You couldn't possibly be an ISTP, no way. Nor an T type, you are a feeler by thinking that way. It didn't even cross my mind that think of that as roast even listening this third time, I just thought "yeah it's true, he is really logical type" and that's it. Who even think about feelings? Thinking types surely don't.

The losing respect part is sooo spot on. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said to someone that respect comes before love. I cannot, for the life of me, love someone if I do not respect them. Respect, absolutely, has to come first.

INTP w/ISTP son. Being ISTP is hard for him. He has the heart and soul of the ISTP, but physical disabilities make his Se wonky. He literally has two non-dominant hands, so everything using fine motor skills is doubly challenging to him. He is currently working towards a welding certificate, and often comes home criticizing himself because he cannot master a weld fast enough. I have always marveled at him. Even when he was a small child he noticed the oddest things, like the hubcaps on all the local cop cars. He could identify which officer we passed just by looking at their hubcaps. Seriously, Who notices that? And he has always had the quirkiest assortment of facts in his head. Even though he has had a rough time socially and physically, he is pretty awesome, and just becoming more awesome as he steps into adulthood.

It's like I'm allowed to be logical about things only when I'm not busy with my humanity babysitter "responsibilities". I agree with this. I keep questioning being INTP even though every test says I am. I don't learn things for the sake of learning and new possibilities don't 'excite' me lol. I think my Parent Se is underdeveloped though and my Ni is more developed so I answer positively to more intuitive questions. That's why I think I'm ISTP. I read somewhere that Ti and Fi dominants are most likely to research extensively to find out their type and I've gotten so deep into MBTI at this point after dedicating so many hours over like a month. A lot of function descriptions from different people and sites seem to contradict eachother though and there are many stereotypes which get in the way of making accurate inferences and forming opinions.

My Mom was an ISTP. She was "emotionally hostile"....she engaged with her children rarely on an emotional/feeling level. Children are inherently emotional and illogical....they would be constant irritants to the ISTP soul. She expected us to figure out things for ourselves, though she would step in when our adventures threatened true harm. She was a nurse, so I think her Fe (caring for other’s emotional state) was burned out after her 12 hour hospital shift. She did love music and singing, so she communicated her feelings through that and vicariously taught us to do the same! Though I still wish she could have been what I needed, Personality Typing has helped me to heal my hurt about her behavior and replaced it with understanding.

I feel as if i am inhibited by their inability to hold an intellectual conversation and their little understanding of the science of the world. However they still do like me and engage with me when i make physical play (like a fist bump or a strong high five). I do sometimes worry about the future and whether I'll be able to provide healthy emotional interactions to my own children, i pray that I'll find an emotionally intelligent wife :3.

So i just don't tell them. Its quiet hard especially when i am a private person who rarely ever, and i mean like rarely ever opens up to anyone.

Yep, I force myself to write down a list of long term goals and projects, with deadlines and sub objectives. Only to toss the thing in the drawer and go down into technical rabbit holes and fascinating/obscure stuff that piques my interest. I find routines relaxing but hard to follow whenever something comes along and draws me in...I find this lack of discipline sometimes frustrating and admire ISTJs for sticking to their rules and schedules.

    • @narcsinart7179
      @narcsinart7179 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@azmodanpc i don't see it as a lack of discipline, but rather following a separate type of discipline. in other words, when something draws you in, you are very self-disciplined at studying that thing/working on that thing/focusing on that thing. possibly sacrificing eating and other things you enjoy to focus on this thing that drew you in. and it may not seem like discipline because you are enjoying it so much. i would guess that's how it is for istj--i mean they enjoy so much to have that familiar and predictable schedule etc--that it doesn't feel like discipline to them

Opinionated and Right. He listens while I talk (insert ramble here). When he comments, he is spot on. He is my encyclopedia and name that tune guy. If I’m ever wondering about something, I ask him. He knows everything and at the drop of a hat. And yes, he is the MAN and masculine to my woman feminine. This is the way it is supposed to be. Plus, NO man could handle me and he does it without effort. We may not be perfectly compatible on paper, but this works for us. BTW, we’re both 51- born in 1969. The demon - Fi description is such a good hit. I've had so many times happening that I put a lot of time and effort into building a nice relationship, closed my eyes to a lot of things, but in return at the slightest mistake I get punished like I killed someone and there's just no forgiveness for me that it made me put some people in that "to avoid zone". I don't know if this is something ISTP specific, but I seem to be really forgiving most of the time, but once the limit is reached, I don't know if the trust can ever be recovered, or at least fully recovered.

It’s mostly because-you guessed it-I tell him he he loved and valued. We balance each other’s more stubborn tendencies; he keeps my head from floating too far into the clouds, and I keep his mind open to new experiences (and protect him from shysters! 😂). He also DEFINITELY wears the proverbial pants in our marriage, in most ways (essssspecially the bedroom, whew!), and…I like it. He makes me feel protected and taken care of, and I need that sort of stolid reassurance, because INFPs are babey and smol. 🥺 I love being his wife, even when he’s being a giant pain in the ass. 😂

As for winning them over with stats- the ISTP in my life is the "exception to all statistics". He has to try it for himself before he believes it, and he'll do it if and when he feels like it. I’d argue that the present thinking is overrated. I often find that while I value the present, I heavily focus on the future and what could happen. This is mainly because I want to maintain a free state for the future. In other words, the present focus, for me at least, is with respect to the future. It is a forward thought process that isn’t as direct as others. This ‘present think’ sometimes gives us a wrap of being big spenders, but I find the contrary. I am frugal and try and live without debt for the sole reason of having freedom and flexibility.

Writing to maybe help you further your already decent understanding of ISTP's (points will be sporadic as I remember them, and I wrote this somewhat to work through some thoughts so ignore if you want): Not all ISTP's hate theorizing or thinking about the what-ifs, I do it all the time--to an extent. Also, I'm very cognizant of emotional manipulation but still have to remain aware of the weaknesses you pointed out. Sometimes, however rarely, I can get so focused on getting something done that others’ intentions get overlooked.
Definitely right on the harsh mentor front because I get very frustrated and lose respect for someone if they do not at least attempt to get better when I'm instructing them, and I do get satisfaction when they are successful--however I suspect most people would. Overall though, I try to avoid ultimatums when judging people. If I try to teach someone something and I can tell they're not feeling it and are honest to me about not wanting to do it, I don’t think less of them. On the other side, if they constantly rely on me for things like tech support when I'm not an IT guy for things they should strive to understand because of their frequent need for help in that area, that leaves a lasting negative impression which makes me a little angry when they eventually ask for help again.
The tactics vs strategy point is also right on the mark. Though I could work to become better at strategy like anyone else, quick tactics comes much easier. Over-planning can easily be thwarted by misinterpreting one link in the chain of cause and effect. To me, you might be a bit overplaying the arrogance and insecurity of ISTP's but it's hard to argue with your personal experiences and everyone being different, and I definitely saw similar insecurities when I was younger. Also the memory thing is definitely on point, I can memorize things in academia that have practical application or logical roots, but memorizing other people's thoughts or theories on things sometimes only serves to muddy the clear logical waters I try to maintain of my already erratic thought pattern.
On the thinking that we assume others are stupid... I don’t like that interpretation because it makes us sound super stuck-up and hard to get along with. I actively try to be approachable and benevolent toward the vast majority of people. I plan for when people do things they shouldn't--I account for brain farts and am usually able to predict when they're likely to happen hence my career in law enforcement. Very much try to stay away from harsh judgement because I sometimes make bonehead mistakes and I certainly wouldn't want someone judging my entire person for that one instance. Again, touching on an earlier point, I do not often like to place ultimatums on another human's worth unless they do something that shows a deeper issue that could not be easily fixed and especially not by me. Short-fused know-it-alls (whose personalities that are consumed by that behavior) and even psychopaths have very little to no personal worth to me but must be treated impartially due to my occupation. Honest and genuine people have the most worth to me especially if they're receptive to bettering themselves.
Your video helped me understand myself a little better (not putting TOO much stock in MBTI but just taking what makes sense), so I thought I'd add my personal experience to the pool if it helps you or anyone else. This was therapeutic to think through, but I apologize if it comes out as babbling, just felt like writing for some reason!

INFP married to an ISTP. Whenever we’d have a fight my hubby would give me “the silent treatment”. He always said it was his secret weapon. But HA! Once I discovered he was trying to manipulate me it didn’t bother me anymore. Well it did but I wasn’t going to show it! Lol. This was in our early days. He doesn’t do that anymore at least not consciously anyway. We’ve had a tumultuous marriage early on but he “found Jesus” and lost some testosterone (LOL) and we have very good marriage now. Not perfect but I’ve matured and realize now that’s an impossible expectation! Your video is pretty spot on for him and very helpful. I like your points: Always ask him what he thinks, allow him to make you comfortable, give him the freedom to do what he wants, and tell him you appreciate him. This IS what I’ve been doing as I’VE matured and it does indeed work. However. If allowed he’d ONLY do what he wants to do if not reminded that we need to do what I want to do SOMETIMES! Thanks for the video!

He was not giving you the silent treatment to manipulate you. He made a calculation that it was less effort for him to give you the silent treatment then it was to dig into the other areas of his brain to continue the argument. By exposing the silent treatment you just put him back into the default argument mode. So you basically just wore him down.
We ISTPs are awful manipulators because we don't have it in our tool set. But that means we often fall prey to manipulators.

I was really happy to read your comment, as I am INFP woman also married to an ISTP man. After 15 years of marriage, I feel like we are in a good place now. However, like you, the early part our relationship was very stormy as we would clash quite often. I was very emotionally needy and clingy, which I am sure probably annoyed him. Me being sensitive, and he having not much of a verbal filter, I felt crushed a lot. I know he wasn't intentionally doing it now. He just did not realize how I took it.
I like how you said you matured and changed. I feel like I have too. I really feel like it's all on us (INFPs) to change if these marriages with an ISTP are to work, lol. I did stay by his side when he went through a kind of crisis period in his life, and I think I earned his undying loyalty. Since that time, I can't recall him saying anything majorly insensitive to me, and he increased even more his care for me. I look forward to spending the rest of our days together.

I'm an INFP raised by an ESTJ single parent. And I think that I've been emulating ISTP for my entire life. A lot of the ISTP traits you discuss in this lecture hit home for me. When I work, I'm very movement oriented, it pisses me off when other people are acting or being stupid, etc. If this is true, and I'm emulating ISTP so much, this explains why I'm so mentally drained all the time. And this happens automatically for me, I don't even think about it. What the hell is wrong with me, man...

What you said about memory is so true. I've always been a little confused by it. Certain things I seriously will never forget. Ever. Other things just leave. I think it all depends on what matters to me. It's like I have an incredible cataloguing system and if i want to store it, I do. If not, I don't. But I can memorize things well. My last gf was always amazed how much I remembered from previous conversations. She always told me my memory was incredible. I really do remember specific things said. My mind has a way of linking everything and and as a result I can retrieve it quickly and accurately.

He sent me this video to listen more about "my personality" and I told him although the topic was interesting I couldn't continue watching, but I was really intrigued and would probably never really get into this. I am an 19yo ISTP-A. I am not fluent in english but I'll try my best.
I like your channel for being awesome at MBTI studying, with your sense of humour and the deep knowledge you do have in the MBTI topic.
I am a strictly logical and negligent ISTP, living totally in the tactical way. It was always hard for me to get along with people 'cause I have literally zero charisma in group activities. I'm also very naive at some basic things but extremely cunning in deep complex topics.
I am very clumsy but with non-material systems I am very independent, self-teaching, with something like a natural knowledge for it. My Fe inferior is just GIANT. I already know people are not always what they seem to be, they don't want what they seem to want, think what they said, etc. but I always go full negligent and risk myself (not physically) getting close with that person just because I want to. I know some of them could destroy my life in some aspects, but I do it anyway just to see it right in front of me so that I know how to react at it. Of course after that I'll never trust that person again, never care about them at all. But I like immediate rewards so that's it.
I do think a lot of people around me are stupid, and that's why I don't care if I upset them. I do think there are people around me that are way more smart and/or wise than me, and it doesn't upset me 'cause it's the reality. My best friend is an ENFJ and I see him as a very smart person, we disagree at all personal topics, but do agree at half the logical ones. The only reason we can coexist is the fact that we're friends since the kindergarten.
I don't care about how other people feel, even close ones. I care about what is the right thing to do. But if it is a close one, really really close, I'll go to them and offer help to solve the problem. If rejected, I'm out while losing trust with that person. If they don't trust me to ask for help, then I can't do anything good for them.
Sadly I don't have a ISTJ friend, but I feel better around someone like them. The Fi demon part is just so true. When someone makes me go into Fi demon, I absolutely forget everything about logic and just do whatever I want with that person and things related to us. I am in fact totally disloyal, arrogant, selfish, cruel, and the charisma I have when alone with someone will never appear again. I will not do it randomly but if that person purposedly comes near me, talks to me, I will find the most dumb way to start a discussion.
I don't need to have my acts validated by other people, not even close ones. But I do get very angry/disappointed when people INvalidate it. I just won't accept having my efforts undervalued by stupid arguments. I feel disrespected, seen as invisible, and wronged. I am grateful of what others do for me, but as I don't need it myself, I will not talk about it unless I'm asked.

One day she came over and asked what it was, after I told her, she left and came back with glue! 😂 While I was finishing cutting the paper, she had already finished assembling all the furniture and pasted the structure together hahahaha
She has been scoring ISTP ever since 🛠 and I think she has become more confident about herself!
