He most attractive and truly kind types in the MBTI. From what I've seen, there're no mind games, no ulterior motives, and no fakery. Screw the haters and keep being your awesome selves.

The reason we apologize so much is because we have usually been beat over the head so much about being rude or mean when that was never our intention. It makes us hypersensitive to that possibility. Instinctively, I'll speak what I perceive to be the truth and then realize after the fact that it may not have been the right moment to say something like that or I've said it in a needlessly harsh way.

    • @pookie7584
      @pookie7584 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

Exactly, people are always saying that i come off as rude, and even now whenever i meet new friends i just like to give them a word of warning and let them know that im not the nicest person. A lot of ISTP's are nice poeple just dont know how to express that, but im genuinely not, escpecially when im tired. I feel safer warning them so if i accidentally make a slip up i can remind them that I told them about me no being super kind. Telling people is like a safety net for me.

I'm an INTJ. So people misunderstand me as well. They see me focusing on something, with the INTJ stare which makes me look angry, and they assume me to be angry. Funny enough they never believe me when I try to correct them on it. So I've learned to appreciate the socially awkward which I'm part. I'm also bad at small talk. I do appreciate ISTPs.

I remember growing up as a girl ISTP was so rough, especially elementary school. I was always the only girl in the class not doing things right, expressing my feelings wrong, being reprimended, not fitting in with the other girls, not enjoying girl talk and gossip so much etc. In highschool I was so tired of it that I completely shut down and decided to focus on myself and my hobbies. Alone. I didn't mind since I'm a huge introvert and my close friends were enough for me. Eventually, things got a whole lot better a little bit before college where I started to have people come to me for advice or opinion on things I was good at. From an ISTP to an ISTP, if you keep doing what you love and with passion (which shouldn't be hard, cause ISTP). We are not that akward, people secretely love us for just being ourselves ;)

    • @Emmanuel_Rocha

The problem with what you just described is that it falls under the Forer effect. Which is basically giving characteristics so vague that anyone can relate to them. The part about focusing on yourself and hobbies, that can be a trait of an introvert. Most introverts are like that. Heck, everyone has hobbies which they focus on. Also, anyone who sees someone with enough knowledge or experience on something they want to excel on, and if their pride doesn't get in the way, will seek advice from that person. Anyone who does what they love with passion will surely get noticed and appreciated. People appreciate people who are authentic, passionate and true. And it is independently of the personality type. In a way, we're all strange and quirky, and in that strangeness we aren't so strange. People: don't rely too much on personality tests. They're flawed.

I'm a female ISTP. Growing up, I was always studying well, but didn't understand myself at all. I've always procrastinated a lot, studied a lot and didn't do any physical activities. At home I was told to believe that I'm more of a feeling and intuitive person, that I'm very good at literature, understand underlying messages, love expanding "school knowledge", philosophical matters and shouldn't like sports, crafts and physical work so much. I didn't even try to question it, because I had no idea what I really liked, for my parents never gave me the chance to experience anything. Whenever I didn't understand something or couldn't read people's feelings, I'd feel like I failed as the person I thought I was (it happened very often, almost every time I talked to someone new, had to finish a mind-provoking project, cheer someone up, etc.) That's how I developed social anxiety, thinking that I was failing as someone who should be more understanding, gentle and book-smart. I realised that something was wrong with my life the moment I entered high school. I chose a language oriented class, because I like learning grammatical schemas. At first I wanted to go to a different school and learn how to weld, but it was more of a joke than it was the real dream, knowing that I wouldn't be offered a good educational level and at that time was sure that it was exactly what I needed. In my high school it turned out that literature was way more important than the actual ability of speaking the foreign language, so I've been struggling with literature 9 hours a week and honestly... I had so many mental breakdowns that I can't even count now. There's one year left until the final exam and I have no idea what to do after passing them. I don't know which university I should choose or if I should choose one at all. I feel like if I don't continue my "school-like education" all of my efforts, time and basically... entire life will be wasted, but at the same time, there's nothing that interests me, said differently, nothing that interests me after passing literature, 2 foreign languages and geography. There's literally nothing to do after that XDD

Nothing of your life is wasted - you’re literally still a child so pls stop catastrophising. I get that this is your whole life and it’s a big deal to you but you need to gain a lil perspective. School isn’t everything. I changed my mind about what to do with my life 3 whole times in my 20s. Now I’m 30, doing something I love, and although my high school years weren’t amazing turns out I don’t care any more cause I decided to make the rest of my life better.

From an ISTP here, regarding the Ti function, re-evaluating, being truthful and all, its not just towards facts, but also towards ourselves, its like, we know we are horrible with our Fe, and we are well aware of it and trying to 'fix' our Fe or to make it better. Its 'normal' for ISTPs to be there for someone else or helping people in need, moreover if it utilizes our skills, its a healthy thing to do. Plus, I tend to be quite since I know if I speak my mind, I would came across as rude when really I was just speaking facts. 🤔

I like that you point out the emphasis we place on integrity. I also like that you point out the ISTPs proneness to awkwardness. Idk how other ISTPs feel about this, but I’ve struggled with feeling awkward my whole life. The “cool” sigma stereotype for ISTP leads to people not understanding the principle of what it means to identify with it.

ISTP here, tested as INTJ forever (neglected Se for a lot of my life because reasons, favored Ni)
I bought a guitar after I realized I was mistyping, and figured out my actual type, and holy crap, Ti+Se+Ni is a nutty combo! I'm learning it so fast it's blowing my mind, by the end of the first night I could hit every harmonic on the fretboard... (can't help but see MBTI as a type of character sheet lol)

  • @HelloNNNewman

Wow... I'm an ISTP and this was amazingly informative and explained really well. The best example I've seen (in a picture) of my personality type is a car where the image was exploded out to show every single part in that car being visible with the caption of "So, that's how that it works". If you want an ISTP to understand a part of the whole - they will need to understand the "whole" to know how that part fits in. It can be frustrating for some, but it's just how our minds process.
Also - I loved the explanation of the Ni function... it was soooo spot on and really helped me to realize I need to self check my thoughts when I get apprehensive of the future or feel negative thoughts or words coming up.
    Thanks for the great video!!

  • @julianbailey2749

I've watch MBTI videos from a bunch of different people and yours are possibly the best at explaining all of a types' functions well. I also appreciate that for an ISTP video you wore an old T-shirt and glasses, it's a instant ISTP visual connection, we tend to bounce off people that look too made up.
One thing that I find difficult as an ISTP is that though I can see into the future as to what my perfect plan might be (Ni) then my (Fe) makes me worry about the trouble that I will put other close people (mainly family) into and so it acts as a brake on achieving my desires. I understand why ISTPs avoid close relationships because they add restrictions to our natural desires that we find difficult to negotiate. Despite that I am a better person for having an ISTJ significant other (my rock) and ESTP son (exciting, but exhausting).
One thing that I don't get about the standard ISTP pattern is that we are meant to be virtuosos, being capable of being the best at one thing. I am much more of a ploymath, being reasonably competent at many different things as the Se and P combo seems to leave me bored by the repetition required to achieve absolute mastery of one craft over general competence in many. It may be that I have just not found my one true love yet.

Very accurate. I’ve always valued honesty and people key me as “blunt” more than anything. I’m not mean or rude, or hold bad intentions, but I will always be honest and try to have an educate opinion. I debated politics for a few years until it became too stressful, but I never bandwagon. The reason I’m so invested and stubborn on my beliefs is because I’ve educated myself so much about them, to the point where random social constructs or knit-picky critiques cannot sway me because they just don’t hold any evidence.
Imo, ISTPs can be labeled as the “bad guy” in many situations. Because so many people find comfort in playing devils advocate, and they can’t deal with someone who doesn’t magically hop onto a new mindset because it’s easier to think that way.
I was always an INTJ throughout middle school and high school, now I only get ISTP lol. But I’d say it’s pretty accurate :)

I have no business saying this since I have zero experience in therapy, but my theory is that istps are the most useless of all the types in therapy (unless our therapist is really fantastic) because we are all about knowing the problem and fixing it ourselves. The ideal istp therapist should lead the istp to what may be the issue and let us work out a solution, then just support us while giving us a bit of distance.

When we start watching a show or movie, she’ll look up their MBTI type and it helps her follow the movie better. Very good video posting; I like your attitude and you speak in a very intelligent manner. As for myself, I vow to not ever demand respect from others. I like to respect others within good reason, and want respect in return. I just got elected as employee of the year at my job. Even before this happened, I have been a very respected person at work, probably because I treat my co workers like human beings with feelings. I know what it's like to be hated, misunderstood, and treated like a cold statistic. As an ISTP, I was thought of by my classmates in elementary school as being socially awkward and more strange than science fiction. It did not help my self esteem either to be misunderstood. Even some of my teachers thought of me as having too many idiosyncrasies that are abnormal, and regarded me as an outcast. My self esteem did not start to go bad until the third grade. By the time I was in 7th grade, I did have some of my teachers kindly ask me why I did not socialize with my classmates, but with teachers instead. I could not explain my thought process at the time, but it basically amounted to being a reserved person who only let select few people in my inner circle that I thought would not make fun of me. The teachers were mature, open minded, and listened well. I was right for the most part about who I should have as good friends, but made a few bad choices. One such person still wants me to be their friend today, even on Facebook, and even though they knowingly committed an act of betrayal 35 years ago. This is one kind of "slap in the face" an ISTP type person will not forget. In the long run, I have had a good life and been fortunate enough to be able to support myself. At the end of the day, we are not perfect, and have our strengths and weaknesses. We all are smart in some areas as well as stupid in others. Everyone has a funny accent, and a handicap or disability of some kind or another.

Wow you offer a lot of unique insight, thank you. One of the more interesting things I’ve noticed throughout life (istp) is that I do possess quick decision making in tangible and physical conflicts, like reacting to a car crash or similar scenario. But being caught off guard with emotional conflicts, that’s when I have shut down. It’s like my body doesn’t move and I am trying to process why this person is acting this way, whereas other people seem to have a instant reaction in those scenarios. I’ve found this issue most difficult to fix.

Explained so much, in middle school I (female ISPT) thought I was gay because I wasn't feminine, never could relate to females, or feelings, always been awkward.
Took several years to figure out, I'm a "tomboy". Took several more to understand I'm not emotionally intelligent. Finally, I realize I'm an ISTP.
Having a daughter (INFP) made me delve into the mechanics of the mind to understand why we clash so much. It was obvious I was a horrific mom tho I try reeeally hard. This helped me understand that I'm the best mom I knew how to be and where I can push myself to grow, expressing emotions, although I don't quite understand nor am comfortable but my kid, she's worth it

After going back and forth, finally figured out that I'm not INTP (tests could be misleading, better to study the function stacks though they would give you an idea). I don't like abstract that much, but I can hold my own IF needed though. (being an ISTP) This is probably the reason I'm drawn into physical stuff like carpentry or any manual labor, when I'm stressed. I like getting into fights when I was a kid and didn't study that much. They said if you're INTP, you're excited about the future, well, I'm not, I'm a bit pessimistic. For the longest time, I was in a TINI loop. I was always in my head. Now, I try to silence my NI and rely on my SE. This is the reason why when I'm tuned into my SE, it's like dang, I'm in the moment, everything feels good. NI created these negative illusions, MBTI helped me realize who I really am. SE set me free from depression because now, I can live in reality.

    • @TheAstilesus
      @TheAstilesus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@lunaticluna873 As I have aged, I have become more introverted. I tend to think too much, be a loner, feel like I am not productive, lack purpose and get depressed. But the times in my life when I was solid was when I was training for a triathlon, hiking the appalachian trail, building a barn, or serving in the military. And as she described the functions, it dawned on me that, while I used to use more Se, I have gotten "lazy" and now dwell in Ni. More Se or as she says "getting into your body" seems more healthy and happier.

I've coached some ISTPs about social situations, and the big advice that seemed to resonate was to do social events that involve Se - so sports, hiking, water skiing, etc. That really gets ISxP's in their body and able to extrovert more! :) If you initiate Se events or explain that it's helpful for you, I'm sure they'd oblige :)

So here's my theory, assuming we accept MBTI and Jung's work as a stable framework to analyze behavior:
We get input from Se, which is stored, organized, and categorized by Ti, then combining those, we take current raw input data from Se, compare it subconsciously to what we have stored already (or add to existing data if it's something new) in Ti, and the combination of those two (realtime and previously-encountered factual information) informs our Ni which gives us a natural intuition for working with our bodies and manipulating the physical world effectively.

15:44 you know how people put their minds together, each one contributing to a project or idea. We do that in a different way, we consider the items themselves, the materials, how they work/fit together and how they move and create or fix something. Our minds are always on and all the information we gather gets stored for later use. You get to see it done all in one shot but the information was there way before the opportunity presented itself. We definitely hoard information.

If the mood strikes you, would you please do a video INTJ compared to ISTP?
INFJ/ISTP and INFP/ISTP would also be awesome to see. I haven’t seen anybody do these comparisons. The reason I ask is I’m a female ISTP 4w5 and I used to think I was an INFJ, and others have told me they thought I was INFJ INFP ISFP because my Fi and Fe are developed. I think I often prefer my INFP Super Ego and when I get tired of the feelings, I transition back to my ISTP ego, it’s like leaning on my 5 wing, it saves me from drowning, getting too far into my dark thoughts and feelings. So, anyway, if you ever decided to give it shot, I’d love to hear it! 🙂

I finally found out I am an ISTP female. I used to be so torn between being and INTP and an INFP. I looked at my childhood for clues and thats how I found out I prioritized sensing and thinking. For example I did not like playing with barbies because they "didn't do anything". I wanted to play outside and play with legos and puzzles etc. As an adult I have developed my emotional intelligence and have a huge bleeding heart but I also love coming up with creative outside of the box solutions to problems and very much hate the "thats the way we've always done it" "because I said so" mentality that kills innovation. Thats why I thought I might be an INTP or INFP.

Wondering about istps and kinesthetic awareness via yoga and dance and swimming (dance not as performance, as in esfp, but as in enjoying the sheer physicality of it) all I rem looking back as a kid, was all the physical activity I used to do and how it's now what makes me enjoy my day as an adult.. Being outside and active, with my dog, feeling the elements.. And then the complete opposite, getting stuck in Ni, and being dragged down by it and Se being the antidote to that... Se heals me..definitely have the awkward social thing, and I keep most things I want to say, back, in case I offend someone.. I find socialising boring, unless people are being totally honest.. And I need to keep most social engagements to an hour limit, as its too much Fe for me, after that... Then I need to move and be active and be with my dog.. Also love driving around with my dog, just enjoying the landscape and the silence! Seriously wondering if I'm istp..

When I hear something that goes against my principles I just have the urge to speak up and confront it, but since it’s an impulsive reaction, I don’t have time to mess my words and they often come out in the wrong tone. if the person I’m confronting is not close to me, they might misunderstand and get defensive, consequently starting arguments, and It’s so boring… having to worry about how others will perceive me drives me insane, so I end up avoiding interacting at all
