  • The INTP personality, the logician, is the personality best at deconstructing logic, especially within themselves. I admire INTPs and I always enjoy my conversations with this personality. Of the 16 personalities, the INTP personality is who I'd choose to be stuck in a white room with for eternity.

Extroverted Intuition can cover for a lot of weaknesses. Once the INTP has built a working model of the world in their head they tend to start finding ways of "hacking" society for their benefit. Becoming in touch with extroverted feeling and then anticipating people's reactions can go a long ways. When social interactions stop going in unexpected directions, they stop being as awkward and the anxiety can slip away. That's not to say that throwing unexpected reactions won't throw an experienced INTP off their game.

The thing with INTPs over explaining stuff, apart from the fact that we love to explain, is trying to get people are on the same page. We learn from experience that some of our ideas seem left field to other people, so it's like showing your working in a maths exam. It's either showing others kind of where the idea came from or giving them the opportunity to tells us where we went wrong. For INTPs being wrong is annoying, but if we get new information about where we went wrong that is intriguing. We would rather be corrected than keep a wrong idea.

As an INTP, I’ve generally been introverted, awkward and quiet around new people that I’ve met but I’ve generally had a good social circle growing up where I’ve had to get out of my comfort zone in order to achieve my goals whether it’s promoting concerts, running an organization that promotes Metal music, DJing EBM / Synthpop music, and at work. I’ve struggled a lot with connecting with people who are interested in the things that I do though because of that awkwardness and I’ve generally stuck to impersonal ways to promote what I’m doing. My goal was never to gain recognition but only to promote the things that I loved.

For me it's like a chain reaction, one thought/idea sets of another that reminded me of something and then I have a totally new random idea that ends up being associated with the original so it seems like my attention span is short when explaining because the most important part was not any of the information being processed it was the sensation of the newness and adrenaline rush of feeling the truth of the facts

  • @Linkale_

I took the test yesterday and it told me I'm an INTP, and I feel represented by 80% of what you said in the video. I'm an 28yr old male and excessive introversion led me to anxiety. Talking to the same friends about the same niche topics (basically games and movies) really took a toll in the long run for me, and while currently I'm trying to be more extrovert and trying new things, I find it hard to connect with new people. I suppose I'll eventually learn, although a bit late.
The thing I'm not sure about is my similarities with INFPs. I'm really moved by emotional bits in movies, games, etc. I'd like to be a video game writer and, while I haven't really tried to write all that much (I think it's because that Si thing about not doing new things) I have all those ideas in my head about stories that would be really emotional, and I'd like those stories to touch people's hearts as much as they do touch mine.

    • @subversiveasset
      @subversiveasset 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

also commenting on a 2 year video, so hope you still see this and find value from this: a lot of the "functions" have idiosyncratic definitions. When thinking about "Fi" (introverted feeling) vs "Ti" (introverted thinking), I think it's better to see "Fi" as being about "personal values" than merely about emotions or feelings.
So, like, the main difference between INTP leading with "Ti" and INFP leading with "Fi" is that an INTP wants internal *logic* to make sense, be rigorous, etc., and will likely be very conflicted/unhappy if things are not aligned to their own internal logic. For Fi, we want things to align with our *personal values*.
As an INFP, I *like* to think that my personal values are logical, but really, it's more about vibes. When I talk to other people and try to make arguments, a lot of people say, "hey that isn't as logical as you think." But it still feels "right" to me, and to me, if there is any conflict between vibes and logic, vibes will win every time. Even if the logic is "objectively correct", I have to live with my personal values.
So, like when thinking about movies, games, etc., I often think about the character motivations, especially for villains. Extroverted Feeling (Fe) might look at the morals and values of the larger group, but for Fi, I am more interested in whether the villain has personal values that ring as solid and beilevable to them. It's not about whether they are making a good "logical" argument, just whether or not their actions imply consistency with their values. if that makes sense?

    • @Linkale_
      @Linkale_ 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@subversiveasset I read your comment. Then maybe I could be a INFP. I try and tell to myself I'm logical, but of the time my beliefs are just coming from a personal set of rules that are just based upon what those things make me feel. My therapist is always telling me I should think out of the box more frequently, because these rules can be very strict for no reason

    • @subversiveasset
      @subversiveasset 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Linkale_ it depends on what the "personal set of rules" depends on and how the "make me feel" part works. The last part about the rules being "strict for no reason" is also interesting. I think an INTP Ti user would spend a lot of time trying to develop and articulate a system of logic for why the rules "make sense". This is even if the rules ultimately personal, they have a logic and a structure.
In contrast, for an Fi, trying to break out into rigorous logic would be difficult. Vibes don't have to "make sense"...they just are. An Fi user can have very demanding...hmm, "tastes", "values", "vibes", etc., but would be hard pressed to explain why. (even trying to find the right word is a challenge. I would know it when I see it, but can't explain it.)

I’m an INTP. Normally I like being very isolated and enjoy it a lot. But I’ve learned that I can find enjoyment socializing when I use all functions. I’ve started learning that si actually helps during conversations to be able to find points in topics I know absolutely nothing about and that si allows me to use Ne to be able to relate to people in unique ways. It creates quite exciting conversations. My problem when I was young was thinking connecting with people was only about feelings or trying to check off a check list of topics which was very tiresome. But connecting with people in fun ways is about sharing thoughts and had much more enjoyment in conversations when I tried making the conversation my own. You were spot on with the changing topic quickly if the conversation goes to myself although I’ll gladly type a full paragraph about myself anonymously lol

It’s refreshing to hear such a positive reflection on INTPs. Not only are the reclusive robot stereotypes out there, but I’ve dealt with a whole lot of ridicule/dislike/invalidation in varying degrees since I was very young. I accidentally offend people everywhere I go, which sucks even more because I’m usually careful NOT to offend. I’d bet that at least twice a week, I’ll do or say something a certain way in order to be complimentary or positive, and it will be received in the 100% diametrically opposite way…. It’s one of my traits I dislike the most.
Another thing you kinda touched on was that were so open to new ideas and perspectives that it does two things: it’s hard to figure out your own identity and opinions, and it makes us moral relativists. I’ll play devils advocate about pretty much anything just to make people think. But then I struggle with identity and always have. That’s largely from childhood but the compulsion to consider every possible angle means that my values and opinions are constantly evolving. It makes it hard to keep a consistent in-group over time.

Ne can help take the clarity and broadcast it not only to others but more importantly to other IDEAS. Which helps with observing patterns. Also, in reverse, it helps find and recall patterns or anomalies in patterns. I am surprised often by my recall in this way, when my short term memory is lousy. I’m 52 INTP and female. I’ve made conscious efforts to form quality relationships but my intense and varied interests mean I have something to discuss with most people. I only struggle with people who want to stay in the superficial.
Learning to forgive myself for my mistakes in the past has helped me mature. I can still cringe at a sudden memory but I reign it in much faster now.
Great analogy of INTP. In my experience males are quite different from females.

Being an INTP through and through, I think most of the things you mentioned are accurate. Of course the Ti always rules!! lol
I think though, I honed my Ne and Fe a lot earlier in life, thanks to how my parents raised me. I have lived on my own since I was 19 (im 33 now), since then I have been exploring different things that I haven't thought I was remotely interested with in the past - playing and being a club manager for a soccer team (mixed club), travelling locally and internationally (this I always want to do solo), foodie reviewer, a mountaineer, long distance run and marathons, and so many other stuff going on and still interested to try a lot more. I also always join the employee engagement team of the company I work for to be able to be more "out there" in a work setting - because if I'm not tasked to engage w/ people I'm pretty much seen as reclusive and standoffish, which I don't mind really. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
I'm still a long way to go on being open about feelings/emotions, and I guess not to over talk about things (as seen on my essay comment). lol

Good video. As an INTP I've always wondered though about the functions and how exactly that works, this was helpful. One thing I would say is every time I test I've always been an INTP, but there's a common thread that seems to say we're more likely to be less outgoing but I've always been extremely outgoing. I love spending time alone more than being social I even have an anxiety disorder but regardless of that I'm very very outgoing playful and super in touch with my emotions and have no issue talking about them. While I could spend all day at home without it bothering me I truly love to be out in nature and outdoors. That's always seemed to contradict a bit of what part of INTP is described as. I'm not sure why that is because any test I've ever taken I'm still INTP. My favorite part of being an INTP is the unquenchable thirst for knowledge analyzing and learning is way more fun than socializing to me. Often I have many many things to talk about and people always seem to find that interesting, but rarely do they fully grasp the concepts of ideas put forth which can be really frustrating because I always wanna share what I'm learning about 🤣. Often I'll be talking to one person and explaining something I'm learning about and I get really excited and really into it and then I notice a few people I didn't realize were there standing and listening to me, which I find very strange because doing interviews or public speech is what will trigger my anxiety. Question for anyone that might know? Are INTP's usually really excitable when explaining things? Cuz I don't see that in any of the literature about them.

Until this video I really only knew about the primary function stereotypes and everything was like yeah I do this or think like this but after hearing about the secondary function is when it started to get real weird. I might be starting to grow into my secondary function because I booked my first long trip across the country a month ago purely our of curiosity, I decided I want to get out and do things and see things. Shieeet, this really hit the nail on the head. I had doubts I was really an INTP despite multiple tests coming back with the same result and was actually hoping I had just mistyped myself.
Kinda glossed over the initial parts about the stereotypical traits (smart, quiet, etc) coz I felt it might have played a part in skewing my results, if my suspicions were true, that I mistyped myself into INTP because I wanted to be seen as smart or smth? But the second half really took me by surprise how accurate it was, frighteningly so. Not all of it was smth you'd want to hear about yourself but I can't deny them either. I generally don't like to share about myself because I can't help feeling like an absolute failure in life and the childhood issues I've struggled with.
I'm at a crossroads in my life at the moment, actively trying to put myself out there (joined the army reserve, started a bussiness, picked up the harmonica, etc) coz one of my biggest regrets in life has always stemmed from my inaction, but it's always been an uphill struggle for me since I was a kid. The advice from this video is exactly what I've been trying to implement for myself these past couple years, though progress feels slow for me. I'm kinda glad to know I'm not alone in my struggles, I've actually been searching up to see if I should get diagnosed for autism for some years now.
Now I can keep up the fight knowing I *am* relatively 'normal' and a successful outcome is definitely within the realm of possibility for me. Thank you very much 🥰

      Picked up the harmonica?!?!?!?!
How is that putting yourself out there? Or did you join a (physical, in the flesh😄) club or something?
Also, that's one of the most nerd hobbies I've ever heard of. LOL Even if you joined the club... it'd be a club full of awkward nerds.
Join a BJJ, acting, pick-up or dancing class... something challenging to your type like that. Why'd you pick up an almost useless, nerd hobby like playing the harmonica? (at least could have been the guitar/piano, lol) That kind of weird sh!t already comes naturally to you, probably better to work toward your opposite functions, as mentioned in the video, to become healthier and have more experiences.
Focus your superpowers only on one thing - your career. For the rest, challenge yourself with alien stuff (like the aforementioned classes) that makes the hairs of your neck raise in anxiety. That's how you'll grow.
      At least that's my opinion!

I’m just now discovering this video and your channel, and I am intrigued! I loved the video and am enjoying the comments! 😊 I don’t know about the island thing, but I’m wondering if there are other INTPs who wonder if the internet went away and you were a lone survivor in an apocalyptic event if you’d know (or be able to figure out) how to make vinegar?? I don’t know why, but for some reason, I always come back to vinegar because I think if I could make it, it stands to reason I’d be able to preserve food, etc.
That being said, despite the surprising regularity with which I have this thought, I’ve never actually taken the time to research the process. Perhaps the scenario seems too far fetched. Perhaps I don’t even want to survive under such conditions. Perhaps I know deep down that vinegar is not the solution to all of life’s food worries. But I may have just talked myself into studying the topic now. 🤔

I think it generally depends on the individual INTP too.
For example, my English teacher knowing my brain was able to rattle off accurate information but information that I deem to be accurate and are in accordance with my stance and beliefs at that stage in my life pushed me towards participating in debate competitions and playing the devil's advocate with her during free classes.
This has developed into me a different analysis pattern I didn't know I could approach with and hence I'm much faster when I talk if necessary and I do exhibit ENTP traits during those moments but I know those are just moments cause I am the guy who murders myself mentally over the patterns I could have actually discussed on stage that I was too naive to notice and only notice after the event is over and it spirals me into an information daze where I gather more info on it.
For example I understand language is a human conception hence to correct language is not something I prefer because it allows me to connect more patterns where I can extrapolate information from wrongful presentation of information, spoonerisms or wordplay are also amazing me because they provide a different pattern on language construction and how small changes impact the whole narrative like it's an integration class in mathematics.
I enjoy thinking, I relish it. The possibilities of thoughts are endless.
Even the word endless should be sort of "no end" because the meaning is actually never ending and not less ending than before it's not a relative state.
These are the thoughts I have.

Interesting video. I took the MB test a couple years ago out of curiosity. Result INTP. Took it again after some time INTP again. I carry many of the traits, but I deviate a lot too. I'm 54 now so I've evolved quite a lot. I'm comfortable in my own skin and embrace my uniqueness. I'm glad I'm not like most people.
I can talk to people fine. Not like a robot, or without any emotion. I don't get intimidated and will push back if when necessary. But after a period, I want to be by myself. People who talk nonstop just exhaust and irritate me.
Anyway. good stuff. After just feeling like am oddball in this place, it's nice to learn more about myself and not feel like I'm alone.

I don't know how not to be too reliant on the past. Your world view is molded and shaped by your past experience. Your personal value your ethics, your moral compass. Your successes and failures. I personally feel that my entire life is a series of pointless decision that has lead me to where I am, I blame myself for not having the strength and the will to do anything to change my situation. I don't actually see a point in going forward. Cause I don't believe I have the strength required to pull myself out of the hole I've dug myself into. I don't know that I can change enough to get to that point. Additionally, I am dreadfully scared of ending my life alone. People keep telling me that you should not look into someone else for your happiness and should be able to be happy by yourself but I have been alone for the majority of my adult life and I want none of it. I don't know what to do anymore.

My trauma patterns, especially fawning and freezing, made me think I am an INFJ. The "Fe" was actually people pleasing. The more I heal and use my logic more than drowning in my emotions, I realize I was an INTP all along

More reason I’m INFP and not INTP like I tested years ago. I don’t really care that the language is completely accurate, just that I get the main points of what’s being said. I don’t feel the need to correct minor inconsistencies like what month something happened, unless I’m joking a friend. These are some of the best videos covering the functions. I think your Te is a very good tool for presenting info in a simplified way where it is structured and kind of to the point in a way others can grasp and put to use. Ni probably helps too as my Ne would have me going in circles to explain it.

I find that I underutilize Si, and balance it with overuse of Ne. I'm always making new plans and ideas, but I never put them in order. My room is like a lab full of unfinished projects. Sometimes, I'll go into a burst of Si where I start putting stuff in order and leaving projects behind that couldn't work out after all.

This is sound advice I think. Curiosity has given me so much throughout my life! In that way I love ne. Ne is what gives me new thoughts and challenges. Without it life becomes boring and I become bored. It's what took me through my 20:s and 30:s. Lately I've been thinking a lot about Fe though. In my youth I thought that everyone would like to hear what I had to say but as I've grown up it's been quite clear that many people either don't have time to try to understand, think it's silly or feels threatened by it. That I think has really bitten into that fe insecurity. I'm slowly digging myself out of that and have recently been encouraged to say what's on my mind a lot more. Hopefully I can find a little louder voice again. It feels important to get that fe component in place after all what does my knowledge and skills matter if I keep it for myself.
Sorry for using TH-cam as my diary.

Christmas tree brain (EEG) is what we have. We are also somewhat disturbed by this. Truth seeking keeps me on the perimeter of madness. Still, at 70 years, I would not want life to be any other way 👾

Yes, INTP'sare fun to gab with.
I'm a little puzzled over where you got some of your Myers-Briggs info.
I have always heard that JUNG himself, originally, did NOT use the J or P functions. It wasn't Myers-Briggs, yet.
Probably not 1 person in 500 making youtube videos today has read:
Life Types, by Hirsch & Kummerow or
Type Talk by Kroeger and Theussen or
Gifts Differing co-authored by Isabel Myers-Briggs.
In Gifts Differing, functions are mentioned, but verrrry briefly, almost in passing. It was the 4 letters and which ones you had, that mattered. THAT was Myers-Briggs. There's more--
Before "Dave Superpowers" came out with his functions-videos, I don't remember any other functions videos before his. Back around 2010, MIKE ADAMS and his "living my purpose" videos DID talk specifically about "Myers-Briggs" (not some "tweaked-version system) and ...do we hear anything about "functions"? Nope. And he was BEFORE "Dave Superpowers".
Here's an example to back me up. No Functions. @ Since Dave made his functions videos, and he had far less "competition" 10 years ago, I suspect many people who were new to myers-briggs (and didnt know better) simply saw his videos...and sure enough...NOW, 10 yrs later, we've got tons of "next generation" TH-cam viewers all harping endlessly about functions when:
    1. Mike Adams didnt.
    2. The book TYPE TALK didn't.
    3. The book LIFE TYPES by Hirsch & Kummerow doesn't.
    4. Isabel Myers Briggs's book GIFTS DIFFERING just barely mentions it very briefly, almost in passing, but makes nowhere near the emphasis on it that we see today.
But today, almost no one bothers to look, or trace things back 10 years to see any then-and-now differences. On a sorta-similar note:
The author David Kiersey, isn't Myers-Briggs either. Its his own system. But once again. back-in-the-day when there were less videos and less books, Kiersey called the INTJ "the MASTERMIND" in his book, and so....INTJ became really popular to be on TH-cam (who doesn't wanna be regarded as Smart?). Or a MASTERMIND. Ooooohh! Now, that has pretty-much died down, likely due to the sheer flood of more/other videos. Many people make their own syustem. Fine. So CALL it that. But don't try to palm it off as the true Myers-Briggs. Consider the last 20 "16 Types" videos you've watched. Have ANY of those "content-creators" ever read even one of the three book i mentioned above? I seriously doubt it. I think someone decided that 8 functions were somehow "cooler" than 4 letters (because more complex is somehow cooler or more "scientific"??)-- but no one quotes any book that is "the Functions-bible". I just showed where I got my info. Those books have research behind them.

(INTP) I'm middle aged and consider myself a healthy INTP. Although I dislike in-person conversations, phone calls, phone texting, or video chats... I do enjoy direct messaging because I can take my time and say what I mean instead of fumbling for words or focusing on trivial things like "if I'm conversing properly".. as if my inner dialog doesn't shut off even when I'm engaged in a live conversation and tend to dissect and analyze the entire experience in real time. What I really dislike is when people ask me "how are you" because I don't inherently understand the question... it's an instant trigger because it takes me immediately to shadow function Fi and that's a very uncomfortable area for me to access.

I just figured out two of my friends are INTPs. I can tell because I'm an INFP and all three of us have what seems like auxilary Ne and terterary Si. I say this because all of us have some kind of goal- for me, writing a novel, for my longtime best friend, she wants to go back to school to become an engineer, and for my guy friend, he wants to get back into drawing and art. All three of us get bursts of motivation to work towards our goals, but then slide back into the comfort, safety, and quite frankly laziness of Si in that third slot. All three of us wind up eating unhealthy and spending our time wasting away watching TH-cam or TV or whatever. For Ti doms, both of these friends are surprisingly willing to listen to my Fi talks about my feelings, but I can tell that both of them are still in fact Ti doms because they get so factually accurate about little unimportant things like you mentioned. For example, my guy friend telling his brother that he drew the details of a fox wrong, or my best friend nitpicking her mom on what day of last week they did something like grocery shopping. This video feels so accurate to both of them lol. Thanks to your INFP videos, and also productivity videos, I am in school chipping away at becoming a therapist, which has always been a dream job. But my Si is still holding me back from writing that novel that every INFP says that one day they'll write lol

Thanks for very enlightening video of how different INTPs can be. I think many memes and jokes hit more to the unhealthy side of INTP and I don't quite relate to that. Like one video started with "INTPs never leave their apartment" and for me that video stopped a second later 😅
Well, I have to be honest, my wife does say that I should leave our apartment more often 😶 So currently I'm too deep in my comfort zone, and also I have long way to take up my feelings properly. But I like to think I'm getting there 😌
    But thanks for the video!
