 2000's where the PC version was a lost cause, I would understand. The big console companies(Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony) are mad about emulators because the emulator community is doing things they can't be arsed to do themselves.
Also, fun little fact: You can connect your official PS3 DS3 to your computer to use with RPCS3, with full button support for that truly authentic experience.
how the fuck does that work?
@@pedro.alcatraPs3 controllers use bluetooth to transmit there signals. So anything that can receive bluetooth signals can learn how to interpret those signals.

Motorstorm: Apocalypse
Sony and ms have no interest in backwards compatibility they want you paying for their services and playing games they can properly monetize. Good thing we got emulation but we got to step outside of the current gaming ecosystem.
Worse, now a significant part of their "new" releases are remasters of PS3 or even PS4 era games.
Awesome video. I like that you went over some features that not even “set-up” videos have covered for each emulator.
It's amazing that even now, after putting in the staggering amount of work that it takes to get an emulator working, devs will put literally zero effort into a front end or consider usability.
RPCS3's ui is really good. But Xenia is almost non-existent and is dependant of front-ends.
Xenia is a great emulator for xbla games but it requires a fairly powerful computer to run the more demanding games.
I’ve been thinking of playing the Banjo games through that for a while since they were the best versions. Any experience with those? Do they run well or are they buggy?

RPCS3 is much more demanding. You can get by with a lesser pc with Xenia but not RPCS3.

What about Desktop PCs will an i5 14600k 16 gb ddr5 rtx 4060 ti on windows 11 easily run these emulators and games ?
Easy, won´t have a problem since the laptop specs that they list are cutdown versions of the desktop variant always.

This is incredible. Mainly Xbox Xenia has blown me away as I have been wanting to play certain old Xbox 360 games that are no longer available since the store shutdown and were never made backwards compatible with the series X.
Good to see ya' getting that bag my man, been a subscriber since the very beginning and watching your channel grow has been wicked so far!

And this is why PC is King of all gaming platforms!
Oh man, Xenia Manager is an absolute game changer, I've only played one game on Xenia, Far Cry: Instincts Predator, and figuring out what I had to do to get it to work through editing the config file was not ideal to say the least. I'm no stranger to messing with config files but I really didn't want to edit stuff to figure out the issues I was having out of fear of bricking it, with a GUI and better access to community patches though I'll absolutely use it more. Cheers, I haven't kept up with the development of Xenia much lately, had no idea this was a thing.
I played around with RPCS3 for a while and completed Killzone HD and Resistance 1, great emulator when it works. But the amount of problems with game crashes, weird graphics issues, low frames and all the custom configs you need to do on some games made me just go out and bought a PS3. Save the hassle :P
Seeing how easy it is to get PS3 firmware from this just made me full send on getting RPCS3 set up, and I can finally play Demon's Souls classic without wanting to pull my hair out.
