I think eventually the haters will be criticising the choice to turn around. So to get in before that, maybe if they were 5'4" and not confident of clearing an obstacle in BFE and didn't want to pick up a borrowed 650lb motorcycle in a muddy river by themselves, then they might also turn around 🤷🏼♂️
I think eventually a lot of grown men will be telling me what to do with my life like they do in every single one of my videos. It’s comical. 😂 but the reality is, I made the right choice, even if the peanut gallery disagrees. Having had professional training and tons of experience on the PanAm since this was filmed over a year ago…I can confidently say I can do it now, and back then it would’ve been a dumb decision to cross that muddy mess. But, I’ll be here with my popcorn waiting for the rotten tomato comments. 😂😂😂🤙
@@ridetofood Smart choice to not get stuck in the mud. Attempting a recovery of a huge, heavy and very expensive ADV stuck in mud, while alone? Nope. That said, the scales tip towards sending it and hoping for the best if it was a smaller bike on knobby tires. I'd remove the hard cases just in case.
Wow! That's what I have to start with. I've been riding over 50 years and logged thousands of miles and I can say you are much more than a pretty good rider . When I saw that washout coming up I said "oh sh$t! Turning around was the smart thing to do. Being alone and dropping it in the middle would have been worse than turning around and having to ride back in the sand and being sooo hungry. Your determination and sense of adventure impress the hell out of me. The scenery was incredible. So glad you made it back to a hotel and real food! Thanks again for videos
Just amazing! Coming off the beach completely cold, jumping on a 650 lbs ADV bike and hitting the sand. Quite possibly the most challenging terrain to ride a big bike through. Once again showing me why you are one of my heroes. Your decision to turn around given all of the negatives was, I am sure, very hard but it was the correct decision. Thank you so much for bringing me along.
As someone who is stubborn and hates when plans don’t go as planned…this entire day was definitely a learning experience on a number of levels. 😂🤙 glad you enjoyed it! Even a year after this was filmed…I’ve ridden in much deeper sand and I still don’t like it, lol!!!
Absolutely one of my favorite channels! As a budding ADV rider (Africa Twin), I hope you keep the Pan America. Suggestion: Maybe consider the name “Ride with Food”! 😂 ❤
This was filmed over a year ago, I’m not sure where that bike is today! I only got to borrow it for six weeks lol! But if you follow along on IG you’ll notice I’ve done a bit more adventuring since this was filmed 😎🏍️💨🏔️ I usually do have more food with me, but since I flew in and picked the bike up I never stocked up lol!
I think the Pan America is an awesome bike for you! That cushy suspension is golden on dirt roads. A pack I used to hang with got frustrated with me cause I couldn't/wouldn't keep up and so we went our separate ways. Last summer they had two accidents where a broken rider had to be air-lifted out of the mountains. It's your game, play it your way :)
That was a seriously impressive ride, it takes a lot of self confidence / nerve to push yourself that far out of your comfort zone and let's not forget ...on a borrowed bike! Turning round at the washed out road was an extremely smart move... for all the reasons you gave. Great video, thank you.
No shame in turning around and much better than getting hurt and/or stranded. When I road to Alaska I turned around on the Dalton Hwy. I had wanted to make it to the Artic Circle but the road was much rougher than I was used to, I was alone, and those stories of crazy truckers flying by proved to be true. I figured that if I crashed or broke down I’d end up being bear chow! You did great getting as far as you did given all of the sand!
Definitely not ashamed…it was the right choice at the time, for sure! Sounds like you made the right choice as well! 😊 I hope to ride the dalton and dumpster highways in a few years. …and hopefully they’re not covered in mud…or bears. 🤣🤣🤣 thanks Craig!!
Speaking as an ADV rider (who has crashed my bike several times now) the correct choice is always the choice you are comfortable with - so you made the right choice at the wash out (especially since it is not your bike). One option that I will add (that a lot of new ADV riders overlook - I did as well) is simply walking the bike through tough spots. Put it in first gear, lean a hip in and just slowly walk it to a rideable spot. Still probably not an option in the wash out with your size, the weight of the bike and the street tires and your skill level off road, but it does work well in those tricky spots where you want to/have to get to the end of a route. Amazing footage - Utah is stunning.
You absolutely made the right call at the washout! Ride smart and know your ability. Off road riding is a totally different ball game, ain’t it? You’re killin it!
Hi Your going to have a blast. I too am a cruiser. For the last 25 yrs. I sold my 2018 fatboy 114 in the fall and bought a 2022 Pan America special. What a riot that bike is. I put 4300 miles on before I put it away for the winter. I’ve noticed the last few yrs I want to get off the ash fault. I moto camp a-lot and want to get in the back country and have more storage. Enjoy that orange beauty. 🎉
I have had a similar day. Anyone who would criticize your decision to turn around has probably never had a heavy bike on it's side in mud or sand. It is ....scary...when you are a zillion miles from NOPLACE USA. Thanks for taking us along on the ride.
1st time ADV off road riding on a big twin? ...basically solo? ...with stock tires? ...nothing but respect here, be proud of your accomplishment! Now go out, get yourself a Pan Am and make the unpaved world yours!!! ✌
Wow. The views, the terrain! Solo on the highway is one thing, but solo that far off the pavement? Loved it! I resisted shouting at the TV to try and help you figure out a way to cross. I wholeheartedly agree with your decision, because you were there and I was literally watching from my couch. Thanks for taking some risks to make this golden content, you inspire me to ride farther and find new adventures. Always looking forward to the next!
I’m really impressed with the great scenery of this series! However, I’m just as equally impressed with your bravado in taking a borrowed bike into new territory! Your decision to turn around and not push yourself truly shows how strong and smart you are. It would have been so easy to edit out anything negative. I’m really glad that I found your channel and subscribe to it. Each video I watch gives me ideas of places to travel and enjoy some of that fantastic food you find!
Hell yeah! An ADV or dual-sport is a ticket to all those awesome roads you 'could' ride on your Dyna, but shouldn't for a whole host of reasons. This channel always puts a smile on my face.
another nice video. Utah is on my bucket list too for 2023. Unfortunately I don't own an ADV so means paved roads only. Thx for sharing the beautiful canyons there.
What an awesome ride Stacey, brilliant decision to turn around! And that SAND!! Mate I'm hopeless in sand, solid effort indeed!! Looking forward in the next videos, the Adventure riding suits you!!
Utah is so beautiful and you could have busted into a rendition of Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be Moto Vloggers at the canyon. Love the channel 💯✌️🤟🤘
That was a tough road for a first trip. A lot of sand. Especially tough on a big bike. Adventure riding will get easier than this for the most part. Great attitude. 👊
Well done, hats off for jumping into the deep end with a big bike. Also, kudos for making the mature decisions and staying positive, that's what it's all about!
I stayed at the KOA in Green River on my trip from WI to the west coast and back last summer. Also ate the Tamarisk. great food and the staff was amazing even though we got there pretty late. we were able to watch fire works over the river while we ate, there was a local celebration going on that night.
What amazing views! And sand is no joke! It can take a lot out of you for sure. Smart for not trying that crossing for all the reasons you mentioned. Looking forward to the next one!
First, I'm not a hater.. I'm a biker of many years on all types,.. that bike as you will see later on will do a lot more than you could imagine.. you could have crossed the creek very easily... but.. the first big rule.. if you don't like it don't do it!! Saves a lot of repairs and broken bones!! You did a great job out there!! Good luck and please do complete the off road course!! Love your videos!!
Guess you’ll have to stick around and see what happens! Or follow along on Instagram since this video was filmed over a year ago. I post more “real time” content over there! 😎
Wicked awesome video and I'm already looking forward to your next adventure! Oh, yeah, Utah backroads are always sandy or muddy! And the roads be always like, "Get off that bike and stay a while!" Good on ya for a smart decision. Those road washes can be bottomless muck pits that will not let go of your bike if you tip over. The views go on forever! And there's always next time!
Haha yeah, the mud was stiiiiicky and slick. It’s impossible to show that in a video though. Watched a car almost take its bumper off then spin out trying to go up the wash. That was when I called it and said “that’s a big no for me dawg.” Can’t wait to give it another go, though!!!
Happy New Year, Staci! Good dry bread can be found “under the bridge” in Mexican Hat. It’s not technically “under it,” but the road goes down to the restaurant/motel on the Mexican Hat side. I get mine with the stew. I think I mentioned this last time, but I stayed in the same place in Boulder! Re: the river crossing… you have to trust your gut, even if you probably could have done it. Street tires in mud… not good. I’ve balked on stuff others would consider easy when my gut was saying, don’t do it! Was I a wimp? perhaps, but I was a wimp that didn’t crash trying to do something he knew he shouldn’t There was no wash out when I did the Burr Trail, so I had it easy! I don’t recall as much sand as you had. There was mikes of it, but really shallow, I put on a tail cam to catch my rooster tail and did about 55. I share your fear of sand. You did some ADV training a few months back IIRC. So you’re well on your way. 😊👍
I know the spot you speak of in Mexican hat! I have yet to stop there but it’s on the list. Passed it a few months ago on the blue PanAm! 😊 Yep - I did get to do the rawhyde training about a year after this video was filmed. What a world of a difference! Can’t wait to drop those videos!! Thanks for watching 😊😊😊
Awesome adventure, terrain and sights! Sucks you had to backtrack, but it was definitely the right call. Better safe than sorry, those ADV classes will for sure boost your confidence and skills! Riding hungry = no bueno!! Thanks for taking us along!
I took the Rawhyde Intro course a few months ago (about 11 months after this was filmed) and I can CONFIDENTLY say that they are worth every single penny!! Thanks for watching!! :)
Takes courage to take on roads like that for the first time. Takes even more to do it on a big bike you don't own and even more to do it by yourself. This is just one more reason I like watching your vids!
I think we all know our skill level and we all push beyond our riding ability, it’s our road to improvement! Safe and sane should be our approach, and common sense when riding outside our comfort zone and skill level,. You did great! Great vid, keep them coming! Based on your Arkansas ride, I ordered the Ark guide, and following your route this summer , from NorCal. Ride safe!
I think I commented on the last video that adventure riding at this stage of my life is a no go. I do admire those that do but I also still believe that common sense is the better part of valor. You made the right decision for you, and that is all that matters. Spectacular scenery and as always, enjoy your commentary. Keep ‘em coming Staci.
Great video. No problem with turning around. That's what adventure riding is sometimes. But you got some real experience and saw some awesome things either way!
Thanks for sharing this new adventure of yours! It’s incredibly hard making a decision to turnaround but it’s that instinct that keeps you safe. You did great!
way to conquer some fears and find your limits. not to work on them like you said and come back to make that pass seem like a small hill :) keep up the awesome adventures and look fwd to seeing what you do next cheers.
I, too, am new to ADV riding. I have many years and many miles under my ass, and I agree that riding an adventure bike is a totally different animal. Since buying my new 2022 Pan Am Special, I have enjoyed both on and off-road riding and find the new-found ability to explore new areas fantastic. Living in Utah gives me plenty of opportunity to enjoy my Pan Am, and as you said I also need to enroll in a riding course to further improve my off-road skills. I really enjoy your channel and wish you luck in all your endeavors!!!
Love that you’re loving it! 😊 I took the rawhyde intro to ADV course since this was filmed in late 2021, and it was well worth it! I hope you enjoy your new bike!!! The PanAm is amazing!
@@ridetofood you got down, you didn't fall off, thats a win! Itchy boots better watch out!!! Hehehe I watch a lot of Jess on her two wheels and Amanda, Jess was the one who put me on to you to watch and i love your content. I have a tiny channel called 40noobnz and i have an open invitation to you all to come stay with my wife and i in NZ and do some touring here. I have a video dedicated to Ol' Man Ronan coming out on the 25th, check it out, if you like what you see lets make something happen!
My first experience with sand was at least a foot deep of beach sand on the Trans Wisconsin aDV trail. It was rough with my pan am but I made it through with my 80/20 tires. 🙌
Yes! Also holy cow what a way to jump in the deep end on the PanAm. 10/10 can vouch for those rawhide courses. So stoked to see you take on a new challenge and can't wait to follow along as a fellow big bike dirt newbie
RawHyde is worth EVERY penny. I took the class back in September, about 11 months after this was filmed. Lord I wish I had had that training before this day, but hey, it made the memory that much better. 😂🤙 Adv riding is so rad. Stoked to hear you’ve got the bug too!
Hell yeah! Fellow foodie now on an ADV bike! Greetings from east coast! Don't sweat turning around and finding a different way, if you spend more time on these bikes (hopefully HD gives it to you!) it's a skill you level up and then even the trashiest of dive bars will be within your reach! Seriously though, great content showing your journey sprinkled in with some good eats!
Thank you! This was filmed over a year ago (just getting to editing it haha) and I’ve done waaaay more on PanAms since! (Check out my IG!) ADV riding rules. 🤙
I road dirt for many years and street bikes my last dirt bike was a Honda 650 thumper about 1/2 the weight for that hd. with a experienced rider with you that river crossing would have been a walk in the park . thanks for the effort great show .
Good stuff. I stayed in Green River in September this year, at the super 8 instead of motel 6. I chose a place called Ray's tavern, which is a burgers and fries kind of place. Really good meal with tons of dual sports parked outside, so I knew I was in the right spot.
Having an adventure is what it is all about. My jeeping clique stays in Green River often and enjoys the San Rafael Swell area trails that are west of GR. Been to Tamarisk a few times for dinner. Great video and of course the Utah scenery is hard to beat.
All that sand to get to chips and salsa and a salad… does riding to food get any better than this?!? Probably not. Happy New Year and to much more sand under your wheels! Ride safe! ✌🏻🍻
Awesome video! Don't feel bad, you didn't miss out on much. Mostly just hardpack road after Bullfrog Creek headed towards Ticaboo and Bullfrog Basin. Did this ride from the opposite side in late September of last year. It was pretty rough and I smashed by bashplate making it over the other side of the creek haha (Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ground clearance for the lose lol). Easier said than done on a big ADV bike. No need to get yourself hurt in BFE! Gotta trust your instincts for sure!
lol! yeah, the gopro never does the reality justice. It was muddy, slick, and definitely steep on both sides of the wash. I watched a couple of cars cross, and they all nearly took their front bumpers off entering, and spun their tires on the way out. There was plenty of logical reasoning behind my decision to do what was best for me in the moment. I'm a pretty stubborn person...I wanted to find a way to cross pretty friggin bad lol! I was there in October of 2021...so sounds like it hasn't improved much and/or has been pretty washed out again!
@@ridetofood yup gotta do what you feel is right, no shame in that! 500+ lb bikes have their limits, I had a Ford Explorer following behind me when I crossed the creek and they just said F it and turned around after I crossed lol. Really enjoy your video's, keep it up!
You were right to turn around when you did. Walking on the riverbed may have seemed firm but rolling through a saturated wash could have easily left you buried up to the skid plate. As a man, that’s one of the reasons I ride solo; usually too much ego and testosterone when you ride with a bunch of guys and rational thought goes out the window. Did a 3500-mile loop through California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and Arizona last September; stayed a night at the Motel 6 in Green River and ate at the Tamarisk. Pretty much the best meal around plus a nice view of the River.
I just turned 70 and been riding 40 years street just found adventure riding 3 years ago definitely a whole new set of skills i am still learning and don't like water crossings we will overcome yes take care little sister
I would have went through the creek but that's me. Best choice you can make in those situations is the one you know will get you home safe. If you aren't comfortable with the situation don't try it. Better to learn at your own pace and risk breaking the bike or yourself.
Curious if the bike was lowered for you? Pan Am's are SO tall! You did great, and if everything went exactly right, it wouldnt have been as great of an adventure! :-)
I think eventually the haters will be criticising the choice to turn around. Re: the river crossing… you have to trust your gut, even if you probably could have done it. Street tires in mud… not good. I’ve balked on stuff others would consider easy when my gut was saying, don’t do it! Was I a wimp? perhaps, but I was a wimp that didn’t crash trying to do something he knew he shouldn’t
There was no wash out when I did the Burr Trail, so I had it easy!
Yep - I did get to do the rawhyde training about a year after this video was filmed.
Great video as always Stacy.. I always look forward to seeing your new adventures.
Thank you!! This was a fun one to make. Definitely one of my favorite days on a motorcycle.
Takes courage to take on roads like that for the first time. Takes even more to do it on a big bike you don't own and even more to do it by yourself. This is just one more reason I like watching your vids!
Thank you! It was definitely an adventure of all kinds 😂🤙
Ride safe!
Thank you! 😊 enjoy Arkansas!! Lots to see and eat between NorCal and there…that will be such a fun adventure! 😊 stoked for you!!
Great ride. Such amazing views. Thanks for taking us with you!
Anytime! 🤙 thanks for watching. 😊
Beautiful is all I have to say definitely on my list of things to do
you'll love it out there! Utah is something else!
Couldn't have chose a better place to ride that bike! Another great video!
Thank you! 😊🤙
Thanks, Wayne! 😊
Burr Trail is so awesome. Drove it on my 5 UT NP car road trip. Had go back to ride it. Highly recommended.
I’ll definitely ride it again one day! It’s beautiful! 🤙
Great video. No problem with turning around. That's what adventure riding is sometimes. But you got some real experience and saw some awesome things either way!
Agreeed!!
Gracias! :)
Thanks for sharing this new adventure of yours! It’s incredibly hard making a decision to turnaround but it’s that instinct that keeps you safe. You did great!
Thank you! 😊
Happy New Year! You are an amazing biker and woman. Love your videos, they are amazing. All the best to you in 2023!
Thanks Lloyd 😊 Happy New Year to you as well!
way to conquer some fears and find your limits. not to work on them like you said and come back to make that pass seem like a small hill :) keep up the awesome adventures and look fwd to seeing what you do next cheers.
Woah, you were fast down those switchbacks, I've been riding adventure bikes for 3 years and i cant go that fast!!!!! Hahaha
😂😂😂😂 nobody needs to know how slow I actually went 😂
@@ridetofood you got down, you didn't fall off, thats a win! Itchy boots better watch out!!! Hehehe
I watch a lot of Jess on her two wheels and Amanda, Jess was the one who put me on to you to watch and i love your content.
🤙🤙🤙
Awesome vid Staci, I absolutely loved it!
Thank you!! :)
Adv riding is so rad.
handles that PanAm like a boss Staci! looking forward to rest of your adv riding videos!
I did my best! Got a ton of PanAm content coming your way!!! 😊
@@ridetofood 🤘
dude youre an inspiration thanks for making such sick videos
Glad you enjoy them!!
Another great video Staci! Looking forward to more adventures 🤟🧨
Thank you! 🤙
I road dirt for many years and street bikes my last dirt bike was a Honda 650 thumper about 1/2 the weight for that hd. with a experienced rider with you that river crossing would have been a walk in the park . thanks for the effort great show .
Thanks for watching! 😊 I could cross it now with a slight adrenaline rush 😂
Great video Staci. Larry in Fort Worth
Good stuff. I stayed in Green River in September this year, at the super 8 instead of motel 6. I chose a place called Ray's tavern, which is a burgers and fries kind of place. Really good meal with tons of dual sports parked outside, so I knew I was in the right spot.
Always a solid way to decide where to eat 😂👏 if I ever go back to Green River I’ll check it out!! Thanks!!
MUCH respect! Awesome video...
Having an adventure is what it is all about. My jeeping clique stays in Green River often and enjoys the San Rafael Swell area trails that are west of GR. Been to Tamarisk a few times for dinner. Great video and of course the Utah scenery is hard to beat.
Pan Am is a great bike and Utah is my favorite place.
Agreeeeed! 😊🤙
Great video great scenery!! That looks like so much fun! Good luck on the rest of your ride be safe!
Thank you! 😊
All that sand to get to chips and salsa and a salad… does riding to food get any better than this?!? Probably not. Happy New Year and to much more sand under your wheels! Ride safe! ✌🏻🍻
😂😂😂😂 if only tacos and pie were options, it would’ve been perfect hahaha! Thank you! 😊
I'm enjoying this series so much! Can't wait for the next episode! Keep kicking ass Staci!
It definitely wasn’t firm in the wash! My boots were sinking 😂 would’ve been a nightmare for sure! Glad you’ve enjoy the tamarisk as well!
Looking back, could you have slow speed the bike across the creek?
Love this channel 😊
Knowing what I know now, I would’ve taken the bags off and SENT it across. Slow speed would’ve gotten me stuck in the silt
You did great!
Love Utah ❤️ it's like no other
Agreed! It’s a magical state!
Awesome vid as always. You are making me want to get an adv bike
Once you get the bug…it’s hard to cure! 😎
What time of year is this! Way to pay attention to your limits! You’ll get there!!
October of 2021
You could consider walking the bike through it with the motor pulling just saying always ride your ride thanks for the adventure
It’s as if you think I didn’t consider that….🤣
I just turned 70 and been riding 40 years street just found adventure riding 3 years ago definitely a whole new set of skills i am still learning and don't like water crossings we will overcome yes take care little sister
One rule I always follow when Venturing when I ride is always bring snacks and water.
It’s a good rule!
I would have went through the creek but that's me. Best choice you can make in those situations is the one you know will get you home safe. If you aren't comfortable with the situation don't try it. Better to learn at your own pace and risk breaking the bike or yourself.
100%
Curious if the bike was lowered for you? Pan Am's are SO tall! You did great, and if everything went exactly right, it wouldnt have been as great of an adventure! :-)
The specials have the adaptive ride height feature so it lowers as it slows down (unless you turn it off) I have a 30” inseam which mildly helps lol!
Final Boss bahahah stay beautiful strong nd good for you for not pushing your limits while alone !!!!
I'm glad someone finds my dorky humor hilarious hahahah! Thanks as always!
great Vid as always... sand it probly the worst to ride in no matter what your on.... cheers mate... Knee's in Da off Road Breeeezzzzeeeeeee........
cheers!!! You're right....no matter what sand sucks lol!
Atta gal. Stick with the ADV. No going back now. 👍
The bug is real!
Really impressed you managed so much sand on 'stock' tyres !?
yep, factory tires!
This was a wonderful video way togo
Fantastic!
Thanks for the great video
Anytime, Jim! Thanks for watching :)
Nice place to ride
Indeed!
